Kevin Mincher and his guests share ideas to help teenagers, parents and teachers experience more success and happiness.
Health is one of those things that many teenagers take for granted. We tend not to fully appreciate it while we’ve got it. But as soon as you’re unwell, you realise that health is a vital element of your life.
In case you’re not convinced that teen health is something we need to talk more about, here are some statistics we’ve found from the research we’ve conducted in high schools this year...
Less than 3% of young people who completed our surveys are consuming the recommended daily portions of fruits and vegetables. Less than 20% of students are hydrating enough, and around the same number are getting sufficient sleep.
Shocking statistics like this will inevitably lead to problems. Is it any wonder that we’re seeing rapidly increasing rates of preventable illnesses and diseases in teenagers?
If you have poor lifestyle habits and regularly fail to give yourself what you need to be healthy, it’s just a matter of time before something bad happens.
Thankfully, there are lots of things you can do to improve your health and wellbeing. That’s what this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast is all about ☺
Research shows that the average young person in Britain today spends less time outdoors than an average prison inmate.
You will learn: * Health is more than just the absence of disease. (2:41) * Young people now have poorer levels of health than during World War II when food was rationed. (4:23) * The first essential element of teen health is your physical health. Kevin divides this into four sections that you can take action to improve. (8:01) * How many portions of fruits and vegetables we need to consume every day in order to be healthy (clue: it’s more than five!). (8:41) * How a teenager’s mouth is different to an adult’s mouth and how that can cause problems with healthy eating. (10:45) * What we need to do hydrate ourselves properly. (11:34) * Regular exercise is essential for good teen health. (12:10) * Your posture doesn’t just impact your physical wellbeing. It affects your mental and emotional health too. (13:40) * Inappropriate use of technology is preventing many young people from getting the rest they need to be healthy. (14:57) * The second essential element of teen health is mental health. (16:08) * Mental health, just like physical health, doesn’t happen on its own. You need to train the mind for good mental health. (18:08) * The third essential element of teen health is your emotional health. (20:36) * Mental health, emotional heath and physical health are interlinked. Improving one of these elements can have a positive impact on the other two. (22:29) * There’s a difference is between being fit and being healthy. It’s important to focus on the latter instead of only thinking about the former. (26:04)

This episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast is all about how to live your passion – or how to find it, if you haven’t discovered it yet.
All too often, I hear young people say “I’m bored.” As you’ll hear me explain, this boredom can lead to all kinds of negative behaviours such as disengagement in school, bullying, and even crime.
If you’re familiar with that feeling of boredom and lack of motivation, be sure to listen in, because our guest today can help you overcome those feelings and get more excitement into your life.
Ready to hear all about our special guest?

During Anna’s adventures (which involve bikes and running shoes more than planes or trains), she raises money for charity and gives talks to schools. Her enthusiasm, sense of humour and sheer love for life are infectious – I’m confident you’ll catch them as you listen to our conversation.
In this interview, Anna talks about how she failed to reach her childhood ambitions (to become and Olympic athlete like her mum and dad), but ended up achieving something far more fulfilling. It’s inspirational stuff, so tune in if you want to feel uplifted ☺

I’ve been on tour recently, helping students all over the country prepare for their final high school tests and exams. After an event in the northwest of England, a student asked for some extra help:
“Kev, nobody’s ever told me what to do the day before an exam. Have you got any tips that will help me perform at my best?”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: many schools are failing to show students how to perform at their best under pressure. They seem to think it’s sufficient to teach the curriculum and say a few encouraging words. But that’s not good enough. So as we head into exam season, I want to change that by offering some extra help.
It turns out that top achievers in sport, entertainment and business have certain routines they do before important performances that enable them to perform at their best. The same routines can be used by students to succeed in school.
In this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast, you’ll hear tips on what to do (and what and to avoid!) in the 24 hours before tests and exams in order to boost your chances of getting the grades you want.
“You don’t have to be perfect in order to pass tests and exams. Mistakes are inevitable. Just keep doing your best.”

I’m excited about today’s episode for two reasons! Firstly, because this is the first time we’ve ever done a session on financial literacy. Secondly, because of the calibre of our guest!
Sharon Lechter is the go-to person if you want your financial future to be better than your financial past. I first came across her in my late teens or early 20s, when I read the world-renowned Rich Dad Poor Dad (which she co-authored). I recently met her at an event in London, and I’m delighted she agreed to share her wealth insights on The Unstoppable Teen Podcast.
Sharon left school and became an accountant, then set up a publishing business. Next, she started writing and co-writing books, and eventually became CEO of the Rich Dad Poor Dad organization. More recently, she has focused on empowering young people to take control of their money. She currently serves on the National Board of Directors at Childhelp in the United States.
In this episode, Sharon shares some valuable skills for mastering your finances. While money isn’t everything, taking control of your finances gives you freedom of choice. So if you’d like to have more money in the future than you had in the past, this episode for you.
“It’s important to understand the difference between you working hard for money, and your money working hard for you.”

Right now, in the UK, USA, Canada, and other countries around the world, students right are studying for major tests and exams. While the exact tests may vary from place to place, the pressure for students to succeed is commonplace.
Here’s a big problem with that: many young people feel that they don’t know how to prepare effectively for a test or exam. If you aren’t confident in your study skills, you’re not alone. Unfortunately, schools tend to focus on what to learn rather than giving students necessary insights into how to learn effectively.
As I’m recording this, I’m getting ready work with students at the University of Warwick tomorrow. I’ll be sharing proven study strategies with students who are still in high school but have ambitions of going to university.
In this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast, I’m excited to share with you an easy-to-use technique that enabled me to dramatically improve my grades in eight subjects in my last six months of high school. This method made a huge difference for me, and it could work for you too ☺
“Focusing on what to learn isn’t enough. Students must also understand how they learn in order to optimise their progress.”

Right now, high school students around the world are preparing for their final tests and exams, and that pressure is weighing heavily on many young minds.
Last week, I visited my old school to share success strategies with students. Afterward, I had a conversation with a student called Charlotte (not her real name!). In just about every way, Charlotte is a good student: she has good attendance, takes good notes in class, asks lots of questions, studies hard, and has positive relationships with her teachers.
Even so, Charlotte is incredibly nervous about the tests and exams she’s about to complete. She’s anxious and worries about what will happen if she doesn’t get the results she wants.
I gave her various tips and ideas on how to perform at her best under pressure, but since other young people across the country (and world) are facing the same challenges, I’ve decided to share some of these ideas with you in this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast.
I’ve funnelled much of my advice into three simple steps for achieving better grades...

I’m thrilled to bring you a brilliant guest in this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast. If you follow sports, you probably already know of Tom Heaton, the Premier League goalkeeper and captain of the Burnley Football Club who also plays for the England national team.
I first met Tom during his teenage years, and I still remember feeling struck by his personal presence, professional standards, and phenomenal manners. He’s managed to maintain all of those qualities across the years despite some pretty dramatic setbacks and personal success, which he talks about during this conversation.
It’s rare to have such an open and forthright conversation with a superstar, and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did! Even more importantly, though, I hope you’ll learn from the conversation. Tom has some amazing insight into what it takes to live your dreams, and the kind of attitude you need to overcome the inevitable challenges you’ll encounter along the way.
His words of wisdom aren’t only for those who want to be professional sports players. They’re for people who want to be good at anything.
One final note: Tom was in a hotel room in Germany when we had this conversation, and the internet cut out a few times. Please be patient with the occasional sound quality issues; I promise the content is well worth it!

Here’s a surprising fact: in a recent British study, teenagers said that their second-biggest concern was ‘exam stress’. Isn’t it incredible that among all the issues that young people face today, stress is their second-biggest worry?
Today’s teens shouldn’t feel this way. Our youth is supposed to be the time in our lives when we experience lots of fun. It’s a time when we should be carefree and enjoying ourselves before entering the adult phase of life which brings more responsibilities (such as paying bills and raising children).
Yet, somehow, we’ve created a society that’s causing our young people to feel stressed and constantly under pressure, especially in the context of school and grades. It’s unacceptable and we need to do something to fix it.
To make things worse, too much of the wrong kinds of stress can actually inhibit the brain’s performance. It restricts the parts of the brain that deal with memory and recall, which is particularly harmful when you have tests coming up.
In this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast, I’ll give you five solutions that teenagers can use to turn down the stress levels and experience more happiness.
“Only 59% of teenagers told us they feel in control of their emotions. We have do better at teaching emotional intelligence skills to young people so they become more capable in this important area of their lives.”

Doing better in school is a big topic for teens, but it isn’t always as easy as it sounds. As I’ll describe in this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast, sometimes hitting a nail with a hammer isn’t the best way to get the nail in the wall. In other words, spending lots of extra hours studying might be the obvious solution if you’ve fallen behind in a class, but that doesn’t mean it’s the most effective way to improve your grades.
Of course, poor school results can be a problem when it comes to jobs and careers today because education is a key to success. But it’s important to remember that real education extends far beyond the classroom and involves a commitment to lifelong learning too. The world is constantly changing and evolving – we need to be aware of that so we can keep ourselves informed and ahead of the competition.
There’s a strong correlation between this mindset and the surprising piece of grade-boosting research I explore in this episode. It turns out that improving your grades often has less to do with extra time studying the national curriculum, and more to do with understanding a bigger picture.
Instead of going on here, though, I’ll tell you all about how you can use this fascinating research to improve your grades in this episode…

It’s our hope that everyone has a happy childhood. Unfortunately, bad things sometimes happen to teenagers. Eating disorders, self-harm, drug and alcohol addiction, bullying and other traumatic experiences are more common that you might think. In fact, trauma is experienced by approximately 20% of people each year.
So what can you do to fix things if you or someone you care about experiences trauma in the teen years? That’s what this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast is all about.
Thankfully, there are solutions to teenage trauma. To help us with this tricky subject, we’ve got trauma expert, Lisa Cherry, on the show. In case you haven’t already heard of Lisa Cherry, let me introduce her briefly: she’s a talented and insightful speaker, trainer, and author specializing in helping young people, parents, and teachers deal with trauma.
Her own life story is incredibly touching, so much so that you can hear the emotion in my voice as she relates it in our conversation. Instead of trying to summarize it for you, I’ll let you listen to Lisa’s own powerful and moving words. Suffice it to say that she experienced unbelievable issues of her own when she was a teenager, which is why she’s dedicated her career to helping young people.

I was recently visiting a school and delivering my Get The Grades You Want seminar to a group of 16-year old students when a member of the audience told me how their studies had become difficult and they felt like quitting. Have you ever felt like that? If so, this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast is for you :-)
It worries me when students tell me they feel like quitting because school is supposed to be an enjoyable experience. Indeed, we tend to learn more when we’re having fun. However, it’s supposed to be challenging too. We have to remember that one of the main purposes of school is to prepare us for careers, which means we need to use our time in school to master the skills we’ll need in our future workplace. One of these essential employability attributes is resilience.
It just so happens that resilient teens don’t just stand out in job interviews, but research also shows that resilient students tend to achieve better grades in high school too. That’s why we’re focusing on resilience in this episode. I’ll provide valuable tips on how to avoid quitting and be more resilient when the going gets tough at school.

Here’s a tip for achieving success and becoming the best you can be: find people who have achieved extraordinary things, and ask them how they did it. After all, you learn all sorts of other skills from experts and teachers, so why not apply this same strategy to how to achieve success?
That’s exactly what Kevin does for you in this inspirational interview with Richard Gerver. Richard’s past achievements include being the headteacher who lead the transformation of a struggling school in a tough part of England. He was then appointed as a government advisor on education, before becoming a top leader in the business world. He is a bestselling author, has presented TED talks, consulted with massive companies like Google, and even became Business Speaker of the Year. To say he’s good at helping people succeed would be an understatement!
In this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast, Richard offers not only the advice that he’s gathered through his own experiences, but also some that he’s gleaned from conversations he’s had with high achievers like Sam Smith, Jay-Z, Sir Richard Branson, and more.

Get outside your comfort zone After listening to this episode we want to encourage you to do one thing that is outside of your comfort zone. This doesn’t need to be big; it can be as simple as trying a new type of food you’ve never had before, or striking up a conversation with someone you tend to be shy with.
Don’t just do this one. Practice doing it every day, finding at least one chance to push yourself at least a little bit outside your comfort zone. You’ll find that it becomes a habit, and it will help you expand your horizons.
As you do this, remember that it’s okay to fail. Pushing yourself outside your comfort zone won’t always go smoothly, and that’s a good thing! Failure is the chance to learn something new, and to develop the self-confidence that comes from knowing with absolute assurance that you’re able to overcome challenges.

I created Unstoppable Teen in 1997 with the mission of helping a million young people experience a better quality of life. That includes having better grades, self-confidence, relationships, health, and career prospects. Achieving each of those things starts with teen motivation.
Take a look at this Facebook message I received from Andrew recently:
“I’ve got a bit of a problem, Kev. I’m lacking motivation. I’ve got some tests and exams that are coming soon, but I just can’t find the motivation to do the work. Can you give me some help -- some advice to get me back on track?”
His question was wonderfully insightful in identifying the root cause of many teenagers’ problems. In this day and age, with the whole world at our fingertips online, it’s not a lack of resources that holds most students back. Instead, it’s a lack of sufficient motivation. To achieve something, you need to really want it. And as Andrew clearly expressed, sometimes it can be a struggle to maintain this drive.
In this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast, you’ll learn about what you can do to boost your motivation. I offer hints, tips, and easy-to-use strategies to light that fire inside.

A few years ago, the Sutton Trust (in conjunction with Durham University) conducted research to discover what’s actually proven to improve students’ progress and achievement in school. They looked at all the strategies teachers use to help students succeed. Nobody could have predicted what was discovered…
Researchers found that the second-most effective way of improving grades was to help students improve their metacognition and self-regulation skills.
What does this mean in plain English? Well, students who have an awareness of their own thinking and can control their own behaviour tend to achieve more than their classmates who can’t do these things.
In this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast we’ll focus on helping in this critical area of self-regulation.
Here to help you make sense of all this is world-renowned behaviour management expert and bestselling author, Sue Cowley. Sue is an experienced teacher, author of over 20 books, and presenter who travels the globe to help teachers and students succeed.

No matter which side of the pond you’re on, your grades are incredibly important. They can determine whether you graduate, or where you’re accepted to college. All this pressure leads to a lot of stress and anxiety surrounding your grades, tests, and exams.
This is very clear in the types of questions we’ve recently received from parents and students alike, with questions such as this one, from Nick (a parent):
“My son has got some really important final tests and exams coming up in high school this year, and I want to know what I can do as a parent to help him get the best grades possible.”
From Michaela, a student, we have a question that boils down to, “what tips and strategies can I use to improve my grades?”
With so many parents, students, and even teachers wondering some variation of this question, we’ve decided to use this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast to begin offering an answer.

Bullying is a huge problem that many of us face during our teen years. Indeed, according to recent research, bullying currently ranks as teenagers’ greatest concern (above school stress, body image issues, family problems, drug and alcohol concerns, etc.).
So we weren’t surprised when Christopher (aged 16) sent us the following question via Facebook this week…
“I’m getting bullied and I have low self-esteem. The thought of going to school every morning makes it even worse. How can I overcome this problem?”
Christopher isn’t alone. More than a quarter of teenagers say they’ve been bullied in the last twelve months. That’s unacceptable. And that’s why we’ve dedicated this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast to sharing strategies that you can use to overcome bullying and prevent it happening in the future.

Happy New Year from everyone here at Unstoppable Teen!
This is the time of year when people traditionally set goals for the year ahead because it provides an ideal opportunity to put the past behind us and make positive decisions about the future.
These goals are often called New Year’s Resolutions. Sadly, lots of people quit at the things they said they wanted before they even reach the end of January. Indeed, many people don't even bother setting any goals in the first place.
This episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast is part one of a special mini series we’ve created to help you make this your best year ever. Kevin shares steps 1 to 4 of The Ultimate Youth Lifestyle strategy he wrote about in his new book.

It’s not every day you get to meet someone who’s been to Buckingham Palace to receive an award from Her Majesty The Queen. But that’s what happened when Kevin recently interviewed Kelly Lovell.
Kelly’s life story is quite remarkable. After being bullied in school she started her own business at the age of 19 with the intention of helping other young people get a great start in life.
Kelly went on to earn numerous accolades, including the QEII Diamond Jubilee medal and being listed as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women.
But how did she do it? And what can you learn from her that might help you achieve your goals? That’s what this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast is all about.

We all know how important friends and relationships are. They can be a great source of joy and happiness in our lives. But they can be a source of pain if we’re not equipped with effective communication skills.
Unfortunately, most teenagers don’t receive many lessons in school about this significant area of life. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons lots of people experience so many issues in their connections with others.
We recently received a message from Jenny in New South Wales who said she was feeling isolated and alone. That’s a common problem for lots of teenagers and that why we’ve dedicated this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast to sharing simple ideas you can use to build better friendships.

Kevin provides the answers to this question and identifies two critical things you must do if you want improve your health in this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast.

We live in a society where we have to purchase the things we want. Whether it’s food, clothes, a car, a home, a holiday, gift for family and friends… there is a price to be paid.
Of course, when we’re young, we rely on our parents, carers and the government to buy things for us. But there comes a time when you transition from childhood into adulthood that you need to start paying for things yourself.
You probably won’t be surprised to know that, “I want to be rich”, is the most common goal amongst teenagers. But how do you do that? How do you create a rich life for yourself?

Last week was Sexual Health Week, so after much discussion and deliberation, we decided to do an episode on this subject.
We know some people don’t want to discuss sex and teenagers. If that’s you, please don’t listen to this episode because we don’t want to offend anyone.
Many people start to explore their sexuality at some point during their teenage years. We start to become aware our attraction to others and begin thinking about having sex for the first time.
But how do you decided when to have sex or when not to have sex? And how can you keep yourself safe in this area of your life?
In this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast Kevin responds to a question from Kiera (Albany, NY). She told us that her boyfriend had been pressuring her to have sex, but she didn’t feel ready yet.
Listen now to hear what Kevin had to say on this important subject that affects us all.
“All to often teenagers start experimenting with sex before they have educated themselves in this important area of life – That’s dangerous.”
Kevin Mincher – Teen Coach
You will learn:
“Create an environment with your family and friends where you feel safe to talk about sex so you can educate yourself and empower yourself in this important area of life.”
Kevin Mincher – Teen Coach

Learning and remembering things are among the most important skills you will ever develop. That’s why Kevin was delighted to recently interview Michael Tipper.
Michael once won the silver medal in the World Memory Championships despite previously having a poor memory.
So how did he improve his memory so dramatically? And what learning strategies did he share that students can use to succeed in school? These are just two of the questions Kevin asked Michael in this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast.
Very few people are born with a natural ability to learn quickly and memorize lots of information. These are learned skills that anyone can master. Indeed, they are essential skills for any teenager who wants to achieve good grades and have a well-paid career.
Listen now if you want to boost your memory, reduce stress and achieve more of your potential!
“Why on Earth wasn’t I taught this way of learning when I was in school?”
Michael Tipper – Memory Expert
You will learn:
“If you think your results will come through your talents, you are completely mistaken because your results will come through your hard work.”

We live in a world where lots of pressure is put on students to achieve good grades. Thankfully, there’s a plethora of help for teenagers before tests and exams. You can get strategies for improving your reading speed, boosting your memory, and pretty much any other skill you need to succeed.
However, there’s a severe shortage support for teenagers after they’ve completed their tests and exams. There’s the tense wait for results day, and then what…?
What are you supposed to do if you get the grades you wanted? What can you do to optimize the benefits of your achievement?
And what’s the best way to respond if you don’t get the results you wanted? How can you quickly move beyond the disappointment and get yourself back on track for future success?
Kevin provides the answers in this important episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast.
“There’s always room for improvement.”
You will learn:
“Failure isn’t permanent – It’s an inevitable part of everyone’s journey to success.”

It’s early days for The Unstoppable Teen Podcast but we’ve got a fantastic guest for you today who normally charges a small fortune for his advice and guidance.
We all know that after we complete school, future jobs await. But how do you decide what you’re going to do? And how to you build a successful career?
These are two of the questions I asked Daniel Priestly because he helps millionaires, billionaires and celebrities take their success to the next level.
I first met Daniel at a conference earlier this year and I was impressed by what he had to say, so I was chuffed he took time out of his busy schedule to join me on a Skype call between business meetings while he was in London.
What I like about Daniel is that he’s a down-to-Earth normal guy even though he’s a three-time best-selling author and self-made millionaire.
Some questions I ask:
You will learn:
“It’s not the job of your school to make you successful. It’s their job to cover the basics so you’re ready for employment. And it’s you’re job as a young person, with all that energy and enthusiasm for your own life, to prepare yourself for the real world. If you want to be successful, that’s your job.”

In this episode of The Unstoppable Teen Podcast Kevin answers two listeners’ questions on a very important topic…
It’s almost inevitable that our first Q&A session would be focused on what you can do to build yourself self-confidence because teenagers have consistently asked us more questions about this area of life than anything else over the last two decades.
Low confidence was an issue Kevin struggled with during his own teen years, so he’s able to pass on the strategies he used to put his problems behind him and build the strong confidence levels you see today.
We hope you find this episode useful. Please continue to send us your questions via social media because we’ll answer them in future episodes.
“Never ever isolate yourself with any problem you experience. There are experts out there who want to help you.”
You will learn:
“Self-belief is the key that will open the door to your future success.”
