With writers and actors on strike, box office numbers struggling to rebound after the pandemic, and missteps with streaming costing studios billions, what could Hollywood possibly do to save the day?
Maybe have a firesale and make some money, or at least that’s what Bob Iger is looking to do.
But before we see our heroes on the picket lines or the unemployment lines we first saw them on the silver screen in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and we’ve got our thoughts on that and more coming up in this episode of Insights Into Entertainment.
After a long hiatus we’re back with a revamped studio and some interesting experiences to share. The first was from our trip to Niagara falls. Then a new convention came to town. And then we’ll wrap up with thoughts on a few of our favorite shows coming to an end.
After a long hiatus we’re back with a couple events we attended and a brief Disney discussion. First we’ll talk about our experience at the Disney 100 Exhibition at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Then we’ll discuss our time and our treasures from this year’s Zolocon. Finally we’ll talk about some of the impact of Bob Iger’s to Disney.
Chapek is out, Iger is in at Disney again. What impact will that have on the company, the parks and the material coming out of the media giant?
After 11 seasons the Walking Dead comes to an end, kind of. We'll take a look at the impact the show has had over the last decade and where the zombies are going next.
Finally we'll recap some of the seasonal events and pop culture shows we've been able to start enjoying again and hope to bring much more in the new year.
As previously promised on the podcast, this week we bring you our review of the current state of Disney parks in Florida. Having spent a week down in somewhat sunny, often rainy and oppressively hot Florida we’ve had a chance to see if Disney has been able to bring the magic back. We’ll take a look at the resort, the amenities offered and the service. Then we’ll take a look at the technology Disney is trying to throw at it’s guests to justify some of the drawbacks and costs. Finally we’ll talk about our experience at three of the four parks and where they stand compared to previous visits.
Today we’re continuing our discussion from our previous episode about the state of Star Wars 10 years into Disney’s stewardship of the franchise

We’ll give our thoughts and opinions on the recently completed Obi-Wan Series. Then we’ll take a look at what the current forecasted future of the franchise looks like and where we think it’s going.

When we started this podcast it was originally meant to be a deep dive into selected entertainment news and pop culture information that being die hard fans of a number of key areas of these topics we thought we could lend some unique perspective on.
Over the course over 130 episodes we drifted away from that more to a reporting on current news and events with a little commentary mixed in. We’re hoping to get back to our original purpose starting with this episode. We’ll highlight a couple of significant events in the entertainment and pop culture worlds more from a deep dive and less from a reporting perspective

After a long holiday we're back with another great podcast. This week in our Disney Detective we give our thoughts on the recently release Disney Pixar's Soul and how poignant it is in today's world. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens was first published in London in 1843 and recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.
Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol during a period when the British were exploring and re-evaluating past Christmas traditions, including carols, and newer customs such as Christmas trees. He was influenced by the experiences of his own youth and by the Christmas stories of other authors, including Washington Irving.
Dickens was inspired following a visit to the Field Lane Ragged School, one of several establishments for London's street children. The treatment of the poor and the ability of a selfish man to redeem himself by transforming into a more sympathetic character are the key themes of the story.
Published on December 19th, the first edition sold out by Christmas Eve. By the end of 1844 thirteen editions had been released. In 1849 Dickens began public readings of the story, which proved so successful he undertook 127 further performances until 1870, the year of his death. A Christmas Carol has never been out of print and has been translated into several languages. The story has been adapted many times for film, stage, opera and other media.
A Christmas Carol captured the zeitgeist of the mid-Victorian revival of the Christmas holiday. Dickens had acknowledged the influence of the modern Western observance of Christmas and later inspired several aspects of Christmas, including family gatherings, seasonal food and drink, dancing, games and a festive generosity of spirit.

This week's Disney Detective segment takes a look at a new animation school Disney will be embarking on that builds upon Walt Disney's legacy with the hope of producing the talented animators of tomorrow at the Promise Youth Animation Academy. Tales from the Edge of the Galaxy introduces us to a new Star Wars Holiday Special, this one done in the style of Lego's that draws on some of the concepts of the original cult classic 1977 Star Wars Holiday Special.
In Entertainment news we learn that Flash Gordon's Brian Blessed discovered a fan of his 1980 campy sci-fi film in an unexpected person. Quentin Tarantino has thoughts on what the next Star Trek movie should be and the original series episode it draws inspiration from. We'll also look at how New York Comic Con will continue it's story legacy in a similar way to other popular comic book conventions during the COVID-19 lock down.
Finally we'll finish off with two great Insightful Picks of the week. One a second season recommendation that's already appeared on the show and the other a pop-culture documentary that no geek should miss.
Back checks are in the news this week in our Disney Detective segment. Disney's Hollywood Studios is implementing new Artificial Intelligence Bag Check Scanners that have already proven effective in speeding up lines and detecting illicit items such as weapons in Epcot. Then we'll take a look at bag checks gone wild at Disney when 69 year old Hester Burkhalter was subjected to a bag check that ultimately led to her arrest and a full body cavity search after it was revealed that she was carrying CBD oil into the park. Finally we'll take a look at the latest movie role that Tom Hanks will be taking on for Disney studios.
In Tales from the Edge of the Galaxy we'll take a look at just how Star Wars got their titles wrong. A fan video shows that the titles of all nine primary Star Wars movies work much better when they are applied to different movies. The videos gives the alternative titles and their reasoning and will leave you wondering if perhaps there wasn't a larger theme at play with the naming of the movies.
Entertainment news this week is all about Disney's latest live action remake Mulan. In an unexpected change of policy speculated on in the podcast a few weeks ago Disney will be streaming the movie on Disney+ but with a catch. While that news was a welcome change of heart to most of us, one theater operator in France didn't take the news so well. We have that story and his reaction this week as well.
We'll finish this week up with a bit of a reversal of roles in our Insightful Picks of the Week, with Michelle highlighting a documentary and Joe a surprising non-documentary pick this week.
Just what is the cost of staying safe at Disney World during the COVID-19 crisis, we'll get the inside scoop from so Disney employees. We'll also look at some of the unique Disney Park items coming up for auction this month as Disney hosts the "Disneyland: The First 65 Years" auction in Sherman Oaks California on August 15th and 16th.
Tales from the Edge of the Galaxy gives us some disappointing news about delays in three of the as yet untitled Star Wars movies on the horizon due to the COVID-19 crisis. We;ll also take a behind the scenes look at the true inspiration for Supreme Leader Snoke from the man who designed the character.
In Entertainment news we have some additional delays due to COVID-19. Films like "A Quiet Place 2", "Top Gun: Maverick" and even a sequel to "Sonic The Hedgehog" are all getting delayed release dates. Tales from the Edge of the Galaxy has news on a new spin off series from the Clone Wars centered on the "Bad Batch" that premiered in the final season of Clone Wars. Headed up by Dave Filoni we'll see the Star Wars animated world live on after all. We'll also look at speculation of who the ready made villain of a new Star Wars show slated to launch in Disney+ in the near future and lead by Leslye Headland, creator of the Netflix series Russian Doll.
In Entertainment News we'll look at the news of Tom Holland currently being in talks with Disney for a six movie deal to keep the Spiderman franchise going strong. Finally we'll look at a story about a very special young man who played hero to his sister by saving her from a vicious dog attack and the outpouring of support from fictional heroes in the entertainment world, not the least of which is Tony Stark himself Robert Downey Jr.

It's an interested set of rumors, innuendo and convenient timing that are combined into some fascinating if not a bit far fetched theories.
Entertainment News explores how San Diego Comic-Con will be coming to you at home this year. We'll talk about the recently announced 6th season of the Crown. We'll also take a look at the schedule of Great Performances that PBS will be releasing for us to enjoy a little bit of Broadway at home.

Star Wars Insights takes a look at how Stormtroopers are helping to encourage social distancing at Disney Springs. Ahmed Best, known for the iconic role of Jar Jar Binks returns to the Star Wars universe with a new game show. We'll also look at the expected delays to the next phase of the Star Wars Universe Star Wars: The High Republic.
In Entertainment News the awards shows are at it again with more ridiculously restrictive rules and their selective interpretation of those rules. Apparently the Gold Globes takes issue with Pedro Pascal wearing a helmet for his role in The Mandalorian and is under threat of being declared just a voice actor and ineligible for any Globe awards for acting. We'll bash the Golden Globes a bit for this idiotic move.
Then we'll move on to our Insightful Picks of the Week with a couple of good ones including a new satirical role for Steve Carell.
As Disney readies to open it's parks there is controversy swelling around the use of facemasks. Disney heir and grandson of Walt Disney is the latest family member to come out against the corporate giants policies on paying bonuses to management during a massive furlough of it's employees. George Lucas talks about a little known link between Yoda of Empire Strikes Back and Baby Yoda of The Mandalorian.
Universal Studios announces it will be the first mega theme park to open in the Orlando Florida area, testing the waters and setting a precedent for others to follow. John Krasinski's supposedly home grown news show sells out to ViacomCBS after an apparent heated bidding war. Some of our favorite conventions announce the show must go on but with delayed dates plus our Insightful Picks of the Week.
Disney Detective looks at the recently published plan for the reopening of Disney World starting with a phase I approach that has Disney Springs partially opening. We'll also look at Disney's 'Frozen' show on Broadway becoming another apparent casualty of the COVID-19 situation.
In Star Wars Insights we'll take a look at a Twitter storm surrounding comments made by Lucasfilm executive Matt Martin. More importantly, we'll look at the fan reaction to his off the cuff comments and see just how passionate and how inappropriate the Star Wars fans can be when their franchise is threatened in any way.
Grease is the word in Entertainment News this week, replacing the Tony Awards broadcast with the Grease singalong. And news of a film adaptation of the Tony award winning smash hit "Hamilton" featuring the original cast which will be appearing on Disney+ in July.

We'll also explore how idiotic one particular Christian Fundamentalist group proved they are by righteously demanding a show they found offensive be removed from a streaming network that it wasn't even available on, proving just how clueless they were on the subject.
