The Elephant in the Room: Recent Episodes

Caitlyn Wells

Life is all about perspective and sometimes we need to be shown a new way of thinking. It's okay. There are many conversations that need to be had...and now more than ever is the time to have them. I hope that this podcast challenges everyone who listens to it to not only open their minds, but also their hearts. I encourage everyone to take part in the conversations and to not let them die at the end of each episode. We're going to talk about it all: mental health, relationships, loss and so much more. So sit back, grab your favorite snack and join me as we address the elepant in the room.

I know that I told you all that I would be more consistent in my posting in the last episode. However, just like many of you, COVID-19 came through and did some damage in my life and I’m still picking up the pieces trying to make sense of it all. This is not a typical episode. This episode is very personal. Though I was hesitant to make and release this episode, I had to think about the purpose of my podcast: to help others feel like their not alone and to maybe help someone who may be going through the same thing(s) that I am. If you are going through something, know that you can always email me or send me a message if you need someone to talk to. Hopefully this episode does what it’s supposed to do and reaches the people it needs to. To all of my family and friends, thank you for the support and love you have shown me through this insane time. You don’t know how much it means to me. Please know that I am not attacking anyone in this episode. I love you all and I am thankful to have you all in my life.

In this episode I discuss what bipolar stability is and how I managed to achieve and maintain it the few times that I have. There are many things over the years that I have had to learn to change and sacrifice in over to achieve this stability and it wasn't always easy, but it was most definitely worth it. What would you be willing to sacrifice to achieve and maintain bipolar stability?

Follow me on Instagram and Twitter for all episode releases and updates. There may be a few extra special holiday episodes so stay tuned for sure. Remember you can always e-mail me with questions, comments or to just talk. I'd love to hear from you. Until next time...be safe and remember that I love you.

In this short episode, I'll be talking about finding the right treatment plan and how important it can be for people with mental illnesses. I will also talk about my struggles in trying to find the right treatment plan for myself over the years.

I thought it would be a great idea to share what it has been like for me to be a new parent with bipolar disorder. Parenting is hard enough without a mental disorder; but because I have one, I have faced some challenges that other people may not have. In this episode I talk about my fears of having children, what my pregnancy journey was like, my run-in with post partum depression, and my journey thus far as a parent while juggling "the return" of my bipolar disorder. Though I share many details, it's not a complete detailed story. If you would like to share your story or have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave me a voice message, DM on Twitter or Instagram or email me a cw.elephantroom@gmail.com. I'd be happy to hear your stories or answer any questions you may have. I get that this may not be a story everyone wants to hear, but you never know who's going through something similar to what you went through and you never know who is listening. Hopefully this episode reaches the person/people it needs to.

*If you know a mother who is expecting or has recently given birth, please do me a favor and check on them and lend a hand. DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER! Whether they have a mental/physical condition or not, whether they are married/in a relationship or not or whether you think they have all the help that they need...just ask...or better yet (because we all can be reluctant to accept help of any kind) just do something for her. No gesture is too small.

Love you all. See you next time! <3

We have all received "the talk" at some point in our lives. Whether it be the coming of age/sex talk, the bullying talk, the "don't talk to strangers" talk, we have all been sat down by an adult a had one or more versions of "the talk". However, given recent, and not so recent, events, parents are finding themselves having a (not so) new talk with their children. This (not so) new talk covers topics such as racial injustice, police brutality, racism/colorism, etc. Things we didn't think we would still be talking about in the year 2020, or at least not in this way and not to our young children/babies. Join me as I explore the new talk of 2020. In this episode, we are also given a different look at "the talk" by 2 professional Black women with children. Feel free to leave a voice message if you would like to make a comment or send me an email at cw.elephantroom@gmail.com. I'm always open to revisit any topic and have a deeper, more in depth conversation about it.

I wanted to dive deeper into this topic, but for the sake of time and my emotions...I gave you honesty in a simple, less emotional form.

I'm sure you've seen the hashtag #endstigma somewhere on your social media. Mental health stigma is a real issue and it's time we talk about exactly what it is, why it even exists and how to get rid of it once and for all. It's not easy living with a mental illness, and we don't need people painting the wrong picture of us creating more panic and fear. Help me by joining in on this conversation and making the pledge to end mental health stigma.

The beginning half of this episode is me simply checking in with everyone- making sure that you all are okay given everything going on in the world (and our country) right now. The second half of this episode is a brief (somewhat rushed) story time that explains how I began my "bipolar journey". I know I rushed through and skipped a lot of details, but a more detailed episode is coming soon. This is just a introduction as to who and where I am now in my life so that when I do start to discuss details, you'll have some background as reference. If there are any questions or comments, please feel free to leave a voice message so that I can feature and address it in the episodes to come. You can also send me an email at cw.elephantroom@gmail. com or send a message on Instagram or Twitter. I do apologize for the late episode. I appreciate your support thus far and I hope you enjoy listening. <3

This episode is just an introduction the the podcast; giving my viewers a chance to get to know me and what they can expect from this podcast. I also took the second half of this episode to talk about a recent current event as to explore our compassion (and lack thereof) for people with mental disorders. This is a short episode just to kick things off and get the conversations starting. I hope you enjoy and subscribe. -Caitlyn
