Jesus didn’t really leave His disciples but definitely changed the way they would interact with God. By leaving us with a Comforter, the Holy Spirit He has provided a way for us to overcome in every situation. Because we have access to a storehouse bigger than any on earth. the healing and deliverance that flows from the person of the Holy Spirit provides us with as much or as little as we desire. For desire is the dimmer switch on how he moves through us.
How do we keep ourselves in a place of hope when all is a wasteland around us? How do we keep going forward when all that we have faced? There is a place where the promises of God provide us strength for the fight and in the power of His love we can be victorious. Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning. Sorrow is not the end of our story, we pray let us hold fats to the promises of the Lord.
Jesus in his world-shifting ministry came to institute a new covenant with God that all of the things that had been hard to grasp and even entry to the presence of God would be opened up. Yet the ministry of John and baptism was effective for the time. It allowed us to tread water and remain in place yet fire demands that we move with an urgency catalyzed by the Spirit.
There is a way that we find the grace to move through change and it becomes a great way to enter into the beauty of the love that life produces for us. Eventually the change comes for us and becomes the process by which we leave a legacy of faith. It is in the trusting we come out on the other side of the struggle with a limp that marks us well.
God has called us to trust even when it seems as if all things have been upended. As humans the lie is that one day things will be “normal” and there will never be any change. Yet having lived as long as I have, it stands to be proven that life always has a surprise for us. How do we handle the transition that brings a mix of joy and sorrow yet continue to push into the promises of God.
Jesus has called us into a glorious future together that begins to restore us to the original plan God had for us all along, yo be with Him. Yet in the midst of His longing there is an enemy who desires us to believe and think different thoughts than the ones God has for us. In his untoward way division will always seem to be a sexy alternative. But in our desire for unity we find oneness with Christ and then with each other.
Our uneasy relationship with sin is obvious after our entry into the kingdom of Jesus Christ. He has forever conquered sin and death bringing life to the most desolate places. Why we believe we must remain where Jesus is not? Constantly in a place of struggle with sin and death. What is we paid more attention to our personal pursuit than we did our evil meandering.
Praise is meant go before and not after God does something. In this world we are given to withholding our enamored praise or engagement till the thing we are waiting for manifests.. We worship the stage and not the stages, the homecoming and not the hiddenness. We must embrace the process of who we are becoming and expect that God gets more glory from the time that we are hidden.
We were made for worship. Throughout the history of the world, God has desired for His people to be with him. Our natural response to God's presence and His glory is to worship. Matt shows us the biblical journey of worship and how the important practice can be integrated into our daily lives.
We hunger to know the lives we are living are the right ones. That all of our morals and expectations have been set for a good reason. We yearn to be in the place God desires for us to be. yet and still we find distractions and false narratives that lend credence to this deep yearning. Our hunger for altruism can only be filled by the Spirit of God that brings life and not death. Let our righteousness bring life.
What does it mean to be a part of community? It means that we keep on coming when it comes to pursuit and engagement with each other we hold each other accountable in case we fall by the wayside to be one who engages consistently and in a loving way. With our disposable world we find there is a consumer culture that wants to know what they can get out of life together but a better question is how can I love our community to the ends of the earth?
What does it mean to be a part of community? Water has a characteristic ability to adapt to whatever container you place it in. It also can become a powerful enough force to carve a canyon wear down a coast or blast through rock. Why would Jesus refer to himself as “living water” A place where life is found for the reasons of being life giving. Under the tutelage of our savior we go from being a container to a director of His Spirit. Our goal becomes not to hold and control the spirit but to let the love of Jesus flow through us. Here we find and give away life in amounts that baffle the human mind.
Jesus has some hyperbolic statements in scripture. When He says when you see me you see the Father or I will be seated at His right hand coming in glory. For the powers of the day such statements would be beyond belief. In this passage Jesus is confirming that man can only begin to grasp the fullness of God who in His mercy wants to fill us. Imagine having access to all yet desiring to fill some. May we be enamored by the Love of Christ.
Mason shares from Ephesians 3:1-13 on how we posture our lives to embrace the mysteries of Christ. Can we see is as an invitation to adventure instead of one of trepidation?
Jesus not coming for a partial humanity. His justice is really about all me having access to the throne of grace. In all of our getting unity is so important and as is diversity. This is a genuine posture of the heart to hear from the Lord that requires that we are open to the beauty of other cultures. When we operate as divided brothers and sisters we are forgetting Jesus kicked down the Door!!
The crux of the gospel is a simple yet profound one that captures the work that has been done on the cross. Our sins cleansed and our redemption secured. These verses contain some of the most powerful words and realities that have ever touched earth. W’ed be in a bad state if not for the kindness and riches of God grace shown to us through Jesus Christ.
Our lives remain full of things that compete for our attention. From careers to relationships and other ambitious aims, we decide Jesus must audition all the same. Yet He has no competition. In this portion of Ephesians Paul explains what Jesus has done that no other could manage. may this frame our understanding as we move towards the view of love that encapsulates Jesus sacrifice for us.
Ephesians stands as an important epistle to the people of Ephesus and more-so to all the Christians who followed. A church Paul had helped pioneer personally, they dealt with much of the same apathy and idolatry that we do. Yet they became known for their love and confrontation of the powers (spiritual and physical that exist in that society). Our prayer for this series that exists in two parts is that we would be firm in our foundation and fierce in our confrontation of the powers that be.
There is something about the creation and the peace that comes when we know we are at the very center of His will. Although a storm may church around us we are kept in perfect peace in His presence. That the peace shared by Jesus gives us the ability to walk through all the things we must perfectly centered on His love for us and convinced of a life that lives for Him alone
Joy is not an event but a constant state of amazement. In this place we we join with the radical company of people and the very Sprit of God that rejoices at the coming of Christ. At the beginning of His life shepherd and angels rejoiced and stood in amazement. While at the end children rejoiced and many stood in denial. Maybe in our day it would be “doing too much” or that it doesn’t take all that. When we are amazed Joy becomes natural not forced and the very energy that transforms our lives and the world.
We are called to look into and through the lens of the Love of the Lord. We cannot imagine anything without more of the Lord being placed in our hearts. This is the ultimate motivation for God reframing the Vision of the world through Jesus and burning the hearts of many as we are seared with the purpose and power of the Spirit.
