COIFFEUR EXTRAORDINAIRE - Waiting for Legros is the spinoff of BOB: The Non-Union Psychic.
Director Lance Lucero teased the story of Legros the last time he was on. For more on that click here.
Now, Lance found some time between festivals to tell us what it was like bringing a figure from history to life in COIFFEUR EXTRAORDINAIRE - Waiting for Legros.

Christian Prosperie was first introduced to ASAP Imagination through the anthology Perspectives. Not only did he get to share a brilliant story that benefited the dyspraxia foundation, but Christian was inspired to publish a collection of short stories in the anthology Across the Astral Frontier.
Space is not a natural environment for humans and the further we explore, the more we discover just how many dangers exist in a vacuum.
Across the Astral Frontier
As humanity reaches out…a universe awakens. Humanity in the far future, long believing we had reached our astral limit, now can extend beyond our home solar system. This ignites a new age of unchecked exploration. However, the blind ambition of uncovering the mysteries of the cosmos will turn the eyes of the universe toward us. These eight harrowing incidents are glimpses of the unforgiving nature of the unknown.

Perspectives
In ASAP IMAGINATION’s first-ever charity anthology, every single writer that has been involved in this project has given you one of the greatest gifts possible—a part of their imagination. This is no small gift because they are giving you a piece of themselves, a world that they brought to life. That’s how powerful and precious their perspectives are.

A.R. Farina is a writer, colleague, and friend who has invited me to appear on his podcast Indie Comics Spotlight to talk about comics. We've had great conversations, but during it all one of the things we never talked about is how A.R. Farina has been writing novels. Many novels.
The wait is over and I had the great fortune of being one of the first to sit down and talk about the debut novel with the author.
About Welcome to Mansfield
Junior Price wanted desperately to get out of her small town and the demands of her big family. Upon winning a scholarship to an elite private college thousands of miles away, she packed her bags and went to find her place in the world. She soon discovers that she may not be ready to be out on her own.
Mansfield College is full of the rich and the wealthy who play by a whole different set of rules than Junior understands. She tries her best to fit in and follow her heart only to discover that her small-town southern charm doesn’t work on everyone.
Will she become someone she doesn’t recognize to try to make everyone happy or will she find herself as she becomes the young woman she wants to be? This book is a modern-day, coming-of-age retelling of the classic Jane Austen story filled with heartache and friendship.

DW Howard (Nemesis) is the third member of the team building the connected universe of ASAP Imagination. I was introduced to the concept by L.A. Cunningham during a discussion about her book BABIES WITH RABIES. Then I spoke with HAYDES who explained how he founded ASAP Imagination and began collaborating with Nemesis and L.A.
This time around, Nemesis takes me through the story of OPSEC, the, well- I'll let him explain all of that. There are also teases about Level 8, and the upcoming novel The Long Game.
Is there more? Sure... so press play and hear it all!
About DW Howard - Taken from his website
D.W. Howard is a poet, writer, and author of the upcoming novel The Long Game. He is a writer of science fiction and supernatural thrillers. Besides novels and short stories, he writes for UK-based ASAP Comics developing new stories for Level 8 and OPSEC. D.W. is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and tries to bring those experiences into his writing. He lives and works out of his home in Riverside, California with his wife and three children. It's not easy making your way in the world. For a non-union psychic like BOB, well, I'll let you hear it directly from the Warehouse 9 Productions website.
"This is not your usual paranormal adventure. This is about the rise of a new kind of hero. Or, rather, the reluctant rise of a hero…
Meet Bob Holbreck – Renegade Psychic, Professional Hairstylist. He owns and operates a nice little barber shop in the trendy part of town. His clientele is growing with loyal customers. Bob truly knows what looks good on a customer before they do.
How does he do it? Well, Bob has other talents. There are those who may consider it a gift. Like his great-grandfather, who is at odds about Bob’s current career choice. Gramps wants him to cash in on his psychic abilities.
That’s right; Bob has mad psychic abilities. It’s tough for Gramps to see his progeny’s talents go to waste. Bob can do it all: he can see the life force, or “aura,” which surrounds every living human being. He can have visions of the past and future upon contact. Bob can see spirits and other forms of energy existing with the world of the living. Not only can he see them, he can interact with them, even dispel them if necessary."
Pretty wild, right?
Then I talk to Lance Lucero who is not only the writer and creator of BOB but the founder of Warehouse 9 Production, and director of the movie about Legros, the original owner of the legendary scissors that BOB carries with him. You should listen.
Then when you're done check out all of the places where you can find BOB, Legros, and so much more:

I first heard about HAYDES (P.A. Hayden) from L.A.Cunningham. When HAYDES and I sat down for a chat we explored the connections between poetry, stand-up, and comics, a shared appreciation of WildStorm's The Authority, and cost-efficient cosplay. But that was just scratching the surface.
Hear all about the birth of a comics publisher, ASAP's connected universe, the chance to publish your comic through NE1 World, and the exciting possibilities behind the newly announced GIG. Visit the link tree below to find out more about the exciting possibilities happening right now.

This all started way back in March of this year. It is now December 1, 2022. I know that patience is sometimes called a virtue, but in this case, I believe it is also a value, and like all things so much more. This conversation is a gift. It's the kind of experience I hope to leave behind every time. And like every conversation that has come before and the many more that I hope will come after, it holds the same truths. It says this is one experience, this is one understanding, your moments will be different, and the more of our moments that we share with each other the greater insight we gain.
Kameron White is a comic artist, illustrator, and designer who works with traditional and digital mediums, including ink, pencil, watercolor, and digital formats. His favorite things to create original characters and worlds, fashion designs, and fun, eccentric stories. Within his work, he aims and works towards displaying a diverse group. This includes People of Color, LGBTQ+ characters, characters of different body sizes, characters with disabilities, and characters of various backgrounds. He also places these characters in sceneries that are not common in history, especially Black and Brown bodies in mythological and religious settings, and imagery.
Growing up, he didn't see many characters like himself in terms of race, gender, sexuality, experience, or body type. In Kameron's body of work, he wants to include as much diversity as he can. He also aims to document his own personal stories, by illustrating comics going through his personal journeys as a Black and Indigenous Trans man. With his stories, he hopes to inspire and help other people who might relate and know that there is someone who has been there too.
One of his stories was featured in the "We Are Here: All-Trans Anthology", where he shared his story with other amazing Trans artists. Their book recently won the Ignatz 2019 award for Outstanding Anthology. He also has illustrated a story included in "Proud," an anthology of stories and poetry by LGBTQ+ YA authors collected by Juno Dawson. Each story in the book is accompanied by an artist identifying in the LGBTQ+ community and recently won Book of The Year in the 2020 Visionary Honours awards.

In 1993, four Black creators founded Milestone Comics: a new universe of Black and diverse superheroes, brought to life by Black creators and other artists of color. Milestone didn’t just change the way our heroes looked; it built a pipeline for talent who had been excluded and marginalized for too long, and a system in which Black creativity could thrive. Now, with the relaunch of Milestone Comics and the creation of The Milestone Initiative, we want to honor the creators of Milestone by continuing their mission. About Forever Winter
Thirty years after the end of our world, Forever Winter follows a large cast of characters as they live and die in a broken landscape where winter never ends.
Following the one clue at his disposal (the name "Elrik”), James Coleman sets out into a post-apocalyptic New England to track down his father's murderer with little more than the coat on his back and the sword by his side.
Walter and his daughter Abby set off from Boston to a transport set to leave from Bar Harbor, Maine. The pair hope that somewhere beyond the harsh, unforgiving elements and untold miles of snow-covered roads is a better world just waiting to be found.
When the world ended, The Children Of August transformed from a laughing stock doomsday cult to one of the most powerful groups in the world. Their charismatic and vicious leader Vincent Graydon will stop at nothing to hold onto his power, but when loyal soldier Katherine Kryder learns a shocking revelation, she finds herself questioning the life she's built. Can it be repaired or will she have to burn it to the ground?

In less than one hour she reveals the story behind her first book why it is more important to write a book that matters than getting published, and why being vulnerable when we write is a superpower we can embrace.

Meet Rodney Barnes and Selina Espiritu. Together they have created the original story of Quincredible.
A Conversation Interrupted
This was a great conversation that started with a speed bump. Approximately 12 minutes into our call we lost connection with Selina. Rodney was able to stay on for the whole call but we both wanted to hear what Selina had to say. Luckily, Selina was able to send in her answers to my questions. I did my best to copy them into my chat with Rodney. I can't wait to hear your thoughts.
About Quincredible - Quest to Be the Best
Quinton, a high school sophomore, is looking to live his best life by moonlighting as a superhero. The catch? His power is invulnerability…and that’s the only power he has. Naturally, he does the thing any fifteen-year-old would do and sets out to save the day, but he’s going to have to get creative if he’s planning on taking on bad guys with only 120 pounds of power behind those fists.

Author Interview with Andrew Shanahan Episode 84
About Before and After
Ben Stone is terrified. He's terrified because he weighs 601 pounds and needs his right leg amputating. He's terrified because a crane will shortly lift him from his fourth-floor flat and lower him 44 feet to an ambulance waiting below. He's terrified because he hasn't been outside in nine years and he doesn't know who will look after his beautiful dog.
He needn't worry though, because the world is about to end.
About Andrew Shanahan For twenty years Andrew Shanahan has been working as an award-winning journalist (Independent on Sunday Best Young Restaurant Critic, BBC Talent scheme) for the UK national newspapers and magazines about various subjects: gravy, dog suicide and what injury hurts the most* - an article for a children's science magazine which received more complaints than any article they'd ever run.
After working as a restaurant critic and food writer for a decade he got fat. Impressively fat. He tried to lose weight but struggled with how the majority of weight loss advice and organisations focused solely on women. So he started an organisation called MAN v FAT (www.manvfat.com) which works around the world to support men who want to win their battle against fat. To date it has helped over 4,000,000 people and the award-winning MAN v FAT Football schemes run in the UK and around the world and are supported by The FA.
Shanahan now writes fiction and comics full-time and creates stories that surprise and delight readers with humour and innovation.

A Year of Personal Bests with Tony Loyd
Welcome to Storytelling with Seth
In Tony’s own words:
"In December 2018, I told a friend, "I don't want to be alive." I didn't want to harm myself. I just didn't get the point. After years as a corporate executive and after launching a startup company, I just didn't understand the point of it all.
That confession sent me on a journey to discover what it means to live a "Year of Personal Bests."
I spent a year finding the answers to those questions. I’m ready to share the results of My Year of Personal Bests.”

Transitioning from the old year to the new takes more than one night of celebration on December 31st. Which is why it took over a month to get started on this highlights episode and set a course for 2020.
The close of 2019 saw some great guests like Bill Protzmann of Music Cares and his Silver Bullet Playlist in November. #SilverBulletPlaylist
So we start with an excerpt from that conversation. #MusicCares
Next was a pair of holiday gifts from my good friend and DC Comics News editor in chief Joshua Raynor and the captain of the DC Comics News Podcast.
Joshua made contact with writer/producer/showrunner Marc Guggenheim (Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Crisis on Infinite Earths) and bribed him into joining us for a December chat about comics, writing, television, and the secrets to his success. #Marc Guggenheim
Days later we sat down with celebrated NY Times bestselling author Kami Garcia and learn about how Wonder Woman was her gateway into comics, the events that led to her take on Raven of the Titans, and the upcoming Beast Boy graphic novel that is hitting shelves on September 8, 2020. #KamiGarcia
You can hear the full conversation with Marc and Kami on the DC Comics News Podcast available now on your favorite podcast platform.

Finally a pet project I am proud to share. I published a short story when I realized that I know longer wanted to use it in competitions or publication in a magazine. Instead, I turned to making the story part of an audio experience. The result is the sample I have included at the end of the this episode. This is a Language of Fists
The story is called 'This is a Language of Fists.' If you like what you hear you can find the rest of it soon on Amazon's audiobooks list. And in the meantime you can buy the printed version of the story by using this link: https://www.amazon.com/This-Language-Fists-Seth-Singleton-ebook/dp/B07999DQN3/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=this+is+a+language+of+fists&qid=1582651407&sr=8-1

On a Road to Self Acceptance with Tara Massan and Seth Singleton
We start out with the weather.
The Butte and Camp Fires have made the air quality in Oakland very dangerous.
I share a few personal examples including the joys and discomforts of wearing an air mask on a daily basis.
Tara is enjoying a snowstorm that she describes as normal for where she lives in Minnesota. Tara welcomes the snow because it coats the bleak winter landscape when it is dry.
When Self-Help Goes Bad
2 main sections Tara wants to address:
The Dangers of Self-Help and Nonsense we have all heard.
It creates the urge to say I want to fix this…
That’s great, if you want to live to your potential
But diving in can mean I can’t fix a problem until I fix what is wrong with me
Self Help is a business that sells information
Not a product that is tangible
To keep you hooked you have to keep fixing what is wrong with you
You don’t have to be or think a certain way to be worthy
It gets you hooked on the idea that you are not enough.
Self Help is a product of searching and discovery
Specific examples and results
4 Types of Nonsense
You learn to be successful by listening to successful people
How many people have followed this advice and failed?
Do you they have a hidden variable like luck or money?
Positive Psychology
Good to ask what is the positive here?
But to ignore it is to make yourself sick
Procrastination
Leonardo da Vinci proved procrastination can birth a new idea
It doesn’t make you a bad person
Follow your Passion
Does not mean, "Screw your job."
Or that you are Entitled to live your life only by your terms
You still have to do something about it
Developing an Awareness
Think Critically

Science Comics: The Brain: The Ultimate Thinking Machine
The Science Comics line is a wonderful marker for quality educational comics, and who better to teach about The Brain than a mad scientist? Science Comics: The Brain: The Ultimate Thinking Machine is written by Tory Woollcott and illustrated by Alex Graudins.
Fahama is helping her crazily determined younger sister sell cookies door-to-door when she stumbles into the lair of Dr. Cerebrum, an ambulatory brain in a jar. To keep him from removing her head, she asks him questions, learning about the history of brain science

Heroes in Crisis Writer Tom King Has Received Death Threats Over Issue #8
Following the controversial eighth issue of Heroes in Crisis, writer Tom King has received a number of threats on his life.
King shared a screenshot of a report sent to Twitter regarding a user threatening his life in response to the comic. And according to King, reporting death threats is starting to become a regular occurrence.
He continued by insisting fans read the issue themselves to gain full context before reacting prematurely to spoilers and "clickbait stuff."

Shazam! The Movie - https://www.dccomics.com/movies/shazam
The heart of the story is one that we can all relate to as children and adults who remember being children or might not have grown up at all. The heartbeat? It’s hard to do the right thing. Hard for superheroes and the rest of us. But, even if you don’t have a family or find yourself making a new one, when you open your heart to people who want to help you be your best you are stronger than you could ever be on your own.
Oh and, the mid-credits scene is one that fans of the classic Shazam adventures will enjoy wondering over in anticipation of the sure-to-follow sequel.
Shazam has Four Origins - https://www.cbr.com/shazam-comic-book-origin-stories/
Whiz Comics #2 (1939): "Introducing Captain Marvel"
What's immediately noticeable about the first appearance of the original Captain Marvel is how brusque and brief the story is. At fewer than 12 pages, it's so economical that it becomes unintentionally funny.
Shazam! #1 (1973)
Two decades later, DC licensed the characters (before buying them outright in 1991), and set them up on their own parallel world of Earth-S, with their own monthly comic.
The Power of Shazam! (1994)
Written, drawn and painted by Jerry Ordway, this original graphic novel superseded New Beginning. It was also followed by an ongoing series of the same name, published from 1995 to 1999.
Shazam! (2011)
Written by Geoff Johns, drawn by Gary Frank, and originally running as a backup in Justice League, this version of the story is on what the upcoming film is largely based.
We have photographic proof of a Black Hole - https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/chandra/news/black-hole-image-makes-history
"From now on we live in a world where man has walked on the Moon. It's not a miracle; we just decided to go." Jim Lovell
The Rise of Skywalker trailer - https://www.starwars.com
The trailer for Rise of the Skywalker is sharp, exciting, and filled with heroic, terrifying, and puzzling images that only heighten the anticipation and speculation surrounding its arrival.

That is why one of the most difficult challenges we can face is when we can’t do what we want.
Personal desires, the plan for a dream, project, or a community, are goals that are susceptible to hardship and misfortune.
When an obstacle prevents you from getting what you want it can leaving you feeling helpless.
The great challenge in these moments is when you can stop focusing on the thing or things that you can’t do and you find a way to work on what you still can do.
In this conversation with Tara Massan on our series about Self Acceptance, we discuss a process that can help determine the choices you still have when you can’t do the very things you want to do.

I love this article about Superman hiding his clothes.

The intent for this weekly podcast began with a goal to be consistent.
I chose to publish on Wednesdays.
This week that did not happen.

Whether it’s Armie Hammer’s chances at being Batman, Dougray Scott joining ‘Batwoman’, or the third chapter of the critically acclaimed Batman/TMNT series, they talk about it all!
And what if it is all just a test balloon to gauge fan reaction?
Ugh.

Jack's Biography
As an artist, Jack has spent his whole life dedicated to drawing, writing and getting his thoughts out to the universe. His working life as an artist has spanned a number of waves of comic book development and his paintings reach down into the present from their original roots back in the early years of 20th century American illustration and art.
His most enduring accomplishment has been the production of the original 24-issue graphic novel known as "The First Kingdom". Many have said it was the very first independently published graphic novel and it began to be re-issued as a four-volume set in the spring of 2005. Aside from his drawing and painting,
Jack has written extensively through the years on his ideas exploring the place humans have taken in the universe and the directions in which they may or may not take in the future. Today he teaches anatomy for figurative art students and continues to work on his comic book projects. Currently in the works as well are a number of publications and videos presenting his distinctive ideas of teaching figure drawing.
Recent publication included the first volume of a collection of sketches Jack has done over the past decades that illustrate for the advanced figurative art student the many different ways in which the dynamic human form can be expressed. With over one-hundred-fifty pages, the book is entitled Anatomy by Jack Katz, Vol. 1.

THE VALUE OF A GREAT CONVERSATION I know that I am having a good conversation with someone when I can share a genuine laugh. I don’t know how many times Dave Campbell and I laughed during our talk, but I do know that each time felt like an authentic connection with a committed artist.
FINDING A FAITH-BASED WRITING PARTNER Dave spoke honestly about pursuing his dream of drawing a comic that was faith-based. There were false starts and interruptions. But things changed when he met writer Jeff Williams at a men’s bible study. That was the beginning of a commitment to start and finish a graphic novel they would eventually title The Calling.
MAKING A COMMITMENT Through it all Dave and Jeff knew that everyone from that men’s group remembered their conversation. Dave knew that every night when he came home from work that his children were watching him sit down to draw. He knew that they would be watching if he stopped.
SHARING THE CALLING Dave matched that commitment with a website where he promised that every Monday he and Jeff would publish a new page from The Calling. Week after week, page after page, their comic grew into a published graphic novel. Single issues followed, and later a trailer.
YOUR NEXT MISSION, SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT But, the mission wasn’t over. By now, Dave’s daughter was a self-published author currently enrolled at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. She approached her dad about developing a comic together. She writes and he draws. The result is Groovy U.
ENJOY THIS BRIEF BIO FOR MORE ABOUT DAVE CAMPBELL Raised in Ecorse, Michigan (Detroit area), Dave Campbell started drawing at an early age. Soon after, he gained an affinity for comics and further developed his drawing skills by using them as reference material. After high school, Dave went to the University of Michigan’s School of Art & Design, where he earned a BFA degree in graphic design.
In his adult life, Dave has worked at design firms, managed in-house art departments, pursued a career in music, and even started a team uniform company which he operated for 5 years. Through all of this, Dave never lost his love for the comics, which led to co-creating The Calling with writing partner Jeff Williams.
He is currently working on issue #2 of Groovy U, a new series written by his daughter Shelby Campbell. By day Dave works as an associate director of content management for a company that provides insight and analysis for various industries. He resides with his wife and three children in California’s bay area.

Christmas is so much more than a day on the calendar.
It is a time of magic and wonder in the eyes of many children and adults.
But, Christmas is also a state of mind.
It's as much a day on the calendar as it is a day of presents and games and celebration.
Today is Christmas Eve.
It's also my father's birthday.
This morning he is waking up in a hospital bed waiting for a scheduled date when he will be wheeled into the operating room for open heart surgery.
I don't think it feels like much of a birthday and it probably doesn't feel like any Christmas that he remembers or imagined.
But, he also taught me that Christmas like everything else is about perspective.
Sometimes seeing past the challenges and complications is about changing the way you are looking.
There are other times when the real trick is learning to change where you are setting your sights when you look.
Christmas may not look like we remember and it may not feel like we expect it should, but it still has the ability to remind us that we can rise above the challenges when we remember that the holiday we celebrate is a reflection of the investment we make to experience it.

When we left off with Jack, a time traveler had arrived from the future, only to find he was not far enough in the past. The computers had taken over.
Things sounded grim.
Replication
A recurring theme in The First Kingdom is the rise and fall of civilizations and the events that eventually bring about their destruction. A desire for immortality is among the motivations that are often driving the creators and innovators.
One solution created is a memory serum that retains the entire scope of a culture's knowledge. The serum can be used to share this knowledge with the replicants called Humanoids. The Humanoids were made by a man who had a near-death experience as a child and wanted to stave off death for everyone. At one point, he takes the memory serum to prevent his own inevitable death.
The Fiction We Know is Replicated
Tarzan is not an original story. According to Jack, there are no original stories. Jack in the Jungle and Jack the Lion Tamer were both written by PT Barnum and are the basis for the Tarzan stories written by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Gladiator written by Philip Wylie which Jack believes was the inspiration for Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel's seminal Superman. Jack even shares a personal story about these two co-creators in the first part of our first podcast.
People are Steeped in Ambivalence
Jack is exacerbated by people steeped in the same ambivalence. He believes people are terrified and need to hold on to something. Jack has found the god of Einstein and it has allowed him to focus on completing the Beyond the Beyond.
When Jack met Charles Clarence C.C. Beck, who was the first artist assigned to draw the character of Captain Marvel, originally dubbed Captain Thunder by writer Bill Parker, "He knew I was supposed to do Captain Marvel Jr." "He already knew about me from Bulletman and Bulletdog." Jack remembers Beck enjoyed designing swords and hilts, and that he was a "Wonderful little gentleman."
Maybe it has to do with his belief that Captain Marvel was better than Superman. When Jack wrote his own story of a character with immense power he named it The Last Immortal. He then introduced a girl who was dying of cancer and asked, "What can superpowers do against cancer?" Read more at sethsingletonstoryteller.com

Today's Conversation...
Rough Starts can still make for a great conversation.
I don’t feel good. Stomach trouble.
Tara hurt her back when she tried a new workout routine called HIIT. I forget to ask her to explain what this is and means.
My best understanding is that it is High-Intensity Interval Training.
My stomach, her back, means we are off to a rough start. But, we both know the remedy.
Rest enough and we will regain our health. The body heals itself.
Oh, and I still have a lingering cough, so you hear me opening a cough drop and crinkling a wrapper.
Today we are focusing on change.
Tara came up with this topic and I thought it was important that we did it right, which is why I asked her to take the lead.
If I was going to contribute to this idea, I needed to get out of the way enough to see what we were talking about.
When I did, Tara's purpose and direction led to an amazing discussion. As we get older our life experience compounds and beliefs will be challenged.
It takes courage to change your beliefs We all have permission to change our minds anytime we want. We are often afraid to admit our mind has changed.
Let's start with an example like nutrition.
White Hot Truth - Danielle LaPorte http://www.daniellelaporte.com/whitehottruth/
"Many people including ourselves are afraid to change their minds and behaviors because we identify with them. This is when an inner conflict will arise."
There are other examples: Career change, quitting a habit, finding a new significant other, and something as simple as trying something new or giving up something harmful like drinking diet soda, alcohol.
One thing that can help is something Tara created called Permission Slips.
We are allowed to be a walking contradiction: What does that mean? It means to challenge your beliefs and ask questions all the time.
Where do we start?
Ask the question, Does this Serve Me?
We can also remember that it is okay to disagree.
We don't have to surrender to our beliefs.

Discovery is an original experience.
I first experienced Jack Katz through his art.
I saw a drawing that was hanging in the restroom at Sam’s Old Log Cabin in Albany, Ca.
My wife and I had stopped in for breakfast. After we ordered our meal I used the restroom and saw the drawing of a mythic figure on the wall.
The title The First Kingdom was written at the top. He stood holding a longsword in his right hand, long hair trailing behind him to the cape billowing to his knees. The name Tundran was written at his feet.
At the bottom was the inscription To the Log Cabin, the best place to eat in California. All the best, Jack Katz.
When we finished our meals I used the restroom again and took a photo of the drawing.
Back at our table, I asked one of the servers named Eric how the restaurant came by the drawing.
Eric told me Jack lived nearby and came in for breakfast. I gave him my card and asked him to let Jack know that I was interested in a conversation.
Eric later emailed me with the contact information for Jack and his associate Brian Miller. We arranged the date for breakfast and sat down in the back of the Log Cabin for a conversation about Creativity, Synchronicity, Fear, and Romantic Beauty and Human Tragedy.

We left the Peak for the comfort of our beds and a chance to sleep in for a few hours later than normal.
Then we packed our bags and drove to the port and boarded a ferry to Macau.
We checked in to our rooms at The Parisian before heading down to Santo Antonio where the street food and the shops were brimming with people spilling onto the streets.
We celebrated some of the most amazing Portuguese cuisines from the exquisite Michelin star restaurant Antonio. https://antoniomacau.com
The next morning we recovered with a buffet and boarded a ferry back to Hong Kong and a drive through Repulse Bay and the homes of the expatriates.
My wife grabbed a nap while Dean and I made a Hawaiian bread recipe that produced two loaves, six nine rolls and one round.
The next day Dean joined us for lunch after a doctor appointment and then we returned to the house for a day of relaxation.
On our last day, my wife joined me on an adventure to see Hong Kong's local comic book shops.
We ventured to Causeway Bay and then finished our evening with a viewing of A Star is Born with Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
The next morning we rode to the airport with Dean and boarded our plane home. I'm not a world traveler, yet, but my love of traveling continues to grow.
Thank you for joining me on another adventure. #HongKong #Travel Also, if you would like to support this podcast look for the support button on the podcast platform you are using to stream our content.

Somewhere in my 20's traveling became a frustrating juggling act of responsibility and money. Gone was the excitement of my childhood. But, with a little work and a lot of time spent realigning my perceptions I found my way back to the stories at the heart of every journey. That doesn't mean that it is all roses and glory, or that I don't have a few bumps along the way. It means that the challenges and the rewards are equally important to the value of the journey and the reasons that we share it. This is Part 1 of my travel log, about my journey to Hong Kong and everything I tried to remember along the way. And it all starts with a return to adventure.

I went to a poetry reading on August 30th. I went to the reading to see two good friends Jopseh and Donna and to hear from a new poet named Natasha Saje from Salt Lake City. Great to hear a different voice and hear her perspective. A dream come true and a marvelous experience It was held at Moe's in Berkeley. Moe's has a storied history among writers and poets. Natasha is from Salt Lake City, and she made a point of stating that for her this was a powerful experience. It was a lot of fun to hear her take in this place. Which, is understandable if you are just visiting or haven't lived in the Bay Area for very long. Like many bustling places, the pace of our lives makes it easy to walk past gems like Moe's and Pegasus bookstores on the way to work, the grocery store or coming home from anywhere. Moe's has a frenetic energy because of its location. It's right at the corner of Telegraph and well that depends... #Poetry #Drowning #JosephLease #MoesBooks #Berkeley #Telegraph #listen

Comicbook Superheroes John McCain, Thor: Ragnarok, John Donne, and Standing to Face a Challenge It Started on a Saturday morning. I didn't mean to watch the service for Senator John McCain, but when it came on I did not turn away. When I listened to his daughter and President George W. Bush and then President Barak Obama, I was moved in so many different ways. I was heartbroken, I wept many times, I laughed, and I was inspired. So how did that lead to watching Thor: Ragnarok? #Thor #JohnMcCain #ComicBook #Superheroes #Standing #Challenge

So, why record podcasts about your World Cup experiences, or in this case my experiences?
I believed I saw a story taking shape in the events leading up to the World Cup.
I saw a storyline of drama that ran through daily life and conversation.
I thought I saw a way to record that story by relating my personal experiences.
I had the chance to talk about Reality and Expectations, Community, and the power of the World Cup, and soccer, to reach across generational, institutional, political, and class divides.
I recorded this series because the narrative of our lives exists in the big and the small details that draw the focus of our attention and our perception.
Look for an audiobook about this World Cup series on Amazon soon.

I decided to record a podcast and write this post about editing for a few reasons.
The first is that I am working on a draft of a novel.
The next is that I am also editing my first audiobook collection.
I am also the editor for the writing team on an upcoming digital strategy card game called Planet Rise - https://www.playplanetrise.com.
It's the first game of its kind to offer a complete story. We are currently editing one of our drafts in preparation for the upcoming AfroComiCon in October. I have a story on Amazon called This is a Language of Fists. It started about 18 years ago with a scene. A cold wind moving through a boxing arena in a small setting, and the fighters, and the people there to watch them. Later I added a scene about running on a beach.

Curses have been in the headlines of the 2018 Russia World Cup stories this year. Germany suffered the World Cup Champions Curse when it was eliminated by Mexico. England broke it's penalty kicks curse in an elimination game to advance to the quarterfinals. Curses are not just limited to soccer. Major League Baseball teams like the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs have been the victims of curses that have stretched over decades. Kevin Durant was said to be under the curse of rapper Lil B while playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder. When Durant and the Thunder blew a 3-1 lead in the 2016 National Basketball Association Western Conference Finals, social media pointed to the curse.

The only way to catch up with the always busy Jabari Alii is to join him for a walk around Lake Merritt. The founder of Blue Alchemy Studio and creator of the digital strategy-card game Planet Rise tells me his thoughts on questions raised at the "Black Representation in Gaming" panel at GDC 2018 like: Why is there a lack of diversity for the lead role in games and movies? Describe your ideal character of color? We then discuss how the answers inform the creation of the heroine Nia Kasai and the importance of a diverse range of characters when creating a strong narrative.

Expectation and Reality share a fabled history. Like two sides of a coin, each has landed on success and failure. These are a few moments when expectation met reality during: 1. When I overslept or slept in and spent the morning trying to catch up on the game scores and highlights, all while my Frenchie snored in my ear and the microphone. 2. The diverging paths of Ronaldo and Messi. 3. Iran and Serbia have gone from underrated to recognition. 4. Neymar and Brazil found relief and redemption. There's more... World Cup Russia 2018 was in full swing starting at 3 a.m. Pacific Time here in California. From France's 2-1 victory over Australia to Messi's missed penalty kick that resulted in a 1-1 tie with Iceland, the stories of heartache and heroism changed with each pass, shot, and goal. Sometime around the first half of Croatia vs. Nigeria, the impact of Peru's 1-0 loss to Denmark centered around a penalty kick missed by Christian Cueva. Nigeria's Super Eagles fought to overcome an early 1-0 deficit to Croatia.

Finding Your Character’s Motivation Originally published at https://sethsingletonstoryteller.com/2018/04/14/do-superheroes-ever-have-this-problem-finding-your-characters-motivation/ By Seth Singleton
Getting up in the morning is hard enough without trying to save the world.
Getting up just to save the world does not sound like a good enough reason.
How do superheroes do it? Do they struggle?
Does Superman? Does Spider-Man?
What reasons do your characters have for getting out of bed?
Let's bring it closer to home.
Why do most of us get up?
Why do you get up?
