The Bible shows us in 1 Corinthians 14:15 that there are two distinct ways to pray! This scripture encourages us to pray with “our understanding” and with “the spirit.” Take a look for yourself:
“What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.” (1 Corinthians 14:15)

Have you ever found yourself wondering, “What 'on earth' is the Lord waiting for? Why hasn’t He come back yet?”
The answer may be more simple than you think: He’s waiting on the precious fruit of the earth (James 5:7)! You see, the fruit of the earth are people who will still come to Christ — and we know according to the Bible (see 2 Peter 3:9) that God’s not desiring that any should perish but that all would come to know Jesus!
It’s important for us to know that, just like the natural harvest cycle requires RAIN, the harvest of souls before Jesus can return also requires and waits for RAIN! Our responsibility is to PRAY for rain. But, what does that mean? And what is “the rain” when it comes to spiritual things?
Let’s look at the natural and spiritual rain cycles today and learn how we can partner with God to produce eternal fruit in prayer!

Here’s the thing…God likes it when we ask! He just does! Over and over in the Bible, we see encouragement to ASK for things in prayer — and we see guidelines for what and how to ask so that our requests are fulfilled and JOY is the result!
I know many times Christians have trouble with this one. We over-spiritualize things and think we should never ask God for anything…instead we should just be content with whatever we have in life. And while contentment is good, the Bible tells us over and over again to ASK!
So, let’s see what the Bible has to say about it in today’s message! My hope is to politely encourage you with this lesson to: get your ASK in gear! ;)

- Prayer gives us a way to enjoy fellowship with God.

- Prayer gives us a way to produce fruit for God.

The Bible talks about “the fight of faith.” Sometimes when we are experiencing sickness or receive a bad doctor’s report, our mind will be bombarded with negative thoughts while our body is experiencing physical symptoms. This is when it’s more important than ever to know deep down in our spirit what God has promised for our health. This is where faith comes in!

I love the fact that Jesus was a joyful person – and it turns out, He was the most joyful person of all! The Bible tells us because Jesus loved righteousness and despised evil, God anointed him with the oil of joy more than anyone else!
Here’s how The Passion Translation puts it, “…For this reason, God, your God, has anointed you and poured out the oil of bliss on you more than on any of your friends.” (Hebrews 1:9, TPT)
Here’s the best part. The joy Jesus had, He wants to give us! Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:11

Is God still speaking today? How do you discern whether “the voice” you hear within your heart is God speaking to you? Or just your own thoughts? Or worse, could it be the devil trying to whisper in your ear? The more time you spend with God and in His Word the more you will learn to recognize His voice!
You can "know" God's voice just as certainly as you "know" your mom or dad or spouse's voice when they call you on the phone! You don’t question their voice because you are so familiar with how they sound. It's the same with God!

You can get off the rollercoaster! You can live a consistent, stable, joyful, victorious Christian life by KNOWING God’s Word. There are a lot of amazing promises in the Bible, but if you don’t know them — in your head or in your heart — you’ll never get to experience them in your life. You’ve got to "KNOW IT!"

As Christians, we all find ourselves in positions of being both leaders and followers...it just depends on the dynamic, location, relationship, you name it. Sometimes we are expected to be a great leader and sometimes we are expected to be a great follower.
The apostle Paul gave us the strategy for how to be both a good follower and a good leader in one simple, but profound scripture when he said, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1)

You need a working knowledge of God’s Word! Yes — you do. And I do too. But sadly, too many Christians don’t know their Bibles and they are walking through life unequipped and unarmed to be effective for God’s kingdom. If you were a soldier, you would be well trained in your weaponry. If you were a farmer, you’d be well trained in your equipment. Likewise, we need to know God’s Word, our manual to live by! I hope you do!
“I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.” Psalms 119:15-16 NKJV

I’ve heard it said that “life and ministry would be really easy if it weren’t for people.” Anyone else with me on that?
But, here’s the thing: God loves people — in fact, the Church is all about people — and that’s why God sent His Son, Jesus to planet earth in the first place! So, if you and I want to be the most effective for the kingdom of God, we’ve got to walk in love and have good people skills. There’s really no way around it!
Today, we’re talking about 7 ways to improve your people skills:
- Ask God For Help
- Walk In Love Towards Others
- Be Interested In Others
- Speak Well Of Others
- Avoid Discord With Others
- Uproot Bitterness And Plant Forgiveness
- Don’t Be Easily Offended

Remember Judas and John from the Bible — two of Jesus’ most well-known disciples? They both spent loads of time with Jesus. They both witnessed miracles and experienced hours and hours of His teaching. They both sat at Jesus's table during the last supper, but their hearts towards their Leader were worlds apart.
John was a loyal follower. He esteemed the Lord. He did his best to follow his commands and live a life that would honor Jesus.
Judas was the opposite. He was a betrayer. He was skeptical and critical. He was a thief who was all about the money.
>> The main encouragement for today is this: be like John, not like Judas!
We live in a culture where everybody thinks they have the right to say anything they want about any leader, whether spiritually, politically, your boss, or anybody else. While you may have “the right” to do so, it’s not going to help you spiritually.
The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, “And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.”
We are to be like John and esteem our leaders. We are to honor their example, love them and pray for them. Why? So that we can be at peace amongst ourselves.
I promise you this: Judas was not at peace. In fact, he was so tormented after betraying Jesus that he took his own life. Even if it seems like it might “feel good” at the time to say something bad about your leaders or give them a piece of your mind, it will ultimately hurt you more than it will them.
At the end of the day, we want to be like John and not like Judas!

God has a plan for everything! He’s a God of order and structure, not disorder and chaos. And that’s especially true when it comes to His Church! His Church is most definitely not a "fly by the seat of your pants" operation. Yes, we're led by the Holy Spirit in our lives, but when it comes to building His church, God has a plan and a structure — especially as it relates to His “org chart.”
First, Jesus is the head of the Church and ultimate has authority over all things. He’s the boss and He calls the shots...and our response is, “Yes, Sir!”
Then, the Bible tells us in Ephesians 4 that God also established “ministry offices” for those who are His on-earth leaders of the Church. The 5 ministry offices include: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.
Curious how this all works? Today, we’re going to dig into the Bible and find out what has the Lord said about His plan and the way He structured His kingdom!
"For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them…." (Romans 12:4-6, NKJV)

Do you ever feel like your Christian life can get a little boring? I’m sure we’ve all been there, but the truth is -- it should be an incredible faith adventure with God! Just consider the gifts of the Spirit (outlined in 1 Corinthians 12) for example…
Jesus operated in all of the gifts of the Spirit during His time on earth and He was anything but boring. In fact, Jesus is our best example of what these incredible gifts actually look like in operation. And what’s amazing is that the Holy Spirit still gives you and me these same gifts today as He wills to build the Kingdom and bless others.
So how do we receive these gifts and what are they? The Bible tells us how to receive them: “Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.” (1 Corinthians 14:1)

There’s nothing more fulfilling than being in the center of God’s work of building His kingdom! The church is one of the most important “institutions” God ever established and you were designed to be a part of it. Discover how you're gifted to help Jesus build His church!
Your purpose will be connected to His cause—and Jesus is building His church—it’s the most important thing He is doing on planet Earth. When you recognize this (whether you’re a teacher, architect, stock broker, hair stylist, or preacher) and throw your gifts -- your heart, energy, wealth and time into helping His cause, you’ll experience more fulfillment than you thought possible!!
It’s not just pastors or missionaries who are called to do kingdom work—as a believer, you are called to further His cause too! Your “role” in life may be as an engineer, pilot, actor or grandparent, but your anointed purpose and gifts in that role are to further His cause and champion His church!

If you want to find your place in God’s kingdom, you need to cultivate a spirit of excellence! In fact, we see that an excellent spirit is what distinguished Daniel from among his peers in Daniel 5:14 when the king says to him: “I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.”
When others “hear” of you...are they seeing the Spirit of God inside you? Are they hearing that you are full of light, understanding and excellent wisdom just like Daniel was?
If you can’t answer “yes” just yet, that’s okay! No need to beat yourself up. Instead, let’s decide today that we are going to be men and women that reflect God with excellence in everything we do!
One of the most common enemies to excellence is haste. Sometimes we are in such a rush to get to the finish line and move on to the “next thing” that we get sloppy. Cultivating excellence might simply mean slowing down a bit and taking your time to ensure you are bringing glory to God in everything we do!
1 Corinthians 10:31 encourages us: So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Because if Daniel can do it, we can too!

We all have a desire to be great on the inside -- and according to Jesus -- there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, God Himself has put seeds of greatness on the inside of you!
Remember when the disciples were arguing over who would be the greatest among them? Jesus never rebuked them for having the desire to be great. Instead, He simply told them how to do it!
Never feel bad about being a Christian and also desiring to do great things or to live a great life. Just go about it God’s way: to be a servant of all.

We’re finally heading into a New Year...and all the people said: “Amen! Hallelujah! Thank you Jesus!” This might also mean you’re more committed than ever to discovering your God-given purpose and wanting to set up 2021 to be your best year yet.
If that’s true of you -- then maybe today is ACTUALLY the day to take your hands off the steering wheel and let Jesus take over. Maybe today is the day to “die” to yourself and choose to live for Him 100%.
The good news is...this is where great freedom comes! You can breathe a BIG sigh of relief because it means you don’t have to figure out your life, your purpose, your path or even your New Year’s resolutions on your own. You just need to be led by God and His Spirit!
In fact, this is your best bet for a successful, impactful and blessed 2021.

When Jesus humbled Himself and became a man, he laid a foundation for us (1 Corinthians 3:11). Now, as Christians, we get to decide how we build on it. Will our lives be built on eternal things (things that last)? Or will our lives be built on temporary things (things that don’t last)?
Christmas is a beautiful time of year to remember that Jesus came to earth for an eternal purpose -- and He has an eternal purpose for our lives too. But, it’s up to us to be intentional with the 60, 70, 80 or maybe 90 years we have on earth. We have to choose to walk in our God-given purpose and invest our lives in eternal things!
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus this week and look ahead in anticipation of the New Year, let’s remember to live for eternity and, one day, desire to hear those words, “well done, good and faithful servant!”

I know, it’s often easier said than done...especially when life throws every challenge in the book our way. And it’s no secret that this has been a challenging year, but it didn’t surprise God and it didn’t throw His plans for you off course.
So, let me encourage you today: Keep your eyes on Jesus and keep going.

I know, I know...most people cringe when they hear the word “obey.” It brings back memories of childhood or makes you think of a buzzkill, no fun situation. But, when you know God’s character and how much He LOVES us -- obeying Him is a no brainer! In fact, you might even “want to.”
Today, we’re breaking it down...how to obey God. Thankfully, it’s not as complicated as you might think (you can thank Jesus for that!). And, even when we mess up, our hearts are still clear before God because of the blood of Jesus (double thank You!!)

The Bible isn’t an old, outdated book written by a bunch of men way back in the day. The Bible is...God’s Word! It’s living and active. And -- it’s the primary way God speaks to us.
Yes, it’s true. The best way to hear from God is through His Word! God doesn’t always speak to us in an audible voice or with flashing highway billboard signs. The primary He speaks to us on the job, as parents or when making a decision is through His Word. Which means, it’s our responsibility to pick it up and read it if we want to hear from God!
I hope today’s episode will get you excited about picking up your Bible and seeing what God has to say to you!

Here’s the big takeaway for today’s episode: get in the habit of only saying and PRAYING what you believe. Yes...I gave the punchline away before you tuned in...but it’s so important and very few people have mastered this “basic” of how to pray in faith!
In order to pray in faith you have to know what you believe in your heart before you begin to speak or pray with your mouth. And, you should also endeavor to know what God’s WILL is on the matter so that you have an anchor for your faith!
That might mean you should take a pause before you jump into praying…
“Wait, Pastor Beth, are you telling me to not pray right away?”
Yes! I’m encouraging you to know what you can believe for based on God’s Word -- the Bible -- before you jump into hasty and faithless prayers. Let’s talk about it!

Have you ever lost a child in a store? Or have you ever misplaced your purse or wallet that contained a bunch of cash and all of your important cards? You don’t just casually browse around “hoping” to find it -- NO! You search high and low, you run, you look everywhere and you don’t stop until you find what you’re looking for.
Here’s a basic thought for today...What if we were to seek after God in this same way? With this same sense of urgency? What would be the result?
The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:13 (just a couple of verses after that famous passage)...that, “If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”
Maybe the Lord has felt distant or far off to you lately. Let’s talk about it and discover who, when, why and how the Lord reveals Himself today in our Basics Tuesdays Bible study!

Who is God? Who is Jesus? Who is the Holy Spirit -- and how do they all work together? Is there one God -- or three? Maybe you’ve heard the terms “trinity” or “godhead” before, but aren’t really sure what that means or how to interact with God in your own life…
This is what today’s Bible study is all about. After all, if we want to have a relationship with “God” -- then we should probably start by knowing who God is, right!?
Today, we’ll dig into the Bible and see how it describes God -- as one God, but three persons. (Here’s a basic tip: it may help to think about it conceptually like you would these examples...one family, many members or one team, many players).
And, we’ll discover how you can get to know God as your Heavenly Father, Jesus as the Son of God and the Holy Spirit -- your helper and your guide in life! Yes -- you can KNOW God and have a real relationship with Him. Your heart is going to be so happy when these dots “connect!”

What do you do when God feels a million miles away? What do you do when the enemy discourages you about your salvation? Or when thoughts sneak in like, “You didn’t really pray that prayer.” or “You’ve messed up so many times.” or “You’re not a good Christian like so-and-so…”
God doesn’t want you living in uncertainty or anxiety when it comes to your salvation or eternal destination. Quite the opposite really! In 1 John 5, the Bible gives us the litmus test of whether or not we have eternal life and then says, “I’ve written these things that you may KNOW you have eternal life…”
Did you catch that? Not hope, not wonder, not guess...that you may KNOW!
If you’ve ever had doubts about whether you are going to Heaven or whether you are really born again or “saved,” this message is for you! After these 20+ minutes together studying the Bible, you will gain a fresh confidence in your salvation -- based on God’s Word -- not based on doubts or feelings.
Plus, I’ll tell you about the “train analogy” that has helped me so many times throughout my Christian life when I’ve experienced doubts or fears or concerns on any topic. I know it will help you too!

Many years ago, I received a letter from my cousin asking, “Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Why the gory, bloody details?” Wow. It was such a good question -- and such an honest question. Maybe you’ve had that same question, too.
Well, I knew God had a reason for it -- after all He doesn’t make mistakes and He knows everything -- but I wanted to make sure I could explain it accurately to her...and understand it for myself!

We’re covering the topic today of “How do I become a Christian?” Here’s a little spoiler alert...it’s NOT by being born in America, it’s NOT by being raised in the church, it’s NOT by being a good person and it’s NOT about what your parents or family believes.
To become a Christian, it’s all about Jesus.

The world has gone mad. It’s evident when you look at current events globally through the eyes of mainstream media and social media platforms.
