Announcement: I will take a break from the podcast, so there will not be any more episodes for an undefined period. I will publish a few more articles this month on the blog but will keep it quieter after that. Joney Talks! is not going anywhere (like Paris I do not want to keep it one hundred 😉), I simply want to rethink how I can serve you better to help you on your financial journey: Should I start a Youtube channel? Have video interviews? Launch a financial coaching practice? Focus on Luxembourg and Belgium only,...I'll brainstorm ideas for myself but feedback and suggestions are welcome 😀.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Paris from The Millenial to Millionaire Podcast.

Paris is a 26-year-old millennial on an ambitious mission to become a millionaire before age 30! Let me reassure you he did not start yesterday but 5 years ago.

We will discuss his personal finance adventure so far, how and why he wants to become a millionaire and then we will move on to the financial issues millennials face today and how they can be overcome.

This episode is for you if you want to achieve your big financial goals and live the lifestyle you want.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Anna, who is an Investor Relations Specialist at Robocash, a P2P lending investing platform.

Online peer-to-peer lending platforms are gaining popularity as they are giving investors an alternative form of investing their money. But they also get a bad reputation due to scams, and there is the ethical dilemma one can face when investing in them. So what is peer-to-peer lending all about? And is it safe at all to invest in those platforms?

Anna will explain the concepts in a very digestible way and we will discuss the pros and cons of peer-to-peer lending, what you should look out for and we will also tackle the delicate question about the ethics behind it.

This episode is for you if you are new to investing in peer-to-peer lending platforms, if you have heard of them and want to know more, or simply because you are not yet sure if it is for you or not.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Yoran co-founder of Curvo.eu a Belgian investing platform.

While there is a lot of information out there on investing in general, ETFs, brokers, and individual stocks, it still takes a lot of effort and commitment to get started. And then if you live in an amazingly complex and surrealistic country like Belgium things are even more tricky 😅!

These are some of the issues we will talk about with Yoran. He actually struggled a lot to compile the information and to find his way when he first wanted to create a better future for himself by investing in the stock markets. We will go through both his personal journey and the Curvo journey so far.

This episode is for you if you are convinced investing in the stock markets is the way to go for making the most out of your savings, but you are still stuck due to the overwhelm of information and possibilities. The episode will be particularly well-suited for millennials and Belgians as we will also talk about Branch 21, 23 and how they compare to investing in a simple ETF for example.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my good friends Dragon Gal and Dragon Guy from the Dragons on FIRE.

We recorded an episode 2 years ago (time flies!) as Dragon Guy was about to retire early from his career while Dragon Gal already was retired.

I thought it would be interesting to follow-up with them on how they experienced their early retirement especially with the pandemic that hit just a couple of months into this early retirement! We will also talk briefly about the Minimalism challenge that Dragon gal is going through at the moment and she has some great tips to reduce your clutter as well.

This episode is for you if you want to hear about a real-life story of how to handle a crisis during early retirement but as well how to handle it in general.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Hrish, Co-founder and CEO of SuperWorld.

With the recent popularity of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT), I was looking for someone very knowledgeable to guide us through this new "phenomenon".

I was very fortunate to be put in contact with Hrish as he will explain what NFTs are, what the potential use cases are, and how for example NFTs play a role in SuperWorld. Superworld is a virtual real estate platform where you can buy any piece of land with the help of NFTs. (Spoiler alert: It can get tricky at first to grasp 😅!)

This episode is for you if like me you want to know more about NFTs: Is it all just hype, a fad, or the next big thing? Let's find out!

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Siyana from Before & After.

As a child, Siyana already enjoyed decluttering her books and toys. This passion has stayed with her up to this day and this eventually lead her to launch her professional organizing business here in Luxembourg.

We will discuss how she helps her clients organize their belongings, what the benefits of organizing your stuff can mean to you, and of we will of course make the parallel with managing our finances.

This episode is for you if in a way or another you feel overwhelmed in life and might need a little I would say "unconventional" but practical boost.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Mr. Wealthster from The Wealthster.

He is a London-based personal finance blogger and started his journey to Financial Independence 3 years ago.

His journey to FI started by being fed up with his job, but was that reason enough to wish to retire, or did he simply need a new job? We will talk about how he changed his mindset about his career, his finances and we will go into the detail of his newfound plan to reach financial independence (despite living in a high cost of living city).

This episode is for you if you are at a crossroads in your career and this will be particularly interesting if you live in an expensive city and want to reach FI.

I am a regular listener to his podcast and if you live in Europe, I highly recommend it to you as well. He was recently featured in a documentary on Financial Independence on Arte. In this documentary, he opens the doors to his house and to his journey to financial independence.

We will reflect back on the documentary and Mathias will share his views and his way to reach financial independence in Europe. We will go into detail on his daily expenses (even his rent and mobility budget) and of course his investment strategy 😀! (Spoiler alert: it is not the "usual" buy ETFs and chill method)

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Liz from Kitchen Table Finances.

I have known Liz for a while and met her 2 years ago at Fincon in Washington D.C. She is passionate about personal finance and wants to make it something that you could discuss simply at the kitchen table. Next to that, ever since she was young she has always had the entrepreneurial fiber and so side hustling became a natural part of her life.

While there is no real need for it, she really enjoys it and, this is the key to the interview, she has some unique views about it which she will share with us.

This episode is for you if you are interested in making extra money but are overwhelmed by the number of possibilities. I hope that Liz's unique approach will help you get started.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Mike Cavaggioni from Average Joe Finances.

Although he leads a busy life, he is a pro side hustler! He runs a podcast, is a finance coach, holds a real estate license, and is a father of 2 next to his career in the Navy.

After discussing his background and setting the scene, we will tackle the topic of side hustling: Why he started these side activities, what some of the non-monetary benefits are, how Mike manages himself around time (yes, I did not write "manages his time" on purpose 😉) and finally we will talk about skills and opportunities side hustles can bring along with them.

This episode is for you if you are currently looking at making side income through a side hustle or for those who are currently side hustling, and want to get more out of it!

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Chris Mamula from Can I Retire Yet?.

Chris is a physical therapist who retired at the young age of 41 (!). Yes, that is indeed about 25 years before the traditional age for retirement but contrary to popular belief, this does not mean he lived a life of deprivation in order to save and invest aggressively.

Chris will share his unconventional journey to this early retirement, the excellent financial decisions he made along the way but as well, the serious mistakes (so you can avoid them). This conversation is to meant to show you one way of achieving financial independence, it may not be your ideal path but it is important to show that it is possible 😀!

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Jesse from The Best interest.

When I heard him speak on Michelle is Money Hungry's Podcast I thought, I want this guy here too. Jesse has a talent for explaining complex matters in simple terms especially when it comes to investing as you will hear.

We will talk about how to overcome the mental barriers to start investing in the stock market: How to start from what you know and move to better investing decisions, why you should invest in the first place and we will also discuss the pretty cool concept of loss aversion (which you are actually already familiar with).

This episode is for you if you know investing is the right move for your finances but there is still something holding you back. That is absolutely normal but I hope this conversation can help you overcome that blocking point and help you get started with investing 🙌.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Emanuel who founded a Crypto Facebook group back in March (2021)

We have all seen the recent headlines and impressive run-up of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies since the end of last year. It certainly got people interested again since the highs of December 2017, and I was looking for someone to shed some light on the recent events.

The crypto space is not only about the Bitcoin price and the headlines, as you will hear many things are also happening behind the scenes that will have an impact on our finances in the coming years. So even if you do not plan to invest, it is definitely a space you want to understand!

This episode is for you if you want to learn more about crypto (i.e. go beyond the mass media headlines), want to know what is going on and where the crypto space is headed.

This is exactly what we will tackle today: How you can position yourself for that next career move in ways you may not have heard of before (Spoiler alert: It is not about preparing a salary review meeting 2 weeks before said meeting). In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Steve from The Frugal Expat.

Steve is a personal finance blogger. As the name of his blog implies we will talk about frugality: What that means, the difference between frugality and being cheap, the benefits of frugality, and how you can embrace a frugal lifestyle.

This is a lifestyle I have adopted myself for a long time now (but it was not always the case 😅) and I think more of us should too. So yes, I am very excited to share this conversation with you!

This episode is for you if are curious about frugality, or perhaps you already started to embrace this lifestyle but most importantly if you want to live a life more true to yourself (and not the life others want from you).

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Laura Oldanie from Rich and Resilient Living.

Laura is a wealth coach, but not your ordinary one,...she is a socially conscious wealth coach. She helps her clients with investment decisions that have positive impacts on their financial bottom line but as well that offer positive impacts (or returns) on people and our planet.

Laura will explain these concepts in detail and we will explore how we can impact the people in our communities, our planet, and our profits by making relatively small switches in our financial habits.

This holistic way of looking at investing was a bit new to me but as you will listen to our conversation it will all make sense 😀!

This episode is for you if you want to manage your finances and reach financial independence with a more conscious and sustainable approach.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Valerie from the Wellness and Wanderlust podcast.

Money is an essential pillar in your life and the main focus of this blog and podcast. Of course, as I always like to point out on social media, "Health Before Wealth", it is important to be in a good place physically, mentally, and even spiritually if that applies to you as well. Otherwise without that solid foundation first, you can earn as much as you want you will never reach a place of happiness or of well-being.

And this well-being and mental health is something we will talk about with Valerie today. She will share great tips on how to incorporate wellness into your busy life, why it is important in these uncertain times and as well how that ties in with your finances (We are on The Joney Talks podcast after all! 😉)

Quick announcement: Today is this (crazy) year’s last podcast episode, the show will be back on in January. Enjoy this episode (Erika brought fantastic insights!) and feel free to stay in touch through social media or email jon@joneytalks.com 😀.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Erika Kullberg who runs her own Youtube channel, Erika Kullberg.

Erika has worked for a number of years as a corporate attorney working for a large law firm. This is when she decided to leave her corporate job to start her own legal start-up and as well launch her (successful!) personal finance Youtube channel.

We will discuss why she did not pursue this "dream career" you only see in movies and we will go quite into details on how you can start a Youtube channel and grow it as she did!

This is a collaboration episode where we cross-interview each other. Ishu is a passionate entrepreneur and he recently started a podcast about exploring the unexplored depths of the business world.

We share the same passion for engaging our audiences (you, amigos) and sharing knowledge through podcasting. We will discuss our journeys so far since we are still learning about this medium as we go along, we will tackle the benefits of starting a podcast vs running a blog (or can we do both?) and provide some tips for anyone looking at starting one.

This episode is for you if you are curious about starting a podcast:  The practicalities, how to get started, what to keep in mind, and as well the benefits of podcasting.

Enjoy!

While he runs his successful podcast with his friend Marcus, he also works as an Internal Communications Manager at Google for his day job. He has been working for about 12 years in recruitment and staffing in various companies and I thought it would be great to invite him on the show to discuss how one can stand out in a tough job market, especially now.

We will discuss the current job market situation and Rich will provide great insights and tips for optimizing your LinkedIn profile so you can stand out as a job seeker even during these difficult times.

This episode is for you if you are currently looking at transitioning into a new role but as well if you are employed and looking at networking and optimizing your LinkedIn profile so you can get noticed for future opportunities.

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Derek from Money Health Solutions.

He is a financial therapist helping his clients to identify their financial beliefs (also called "money scripts") and to improve their relationship with money. You might probably wonder what a financial therapist is and what those money scripts are about.

If you are a regular listener to the show, you will remember that getting the right money mindset is an essential first step to get your finances in order. Something that can for example stand in the way of getting the right mindset could be the negative financial beliefs you have developed throughout childhood: The stock markets are dangerous, more money equals happiness so I should work hard, talking about money is taboo, rich people are bad, money is the root of all evil,...

Derek will explain what his profession consists of and then we will discuss more in detail how we can identify our own money behaviors (negative or positive)  and how we can start rewriting our scripts and improving our relationship with money.

This episode is absolutely solid! Derek comes with a wide breadth of knowledge, numerous examples, and he really demonstrates clearly how money and emotions are intertwined and how this affects our behaviors! It really makes me happy to be able to deliver this interview.

This episode is for you if managing money makes you uncomfortable or if you nurture negative feelings towards your finances and are ready to change those feelings to improve your relationship with money.

Enjoy!

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Daniel from NolCo Inc.(the No Loss Company).

Daniel has a strong passion for personal finance: how to get a better personal economy and better spending habits. He is absolutely not afraid to go against the grain, which is something that will definitely stand out in our conversation.

We will discuss how Daniel approaches his finances in Norway, one of the richest countries in the world but also a country where the peer pressure is strong. He will share his big passion for saving money and investing in dividend stocks and how that can be in his own words "so much fun"!

The interview is light and accessible and despite his young age, Daniel comes on the show with great wisdom for all of us!

This episode is for you if you are looking at growing your wealth over time beyond the simple savings account and certainly if you feel that sometimes buy things because everyone else around you does so,...

In today’s episode, we will speak to my friend Dimitry Neyshtadt from 90 Days Money Pro.

We will talk about one of the major mind shift Dimitry has observed with his clients thanks to his program and we will end up with his compelling story on why he became a financial consultant. The interview is great fun and Dimitry shares some great examples to help us digest every key aspect of managing our money.

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Tanel Orro, he is the CEO of Reinvest24.

Reinvest24 is an Estonian Real estate crowdfunding platform that has been on the market for a bit over 2 years.

P2P lending platforms and real estate crowdfunding platforms have grown popular in recent years, especially here in Europe. These offer easy ways to invest your hard-earned cash and get decent returns and even pretty high ones. What's not to like about them?

Well, it is not all that rosy as high in demand markets also attract fraudulent players. This is what we will discuss today on the show with Tanel and as a professional, he will guide us through what to look for before investing your money so you are sure you are not being scammed.

This episode is for you if you want to take a closer look at P2P lending or Real Estate crowdfunding platform and want to know how to perform your due diligence before taking the plunge.

With the recent murder of George Floyd and the current protests happening in the US, I wanted to share some thoughts around racial inequality on the Podcast as well. As I was reaching out to my network I got connected with Jason Hines who is coming on the show today. Jason is no expert on these thematics but he is never the less deeply motivated to share his thoughts as well and to raise awareness on the issue.

We will look beyond the current events and give answers (or at least parts of it) to the questions:

  • How did we get here?

  • Where does this systemic racism come from?

Jason will take us on a short American history class dating back from slavery (1800s) up to today and how racism has remained ingrained in the US society despite the Civil Rights act achieved by Martin Luther King. We will also have a look at how Financial literacy can play a big role in helping underserved communities and how we can all contribute to racial equality.

This episode is for you if you want to take a deeper look at the recent "racist incidents" and learn more about how to contribute to a better understanding between communities. And it is an opportunity for me to raise awareness on the topic as well.

It is my sincere hope that this episode will help spread awareness and build towards a better future for the next generations.

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Marc Andre from VitalDollar.com.

Marc started a website design blog in 2007 as a side hustle and left a job he hated in 2008. Pretty fast, right? He has since been running several successful blogs over the years and has sold all of them for over 1,3 million dollars (full story here). He now mainly runs the Vital Dollar, his blog on managing money, saving money, and money-making side activities.

Marc will share his story on how he managed to leave his job so fast and how he has been able to launch several other blogs since then (yes, I ask him about his secret recipes for success! 😉). We will also discuss what key aspects to look after if you are thinking of launching your own successful side hustle whether in the form of content creating or in the form "brick and mortar" type of activity.

We are all currently going through strange times and hearing about successful business stories might not be what you want to hear about these days, this is totally understandable. If that is you, then skip this episode and come back to it later. I certainly do not want to be insensitive to the situation but I also think that some of you may want to start dabbling into money-making side activities whether today or at a later stage.

This episode is for you if you are looking at starting a successful side business whether in the form of content creation or a physical brick and mortar type of activity.

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Doug Nordman (AKA "Nords") and his daughter Carol Pittner.

Both of them have had military careers as navy officers (Carol is a reservist at the moment) and Doug has been retired since 2002 at age 41! Carol is currently in her late 20s and already rapidly approaching financial independence as well.

We will discuss what it feels like to be retired at a young age, how Doug worked his way towards Financial Independence before the FIRE movement was a thing. We will exchange both interesting and fun anecdotes with Carol on how it was to grow up in a money-savvy environment. Topics will include frugality, Financial Independence, financial literacy throughout childhood, investing in the stocks markets through various recessions,...so all in all a lot of valuable information brought to you in an easy to understand conversation. Even though I do not have kids myself I really like the topic of teaching kids about money, because childhood to me is where your core beliefs and thoughts about money (and other topics) will be shaped. So it all starts from there.

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend The Poor Swiss.

The Poor Swiss is a Swiss (duh!) blogger writing about his pursuit of Financial Independence. One of the ways he tries to achieve this is through investing in the stock markets and on his blog you can find the result of his extensive research on the matter. (Watch out though, you will easily fall down the rabbit hole :)).

When one looks for information in English on investing in the stock markets, one often stumbles upon articles/podcasts of our US friends telling all about investing in low-cost index funds like a Vanguard S&P500 fund. We will discuss if this approach makes sense for us here in Europe, if we simply should switch the S&P500 fund with a European one, or if we should disregard this investing strategy altogether. We also discuss how and where to look for ETF's and share reviews on European online brokers (DeGiro and Interactive brokers).

Friends, I hope you are all keeping well in these strange coronavirus times.  This was not planned but I thought it would be good to exchange ideas on how to get through this crisis and potential recession.

The Covid 19 or Coronavirus has been spreading rapidly at a fast pace across every country in the world. This has had a tremendous impact so far for the infected people, the way we live our daily lives, the global economy, and our finances.

Here are the topics I am discussing today :

  • The most important: Your health.
  • Practicing gratitude every day.
  • Emergency funds, the crucial piece of your personal finances in a crisis.
  • We'll recap some useful financial definitions: Recessions, bear markets and Black Swan events.
  • Stock Markets: What should you do? Is it the right time to get started? Which stocks should I buy?
  • Helping each other: Every little gesture can go a long way so let's behave and care for our neighbors (let's not behave like the douche that hoards 400 rolls of toilet paper at the supermarket,...)

Amigos, I hope you will all stay safe and healthy during this pending recession. But rest assured this pandemic like the previous ones will pass 👊.

Enjoy!

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Kofi from 400 Lb Elephant.

Kofi has been debt-free for 3 years now and has also become a financial coach next to his full-time job (which is awesome by the way!). His goal is to help people get out of debt and empower them with the right financial education and coaching.

We will dive deep into the topic of living a valuist lifestyle: What that means and why Kofi chose this lifestyle. Secondly, we will debunk the idea that because one has a high earning profession, one should automatically know about all things money. And last we will discuss why status will kill the American Dream, or in more general terms how the pursuit of status will impair your finances.

This episode is for you if you are looking at understanding what drives us to pursue status (yes this applies to me as well) and to compare ourselves to our peers, and as well to find ways to stop doing that.

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Mike from LendEDU.

LendEDU launched in August of 2014 and is an online marketplace for a variety of financial products including mortgages, student loans, insurances and so on. Although most of their website visitors are looking for information on student loans, their blog articles are pretty informative as well! Make sure you check them out!

Mike is coming on the show today to discuss market trends on student loans, mortgages and the booming Pet insurance industry (yes, I was surprised as well). We will also discuss refinancing your student loan (including a few helpful repayment strategies) and mortgage and we will also touch upon Mike's career choice of working for a startup instead of a larger corporation.

This episode is for you if you are looking at refinancing your student loan or mortgage and if you are curious about what it looks like to work for a startup.

We will discuss the concept of Financial Stability. What Financial Stability means, why it is important for you and your family, why people struggle with it and Nadia will provide an actionable 7-step plan to achieve that Financial Stability.

This episode is for you if you are getting started with your finances and want some guidance on improving your financial situation or find your way to work towards larger financial goals.

You may also realize early on in the episode that you are already financially stable, that is, of course, awesome but the practical way in which Nadia guides us may still help a friend of yours so make sure you share the episode them!

n today’s episode, we will speak to my buddy Kade from the rock band Throw The Fight.

The fun thing with Kade is that I met him pretty much randomly on a holiday trip in Thailand 6 years ago and had no clue he was playing in a band. Kind of odd, since my main hobby next to this blog/podcast, is basically playing the guitar. We kept in touch through Facebook and as time went by I saw he was posting more and more about his band the concerts they were doing, the album Transmissions on Spotify that got released in 2016 and even videoclips,... and I thought to myself, wow the guy must have left his job and gone for it!

Kade also started his solo project Kade Katz end of last year and I thought it would be great to bring you his story on the Podcast!

We will discuss and present both Throw The Fight and the Kade Katz project. We will then dive deep into how he manages his time between the day job, the band and his solo project and Kade will also take us "backstage" to reveal what happens behind the curtain at Throw The Fight: Their journey, their take on the "Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll" lifestyle and how to grow today as an independent artist.

This episode is for you if, first and foremost, you are a fan of Kade's music (solo project or Throw The Fight), but it is as well for you if you are serious about growing your side activity as a business.

Adine is from The Netherlands and we met last September at Fincon. Although we met at a Money/Finance conference, one of her favourite topics is Money Mindset. A topic I really enjoy because, in my opinion, that is where it is all starts.

And if you think about it,  it is true. You can write or read about the best financial tips, the next best stock with the highest potential growth, the best area to own a rental property and so on. If you do not have the correct Money Mindset in the first place, you will always be struggling in a way or another.

And today, Adine will give some practical tips on how to transform your Money Mindset, she will also share her financial journey, including some of the errors she made in the past (so you can avoid making them as well) and she will also illustrate how she developed her mindset through these struggles.

This episode is for you if you are currently struggling with your finances, have developed negative emotions towards money over the years and want to see a change. The good news is that it is possible to change your attitude towards your finances!

Enjoy!

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Naza from Copenhagen (Denmark).

I met Naza through common friends when visiting them in Copenhagen on several occasions. We have been keeping in touch through Facebook over the years, she is a positive person and when I met her she seemed very happy and dedicated about her career. Just in November of last year, she posted on her Facebook profile that she would leave her corporate job and her happy life in the bustling Scandinavian capital to move to Asia to pursue her dreams of becoming a licensed yoga teacher, to teach English to underprivileged Thai children and open her yoga school in Bali! That was quite a surprise to me but I was very happy for her at the same time.

I, of course, wanted to know more about this drastic lifestyle change: The reasons, the wake-up call, the preparation, the mindset shift, the finances, etc. Naza will share her story and lessons with us on the show and even if you are not planning to change your life in such an extreme way, there are some great takeaways from the conversation for all of us!

This episode is for you if you currently feel stuck in your career, in a routine. You have goals and dreams but they seem far out of reach, you do not feel confident about achieving them and do not know where to start. Naza's story will definitely inspire you to take action.

Enjoy!

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Joyce from Financial Impulse.

I met Joyce through the Fincon community and met her as well last September at the Fincon conference. She writes about a wide array of topics on her blog Financial Impulse: Picking good companies to invest in, career advice, Debt, Emergency funds, cheap date ideas, etc. She has also developed two interesting series of articles: "Is it worth it?" and "From Freelance to Full-Time" which I enjoyed reading myself.

She is a full-time digital marketer who specializes in SEO (Search Engine Optimization). In layman terms: The process behind increasing the quality and the quantity of traffic to a website (her blog and this one for example) and getting it highly ranked in Google.

We will discuss how she combines her professional career and passion project (the blog): Digital marketing (with a focus on SEO) and Personal Finance. In the first part of the episode, she will provide some practical SEO tips which will be helpful for any type of content creators (Bloggers, Podcaster and Youtubers, people like me that suck at SEO 😅, etc.)  and in the second part we will dive deeper into the Personal Finance part.

This episode is for you if you want to start a blog (or podcast/Youtube channel) and wonder about how to be easily searchable in Google and as well if you are looking at broadening your perspectives on Personal Finance.

Enjoy!

In today's episode, we will speak to Caroline from Costa Rica FIRE.

We have already had a few guests talking about how they intend to reach FIRE (Financial Independent Retire Early), and this mostly happened through living intentionally and investing in the stock markets via index funds (whether directly or through tax-advantaged retirement accounts). This time, however, Caroline will tell us how she reached FIRE under "exceptional circumstances": She stumbled upon the FIRE movement in her 40s, she and her husband Scott have 2 daughters, their strategy was to focus on Real Estate and they did all of this while living in New York, a high cost of living area!

We will discuss Caroline's journey and she will share how she and her husband managed to change their lifestyle completely and reached FIRE. And we will also discuss how they managed to buy property after property both in the US and abroad (Costa Rica!).

This episode is for you if you have been pondering about reaching FIRE but think you're too late or that it is not possible since you live in a high cost of living area. It is also for you if you are looking at investing in real estate and purchasing multiple rental properties locally and abroad.

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Joseph from the Youtube channel Let's Talk Money.

I am quite excited about this episode as I am a subscriber to Joseph's channel myself and watch it on a regular basis. Joseph loves talking all things money: From the stock market for beginners to how to buy stocks and from passive income and side hustle ideas to the best investments in dividend stocks. My primary interest in watching Joseph's videos is to learn more about dividend-paying stocks as I want to grow this part of my investment portfolio.

The episode will be a little more technical than usual as we will indeed discuss a few financial ratios (P/E, operating margin,..) but still, Joseph will make it easy to distil the information and guide us through the wonderful world (--> nerd! 😉) of stock pickings and dividend stocks!

This episode is for you if you are interested in learning more about stock pickings or if like me,  you want to grasp the essentials behind dividend-paying stocks better!

Enjoy!

In today's episode, we will speak to a repeat guest: Leanna Haakons from Young, Fun and Financially Free.

his time we will talk about several topics: How Millenials approach personal finance, the struggle for personal finance content creators on social media, the importance of investing in equities (or stocks) especially at a young age, we will then move on to a short discussion on the streaming wars and finally, we will discuss some interesting passage of her book Young, Fun and Financially Free.

It's always a pleasure to have her on the show to discuss industry and market trends. All in all, it is a great and easy conversation to listen to and Leanna is great at explaining financial concepts in a simple manner. She really embodies the Young, Fun and Financially Free spirit!

This episode is for you if you are from the "Millennial generation" and want to get started with your finances and it is as well for you if you are interested in entering the stock markets but have not taken that first step just yet. You will enjoy it, believe me!

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Becky from Twentyfree.co.

We met at Fincon in Washington D.C. earlier this year and it was definitely a fun encounter! Becky is not only young, energetic and driven as you will discover, but she also has great lessons in store for any one of us in our early 20s, in our mid- to late 30s and even for the "wiser" crowds 😁! Since I already have interviewed Araminta about how to manage money in your 20s, I also wanted to hear Becky's view. She started her career with a high focus on reaching FIRE by 35 but after 5 years, she has re-defined her goals and is now looking into semi-retirement instead.

In summary, we will discuss how to land promotions at your job every single year, how Becky intends to apply lifestyle design concepts to switch from her initial FIRE goal to semi-retired/slow FI lifestyle and we also share thoughts on her inspiring article There is no better time than now.

This episode is for you if you are looking at increasing your salary at your current workplace but do not know how and where to start. It is also for those of you eager to hear more about lifestyle design, what it is all about and how Becky applies the concepts to her own life. Although we are talking with Becky who is in her twenties, this episode is absolutely for many of us older folks as well! You will enjoy it, trust me!

Enjoy!

Hello amigos!

Today we speak to my friend Sandy whom I met at Fincon.

Her book "The Money Master: Inside Secrets on How to Make Your Money Grow and Stay Safe" is currently being printed and it will be released in early 2020. We will discuss a few themes covered in the book with special attention to investing in the stock markets. We dispel some of the common myths (should you follow the financial news every day? Should you buy in the latest hot stock picks?...), Sandy will explain some fundamental concepts, help you not overpay on fees,..in short, she will guide you to become more comfortable with the idea of getting started in the stock markets. It is true, it might look scary and complicated from the outside but as you will see, it is not.

We also discuss the more controversial subject of investing in cannabis stocks and touch upon Sandy's Real Estate investing experience and last but not least, we also go through Sandy s personal Finance journey and the money lessons she learned growing up.

This episode is for you if you are interested in getting into the stock markets but have not taken the plunge just yet because of what you have heard around you or seen in the media (the common myths).

Please note that whatever we discuss, it is not financial advice, even though we might both seem excited about talking investments and stock markets.

Enjoy!

In today's episode, we will speak to my friend Jacob from I Heart Budgets.

We met at Fincon 19 and he told me he was currently on a "mini-retirement" travelling in an RV (a large motorhome/camper van) with his wife and three kids through the US. He started this crazy plan in August of 2018 and while the plan was to travel 1 year they have extended their plans.

Living in such a limited space brings challenges but as well incredible experiences and opportunities. We will discuss all of these with Jacob and we will also discuss what triggered him and his family to do this. Oddly enough, a couple of months before deciding to go live in an RV, the Wades were looking into buying a new larger home! The discussion with also be seasoned with a pinch of minimalism here and there.

Since Jacob loves budgets (--> nerd), we also discuss why setting up a budget or better "a plan" for your finances is the essence of starting to live a better life.

This episode is for you if you are keen on hearing about why someone with a well-paid job is "suddenly" making a drastic lifestyle change by moving to a more nomadic and minimalistic lifestyle. And more importantly how that can be achieved through budgeting and planning. This episode is also for you if you are new to budgeting and still wonder why it can be a fantastic starting point to achieve your goals.

Enjoy!

In today´s episode, I am speaking with my friends Dragon Gal and Dragon Guy from The Dragons on FIRE. They recently reached FIRE and have left their jobs in their early 40s, 25 years ahead of schedule!

When it comes to money, The Dragons have been doing the right things such as not spending more than what they earn, investing a portion of their income monthly in the stock markets (even throughout the 2008 market crash), paid off their house,... they just did not have a specific money goal or a specific savings amount to reach. It is only when they started to think about leaving their jobs that they dived into the FIRE blogs. And interestingly enough, once they found out about the financial model and calculated their "FI number", they discovered that they were already FI (or "unknown FI")!

Could you be unknown FI as well?
