Well, we made it. One weekend officially in the books, and man was it a fun one. Plenty of baseball left to go, but things went as expected if not better for our boys in red and pinstripes (respectively). We breakdown the opening series, share our thoughts on some early reactions, and give some updates in our little slice of fantasy land. We are nearing the end of the first month of the season, and if you have been paying attention in its no surprise that we are a little shook with how the league looks. Unexpected results are the name of the game, and it has infected every division. We dive deep into that, we talk about some controversial front office decisions (well really just one), and the growing feeling of doom that we feel inside about this season. Howdy Interleaguers, welcome back to another week with your favorite hosts. Ok, so listen... I know we were quick to jump in the deep end and scream the sky is falling. Im happy to report we took a more relaxed approach this week, and try to find some silver linings. Those small things that you can hang some positive vibes on. We discuss the continued disappointing start from the Cardinals, break down some of the weaknesses we have noticed, and simply call them out as potential areas of concern. The vibe is much happier on the Yankees side of town - but they still sit 3.5 GB behind a Rays team that had the most favorable schedule to start a season ever. Needless to say, we get its a long season, and understand it could be a bit much if we a doomsayers start to finish. Holy crap we are back. This isnt a fever dream... after a little hiatus we are dropping new content bringing you the latest info from Spring Training, sharing our thoughts on the World Baseball Classic - and sharing some love for all things St Louis sports. Its been an extended hiatus due to holidays and vacations, but we bring you gifts to get you that holiday season fix. We discuss the offseason as whole, what next season may spell in terms of the way offense is generated, and do some comparisons between where our clubs finished 2022 and what 2023 projections look like. What's Up Interleaguers... It's been a few weeks but we are back with a post season wrap up, and a brief glance into the comings and goings of the offseason so far. Its a bittersweet victory as we see the Houston Astros raise the trophy this season, all the reasons why simply lie inside this episode. We also break down Arbitration action with both our teams, the current make up of the 40 man roster, and what the QO scenarios look like for this season. Whats up you Interleaguers. We are back with our 2022 Season Wrap Up. It wasnt the outcomes we were hoping for, but likely the expected outcomes for both. The Yankees were shown to be the inferior team in their ALCS matchup with the Astros.... again. We discuss a bit about what this offseason may hold for our clubs. There was some surprise news on the coaching front for the Redbirds, we appreciate your efforts Skip and good luck in Miami. In the Yankees camp, early reports are that Rizzo will be opting out - maybe some money to help this pitching staff (sorry, maybe some MORE money because a ton is coming off the books). For Chris its football season, for myself its hockey season. We will of course continue to bring you all of our opinions when topics drop that are noteworthy - but expect us back in a regular cadence of every week or 2 at least for November. Fantasy playoffs are underway, MLB playoffs are starting to shape up, and both our squads are starting to click at the right time. Welcome back my dudes... Things havent gotten much better in the Yankee camp, but I promise I try my best to be optimistic this week. We also discuss the Cardinals situation of course. We delve into the recently released playoff schedule, and I explain how I think this is another botch job by the MLB. We also spend some time talking about some stars on our respective clubs chasing history. Aaron Judge and Albert Pujols have the chance to make these seasons to remember with their respective chase of home run history. Judge is narrowing in on the AL single season record, and Pujols is making a run at becoming the 4th member of the 700 club. Of course we spend some time looking into the future of our organizations, and if nothing else, I will say both appear to be bright and flexible. Times are good here at the Interleague, and what better way to celebrate a stellar year of baseball with a centennial episode coming to you at the beginning of October. With the ASB behind us, we have entered what is commonly called the "second half of the season". I find this wildly inaccurate, and it irks me - im weird, I wont apologize for it. Dont worry I cover all this inside. In addition to your typical updates, we also get into some trade deadline talk. Everyone is throwing around one name, Juan Soto, so we figured why not join the cause. We continue to stress the plethora of options available to our teams, and how trading prospects doesnt mean giving up the future. Another short hiatus and we are back. The offseason has been along one due to this annoying lockout. As the two business continue to bicker about who gets to be more rich (very much aware I am over simplifying), we continue to bring you a variety of sports coverage with what we can. Updates on all things CBA, our thoughts on the matter, how we as fans can make a difference and how we are truly impacted. Plus we branch out a bit, some front office news, some Blues, some fantasy baseball, and most important how sports are working to support and unify a world against the terror that is happening in Ukraine. We are dusting off the cobwebs after a month off, and we are happy to report baseball has basically given us nothing. The pissing match continues, but we give you our thoughts on the latest efforts to drag the order side through the mud. Baseball is still in lockdown, so we provide what information we have, as well as a few odds and ends. We get into a little hockey chatter, and even talk football. As the lockout continues through its 3rd week, we are finally back to bring you updates... SPOILER: There really arent any. However, we still share our opinion on how things have been handled to this point, some info about the well being of the NHL, fantasy football updates as that comes to a close, plus your other typical nonsense. After a week off for the holiday, we are back and its time to dive in to the Yankees roster. We dont go as deep as we did with the Cardinals, and as you give this a listen - youll learn why. The Hot Stove has been sizzling, the award season has come and gone, and the CBA expiration is on the horizon. We give love to each of these, but mainly this is 90 minutes of me talking through the most ludicrous trades/deals I could come up with that I could make reasonable arguments for them to be viable. And with that another MLB season is in the books. Congrats to the Atlanta Braves on becoming the 16th franchise in the 21st century to win a World Series. Unfortunately, there is a gray cloud on the horizon that looms like the arrival of Ganon at the beginning of a Zelda game. This one however goes by the name of the CBA. Hopefully this time next month we arent talking about what needs to happen to end the work stoppage, but it seems like a strong possibility we will be. Until then though, we set the stage for the impending awards to be given out next week, celebrate those already received, and share some of the other highlights from this season as a whole. Setting the stage for next few weeks, we will be doing a deep dive into the roster make up for the Cardinals, then the Yankees, then focusing solely on the CBA - either what the dilemma is or what the new agreement consists of. Life required us to take a week off (really we were watching the Blues make franchise history), but we are back. The Cardinals have a new manager, will they have a new approach? Or different philosophies...? The Yankees are awaiting the end of the World Series to start their march towards #28 - with a rejuvenated Aaron Boone. We talk football, hockey, fantasy baseball lore, we are all over the place. Baseball has 1 or 2 games left before crowning another champion - possibly the 15th different team in the 21 years so far this century. Also, lets take a moment of silence to honor the end of an era - Sunday October 31st marked the last time an MLB game will be played without a DH* (NOTE: This is wishful thinking). We apologize for the rants through out the episode, but if you have made it this far, you know to expect it. We unexpectedly had to take another week off due to some scheduling conflicts, but we are back in time to celebrate the playoffs. It wasnt without its bump and bruises, and a high level of doubt on my end - but our boys got there. Both are playoff bound, both the #5 seed choosing the hard route to try and capture the crown. The Cardinals clinched early in impressive fashion, the Yankees waited until the the final hour to cash in their ticket. Both are playing some good baseball. With the end of July every year I celebrate two things. The day I stepped into the world for the first time, and the MLB Trade Deadline. This year the trade deadline was celebrated a day early, but it was a great start to a birthday weekend. Chris and I talk all things trade deadline for the Cardinals and Yankees. Well baseball was rough for me again this week. Yankees struggled again against division rivals. Cardinals continue to struggle dropping 6 of 7. Fantasy even ended in a tie for me (at least Chris won). Another rant session breaking down that we basically dont know what needs to happen to turn things around. Second Base is typically home to the little guy. Those scrappy type ballplayers who are pesky at the plate, but seemingly are all over the right side of the infield. This is the typical makeup given the need to range far to their left as the first basemen holds a runner on, as well as be at the bag to turn a vital double play. Quick feet and soft hands go a long way for this role. Historically, this position was manned by some of the best defensive players, and not much has changed in today's game. Playing the "hot-corner" is most easily stated as a position for the courageous. Cheating in, only to use your meek leather shield to defend yourself from a ball that seems more like a missile. Back hands down the line, or deep into the hole to their left. Throws on the run, or from their knees. These guys do it all, and often make it look easy. Some of them even have a pretty big bat to come along with it. Baseball greats like Brooks Robinson and Mike Schmidt to the more modern era of Adrian Beltre and Chipper Jones. Today's game sees this position played by a lot of makes and models. Guys like Evan Longoria, Manny Machado, and Nolan Arenado have cultivated this back to a position of power in the lineup – while Arenado also - as well as guys like Matt Chapman - shows why the third basemen is often the best defensive player on the field. The shortstop is one of the most versatile positions in the game. It's hard to pinpoint a prototypical shortstop, but quite often they are a leader on the team. Either a primary leader, or second in command behind the catcher when dealing with the infield. When considering some of the greatest shortstops of all-time, it's of no surprise that most of the people you put in the Top 10-15 are all Hall of Fame members. From power hitters like Ernie Banks, to Iron Men like Cal Ripken Jr, to defensive wizards like Ozzie Smith – shortstops come in all shapes and sizes. This episode we will dive into the realm of Shortstops, and make our selections for our team. Your boys at The Interleague continue their efforts of filling in their All Wild Card Era franchise teams - rounding out the outfield with their selections for left field. Also some not so quick hits about the current status of the MLB/MLBPA discussions, some information from an interesting ESPN article, and all sorts of other shenanigans.
We decided to try our hands at creating our own "all-time" teams. To keep it a little more relevant, rather than doing of all-time, we gave ourselves back to 1995 (when the wild card was first introduced) until present day (2019 season). We are focusing strictly on the Cardinals and Yankees, and both of us will be creating our own team for each franchise. The only limitation other than time frame, is that the players must have played 150 games or more at that position – or be in the Top 5 in games played for that position (this guarantees we at least have 5 players to choose from to add a greater chance of variation – see Catchers for the Cardinals). Join us as we continue to fill in our roster, with this episode delving into the world of Center Field.
With the Dream Bracket finished, The Interleaguers dive into creating their own all-wild card era (1995-2019) franchise teams. We will go position by position and choose a list of players to bring to the table for both the Cardinals and the Yankees – ultimately choosing one to be our "starter" for each team. Players must have played at least 150 games for the team at that position to be eligible (or be in the Top 5 for Games Played at that position). The reasons are our own, and we will do our best to explain them – join us as our journey kicks off, and we make our decisions for RIGHT FIELD.
For Episode 3 we explore two of the many things the MLB is doing to help their fans get that MLB fix. Both are focused in to what was previously a relatively untapped market for the MLB – an online presence. The MLB Dream Bracket presented by Draft Kings, and the MLB The Show Players League.
Episode 2 centralizes around the current state of the MLB. Due to COVID-19, the MLB season has been postponed indefinitely as of now. This has sparked a lot of discussion as to how/when the MLB can go about preventing losing the entire season. This episode we will discuss some of the options being discussed that have been made public, some options that we have brainstormed of our own, and some ideas straight out of left field - those dream scenarios that may only be able to exist in a situation such as this.
