The Zac Anesbury Show is your elite marketing practitioner and academic podcast. Hosted by Dr Zachary Anesbury, the inaugural Gerald Goodhardt Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Senior Marketing Scientist at the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute University of South Australia, you will gain insights from the best marketers throughout the world.Subscribe today to stay up to date with a new episode uploaded on the first Monday of each month. Released 6am Adelaide Australia time (ACDT). Roughly Sunday evening in London, and Sunday afternoon in New York.
Benedetta is an Associate Professor at Birkbeck, University of London, United Kingdom.
When Benedetta visited the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute, we grabbed coffee, and I was instantly drawn to her optimism, intelligence, and research. I knew she would make a fantastic guest, and I was thrilled she agreed and delivered!
Benedetta is not one to shy away from pursuing her career goals, whether moving internationally, learning multiple languages, or taking on leadership roles… no wonder she was promoted so quickly (twice)!
Luckily, she carefully curates her story and allows us to learn from success.
Towards the end of the episode, we learn about the novel area of Influencers, but in a business-to-business environment and how this differs from what we typically see as everyday consumers.
Still, early in her career, I will follow Benedetta’s research for years.
So, without further ado – Benedetta Crisafulli!

Welcome!
On today’s podcast, we have Associate Professor Re-an Müller.
Re-an is an Associate Professor of Marketing Management at North-West University in South Africa.
Re-an is a passionate educator in the university sector. His teaching philosophy centres on seeing students as much more than just students.
In this same vein, Re-an advocates for rewarding excellent educators and creating innovative methods for identifying at-risk students (not an easy task across multiple languages and campuses).
Re-an’s teaching is not just theoretical; he values connecting his students to industry and allowing them to showcase their skills – with some even landing full-time positions afterwards.
Re-an leaves us with his hot tips about conference attendance, improving your ability to conduct more meaningful performance reviews, and, as always, providing some words of wisdom.
So, without further ado - Re-an Müller!

Welcome!
On today’s podcast, we have Professor Jacqueline Eastman.
Jackie is a Professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, United States.
Until now, I had only really known Jackie through our connection with the Journal of Consumer Behaviour – her being one of the Editor-in-Chiefs and I a Senior Associate Editor- but you instantly feel like you are close friends.
Jackie’s story of hanging her father’s parchment in her office and sharing his life advice with us is something really special.
We discuss early versions of online learning, how they evolve today, of course the journal – but thankfully for us, her research. You will want to tune in if you like social media and sustainability.
Jackie is so generous with her advice, whether for attending AMA conferences, reviewing for journals, or using LinkedIn to get your first role – all nuggets of gold.
So, without further ado – Jackie Eastman!

Welcome!
On today’s podcast clip, we have our very first return guest, Bob Moore.
Bob is the podcast's, which is undoubtedly an honour for me and the audience.
Bob has had an extensive career in brand management and customer insights in the United States for some brands you would recognise, such as Campbell’s Soup, Sara Lee, Nabisco, and SC Johnson.
We talk about what Bob has learned by seeing the Laws of Growth in action and his growing and enduring affiliation with the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute, which stems from his sabbatical.
Being polygamously loyal, Bob listens to other podcasts and recommends a few of his favourite hosts and guests before giving us insights into his social media habits.
Bob provides timely insights into how consumers will behave given inflation and cost-of-living pressures. He then shifts his attention to his views on the future of virtual reality and artificial intelligence in marketing.
Hosting Bob again was a real treat; his generosity with his time and expertise is evidenced throughout.
So, without further ado – Bob Moore.

Welcome to today's podcast.
We have Professor Colin Campbell. Colin is an Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of San Diego in California, United States.
Colin is also famous for being the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Advertising Research.
One of our field's top-tier journals bridges the gap between academia and industry.
Colin has had a truly international career, landing various positions at prestigious universities.
His excellent giving nature meant that he never declined a review. Still, these good deeds have paid off, having been invited to many editorial review boards and eventually becoming the editor-in-chief of J A R.
We discussed together the value of research in marketing education, and we then compared and contrasted the different approaches to research, whether that's specializing or having a generalizable research agenda.
Colin provides terrific insights into one of his latest articles, which discusses the role of deep fakes and artificial intelligence in advertising.
You're not gonna wanna miss that one.
We wrap up our conversation by gaining some amazing tips from Colin about how to use our time to the most maximum efficiency and how we can land our first job in marketing.
So without further ado, Professor Colin Campbell.

Welcome !
On today's podcast
We have Danielle Talbot.
Danielle is a marketing coordinator in postgraduate course work at the
University of Adelaide.
Danielle was really kind of fortunate because she knew exactly what she wanted to do when she was younger.
She always knew that she wanted to find a role and a career in marketing.
And boy, did she make the most of that advantage.
She got involved in all sorts of things, like internships, committees, mentorship, programmes, all of these incredibly high achieving things, which is obviously hand in hand with such a high achieving woman.
Danielle shares her insights as to how she stays up to date with what is happening in marketing and what is going on in the marketing world because she uses that to maximise her own opportunities.
we talk about the fantastic future we all have in creating a new university, , the creation of Adelaide University and the intellectually stimulating marketing decisions that are naturally going to be made along that journey.
We end our talk by discussing the fact that rejection may actually be redirection when you have a look at the grand scheme of things in life.
I personally think that's a wonderful t-shirt idea that she should run with.
She then talks about how you shouldn't then get discouraged if
something doesn't fall your way because the next opportunity will be just around the corner.
So without further ado, Danielle Talbot.

Welcome!
On today's podcast, we have Professor Ekant Veer.
Ekant is a Professor of Marketing at the University of Canterbury. He is just one of those people you meet and instantly get good vibes from.
Despite his rapid rise from completing his PhD to becoming a full-fledged Professor, he remains exceptionally humble.
In today's episode, we discuss various topics, including how he built a successful international career, navigating the academic promotion cycles, and what it means to be a great supervisor. We, of course, talk about many other cool things along the way, too.
Ekant discusses one of his most recent academic papers, which involves why people watch user-generated content. We gain valuable insights into what usually is just a written form of communication - a real treat for us and something I've enjoyed.
He'll give us a few book recommendations and some life advice that will really hit home.

Chris has witnessed firsthand the world-class training that they're marketing scientists receive, his now snap up three of them for his own personal team! Chris has this wonderful ability to be mentored by those he admires but provides his mentees with enough room to grow, aiming that one day they will no longer need him, a trait that I personally quite admire. We talk about incorporating evidence-based marketing within an organisation and the impacts of Covid-19 on retail. There is no doubt you will enjoy this chat as much as I did. So without further ado Chris Villani!

Hervé is the current Director of Kedge Global Executive MBA and Professor of Marketing and has published in top academic journals such as Food Quality and Preference and the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services. He now lives in Paris with his wife, but being an academic, and one in Hervé's position means that he is constantly traveling to both India and China. We speak a lot about how Hervé accidentally found himself in marketing, with a chance encounter with Professor Larry Lockshin (who will hopefully be a podcast guest in the future). Isn’t it funny how life sometimes tells us where to go?!
Zac talks with Professor Ashish Sinha while he was visiting the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute during his sabbatical. The thing that struck Zac was just how humble he is for someone so accomplished. While Ashish is an accomplished research Professor, his recent role within University of Technology Sydney (or UTS) was the Associate Dean (Research and Development) and that really steered out discussion. The two go into great detail about the history of business schools, the current state of play, and importantly where they will be in the future. As marketers who often sit within business schools, or are accompanied within an MBA - this is a useful discussion to be had.
Zac talks with Professor Johan Bruwer of University of South Australia about what is is like being a research intensive Professor of marketing and how his experience being the CEO of a company employing over 300 people allows him to bridge the gap between academia and industry. We go into detail about conferences, collaboration, and publishing - so you have a real opportunity to learn from a leading academic in the his field.
