This is my entry into the Cymatics 2022 Melody Beat Contest. They allow artists to download a sample of their melody collection and try create a beat from their loops.
The reverse tracks inspired me to think about memories and try to create a track that felt like it had a journey back in time wandering back and forth through happy times and sad times. Pauses for reflection and moments of fun and joy.
Apart from the drums and a single guitar track, I exclusively used the Cymatics Melody Beta Pack 2022. This is my first time using cubasis, updating from logic pro 9 on an old mac to learning production on an iPad. I time stretched, transposed and assigned instruments to the midi tracks. I thickened everything up with AudioKit reverb and a tape cassette effect.
As an amateur singer/songwriter, I don’t usually go for the loop style and usually prefer to record live instruments, but Cymatics made it easy to play with these loops and it was an enjoyable experience to broaden my scope and find some new musical inspiration.
I find that the Lord's prayer becomes a little stale, not because it isn't powerful and meaningful, but because we get too used to it. The words are too easy to just waft past and not really consider with depth. I spent some time paraphrasing it in order to rediscover it. The Lyrics of this song are:
Compassionate carer in heaven, You are one of a kind. Be the Ruler of our world, the same way you rule heaven.
Satisfy our hunger. Meet our daily needs. Don't give us what we want, help us to want what You give.
Forgive us our pettiness, mistakes, mess-ups and bitterness, stubborn argumentativeness as we forgive those who hurt us, our world and people we love.

i'm learning cello, so this was a chance for me to have a jam and see what I could do with overlaying tracks. All the instruments in this track are real and I play them all.
