Director, productor, fotógrafo y promotor de cine documental, Juan Nepomuceno Carlos Pérez Rulfo Aparicio, Juan Carlos Rulfo, forma parte del grupo de cineastas que ha propuesto nuevas formas de narrativa documental en México. Ha sido ganador de siete premios Ariel de la Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas; del Gran Premio del Jurado al Mejor Documental Internacional en Sundance, por En el hoyo; del premio Humanitas –considerado como la versión para el cine del Pulitzer de periodismo– junto con el director Carlos Hagerman, por Los que se quedan, y del Haskell Wexler Award for Best Cinematography por la misma película, así como de otros importantes reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales.
Juan Carlos ha sido maestro de generaciones del Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica, el Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey y profesor visitante de la Universidad de Stanford. Es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte, y ha sido merecedor de las becas Guggenheim y Rockefeller-MacArthur.

His creations have been co-produced, presented and received with enormous success in the most important festivals of the five continents. The company Teatro de Ciertos Habitantes and its director, Claudio Valdés Kuri, have achieved multiple awards. The projects are created through long periods of development through a process of risk taking and questioning. Each work explores new language as a result of the constant search for innovation of form and content. The stage work falls to the multidisciplinary artist -actor/musician/dancer- using his/her capacities to their maximum. In addition, the company takes on educational, social and environmental projects, radio and television productions as well as music recordings.
