At Riverhead Beach in Marblehead, Wendall Waters and Chris Stevens were treated to a fly-fishing demonstration by Jenny Tatelman of FlyandFlow, a local business that takes anglers on trips both locally and around the world. They learn about fish, flies, and the art of fly-fishing.
Is your favorite childhood place for exploring nature still there? Or, has it been developed? Join Wendall and Chris on an audio tour of a former missile site in Boxford State Forest with Police Chief James Riter, who recalls going there as a kid swimming in the quarries and looking for snapping turtles. Once bare, the site is now teeming with wildlife.
In "Jaws" and "Finding Nemo," the shark is the villain. As Maryanne Long of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy explains during a presentation at Marblehead Charter School, not only are great white sharks and other sharks not the bad guys in real life, but they're also important for the health of our oceans.
Listen to the spirited debate that took place at Topsfield Town Meeting about the proposed ban on the use of elephants, big cats, and other exotic animals for entertainment. Arguments for and against were presented.
A citizen petition in Topsfield asks voters to prohibit the use of elephants and other exotic animals as entertainment. Martha Sanders, who brought the petition forward, tells Wendall in the Wild co-host Wendall Waters how the traveling show industry is cruel to exotic animals and why she thinks it's time to stop the practice.
Pike Messenger has been visiting vernal pools for, literally, decades. Listen as Pike, along with Wendall in the Wild co-hosts Wendall Waters and Chris Stevens, takes you on a trip to visit some local pools that are very important territory for wood frogs, salamanders, dragonfly larvae, and lots of other wildlife.
Wendall recorded the sound of a crow running through an array of calls. She filtered out the background noise and deleted some of the silent stretches. The crow makes the traditional calls but also clicks, bugling and other sounds.
