Saturday is grand final day for the two-year olds with the running of the Amelia Park – Karrakatta Plate (1200m). Amelia’s Jewel is obviously the omen bet, racing for the sponsor Peter Walsh, the Siyouni filly is unbeaten in two starts and appeals as the best horse in the race. The setback is the draw. She is likely to start from barrier 15 and will need every ounce of luck on her side from the awkward draw. If there is to be an upset, then there is plenty of value about. Street Parade ($11), Left The Building ($8), Capricorn Man ($14) and Kosta’s Crown ($20) all look capable of upsetting the short-priced favourite. Earlier on the program Otheroneson (Race 3 $2.00) and How’s The Serenity (Race 6 $2.15) look awfully hard to beat in their respective events.

The staying prowess of the three-year old’s is on display today at Ascot with the running of the City of Belmont – W.A. Oaks (2400m) and the Schweppes – Melvista Stakes (2200m). In the Oaks, Constant Dreaming has the best form when assessing the fillies. She has won the Ascot 1000 Guineas and the Natasha Stakes at her past two starts and is a red-hot favourite to make it three on the trot. Outside of the favourite, the race appears wide open. The colts and geldings staying test looks a bit more open however Alaskan God has tongues wagging. He has won three starts back from a spell and just keeps on improving. Trix of the Trade, Rokanori, Henchard and Pale Rider cannot be dismissed. The support card does have some interesting races. It is a quality card of racing.

Last Saturday it was the three-year olds on centre stage, this Saturday it is the two-year olds. The Furphy – Gimcrack Stakes has a short- priced favourite in Amelia’s Jewel, who was highly impressive in the Supremacy Stakes a fortnight back. The filly has drawn awkwardly in a bigger field however punters have her as a dominant market leader. Her rivals all appear to be evenly matched. It should be an exciting affair. The Perth Stakes, for the colts and geldings, is a much more even affair with the debutante Givemeonereason heading the TABtouch market. Snowdome, Man Crush, Saintorio, Street Parade and the highly promising Left the Building will all have serious claims. The meeting gets under way at 12.23pm with the final race at 5.40pm. The meeting at Ascot on Saturday recognizes the 1975 Railway Stakes winner in Detonator. This year’s running of the Detonator features a capacity line up with punters facing up to a very wide-open betting medium. Many horses are resuming, and the form lines are somewhat disjointed. It promises to be a fantastic edition. As at midday Friday the shortest priced favourites on the day were My Baby Blue Jean (Race 4 @ $2.05) and Spin the Knife (Race 2 @ $2.50) which shows there is a bit of value to be found on the day. Join Darren McAullay, Scott Embry, and Digby Beacham as they find the winners on the nine-event card of racing when Inside Running hits the airwaves just after 8 o’clock on Saturday morning.
