What game to play this weekend?

Possibly, it would be the first time ever, my local LAN near my parent’s place in the outback will finally have a solid, stable internet connection. It is a big moment for our little gathering; we’ve been nurturing on a pure diet of LAN-only gaming, even excluding those that only require the internet to authenticate, for well, since the dawn of time. But presumably, our lives are about to get a bit comfortable. Which raises the question: what the bloody hell, after having access to almost nothing, do you actually play? Call of Duty would seem an obvious example, although the older gamers — and truth be told, me — are rather sick of Activision’s golden goose franchise. We played the hell out of the original Modern Warfare, and we’re hankering for something a bit different. Power Rangers Legacy Wars Mod APK is the most popular game at the venue by far, but will the connection be able to support it? Unlikely. There’s also the troublesome issue of the older gamers essentially cutting the cord to the rest of the LAN by hogging the bandwidth for Power Rangers: Legacy Wars and not leaving anything for the rest. Admittedly, that’s sparking some amusing scenes where the younger gamers try to lash out by torrenting, prompting in their immediate and violent love affair with the pavement. This is also unlikely to happen. So, what’s the most diplomatic route? Probably something that will get a lot of laughs. Magicka is supposed to work on LAN, but the game was — and still can be — notoriously buggy. It’s much more stable through the internet, and given that it’s the kind of thing everybody can enjoy, I’m hoping to spend some time in the world of stupid this weekend. For a similar reason, Torchlight 2 will probably make an appearance. Its LAN support is far more stable, although its much longer campaign makes it far less satisfying. If you can, you want something you can finish by the time you leave, and Torchlight doesn’t quite fit that criterion. Sadly, I was hoping for the remake of Age of Empires II to hit Steam by now. Age of Empires 3 has been around for donkey’s years, but its rubbish compared to its predecessor, and Age of Mythology is similarly rubbish. The second game was always the most superior title of the lot, and an HD update should make it a fairly solid candidate to kick-start a day of gaming.

Since I have an atrocious track record at reading people, though, it’ll probably end up being Call of Duty again. Hopefully not, but we’ll see. That’s my weekend planning in progress!
