Wow, listeners! Since there’s so much going on in the world of Film/TV, the Critic and the Referee have a lot to discuss (and keep up with). In this episode, they give you their takes on what they’ve seen, so far, at the New York Film Festival. (The festival’s public screenings begin Friday, September 30.) They also give you the highlights from the Urbanworld Film Festival, which just ended. But that’s not all. Two major films are in wide release Friday, so they just had to review them. The first film review is of “Deepwater Horizon,” which stars Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez, and Kate Hudson. Branding is a huge part of making a dent in today's very crowded business world. As technology allows people to enter the marketplace more easily, it's important to have a clear, strong brand that stands out.
For instance, Kim Kardarshian is definitely social media branding royalty and has no trouble garnering attention. She uses every way possible to keep people interested in her and her family's brands. A recent example occurred a few weeks ago, when she posted yet another nude picture of herself. Even Bette Midler had to respond. Whether you agree with Kim's approach or not, you can't argue that she always manages to be at the forefront of conversation, even if you don't believe that there's a talent to justify it.

Why Watch That Vintage
This week’s 66th Primetime Emmy Awards honored the amazing work of some of today’s most recognizable actors. But, what about the actors who are no longer as recognizable? So, we thought it would be useful to talk to someone who is doing just that and to share her process with you. In this episode, we interview Taisha Dent, a social worker who is passionate about preparing today’s youth for life, both personally and professionally. Her organization, Help Emotion World, develops video games to teach youth the value of workforce skills and emotional skills. What’s A.R.T.? It’s an acronym that the Mentor and the Visionary created to help you remember your business priorities:
A is for Affordable: Your idea should be something you can afford to give adequate time and resources to. In addition, the return on investment should be worth waiting for. If you need money now, go with a project that has a quick turnaround (e.g., baking cupcakes or washing cars). If you can afford to wait a little longer, go with a longterm project (e.g., a 12-city tour or that mobile app you've been thinking about creating). In other words, make sure that you can afford the investment.
R is for Relevant: Your idea needs to be relevant for you and for your target market. Since the return on your investment can take longer than expected, you must have enough passion to be able to develop your idea successfully for that market.
T is for Tested: Your idea should be more than just something that only you need or want. Make sure that other people want to pay for the idea you’re developing.
