Words from Genisis: I am a professional who now knows what my purpose in life is. It is not to sit down, muzzle my mouth, and continually let people get over on me. I know my worth and it's time to speak up, activate my faith, and walk into my destiny that God has in my life. I encourage you to take a leap of faith and get out of your comfort zone. If you are wondering what you should do next well take a step back and write down all the things you are good at. Out of those things which bring you joy, fulfillment, and you can ultimately see yourself making a change not just in your life but in your community and beyond. Then formulate a plan on how you can do those things and still bring in revenue because times are changing and one thing is for sure these jobs can come and go, but your empire and the legacy you build will ALWAYS be in existence as long as you have the right foundation and continue to cultivate it. You too can be all the things you ever imagined so stop limiting yourself by the things people say you cannot do or the limitations that have been placed on you

We are excited to have Vanessa with us as she shares her story. Vanessa comes from Chicago and she fights to help women break barriers. Through her story, Vanessa points out important issues saying that whatever you are going through is temporary and it’s up to you to learn how to overcome.
Raised by a single mother, Vanessa has researched more about forgiveness and healing as she needed it for her to break the generational cycle of bad vibes that ran in her family. She wanted to make things better for her and her children. She wanted to choose a better partner who was different compared to what she had as a father. Learning that without so doing she was headed the same road as her mother with a history of dating men who were just like father and lead her to doing things like a mother did, she yearned for the change.
Vanessa points out that practicing forgiveness is usually an inside job for you as the forgiver as it helps you more than the person you forgive since the same things you are trying to deal with may come up later in your life. Vanessa talks about her relationship wither her mother and how it was on the verge of destroying her. She says that it was clear that her mother lost her voice a long time ago and when it was time for her to release her frustrations she dumped all of them to the closest person she could find.
She also says there is beauty in communication and it contributes so much to healing. The moment she realized that she had a message to put across, she found her voice and was more transparent about things that bothered her. She also speaks about discrimination of people of color and how helpful speaking up is to coming generations. She urges everyone to go to work and break the barriers because if not broken they will end up breaking you. It is possible to take that turn that nobody wants to: that one thing that you can do that will help generations and generations after.

On this episode of the Janelle show, I got a chance to interview Alicia May who lives and works in Canada as she shares her personal and business life with us. Alicia begins by sharing her scary experience during childbirth where she broke her pelvis and had to stay in the hospital for a very long time until she fully recuperated. During that time, she had to hire someone who helped her around the house as she had a family to raise as well as her condition could not let her do much. The only way she knew how to help herself was to dip her hands in her savings.
Alicia opens up how she manages her family with two kids and her business without being overwhelmed since technically she is alone most of the time as her husband is away all week working. She keeps her to do lists and delegates tasks on a weekly basis and she makes sure each day she has five things to do. This helps her avoid anxiety on her part and her to do lists match her potential in accomplishing her set target. She also keeps both a personal and business to do list which she says works for her perfectly well.
Alicia opens up on how she deals with all that pressure emotionally and she excitedly says that she loves her space. When her husband is away, she dives into her work more for she is accountable for almost everything in the household. She describes their marriage as a perfect one as she has a relaxed, easy-going way of living. She lives her life by focusing on the bigger picture whereby everything has to get done.
Alicia narrates to us a negligence story on her nannies part when she receives a text of her one-year-old son missing for as long as twenty minutes. Clearly, it was scary for her to imagine and she says how she panicked as she drove back home. The boy was found finally and like any other employer, she fired the help for negligence. She says it is the worst feeling in her life as she takes her children’s safety very crucial in her life.
Alicia also gives us a little insight into her business as an event strategist. She got the idea of creating her business online and she says that the first clients she had were from people she connected within the course of her everyday work routine. She mentions that anything to do with her marketing has been all about trial and error. Her major marketing platforms being Facebook and Pinterest. Her advice to people starting online businesses is that ‘If you are everywhere, you can’t be anywhere’. Choose a place and invest in it.
Alicia says that in her job as an events strategists, there is nothing like one size fits all. All events are different and she treats them so and people love that about her work. She is a dedicated blogger.
You can get more details about Alicia’s story by listening to our podcast.

In this episode of The Janelle Show, we interview Kim Harris ‘The Legacy creator’. Kim is an amazingly talented woman, who describes her childhood as challenging as well as her teenage years. She opens up about how she was assaulted at the young age of five years and how it affected her growing up.
Kim has had a share of bad times in her adult years when she lost all she had acquired, her house, cars and she was literally left with nothing being forced to sleep on her friend’s couches and sometimes in her car. In the course of all that, she was in deep debt and that is when she discovered what she lacked in her life. She failed to understand how to love herself and once she figured it out, she learned how to enjoy being in the moment.
She talks about hatred and forgiveness and how she found peace in healing from her trauma that took the better part of her life. Kim shares with us her tips on healing and self-love. She touches on finding that place of peace from within which she relates with her belief in God who dwells in her spirit.
She goes deep on how she managed to pull through all her misfortunes and her taking control of her life spiritually, financially and all way round for the benefit of her and her future generations. She finishes her story by mentioning her business which is all about helping people to master their money game and being financially capable and using the skills to build a legacy.

On today’s episode of the Janelle Show we have Shahidahwho shares her journey with us on the black girls learn languages. Growing up in Germany pre-exposed her to becoming multilingual and she has been on the lookout for people who like her who are enthusiastic about learning languages. This drive led to her coming up with a community of ladies who she has also interviewed. One of those ladies talked about indigenous languages and another a Latina who she says the more she interacted with them the more she felt like she knew them.
Shahidah says that she is set out to accomplish a goal and apart from the black girls learn languages, she talks about grief as she lost her mum who played quite a significant role in her life. She says grief comes in phases whereby some days are good and others are bad although she’s managed to work through them all.
She also takes us through her life and talks about how she appreciated the growth in her time of grief. Before she was the type of human who admired being the bigger person but unfortunately, the growth doesn’t allow that anymore and it feels like she’s rubbing people the wrong way. Shahidah confesses that she no longer takes ownership of anything she says just because the recipient feels sensitive about it or it feels offensive.
She describes herself as a frank and an open person who is very aware of what she feels and why she does what she does which feels like a major shift to other people. She focuses on sensitivity as being part of her growing up and clearly says that it’s impossible for anyone to tell people how they want to be treated when they don’t really know themselves.
During her mum’s funeral, she says that with people you don’t always know what to expect when her high school friend who she would never expect to be there showed up to offer support. It was overwhelming to think about and she touches on evaluating people who are really there for you. With people, she mentions that it’s your work as an individual to evaluate what kind of energy to allow which means evaluating your circle, triggers and how you as a person feel around people.
After her mother passed on, Shahidah attended grief therapy sessions which she says were quite helpful to her as it felt like listening to someone and everything they said resonated with her life. She as well adds that there is no new problem in the world but the only difference is that the problems take up different shapes and forms.
She says that we become what we constantly say to ourselves since as human beings we tend to speak into our own existence. It is also clear when she says that we shouldn’t let our insecurities weigh us down. Shahidah also shares what she was able to learn in life as she points out that everyone has to figure out who they are first, where they have come from, where they are headed and what it takes for them to get there.
In conclusion she also mention how forgiveness matters even for the deceased people. She says that the last years before her mother’s death they enjoyed quite a heathy relationship and the
more she focused on healing from the past she found closure. It is also clear that sometimes when people do us wrong they don’t even realize.
For more details about Shahidah’s story you can listen to our podcast.
