1 Peter 5:8-11
Whether we believe it or not. Whether we like it or not. We are in a battle for our lives. The spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places are at war with us as children of God. Their objective is to steal, kill, and destroy all God has planned for us.
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of seeing God’s people lose. I hate seeing the enemy steal, kill and destroy the lives of believers through his deceptive and conniving schemes. It’s time for us to take up the armor God has provided us and battle our adversary so we can experience the victory the Christ died for.
This Sunday, we will expose our enemies schemes and learn how to fight the way God has called us to fight!
1 Peter 5:8
Satan. At one time, a majority of Christians believed in the existence of a literal spiritual enemy called Satan. My, how times have changed! According to a 2009 Barna Research poll,
“Four out of ten Christians (40%) strongly agreed that Satan “is not a living being but is a symbol of evil.” An additional two out of ten Christians (19%) said they “agree somewhat” with that perspective. Only a minority of Christians (26%) indicated that they believe Satan is real.
Here is the problem: If only 26% of Christians believe that Satan is a literal being, then the Church, the Body of Christ, is more vulnerable today than ever before. I also wonder, of the 26% that claim to believe in a living being called Satan, how many truly believe he is working against them in their life? I’m guessing that is an even smaller percentage.
What about you? Do you believe there is a literal spiritual enemy at work right now in our world? Do you believe he is at work against you? How would you know if he were? We will look to answer these questions and others this Sunday as we look at 1 Peter 5:8 and see how Danger is Lurking, whether we believe it or not.
1 Peter 5:6-7
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, “An estimated 31.1% of U.S. adults experience an anxiety disorder at some time in their lives.” I do not know about you, but I am in this 31.1% of American adults. Whether you would consider your anxiety a “disorder” or not, the truth is, everyone experiences what the Bible calls anxiety, worry, or cares.
Jesus addressed the worries of this life and gave us His solution. Peter also addresses our “cares” or “anxieties” and gives us God’s answer for them. If you or someone you know struggles with anxiety, this Sunday would be a great time for them to come and hear what the Master Physician Jesus has to say about one of the most prevalent maladies of our day.
1 Peter 5:1-5
In everything God has designed there is order. Whether it’s the family structure, societies, or the church, God has a brilliant design for each in order to carry out His plan for the ages. How the church is structured and operating from that structure accurately ensures the proper function and effectiveness of the church. This Sunday, we will look at 1 Peter 5:1-5 and see how God has designed the church to function in order to carry out His plan for reaching the world for Christ.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Life is a race we all run. The question followers of Jesus need to ask themselves each day is, “Am I running the race God set for me?” If we are not focused on running the race God set before us, we are still running, but we are running in vain. Thank God the race He set before us is not a sprint (I intentionally avoid running fast at my age), but a marathon. He has also given us everything we need to run and to run successfully. They key is do we still want to run or have we stopped?
This Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday, we will take a break from 1 Peter and look at one of the many athletic analogies Paul uses to remind us who we’re running for, why we’re running, and how to finish our race well.
1 Peter 4:12-19
Suffering. It’s a part of everyone’s life. But how we view and respond to suffering can make all the difference when it comes to following Jesus in life. If we see our suffering as an unwanted inconvenience that must simply endure until life returns to “normal”, then our suffering will have no real value and life will lose its luster. However, if we view our suffering as a divine opportunity to transform our character and behavior, then we will begin to embrace, even rejoice when we experience hardships. Our perspective makes all the difference.
1 Peter 4:4-11
As a people whose lives have been radically changed by Jesus Christ, our values and lifestyle become increasingly different than those of the world. The more we grow in understanding of God’s plan for us as Christians, it seems the world gets darker every day. The temptation then for us is to look at the world around us and judge or condemn them for their ungodly behaviors.
But that is not our prerogative, it’s God’s. This Sunday, we will discover Peter’s approach to living life as an Alien in a strange land. In essence, the message is “Mind Your Own Business.”
1 Peter 4:1-6
What does it mean to fervently follow Jesus? This Sunday, we will dive back into our study of 1 Peter beginning in chapter 4. In this chapter Peter challenges his readers to consider their former lives of living according to the flesh and to make a decision to stop dabbling in their old lifestyle of self-will and start living instead for God’s will.

What am opportunity we have this Sunday to worship our Messiah on the day we celebrate His birth! Join us Christmas morning as we discover what the angels announced that first Christmas morning, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill towards men.”
Isaiah 9:6
I imagine that many of us will sit around the Christmas tree this year and open gifts from our family and friends. Oftentimes, the gifts we give and receive only bring joy and excitement for a time. Actually, some gifts may even be returned because we see no real value in them. Not so with Jesus, God’s gift to the world! When a person receives Jesus as a gift from God, they not only receive eternal life in Heaven, but they receive everything they need for life on earth. Jesus the, is the gift that keeps on giving. This Sunday, we will look at Isaiah 9:6 and see four ways Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving.
Revelation 4:11
Every Christmas season people all over the country give gifts to their friends and loved ones. So much research, planning, time and money go into getting the perfect gift for those we love. But, isn’t Christmas Jesus’ birthday? Should we not consider what gifts Jesus might love to receive from us on His birthday? This Sunday, we will look at Revelation four and see three gifts that Jesus would love to receive from His followers.
1 Peter 3:18-22
What does living out our faith as a believer look like today? In what ways will people identify us as a follower of Jesus? Would anyone know we were a follower of Jesus by observing our life? Living a life of growing faith in an ever increasing hostile world is not only important but imperative. Jesus calls us as His followers to stand up and be counted and to not shrink away when hardships come. This Sunday, we will explore 1 Peter 3:18-22 and see what it means to live a life of growing faith in the midst of a hostile world.

1 Corinthians 15:50-58
God tells us through the Apostle Paul, “Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be firm, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” Living out our faith is work. It’s labor. It’s actually hard work that doesn’t end until we meet our Master. This can be discouraging to hear at times as we consider the amount of work that needs to be done and how long we’ve been working. But God gives us this reminder that our labor is never in vain in the Lord. This Sunday, we will look at why we labor for the Lord and how we can get busy investing in things that matter.
If grace is an unearned and undeserved endless gift of God, what’s the believers motivation for godly living? Why not just live for ourselves and receive that endless grace? This Sunday, we’ll continue our study on the Gospel of Grace and find out why grace is a stewardship.
The Gospel of Grace
What is so amazing about grace? This Sunday we will discover the message of the Gospel of Grace that continues to save the lost and motive the saved. This would be a great time to invite someone who is need of a heavy dose of God’s amazing grace.
John 1:1-9
We are inundated with messages on a daily basis. Text messages alert us to the questions and needs of friends and loved ones. Emails notify us of something that needs our attention. Phone applications signal the delivery of packages or even the evening meal at our door.
With all the messages we receive from day to day, what is the one message we should most anticipate? What is the one message the world needs to hear most? This Sunday, we will continue our series 1 Man 1 Message 1 Mission and explore the 1 Message we all need to hear most.
2 Corinthians 5:9-10
Most people embrace the idea of Jesus as a Savior. Less people like the idea of Jesus as Lord and King. Almost no one likes to talk about Jesus as a Judge! Yet, that is exactly who He is and His role as judge plays an absolutely critical part in living out our present Christian life. This Sunday, we will explore what it means that Jesus is our judge, and how we can prepare now to meet Him as such.
Matthew 6:19-33
Jesus asked His disciples, “But who do you yourselves say that I am?” That’s a good question for all of us who claim to be followers of Jesus. This Sunday we will look at Christ Jesus the King. Not just “the” King, but our King. Sure, Jesus rules the world, and He is sovereign over the universe, but does He rule our hearts and lives?
The most influential and controversial person of history is Jesus Christ. There’s rarely a place on the planet where His name is not known. Yet, even His closest followers knew very little about Him. Is Jesus still the most influential person in history? Is He still Lord of the Church? Is He still sovereign over the universe? Is He still the most influential person in your life? How we understand and relate to Jesus Christ directs every aspect of our lives. This Sunday, we will look at the One Man who desires to be the most influential person in our lives and church.

This Christmas season our nation faces deep divisions. The causes vary from how to handle the virus to how to handle abortion to how to handle our history to how to handle our economic structure going forward. These issues can cause strong emotions and disagreements even among believers. Perhaps during the season we celebrate the birth of our Savior we need to be sure our perspective aligns with God’s. We can learn a thing or two from Jonah.
