Hello, Telepractice Today listeners! Kim and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for joining us each week and being such a fantastic part of the Telepractice Today community. Since launching the podcast back in May of 2020…right at the beginning of the COVID pandemic…., we’ve been honored to bring you weekly episodes dedicated to the latest in telepractice news, tips, and, of course, our in-depth interviews with professionals across Speech-Language Pathology, education, and allied health.
Well, we have some exciting plans in the works, so we’re taking a short break. We’ll be on hiatus for the next two months through November and December, but don’t worry—we’ll be back in early January with brand-new episodes and some surprises we can’t wait to share with you. This little break will allow us to recharge and bring you even more inspiring content in the new year.
Thank you again for your support, your enthusiasm, and for being part of the Telepractice Today family. Kim and I hope to see you at the ASHA Convention in Seattle the first week of December. Amity Cooper is a seasoned entrepreneur, trained mental health professional, and entrepreneurial coach.

My name is Stacey Mueller, and I have been in Education for 13-years and have taught in a few states and within various Special Education programs. I entered the Education world when moving with the Military proved to be difficult in the career world. I came to the realization while living in Germany that I needed a career that I could essentially move with me. I had always worked with children in some way, Learning Centers, Daycares, babysitting, etc. so why not become a teacher?
Now that my husband has retired from the Military, we are in our forever home, our forever state, Alaska. We have three children, one who is in college, one in high school, and one in middle school. I'm currently a RISE (Reaching Independence through Structured Environments) teacher and have been for 5-years now in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District in Wasilla, Alaska. Within my classroom, we use multiple modes of communication (modified ASL, pictures/visuals, tactiles, AAC, gestures, vocalizations). We, the RISE team, seek communication from all our students along with Julia LaHue (SLP), who teaches/supports Language and Communication through a remote/teletherapy platform.
My name is Julia LaHue. I am a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District (MSBSD). I have been an SLP for 13 years, and an SLP-A for 6 years. I have worked remotely for a total of 6 years, in person for the rest of the time. I have worked in home health, skilled nursing, rehabilitation centers, clinics, etc. I got my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Houston and my Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University. I have had the immense pleasure to work with Stacey Mueller and her team for the last 5 years. We have worked to help our students develop multiple means of communicating, to grow and adapt with them.

Kim Dutro Allen graduated with a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Utah State University. She is a licensed speech-language pathologist in Utah, Idaho, and California and has been certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) since 2011. During graduate school, she participated in the Graduate Studies Program in Listening and Spoken Language, where she worked with children with hearing loss and their families. During this experience, she was introduced to telepractice as a service delivery model.
Kim has worked in early intervention, public school, and private practice settings. She has been providing therapy services through telepractice since 2016 and loves sharing her passion for this service delivery model with others!
K. Todd Houston, Ph.D. is a Founding Partner & the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the 3C Digital Media Network, LLC, the parent company that produces Telepractice Today. His professional background is in Speech-Language Pathology, and he’s currently a Professor in the School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the University of Akron.
For nearly 20 years, Todd has been a national and international leader in the area of telepractice service delivery. Todd continues to publish books, peer-reviewed articles, and book chapters on a range of topics that include telepractice, listening and spoken language for children with hearing loss, and parent coaching in early intervention. Likewise, Todd is a sought-after consultant and speaker at national and international conferences.
In September of 2024, Todd launched Sunburst Coaching & Consulting, a new Life Coaching practice focused on assisting speech-language pathologists, educators, and allied health professionals who are facing limiting beliefs, imposter syndrome, burnout, and negative mindsets. Shari Robertson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, ASHA Fellow, Board Certified Specialist in Child Language (BCS-CL) is a professor emerita and retired Associate Provost at Indiana University of PA and the CEO of Dynamic Resources. Prior to moving into academia, Robertson spent 20 years in the public schools as a broad range SLP and Administrator and she continues to be a strong advocate and innovator in areas related to schools-based intervention. Dr. Robertson’s has received the Editors Award for Language by the Journal of Speech-Language-Hearing Research as well as the Annie Glenn National Award for Leadership in Language and Literacy. Dr. JJ Whicker is a pediatric audiologist, clinical researcher, chief operating officer and co-owner at Little Heroes Pediatric Hearing Clinic. As a clinician, JJ works with children who are cochlear implanted and completes diagnostic testing for infants who refer on their newborn hearing screen. Dr. Whicker also runs the Central Auditory Processing Disorders program. As a researcher, JJ is interested in understanding the unique challenges posed to parents of children who are Deaf or Hard-of-hearing (DHH) with other disabilities, and how those challenges shift parents’ priority for their children’s hearing-related needs. He is also interested in understanding the challenges faced by adolescents who are DHH as they prepare to transition to post-secondary opportunities.

Hadijat Muftau-Lediju is a dedicated occupational therapist known for her unique approach to therapy, integrating video games to enhance skill development. She has a background working with adults with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and dementia, later dedicating over four years to pediatrics in clinical and school settings. In these roles, she integrates video games, technology, assistive tech, and game design methods into therapy (e.g., executive functioning through inventory management, main quests and side quests, and working memory). In addition to her contributions to DeepWell TDx, she serves as a consultant with Cephable, an assistive technology software company.
Hadijat has also been a featured speaker at notable events, including the Game Devs of Color Expo (September 18-21, 2024), where she presented "How Your Game Can Be Used in Rehabilitation and Therapy," and the 2nd Annual Black Girl Gamers Summit (August 3, 2024), where she discussed "Protect Your Mental." Dr. Gilliam, better known as “Dr. Jay,” is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and Founder of Jabber Talk Speech and Consulting, PLLC. She is passionate about providing skilled speech therapy services to the early childhood and school-aged populations. My name is Paola Alvarez. I am born and raised in Puerto Rico. I studied Biotechnology in the University of Puerto Rico Ponce Campus. Then studied the Speech Language Pathology Masters in the University of Puerto Rico Medical Science Campus. I was chosen for an internship in NYC the summer before the COVID-19 pandemic started. I spent a month in NYC learning and working on my clinical practice. Graduated during the pandemic. I worked in the school and clinic setting with face shields and many other anti-covid protocols for a year. I heard about virtual therapy and decided to investigate it and apply for some virtual jobs. I discovered the bliss of staying at home while doing the work I love. I have been working virtually for almost three years now and I love it. I am currently working in Alaska with the cutest caseload ever. I see myself doing virtual therapy for many more years.

Keylonda Wheeler has always had a passion for helping others which inspired her to earn her master's degree in speech pathology. She enjoys supporting the pediatric population in the school setting and incorporating literacy and the arts into therapy sessions. In 2015, Keylonda was introduced to the telepractice setting and embraced the concept of using technology to "work smart and not hard"! Practicing speech and language therapy in public, private, and virtual schools for over 10 years, she has become increasingly aware of the need to create literature that brings acceptance of differences and disabilities.This awareness helped to inspire Keylonda to write the Inclusive K.R.E.W.E. children's book series which includes a rhyming book that provides readers an overview of school-based speech therapy in a way that children can understand. She is currently a related services manager of an amazing team of SLPs, school psychologists, occupational therapists, and special education teachers providing both teletherapy and in-person services in New Hampshire and Maine schools. I'm Tali Kellerstein, Speech-Language Pathologist, Author, Speaker and Founder.
After graduating with my M.H.Sc. from the University of Toronto, I practiced for a decade as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the (Motor) Speech program at The Speech and Stuttering Institute (SSI), where I gained extensive experience treating children with moderate-severe motor speech disorders.
In 2015, I began to work full-time at my home-based clinic, The Speak Boutique. I am dedicated to working with children with Speech Sound Disorders including Childhood Apraxia of Speech and have completed extensive additional training in these areas including PROMPT Certification (2013) and the Apraxia Kids Bootcamp (2021). In January 2022, I was Recognized by Apraxia Kids for Advanced Training in Childhood Apraxia of Speech. At The Speak Boutique clinic, I provide virtual assessment and therapy for children four years and older with difficulty in areas of articulation, phonology, and motor speech.

Emma Justice is a pediatric Speech Language Pathologist, Certified Lactation Counselor and guest speaker serving patients in the greater Boston area. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), pediatric rehab and most recently the public school system.
Emma is the owner of Justice For Infant Feeding Therapy and Lactation where she provides in home and Telehealth services. Heidi is an inpatient speech-language pathologist at University of Virginia Children’s Hospital. Maria del Pilar Londoño is a certified and licensed bilingual Speech Language Pathologist, with more than 30 years of experience. She received her undergraduate degree from the Universidad del Rosario (Bogotá, Colombia) and her master’s degree from the VIC University (Spain). Pilar also underwent extended training in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has provided individual and group therapy in preschool, hospital, educational, and private clinic settings. Pilar was a professor of the speech therapy program in Universidad del Valle (Cali-Colombia) and currently works as a home health speech language pathologist in Texas, providing evaluation, therapy, and parent training.

Jen is an experienced Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. She graduated from The College of New Jersey, where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Deaf Education, Elementary Education, and English, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching. She has worked as both a classroom teacher and an itinerant teacher, and has used a variety of communication methods to meet the unique needs of her students. After working in schools for several years, Jen made the switch to telepractice in order to be able to spend more time with her family. Now, she enjoys having the opportunity to make connections with people across the country while teaching remotely.

Lauren Hastings is a speech-language pathologist, private practice owner, business coach, podcaster, and Ph.D. student. Karin Hartunian Koukeyan ("Car-EEN Har-TOON-Ian Koo-K-YAWN"), M.S., CCC-SLP has been a telepractice clinical manager in both education and healthcare for over a decade. She has over 20 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist working in a variety of settings including Outpatient Clinics, Schools, Early Intervention, Home Health, and Private Practice. Elise Mitchell, M.S. Irene Brettman, M.S., CCC-SLP is a doctoral candidate at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, where she also received her master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2013. She is a speech-language pathologist at the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Boston, where she focuses primarily on inpatient acute and outpatient care, including modified barium swallow studies. Rachel Archambault, M.A. CCC-SLP is a nationally recognized speech-language pathologist who specializes in trauma-informed care (TIC). Rachel found TIC after experiencing a traumatic event at work on 2/14/18. She was looking for ways to help her students who had just undergone trauma as well as herself. I was born in Mexico City and lived there until I was 9 years old. From 9 until 20 I lived in Houston Texas. It was in my time in Texas that I came to the field of speech-language pathology. I was blessed with a brother in 1992 who was later diagnosed with Autism. As a significantly older sister, I often took my little brother Danny to a variety of therapies (speech, OT, sensory, etc.). In 2001 I moved to Tampa, Florida, where I completed my undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of South Florida (Go Bulls). I have been serving monolingual and bilingual children and families with communication delays/disorders since 2006. I've been fortunate enough to work in the school system, early intervention, hospital and in private practice. I have my Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA and am licensed by the DOH in Washington DC and in Virginia. After 15 years as an SLP, I decided to take my passion for helping families in a new direction and Bilingual SLP LLC was created. I am blessed to truly love what I do. I am passionate about dual language learning, creating fun speech therapy materials, and helping monolingual SLPs feel more comfortable serving bilinguals.

Joan L. Green, MA CCC-SLP, is a nationally known speech-language pathologist, assistive technology specialist, author, course creator, and presenter. After growing up in Buffalo, NY, she pursued her undergraduate and graduate education at Northwestern University in Illinois. Yao Du is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Speech-Language Pathology at the Caruso Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. The virtual voice assistive technology (VAT) training is currently enrolling adults with cognitive and communication disorders (18 years old above) and caregivers to join 12-week audio and video recorded Zoom sessions, in which you will receive a FREE Amazon Echo Show device (per participant-caregiver dyad) and training on a variety of voice commands on topics such as setting reminders, selfcare/medical needs, meal preparation, news and facts, and entertainment in their daily activities. At the end of the training, our team will engage in a 1.5 hour long debrief interview where team members and caregivers will share their thoughts on the training and the device

Amy has been providing telepractice since 2011. The 2022 ASHA Convention was held November 16-19 in New Orleans, LA. More than 8,500 participants attended one-hour sessions, two-hour masterclasses, and poster sessions focused a range of communication disorders. Kristin earned both her B.A. in Communication Science and Disorders and her Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Pittsburgh. She also holds a certificate in the Conceptual Foundations of Medicine. She has worked in Pittsburgh Public Schools Early Intervention program, providing speech and language therapy to the 3-5 age group. In addition to serving children with articulation, phonological, fluency and language disorders in this position, Kristin worked within the program's autism support and multiple disabilities classrooms. Currently, Kristin works for a local Intermediate Unit providing services to school-age children in the Pittsburgh area.
In addition to her work with children in the Pittsburgh area, Kristin has traveled extensively utilizing her knowledge of speech, language, and teaching. In 2010 she taught English to children in Tanzania, followed by a month in India teaching English to adult Tibetan refugees. In 2012, she worked on a team with the Bosnia Autism Project, where she traveled to Sarajevo to help provide training and skills to professionals working with children with autism, as well as their families.
Kristin is committed to providing the best services for each client and is excited about being able to provide private therapy to further meet the needs of children and adults in Pittsburgh. In order to do this, she is regularly involved in trainings and continuing education. She also develops many of her own materials, customized for the goals and needs of her students and clients.

After serving for a year as a volunteer speech language pathologist at an orphanage in Guatemala in 2013, Amanda Blackwell has been living and working full-time in the country for over 7 years. Amanda completed a clinical doctorate in speech language pathology and started the official professional association for local Guatemalan speech therapists (SomosTLgt), which has grown to more than 300 members over the past year. In January 2020, she began working toward a Doctor of Education degree at Murray State University with the goal of opening a university for allied health professions in Guatemala to improve the quality of services across the country. She currently directs the speech therapy departments at FUNDAL (for individuals with deafblindness and multiple disabilities) and the Guatemalan Association of Down Syndrome in Guatemala City, teaches a course about teletherapy through UOC in Barcelona, Spain, provides teletherapy services for public school students in the United States, runs an autism education social project for Spanish speakers called LUNA (@lunautismo), and is part of the ASHA-PAHO ad hoc committee for Ecuador. She was a clinical supervisor of graduate students at the University of California San Marcos doing teletherapy in the Summer of 2020 and she is an adjunct research fellow working with five doctoral students in the SLPD program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah. She is a life-long learner herself and also loves providing dynamic training on various topics to school districts and SLPs around the world.
Donna-Lee Zmenak is a Speech and Language Pathologist who has practiced for over 34 years predominantly in the area of Acquired Brain Injury, Cognitive Communication and Language Learning Disabilities. Having attended Bowling Green State University on an Academic Scholarship, Donna attained her Master Degree in 1988. Since this time she has worked in hospital, school board and community settings. In 1995 Donna began to work as a private SLP and opened her first clinic in 1998.
Donna was chosen as an “Expert” in Aquired Brain injury by her peers and the College of Audiologists and Speech and Language Pathologists of Ontario.
Donna has been a guest speaker and has introduced mindfulness practice and complimentary forms of therapy at numerous forums including Ontario Brain Injury Association conferences , Schools and Community Events. For over 15 years Donna has studied alternative and complimentary forms of mind body healing, biofield healing and various other energy healing modalities. Through this passion for understanding our own self and this our unique relationship to the energetic world around us, Donna endeavours to integrate the functional practice of self-empowered healing and connection as the basic premise of authentic communication competence. Donna’s studies have lead to her vocational expansion where she introduces the concept of Energetic Resonance into the therapeutic style of Speech Language Pathologists and Rehabilitation Therapists as essential for the evolution of therapy and improved patient outcomes.
Donna’s most powerful teacher was the experience of having success in engaging heart, mind and soul in her own process of healing and recovery from advanced cancer. Donna most recently has been predominantly featured in the new best selling book “The Myth of Normal” and has been acclaimed by the author Dr. Gabor Maté as having the heart and mind to heal and to guide others on their journey. Currently Donna also teaches and runs workshops on “How Healing Happens” to both professionals and the general public. Amy Hill is the Arizona Executive Director of Clinical Support for Light Street Special Education Solutions. She has been a Speech Language Pathologist since 1998 and has provided services to children in the Arizona school system. Christina Bloodworth is a Speech Language Pathologist and LSLS certified Auditory Verbal Therapist. She is a member of the cochlear implant team at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego. Bailey Morgan is a CCC-SLP with experience working in schools, private practice, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities. After working on the NYC frontlines during the pandemic, Bailey saw firsthand a heavy reliance on technology to keep therapy services accessible and to keep families in contact with their loved ones. She now spends 100% of her time dedicated to making technology accessible, intuitive, and easy to use for both clinicians and their clients. Bailey is an advocate for teletherapy and the access to services it provides for children who don’t have an in-person therapist available to them.
Virginia Ingram is a CCC-SLP and digital strategist who helps those with communication needs interact with those most important to them. With a 20+ year stint at agencies and start-ups, she has focused her career on technology-sparked solutions for business and life while transitioning her digital strategy work into both a clinical and strategic position. Clinically, Virginia has a keen interest in delivering therapy to individuals with gender dysphoria and those who are Deaf or hard of hearing (particularly those who have recently received hearing aids or a cochlear implant). Charissa is a mother to three beautiful children. She is a survivor of a rare and aggressive cancer. She works as a Children's Mental Health Therapist and enjoys serving and volunteering. Charissa loves her Little Free Library that looks like Hogwarts. She enjoys creating, bringing her children on adventures, camping, and traveling. During cancer Charissa discovered how therapeutic writing was for her. I am an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist and have provided speech-language therapy services through my private practice, Jill Shook Therapy, since 2015.
In 2017, I decided that I was tired of having to reinvent the wheel whenever I had a question about my practice, because I couldn’t afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a course, and nothing I found seemed to have the information listed out in steps.
I sat down to write out a “quick checklist” for other SLPs… and 10 months later had created my own 4-hour course that I called Private Practice Prep School. I posted it to Teachable. It spread quickly by word of mouth, and by the time I closed the doors in 2019, hundreds of SLPs had benefited from it.
I re-recorded the course and launched it via Northern Speech Services in 2019, so it could reach as many SLPs as possible. It’s now called Private Practice Essentials and offers 3.5 ASHA CEU’s.
I still see private speech therapy clients part time in addition to consulting and presenting, because I am so passionate about supporting other SLPs.
I love to spend time with my family, and on the rare occasion that I have a spare minute, I love to run, read trashy romance novels and nonfiction history (my record is 146 books in 2021), and indulge in Handel's Ice Cream (my favorite flavor is Banana Cream Pie. Have you tried it?)
Tammy Leimer is a licensed social worker and certified home and school visitor whose work is focused on providing counseling for students K-12 as well as support and resources for their families. Tammy has extensive experience working with students who have been diagnosed with emotional disturbances and students with a variety of developmental disorders. Her professional experience has led her to develop countless social emotional experiences for students including facilitated recess, cooperative and inclusive learning opportunities, truancy reduction programs, and community leadership. In her 16-year public school profession, Tammy has served as the district crisis response social worker, mental health and drug task force committee member, suicide prevention committee lead, Fuel Up to Play 60 district advisor, and board member for the county office of children and youth services.
Tammy's passion for advocating for others started as early as middle school where she created a make-shift social lunch group to assist her peers in feeling more included. She's happy to be able to continue working to empower others and making resources more available to those in her community.

Dr. Deborah R. Campbell is the owner and president of Superior Therapy Services, Inc. She has been a Certified and Licensed Speech/Language Pathologist for over 27 years. Dr. Campbell is also a Certified Dyslexia Testing and Treatment Specialist. She currently is the chair for the Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists’ (FLASHA) Government Relations Medicaid Committee.
Dr. Campbell additionally works as a special education advocate with the Special Education Law and Advocacy practice and is a visiting research scholar at the University of South Florida.
In 2021, she received FLASHA’s “Clinician of the Year” award and is a 2022 nominee for ASHA’s Louis DiCarlo award. Between 2021 and 2022, she published three studies on the COVID-19 pandemic and telehealth.
Howard Goldstein is Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences at University of South Florida- Tampa. His research has focused on improving the communication and social skills of children with autism and other developmental disabilities. His recent work has sought to enhance the language and literacy development of students in high poverty schools who are at high risk for language and reading disabilities. He is the author of 2 books, 2 curricula, and over 150 scholarly journal articles and book chapters and a nationally known scholar for his research in the field of child language intervention. He served as ASHA Vice President for Science and Research 2013-2015. Dr. Goldstein’s contributions to the field were recognized through Honors of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2016 and Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2020.
Sean Sweeney, MS, MEd, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist and technology consultant working in private practice at The Ely Center in Newton, MA and at Boston University. Sean spent over a decade in the public school setting serving in the roles of SLP and instructional technology specialist. His blog, SpeechTechie, was inspired by the combination of those complementary vocations and a desire to empower those in his field to employ technology in their work. Sarah N. Douglas, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. She started her career as a special education teacher for children with disabilities and complex communication needs, and continued on to academia obtaining a degree in Special Education from Penn State University. Her research focuses on autism, developmental disabilities, paraeducators, augmentative and alternative communication including interventions and technologies to support social and communication skill development for children with disabilities. Many of her interventions are conducted via telepractice and she gathers much of her research data using telepractice approaches. Emeritus Professor Deborah Theodoros of the University of Queensland, Australia, is considered an international expert in the delivery of telepractice services in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. She has published numerous research articles and book chapters on the use of telepractice to provide services to patients with motor speech disorders and related diagnoses. She continues to collaborate on research studies with her colleagues, and Professor Theodoros remains in high demand as a speaker at professional conferences internationally.
Nathan coordinates clinical services and provides telepractice services for school-aged children. He is a lead instructor in Waldo County General Hospital's speech telepractice training program. He has taught telepractice courses at universities. Nathan has presented at national conferences on speech telepractice and integrating speech therapy services into school curricula. He has co-written articles in the ASHA Leader and presented webinars for ASHA on integrating literacy in preschool telepractice services. Nathan enjoys developing authentic materials.

Karin Hartunian Koukeyan, M.S., CCC-SLP is currently the Head of Telehealth and Clinical Standards at SLPTELE, LLC., a nationwide provider of clinic-based telehealth services. Karin has over 20 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist working in a variety of settings including Early Intervention, Home Health, Clinics, Private Practice, and Schools. Her experience growing up as a first generation immigrant in a multilingual home inspired Karin to pursue a career in Speech-Language Pathology. Melissa Jakubowitz, M.A. CCC-SLP, is the President and Founder of əLiveNow which provides telepractice services and training to clinicians, universities and school districts. She is a Board-Certified Specialist in Child Language with extensive administrative experience running a multi-office private practice and leading a telepractice company clinical department. Ms. Jakubowitz has presented on a variety of issues including private practice, language disorders in school age children and telepractice. She has extensive experience working directly with school age students in various settings in addition to leadership positions in both work settings and professional associations.
Ms. Jakubowitz has served ASHA and related organizations as a former president of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association and California Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists in Private Practice. Ms Jakubowitz was elected to serve on the Legislative Council for 13 years and one year on the ASHA Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council. As a member of the Legislative Council she was elected to serve as Chair of the Credential Committee. She was appointed to the ASHA Board of Ethics where she served on the Education Subcommittee and was Chair of this subcommittee in 2010. Ms. Jakubowitz was invited to participate in the Leadership Development Program at ASHA and has served as a convention program committee member in the topic area Language and Learning in School-Age Children and Adolescents, Business, Management and Professional Issues and as the Topic Chair for Telepractice for two years. Ms. Jakubowitz served on the SIG 18 Coordinating Committee and was the Coordinator for 5 years. She served as Convention Co-Chair for ASHA in 2018 and is currently the BSIGC Chair. Ms. Jakubowitz is a recipient of the Honors of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a Fellow of ASHA. She was also the California recipient of the DiCarlo Award in 2013.
With over 12 years of telepractice experience, Lesley Edwards-Gaither, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, has managed and researched many aspects of telepractice technology and service delivery. Lesley received her Ph.D. from Howard University, Washington DC, completing a dissertation study on the use of eHelpers in teletherapy sessions. She is currently an adjunct professor at George Washington University and an independent eLearning consultant developing online courses and training programs for Speech-Language Pathologists. Her research areas include the intersections of communication, culture, and technology. She currently serves as a continuing education manager for SIG 18 Telepractice and a reviewer for several professional publications.
Susan L. Whitney, DPT, PhD, NCS, ATC, FAPTA received her PhD in motor development/motor learning from the University of Pittsburgh and her professional physical therapy education from Temple University. She is a professor in the Departments of Physical Therapy and Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Whitney is supported by the Department of Defense to develop technology for persons with vestibular disorders and mild brain injury. Dr. Whitney has authored or coauthored over 180 articles on Medline and is currently engaged in research related to concussion and persons with balance and vestibular disorders.
I was born in Mexico City and lived there until I was 9 years old. From 9 until 20 I lived in Houston Texas. It was in my time in Texas that I came to the field of speech-language pathology. I was blessed with a brother in 1992 who was later diagnosed with Autism. As a significantly older sister, I often took my little brother Danny to a variety of therapies (speech, OT, sensory, etc.). In 2001 I moved to Tampa, Florida, where I completed my undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of South Florida (Go Bulls). I have been serving monolingual and bilingual children and families with communication delays/disorders since 2006. I've been fortunate enough to work in the school system, early intervention, hospital and in private practice. I have my Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA and am licensed by the DOH in Washington DC and in Virginia. After 15 years as an SLP, I decided to take my passion for helping families in a new direction and Bilingual SLP LLC was created. I am blessed to truly love what I do. I am passionate about dual language learning, creating fun speech therapy materials, and helping monolingual SLPs feel more comfortable serving bilinguals.
Sue Ann Lee, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a professor of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock TX. Lee has held a professorship for 17 years after earning the master and Ph.D. degrees in speech-language pathology at Ohio State University and the University of Texas at Austin, respectively. Her interest in telepractice was highly motivated by observing underserved children in rural areas of West Texas. As the first generation of Korean-American SLP, Lee is always interested in healthcare disparity and global outreach. Lee has been awarded a grant from the National Institute of Dental Craniofacial Research to conduct telepractice intervention research for children with repaired cleft palate. As an active ASHA member, she serves on the multicultural issues board and editorial board member of Perspectives Journal. Lee also serves as the President of the Asia Pacific Society of Speech, Language, and Hearing.
Nerissa Hall, PhD, CCC-SLP, ATP is co-founder of Commūnicāre, LLC, a company specializing in augmentative and alternative communication, assistive technology, and tele-AAC working primarily with school-aged individuals, providing specialized, evidence-based intervention, assessment and consultation services. Nerissa received her Master and Doctorate degrees from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, focusing on tele-AAC, and has presented nationally regarding this and other related topics. Dr. Michelle Boisvert received her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is a practicing speech language pathologist and has researched the use and application of telepractice for school-based services. Dr. Boisvert has published numerous articles and book chapters on telepractice, tele-AAC, and workload strategies. I’m an Australian trained Speech Pathologist with 10 years of experience. Kristin Martinez received her M.A. in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and has been a speech-language pathologist for over 20 years. Sarah Wu is a speech-language pathologist based in the Chicago suburbs with over 15 years of experience. Dena Stephenson is a physical therapist and Director of Therapy Services at Ogden Regional Medical Center in Ogden, Utah. She has been a physical therapist for 19 years and has worked in acute care hospitals, charter schools, outpatient clinics, home health and skilled nursing facilities. Dena loves treating patients and focuses all her management responsibilities on improving patient care by supporting the therapists on her team. She recently oversaw the use of on-site teletherapy to preserve personal protective equipment and provide valuable speech therapy services to patients with Covid-19 and dysphagia. Dena only treats a few patients a week in her director role but she loves to help family and friends improve their movement patterns and decrease pain, by teaching them integrative movement techniques in-person and often through teletherapy.

I am a bilingually certified Speech-Language Pathologist in New York. I am the first person in my family to be born in America and to have graduated from college. Greek was my first language and I did not speak English until I was 3 years old. I work with students and clients of all ages. My youngest client was 1 year old and my oldest client was 65 years old. Judy P. Walker is a Professor and Coordinator of the University of Maine Speech Therapy Telepractice Program. Dr. Walker has extensive clinical experience working in medical centers, rehabilitation hospitals, and long-term health care facilities. Her academic and research interests include: speech therapy telepractice, neurolinguistics, and cognitive neuroscience. Dr. Walker established the University of Maine Speech Therapy Telepractice Program whose mission encompasses graduate student telepractice clinical training while providing speech therapy telepractice services to children and adults throughout Maine and at an international school in Fiji. She provides clinical supervision to graduate students in the speech therapy telepractice practicum and teaches graduate courses in traumatic brain injury, aphasia, right hemisphere damage and dementia. Her research focuses on improving the quality of life of people with aphasia and their caregivers through participation in synchronous telepractice groups. She consults with numerous academic programs and agencies who are interested in starting a telepractice program. Dr. Walker has also been invited to write book chapters and give presentations on topics related to the speech therapy telepractice service delivery model.
MaryBeth Richards assists in the telepractice program with supervision and training of the graduate student clinicians. MaryBeth has experience working in the infant, preschool, and school-age populations as well as in the acute care and home health settings. MaryBeth is currently the Maine representative to the American Speech Hearing Association’s Speech Language Pathology Advisory Council.
Dawn Cotter-Jenkins, MA CCC-SLP, MS Healthcare Informatics, is the CIO and president of, World Class Speech Services (wcspeech.com ). Katie Walters is a Speech-Language Pathologist who currently serves the school-aged population as a teletherapist. She has worked in a variety of settings with both pediatric and adult populations. Katie lives in Knoxville, TN with her husband, Chris, and their two pups Rosie and Gracie.
Molly is a Speech/Language Pathologist and Certified Auditory Verbal Therapist with a passion for supporting families and their children with hearing loss work toward reaching their individual potential. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders from the University of Redlands in Southern California, and Master’s degree from San Francisco State University. She served as the SLP for the Cochlear Implant Team at Children’s Hospital Oakland, and in a lovely twist of fate has returned now that it is called UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland working specifically as a research SLP on a study focused on the efficacy of telepractice. In the dozen years between these jobs, she worked for BabyTalk Teleintervention, early intervention programs for children with hearing loss in West Contra Costa Unified School District, Center for Early Intervention on Deafness, Regional Center of the East Bay, Utah School for the Deaf and Blind and operated a successful private practice in Salt Lake City prior to returning to sunny California. She lives on a couple acres with her husband, two daughters, two dogs, and three cats outside of Sacramento. Hannah Eskridge, MSP, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert AVT, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology/ Head and Neck Surgery at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the Director of the Children’s Cochlear Implant Center at UNC. She has been working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families for 20 years. She conducts Listening and Spoken Language parent participation sessions and tele-therapy sessions. Her primary interests are related to the use of strengths based coaching with professionals throughout the world in order to see the field of Listening and Spoken Language expand as well as working with families just beginning their journey in teaching their children to listen and talk, particularly vulnerable families with limited resources.
Melissa Anderson, AuD, CCC-A is an audiologist at the Children’s Cochlear Implant Center at UNC. She graduated with her Au.D. from the University of Florida in 2014 and has been working at the Children’s Cochlear Implant Center at UNC since 2017. Jasper Estabillo, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Clinical Psychology Fellow in the UCLA PEERS Clinic and a Postdoctoral Scholar in the UCLA Department of Psychology. Georgia A. Malandraki, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, is Associate Professor of Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences at Purdue University and a Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing Disorders. She investigates developmental and treatment neuroplasticity, and rehabilitative and telehealth interventions for dysphagia. Malandraki has 15 years of experience in telehealth for dysphagia management, and her work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and several foundations. Kendra Fark is an SLP who earned her master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2010. Barbara Hecht, director of Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech in the Boston area (Clarke Boston), received her undergraduate degree in linguistics and psychology at Harvard University and her PhD in linguistics and child language development at Stanford University. Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech recently completed a project investigating telepractice policies for early intervention (EI) providers across the country. In partnership with Brown University graduate students in public affairs, Clarke conducted a state-by-state national survey of policies, funding sources and reimbursement eligibility for EI telepractice services. This national scan revealed a diverse landscape across the country.
Clarke is a pioneer in providing and evaluating the impact of listening and spoken language (LSL) EI services via videoconferencing, offering its first tVISIT (telepractice Virtual Intervention Services for Infants and Toddlers) Program session in early 2013.

Dr. Jill Gilkerson is the Chief Research and Evaluation Officer at LENA and leads all research and analysis activities. Since joining the team in 2005, Jill has been instrumental to just about every major initiative involving LENA. She manages a team of researchers responsible for collecting and analyzing the spontaneous speech data used for software development, the LENA normative scales, and a wide range of academic research studies. Jill is a recognized expert in the relationship between parent talk and child language development, and her research has focused on the relationship between early language environment and demographic variables such as birth order, gender, and TV exposure. Jill led LENA’s efforts through the launch and scaling of Providence Talks. Jill earned a BA in developmental psychology from UCLA. Marissa Rocheleau, M.A., CCC-SLP graduated from Indiana University in 2012 with a Masters in Speech Pathology. After serving for a year as a volunteer speech language pathologist at an orphanage in Guatemala in 2013, Amanda Blackwell has been living and working full-time in the country for over 7 years. Amanda completed a clinical doctorate in speech language pathology and started the official professional association for local Guatemalan speech therapists (SomosTLgt), which has grown to more than 300 members over the past year. In January 2020, she began working toward a Doctor of Education degree at Murray State University with the goal of opening a university for allied health professions in Guatemala to improve the quality of services across the country. She currently directs the speech therapy departments at FUNDAL (for individuals with deafblindness and multiple disabilities) and the Guatemalan Association of Down Syndrome in Guatemala City, teaches a course about teletherapy through UOC in Barcelona, Spain, provides teletherapy services for public school students in the United States, runs an autism education social project for Spanish speakers called LUNA (@lunautismo), and is part of the ASHA-PAHO ad hoc committee for Ecuador. Lisa Kathman and Sarah Bevier are graduates of Arizona State University with master's degrees in Communication Disorders and have over 40 years combined experience in the field of speech-language pathology. Noralee Jones is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist of 10 years, mom of four kids under 7 and a military spouse. In her career, she has worked with a variety of age groups and settings and have been practicing tele-practice for the last 6 years primarily with school age children. Noralee feels that as a military spouse, telepractice has served her well as it has provided her with the ability to continue to build her skills and to serve her patients even through several moves and her husband’s deployments.
