In November 2020, over 300 Anglican justice and mercy practitioners shared zoom space for their annual Gathering. In the year of the pandemic where we kept hearing about "the new normal," The Matthew 25 Initiative wanted to talk about what's always normal for Christians, companioning the vulnerable.

Listen in on a roundtable, panel discussion led by Herb Bailey with Allan Tan, Diane Reece, William Evanson, and Taylor Ishii as they discuss big issues around the topic of race. The group offers representatives from both Matthew 25 and the AMEN Panel.

Anglicans have a rich history of caring for all people in society, spanning from birth to death. Theologians like John Stott have explored this heritage, as well as canon law having been written into the ACNA charging us in a Christlike way to care for all.

Being able to see and understand poverty and lack of resources and access in North America is the first step to being able to come near “the least of these.” To move from the “quartet of the vulnerable” of the Old Testament to 21st century Canada, Mexico, and the US requires an attentive posture of learning.

Humans play an important role in caring for all creation as the image of God. We are called to tend to this world in the keeping of and contending for Shalom. The Bible has much to say about what it means to work towards restoring humanity, as it offers vision for what it will be like in the new heavens and new earth.

The Bible has much to say about immigration and the movement of peoples. Our speaker Dr. Carroll draws on his fascination and deep knowledge with the Old Testament to lead us through what the Bible says about this topic. As his research focuses on prophetic literature and OT social ethics, Dr. Carroll is committed to connecting careful biblical scholarship with the mission of the church as it engages today’s complex realities.
