There's always a reason to go, to change. Sometimes it's best to stay the course. Cutter Gauthier provided an example of a lack of loyalty in forcing the Flyers organization to trade him. The trick with loyalty is knowing when to stay in order to maximize your possibility for growth.

Welcome to this 1st time interview edition with Carter and Steve from Xenopucks.
I've talked Xenopucks before, because it's the best off ice puck I've used, and it moves on every surface. This time we've got the guys themselves, Carter and Steve, the two driving forces for Xenopucks answering all the questions I've got. We dive into how they got started, tips for using them, practice tactics, who might benefit the most from using the pucks, and some fun hockey talk mixed in there too.
If you want to check out the pucks head to the website here and check out the socials with Instagram , Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube! You'll find plenty of ways to contact them there.

Along with that we'll be opening some NHL Pro Set cards from the 91-92 run, and drinking The Grove, a citrus shandy from Cape May Brewing Co.

The Sixers found their man in Nick Nurse. Good start right? Speaking of starts, Danny Briere and Keith Jones made their first big move, in a multi team-multi player deal sending Ivan Provorov packing. They also have an important draft coming up and I take a look at two of the safer options for the Flyers to pick, plus the Phillies are in bounce back mode. Finally we've got product reviews and a brief tease of new!? ideas.
The cards this week come from Colt Collectibles, located in Peddler's Village, and the beer from Ship Bottom Brewery.

The Sixers have brought the blues to the Philadelphia sports scene. Their Game 7 loss in the 2nd round of the NBA playoffs brought disappointment, and a quick firing of Doc Rivers. The Flyers though did their best to start their own journey of rebirth, bringing in new management with Keith Jones as President of Hockey Operations, and Danny Briere as GM.
The beer of the week is Violet, You're Turning Violet! a farmhouse ale from Eight & Sand Beer Company featuring blueberry and lemons, a great combo in both pancakes and beer. Plus if we're having a beer, why not open some cards. Some of the best of '91 in the O-Pee-Chee baseball collection!

A classic 4 for 4 rundown on this episode! The Eagles are trying to rebuild a Super Bowl team after coming up just short. Who is staying, who is going and are they poised to repeat? The Phillies might be in for a hot start thanks to their 8 players in the World Baseball Classic, but will that impact the dog days? The Sixers are playing like they're gunning for a #1 seed and Joel Embiid is playing like and MVP. Will they follow championship suit? Finally the Flyers are playing down to the level of a bottom feeder team. Chuck Fletcher is out and Danny Briere is in. Have they finally set the team into a rebuild, or is this a temporary fix?
The beer of the episode is from Magnify Brewing Company. Appropriately we have the Shamrock Shake, a smoothie sour with lactose conditioned on vanilla ice cream, pandan vanilla, and peppermint. Also it's BRIGHT green. The pack of the day is a Fleer 93-94 PowerPlay Series 2. This set had crazy dimensions and lots of fun international pulls.

The Birds are back in the Bowl! The Philadelphia Eagles facing the Kansas City Chiefs, and Matt runs through far too many prop bets. Plus NBA trade deadline for the Sixers, and checking in the Flyers post all star break. The Phillies made a move just to show they have a heartbeat, but it's February. Baseball is sleeping. However some '91 O'Pee-Chee baseball cards are finally out of their pack!

Had to do a quick run around the Philly sports scene in this one. The Eagles were doing fantastic things, but are they truly an elite team? Time is really needed to tell, based on the schedule ahead. The Phillies are prime candidates for a collapse, but good leadership from the Big 3 (Schwarber, Harper, and Realmuto) are going to be the arbiters of making sure that doesn't happen. The Flyers also are watching their season flounder away, and it hasn't even started.
We're getting back to the Panini Diamond Kings Box, and seeing the cards lean retro. Beer of the week is from Marlowe Artisanal Ales, brewed in collaboration with Coles Road Brewing. It's a double IPA brewed with Citra hops, honey, and wild yeast picked off a flower. That's just fun and since I'm on a science kick.

Even though it is the summer, there has been a lot of drama in Flyers-land. From moves made, to moves not made, a new coach, and the 2022 NHL draft, the feeling of change seems to be hanging in the air for the team. Matt breaks down what he's seeing and feeling and why he's hesitantly optimistic for the future, but not this season.
In openings, we're still knocking off our 2022 Panini Diamond Kings box and cards as "art" which this box and style very much favors.
For the beer of the show, we've got last year's Mad Elf variety from Troegs. A yearly holiday favorite, it also it a beer that is frequently collected to age for some drinkers, so we're taking a pop after 8 months of sitting, for a small Christmas in July celebration.

The hobby of card collecting and sport of baseball is well written about. Over the last month Matt has dove headfirst into some light reading about both subjects and figured it was time to talk about it. We've got three books about cards, the hobby, and the evolution into a business, and two on the wonder of baseball, with one through pitching and the other being one of the most well known baseball novels ever. The Flyers are totally out of the playoffs, so Matt reviews what they need to do in order to get back to the playoffs. He's power ranking the positions they need to focus on, outside of hiring a new coach. Plus he stresses how this is the best time to introduce anyone to hockey, even those who have never liked it. Then we're got Good Game, a common post game phrase, and also a cream ale from Axe and Arrow that has orange and vanilla that benefits local little league. The NHL playoff format is out! The NBA has set up its return in Disney! Those are the two happy topics of the day. The other is addressing the protests and hopefully that in the end peace and goodness will win out. I also talk about one of my favorite pieces of sports memorabilia and to wash it all down is another attractive can. Ship Bottom Brewery brings the fruit with their Blueberry Bikini Bottom Wheat Ale.

It's a tough day. Minor league baseball seems like it's on the way out. The American pastime seems like its really going through it and might not ever be the same. Beer is the only cure. Today's healing elixir comes from Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing Co. Lady #6 is a flirty Summer Wit with a bonus ginger and cucumber zing to it. To help that flush out the bad, we've got good boxing news and the card of the week, and details about how Scott Rolen was the first man to break my heart.

Vamanos! Cinco de Mayo has come and gone, and what should've come was a Canelo Alvarez boxing bout. It didn't so Matt talks about what it is like to watch him and other Mexican boxing legends throw down on the holiday. He also does a full breakdown of UFC 249 and talks a throwback Bernie Parent card that's more art than sport.
All of this leads up to the beer review for the Flying Dog Numero Uno Mexican lager. Agave nectar and lemon zest combine in this craft version of the classic light cerveza.

It didn't snow this winter. It gave Evil Twin Brewing a beer name for their watermelon, salt and vanilla gose. I review that after discussing my prized Ichiro rookie card and my recent McGwire find. I also memorialize one of my heroes. It has been 11 years since Harry Kalas passed and I discuss how he helped me love baseball, gave me some fantastic memories and that plays into the Maratea family love of baseball. I didn't cry. Plus we get into the sports cards business. It was en fuego and now it has totally stopped. What will happen, and why I collect. Sports are still gone! Thankfully the Eagles make some moves and so did the Flyers so I've got that to talk about. I also bemoan the lack of an Opening Day in baseball, and when I'm done waxing nostalgic I get into the beer review. This week it is Croydon Cream Ale From Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company. I also go over my philosophy on how to try and approach and evaluate breweries in some cases.

So, thanks to COVID-19 sports are gone. Thankfully the NFL is at least throwing money at people so there is an Eagles move to talk about in between sips of Conshohocken Brewing Company's Smoke Biere de Garde "Ashy Slashy" and talk of the list of sports movies I hope to watch during this time of desperate need for content.
