When people hear about dietitians, they often associate them with food, which makes sense, but the truth is that our way of eating often stems from our relationship with our bodies and body image. During this interview with dietician Rachel Goodman, she gets deep into her own story, her journey with food. We discussed how as we get older, our true selves start to dim, and part of the process in life is getting back to our childhood selves. Rachel shares why she decided to become a dietician and her earliest memory of struggling with her body image. It’s interesting how we think that professionals have it all together when it comes to the industry that they’re serving, but as you’ll soon hear, there was a time when Rachel struggled with imposter syndrome and binge eating. Rachel shared why diets didn’t work long-term and spoke about what inspired her to delve into intuitive eating. I also asked Rachel how we can figure out if a normalized behavior is, in fact, disordered eating, so she offered some great advice on that as well.

Kendrah Saad is a model and talented marketer who creates engaging and strategic online content to grow businesses. I’m so excited for you to hear her share her journey with modeling as a black woman and the struggles and challenges she’s had to work through regarding being a woman of color in the industry. Kendy offers excellent advice for bringing up confident daughters who have a healthy sense of self-worth, especially as women of color. Kendy talks about when she first became aware of her body and body image and how she felt growing up as the tallest kid in the class. Kendy is constantly booked with modeling gigs and has a large social media following which is growing daily. She talks about her mindset when dealing with haters and her outlook on generating opportunities during the times that society may not offer them to you. Kendy also brings up a great lesson of embracing your age and stage in life, how you’re never too old. I was curious about how people respond to Kendy and her husband as an interracial couple, with Kendy being married to a guy who is white, so it was interesting to hear her perspective on that. We spoke about how to feel comfortable in situations where you feel self-conscious and her advice for girls who feel different.

Tonight’s interview features pop singer-songwriter Andee. Andee shared the evolution of her singing career and how it began when she was just a child. Andee first won the hearts of audiences through appearances in the TV show Star Academie, has toured with famous performers such as Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga, and opened for Bryan Adams. Her song “Sorries,” co-written by superstar Pink also achieved tremendous success with radio stations across the country.
Her first single, “Never Gone,” reached the Canadian top 40.
Andee spoke about how her struggle with depression and body image issues started when she was a teenager and her journey towards love and self-acceptance. Andee spoke about being diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder, a mental disorder that causes dramatic shifts in a person’s mood, energy, and ability to think clearly. This medical condition causes a person to cycle through periods of depression and elevated mood (euphoria, exceptional energy, risky behaviors…).
Some people with Bipolar type 1 will experience psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations during severe bipolar episodes of mania or depression. A person having a psychotic episode is disconnected from reality. This was Andee’s case. Anti-psychotic medication is necessary for her.
Andee shares how things started making sense once she received that diagnosis and how it took her time to accept and be open about her diagnosis fully. She also shared her struggle to accept herself with her imperfections, how everyone struggles with something, and her journey towards self-acceptance and self-love. Andee also shares the moments she’s struggled with feeling visible and how she was able to release the way her albums performed from her self-worth. She spoke about how she worked to love every part of herself and how she’s able to work through the hard days.

Tonight’s interview features Maayan Davis, a choreographer, dancer, motivator, and influencer. Maayan shared with me how she wasn’t always this way. Maayan also spoke about when she first realized how she could express herself through dance and movement and recognized the power of her body. Maayan shared her view on body confidence, how she learned to love parts of her body that she was self-conscious about in the past and how she works to raise her daughters to love their bodies. We spoke about how imperfections make us beautiful. We tend to notice our imperfections that no one else sees, and how Maayan’s best friend of 30 years never noticed something that she was self-conscious of for decades; until Maayan literally pointed it out to her! Maayan and I also bonded over our gummy smiles and spoke about being self-conscious about that feature and how our uniqueness is really what makes us beautiful! Maayan spoke about how she encourages her dance students to love their different parts and how self-talk helped her come to a place of body confidence and self-love. Maayan also shared how it took her a while to get used to talking on Instagram without anxiety and how we see the results but not the process it takes to get there! I am so excited for you to hear this episode.

Elena is an Entertainment Editor at Today.com and has previously worked at refinery29 and Oprah daily. During this interview, Elena shared how feeling like an outsider contributed to who she is today. We spoke about how Instagram contributes to body image challenges, and she shared her ideas of what we can do to help our girls grow up with increased body confidence. Elena shared how her mom helped her develop her self-worth by helping her feel valuable for more than her body and the importance of having more empathy for yourself. We spoke about the struggles of aging, of our bodies changing, and we can sometimes change different aspects of how we look, but if we don’t love ourselves, we’ll always find something we don’t like. We discussed the importance of doing what you need to feel confident and beautiful. How we should love our bodies for all they have done for us and focus on that, and find the positive aspects of what we’ve been served but most importantly, how every human is worthy of love regardless of weight, size, shape, or ages.

Influencer and Instagram Coach Tiffany Cheung was raised in a traditional Chinese home with the mentality of “speak when spoken to,” without a voice. Her unexpected pregnancy at age 18 created a lot of conflict with her parents and community. Tiffany was barely making it financially as a young single mom, living off of food stamps, and her minimum wage job. There were times that Tiffany didn’t have enough food for herself, yet she always made sure that her child was fed.
After a lot of internal mindset shifts, shifting from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset, and of course hard work, Tiffany went from $0 to $200,000 income, currently bringing in a multiple 6 figure income!
I am so excited for you to hear her story, learn a lot, and be inspired.

I’m so excited for tonight’s podcast featuring Kamille Richardson. Although Kamille faced the challenge of being blind from birth, it never deterred her from accomplishing her goals and living a fulfilling and rich life. Kamille grew up with the mentality of “I can do anything,” and this is the mindset that she passes on to her clients who have recently become blind and who come to her for help on navigating their way around their newfound reality, particularly the digital world and using their phones to connect with their external environment. I am excited for you to hear Kamille’s story of what it was like for her growing up blind in a world where most people can see, how she dealt with the challenges that came her way, the messages she wants people to hear, and be inspired by her story. I asked her questions that we all want to ask and Kamille was so gracious and patient and answered all my questions so eloquently and thoroughly. I learned a lot from Kamille and her perspective of living life as someone who has been blind since birth, and I can’t wait for you to hear her story, learn a lot, and be inspired.

Tonight’s interview is with my friend, Zahra Assar, who was born and raised in Iran. Zahra earned her PhD in bio-physical science from University of Michigan and currently works full time as a scientist. During her lunch breaks and after hours, you’ll find her working on captions and modeling as a fashion blogger, (yes you read that correctly!). Zahra has an interesting journey of how she ended up at University of Michigan after traveling and living in different countries along the way. Zahra spoke to me about what she actually does as a scientist on a daily basis, i.e. what her day job actually looks like! Although her hobby as a fashion blogger and science day job may seem like total opposites, Zahra defeats the stereotypical scientist persona and demonstrates how we’re all truly multifaceted human beings, with different interests, hobbies, and yes, beauty and brains! Zahra and I discuss the stereotypical scientist persona, her hesitations of becoming a fashion blogger while in the professional field of science, and what it was like growing up in Iran, a male dominated culture.

I’m so excited to have my talented friend, creative director, branding and marketing designer, Michelle Mozes on the show to discuss Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). HG is a pregnancy related condition which affects about 1% of pregnant women. Michelle and I had a candid discussion about what living with HG is really like, the difference between regular pregnancy symptoms versus HG, how people minimize the pain and suffering of women suffering with HG, and what we can do to support our friends and family living with this condition.

Many of you know Goldie Felsenstein as a sought after and successful makeup artist who is a top choice for not only weddings and photoshoots all over the tristate area, but is also flown around the world for her talent and skill. Goldie spoke to me about the struggles of growing up feeling different from her friends who were in a two parent family, her passion for makeup as a child, attending makeup school as a 15 year old, achieving financial independence at age 16, and the unusual job she took to pay for her seminary education (Judaic studies post high school). Goldie also shared her drive for education and the effort it took for her to work to support herself through college. I’m so excited for you to hear her story of perseverance, dedication, and success mindset which enabled her to achieve what she has today.

Shira Rosenbluth is a body positive blogger, influencer, and therapist who, after being put on a diet at age 10, due to the pressures of our thin obsessed society, developed an eating disorder that went undiscovered for 4 years. Eventually, Shira chose to become a therapist, and currently utilizes her own experiences to help others. I really enjoyed getting to know Shira through this interview, and hearing her firsthand experience of healing, as well as relapsing with an eating disorder while in the public eye. Many of us can learn from her advice and recommendations for women and girls with regard to body confidence, and utilize her techniques for achieving a healthy body image and mindset.

We often look at positive, successful people and assume that they’re happy and successful because it was given to them, and easy. We sometimes forget that often it’s because they set on a goal, worked hard, and didn’t give up. Chanie Wassner is a successful clinical pharmacist who has stayed positive, and continues to spread happiness and positivity, non-withstanding some serious challenges and losses on her journey. Chanie shared with me how, while working full time, putting herself through school, and having the sole burden of student loans, her hard work, dedication, and devotion helped her overcome her losses and future challenges. We also spoke about Chanie’s perspective and thoughts on the challenge of single women to maintain feelings of worthiness as in a society that values and emphasizes marriage. Chanie advocates how having a purpose unrelated to relationship status is vital to women’s feelings of self worth. Listen in and be inspired.

I’m so excited to launch our first podcast episode with Diana Falzone. You may have heard of her from her days as a journalist on Fox News or seen her articles in Vanity Fair. From the time she graduated college and began working, Diana has fought against gender discrimination to support ALL women. After discovering and being diagnosed with Endometriosis (a condition resulting from the appearance of endometrial tissue outside the uterus and causing pelvic pain) after 22 years of suffering with no diagnosis, Diana joined the advisory board of the Endo Foundation and continues to do all she can to spread awareness and education of the disease.
Diana unfortunately signed an NDA with Fox News after she left, so she wasn’t able to talk about her experience with gender discrimination while at Fox News with me. However as a public figure, information can be easily found online. My Google results showed that after Diana made the brave decision to go public with her Endometriosis diagnosis on the Fox News Website, she suffered gender and disability discrimination, and was banned from taking part in on-air activities at Fox News 3 days after the article was published. Her attorneys argued that the revelation regarding Falzone's infertility, "detracted from her sex appeal and made her less desirable" in the eyes of the "male-dominated senior management of Fox News.”
Diana and I had an informative and interesting conversation about how she ended up in journalism after majoring in psychology; her experience of living with Endo for 22 years before receiving a diagnosis (and how it usually takes women 10 years before receiving a diagnosis); her experience of living with Endo on a daily basis; finally receiving validation for her pain; and finally, what we can do to support our friends and family who are suffering with this disease.

Welcome to We Are Women, A Karmela Cosmetics Podcast, where women speak their truth and celebrate their victories. We all crave connection. At our core, we all want to feel loved and understood. Hi I’m Nechami, founder of Karmela Cosmetics, a company that produces high performance, natural beauty products and is dedicated to uniting and empowering women through the power of color. This podcast came about as a way to give a voice to ALL women, because we all have stories to share. It’s a place where we’ll learn about each other and ourselves, dive into important issues that affect us, discover all that we have in common, and make some memories. Each week, listen in as I chat with remarkable women and discuss topics like sexism in the workplace, PCOS, and domestic violence. You may recognize some of their voices but you don’t know their stories. Yet. So pour yourself a glass of red and get comfortable! Every night is ladies' night on We Are Women.
