Hi my name is Andrew, We all are in many ways on our way home. Whether we are driving home from work, or we are walking home. Maybe we are not long for this world, or maybe we are trying to find home. Maybe home is in our identity, or maybe it’s in other things. I personally choose to believe a lot of my identity is found in my faith.
Join me as I talk about how I do life, maintain my identity in my faith, be a leader, pastor, friend, brother, husband, father and musician. All on my drive home.

Editing ourselves. Cutting up what we would say. For what is the real message. Is this a good practice? Do we need to do it more often? Or are we allowing corrupting speech to come out of our mouths, because we are too proud to admit we need to edit ourselves. Let’s talk about that this journey.

Going too far isn’t inherently evil. In fact some might say we don’t go far enough to end poverty. But by the same stretch we don’t go far enough to spread the gospel. Live like the apostles and die for the sake of Christ. Especially those of us in Christian friendly countries.I have found in my life though that as a man, father, husband. I can go to far and dramatically impact my family both positively and negatively.Which is why I feel like we should take ownership of the words That’s too far and make them a mantra for heightened state of awareness in our relationships.

Have you ever been picked first for something? Did you have horror stories of being picked last? Are you feeling stressed out by this very concept. Don’t worry we won’t be talking about it very long on this journey.
Being picked first or last is just a rite of passage for those of us who are athletic and those who aren’t. The reality, is we don’t actually realize until much later that because we were chosen doesn’t mean we actually have to agree.

In today's episode, we talk about the season we find ourselves in as being molded, shaped, put in the fire, used, filled by the Potter. Being patient with the process, adjusting our expectations, and taking scripture in the context it should be rather than having it understood and influenced by our modern context. We get into it in this episode of Anything Goes: A Journey Home.

Dear Dad,
I am proud of you. You may not know it but I am very grateful for you. I love you for all the things you got wrong and all the things you got right. I love you for all that you taught me and all that you didn’t. I know you failed incredibly and probably succeeded incredibly.
But, perhaps not in equal amounts as you would have like.
You weren’t perfect. I hope you know that I didn’t expect you to be. I hope you know that I wasn’t completely wrecked when I found out you weren’t.
More than anything Dad, I am grateful that you kept me as close to God as you were able.

Even the bible has a lot to say about it as well! But I am just a worship pastor on this journey called life and I am sharing with you today what my conclusion is so far!

I listen to the bible through the bible app on my drive to and from work. I recently came across a recurring theme in 1 Kings & 2 Kings. Really bad decision-making by a whole bunch of people (including but not limited to God’s people and their kings). Now yes, there were some good decisions by some; but there seemed to be a lot more bad decision-making versus good. This resulted in prophets like Nathan, Elijah, and Elisha being called by God to minister good counsel to those whom God directed them to, who needed it. This seemed like a recurring theme God was pointing me to and I wanted to share on the topic with you all!

Matthew 18:3 'And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.'
I don’t want to lose people here by thinking this is a kid's episode or about parenting. It’s not either of those.
If you don’t have kids that’s ok. What I love about my kids is something we each had or have had within us. Whether you like kids, don’t want kids, think they are loud, messy, or whatever your reason for not being around them or wanting them in your life right now. It’s ok!
But, you were those kids at one point. Playing, creating, imagining, discovering, and solving problems in your life in ways your parents might have said, “Huh! I wouldn’t have done it that way.” This is the kind of realization we need to have about how we seek to incorporate play into our lives.

Today's episode is part 2 but not really. It's more of another effort to try off-the-cuff unscripted content more regularly. See how I can do spit ballin'. But idols come in many forms in our lives these days. I talk about a lot of ways we can create idols in our lives that replace God on the thrones of our hearts. I love TBBT and the episode where Sheldon becomes jealous of a kid who is younger and smarter than he is. Well, let’s just say it’s an episode full of hygienics and crazy. I can feel his pain as I see kids younger than me crushing their musical skills… I sometimes just want to quit…

Do you have boundaries, lines that you don’t cross? Do you have drawn spaces that you don’t venture out of to guard your heart? If not, can we talk?
I believe that when it comes to a relationship with God that we have or take issue with the idea of boundaries. We maybe even view them as limitations, or barriers preventing us from going where we want to go. But if we climb to the top of Mt. Everest, would we just walk off the closest ledge? Maybe we would if saw a rail or fence there. Or maybe a sign that said Do not cross this ledge.

In photography there are 3-5 types of perspective you have via your camera. VISUAL, LINEAR, PHYSICAL, OR CONCEPTUAL. But what is interesting is when you as a photographer about perspective they are actually giving you their perspective on photography. I think I have said perspective too many times there.
In this context we are talking about relationships which is the concept of empathy versus sympathy. But our ability to see others peoples perspectives is important. How I felt viewing the tallest place I have visited versus how it made you feel and how you saw are two different things all together. How we go about communicating those views and feelings is essential. It requires something from us, let's discuss this on our journey home today!

We are all creative in our own rights. But do we withhold our creativity? Do we restrain it? If so why? We really should withhold our creativity. It’s what we were created to do. SO, let’s create! Let’s talk about this as we journey home together.

A cord of three strands, is this the code for a band of brothers or sisters. Is this the code for quality relationships and friendships. Let’s talk about as I get ready to head home.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
"Two are better than one because they have good wages for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not a second one to lift him up. Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can stand against him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart."

Today I talk about the spectrum of Pride and Humility, Selfish versus Selfless. A lot of it has to do with our identity that I talked about in Season 1. But we can't answer the questions, who am I? Why am I here? What purpose was I created for? If we can't define whether we are here for ourselves or for others. Then we will forever wandering through life. With lose morals, trying to find identity in other things. We will be codependent, we will be abusive or even neglectful of relationships. I choose to find my identity in my faith. Let's talk about all this on our journey home.

Creative or artist. Which am I? I recently did a devotional that kind asked this question. It honestly made me think… A LOT. I perhaps am among a lot of you who probably have been inappropriately labeling these words. Perhaps even working from a wrong definition. So, let’s define it on this journey home.

Faithfulness is a foreign word to us. Between us throwing out old shoes and just buying new ones. We are a society that is pretty bent on things becoming more and more disposable and the concept of faithfulness is losing it's meaning. Join me as I talk about my marriage, some wisdom my late grandmother shared with me and others; as well as just some general encouragement on this journey home.

Mater, you know like Tomater but without the Tuh! Bet you didn't know he was a philosopher. But he is. Do we hang onto our memories? I think some we do, but when they are painful we don't. What if we were to actually cherish them? Work the bumps, dents and bruises of this life as we journey to our home. We probably don't because we are too worried about the resell value. Don't know if that applies to our hearts but let's talk about it on this journey home!

Its the dead of spring and we are heading towards summer but winter is coming. Are you ready for it? What are you planting now that will sustain you during the cold of winter? I am not just talking about preparing for the harshest of conditions for surviving with food. Winter is coming can mean a lot of things. Winter is always coming in our lives. I have a question though, what are you planting now to harvest and use during the winter season in your life. Lets talk about preparing for difficult seasons in our lives on this journey home.

We all need some work done on our cars. But what about our hearts? Do we each have a heart mechanic? Do we need one? How do we find one? I talk about the importance of finding that heart mechanic, and maybe for you it's God. For a lot of us it might be professional medical help or spiritual help. Whatever help we need I discuss how we go about finding it and working on it.
