Dr. A. J. Swoboda (Ph.D., Birmingham) is Associate Professor of Bible and Theology at Bushnell University. For nearly ten years, he served as a college pastor on the campus of the University of Oregon. Then, for another decade, he planted and pastored an urban church in Portland, Oregon, called Theophilus which continues to worship to this day. He leads a Doctor of Ministry program around Spiritual Formation and Soul Care at Friends University. His visit is funded by an endowment from the Thomas F. Staley Foundation.

Dr. D.J. Coleman serves as Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at Indiana Wesleyan University. Driven by a desire to minister with excellence, he has served in diverse pastoral roles, including children's ministry, student ministry, refugee ministry, prison ministry, and special needs ministry.

Candace Coker
Candace Coker is a Trinidad-born Christian folk singer/songwriter, certified Christian life coach and lover of Jesus who began writing songs at an early age. Her songs explore themes of hope, healing, courage, love, and intimacy with God. Coker released her 10-track debut album, Bare and Bones, in February 2023, which impacted listeners all over the globe. Her passion is to see others encounter the love, peace and healing of God through music.

Rev. Ashley Mathews is the lead pastor of Christ the King Anglican Church in Springdale, Arkansas, and was featured in 2019 as a Q Ideas conference speaker. She and her husband recently moved to Northwest Arkansas from Atlanta where she served in pastoral ministry for fifteen years. Ashley has an M.Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary, and was ordained in the Anglican Church in 2014 when she planted Immanuel Anglican Church in Decatur, Georgia.

Cokiesha Bailey Robinson
Rev. Cokiesha Bailey Robinson is the founder of Cross Spring Ministries, an itinerant ministry of preaching and publishing, and she is the first African American dean at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. She is a national conference speaker, Christian minister, pastoral leader and national speaker in higher education. She is a Master of Divinity graduate of Beeson Divinity School, and a current doctoral student at Truett Seminary at Baylor University.

Corey Carey is Graduate and Online Admissions Representative at JBU. Corey and his wife Tiffany served as the 2022-2023 Missionaries in Residence and served overseas as dorm parents and teachers at Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya, from 2012 to 2022.

Dr. Catherine McDowell is Associate Professor of Old Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where she has taught since 2011. After two masters degrees at Gordon-Conwell, she went on to Harvard University where she completed an MA and a PhD in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. She has also worked as a field excavator with five different excavations in Israel including Ashkelon, Caesarea Maritima, and Tel Beth Shan.

Andrea Martinez, a 2004 JBU grad, is an immigration lawyer and the owner of Martinez Immigration Law, LLC, in Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to entering private practice, she served as a federal judicial law clerk at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C., and also worked for nine months in Guatemala assisting in the prosecution of child sex offenders with the non-profit organization, International Justice Mission. Andrea received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in 2007.
Marco Reyes is Senior Director for Sustainability for Walmart, leading efforts to accelerate social and environmental sustainability across its supply chain with responsibility for all non-food product categories. A Guatemalan native, Marco graduated from JBU with a degree in Building Construction Technology and International Business in 2003 and an MBA in 2008. Marco is joining the JBU Board of Trustees this fall.

Justin Bilson
Justin Bilson serves as one of the lead teaching pastors at Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Fellowship is "one church in six locations" through Central Arkansas with a mission to make disciples who live by God’s grace and for His glory at home and across the world. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Elon University and a Master of Divinity degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Justin has been a communicator and shepherd in the local church for more than two decades, and he also serves as a conference speaker for Family Life’s Weekend to Remember marriage conferences.

He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching and Leadership. He has served as Vice Moderator for the Antioch District, Arkansas State Baptist Convention, and is a certified dean from the National Baptist Convention Sunday School Publishing Board. In addition, he serves on several boards, which include the NAACP Clergy Caucus, The Joshua Center, Habitat for Humanity, and the Excellerate Foundation. Pastor Smith has been married for 34 years to Jacinda, the former Miss Grambling State University. They have four children and two grandchildren.

Harry Li, is Senior Pastor of Mosaic Church • Little Rock where he has served for over twenty years. He has a heart for bringing some 30 nations together around the cross of Christ, and building a unique church amongst a multi-ethnic, economically diverse group of people in an under-resourced, urban setting. As a Senior Consultant with the Mosaix Global Network and a CQ Certified Facilitator with the Cultural Intelligence Center, he assists others in building kingdom unity from a biblically centered, theological perspective, balanced with analytical insight from demographic data and a deep understanding of cultural shifts. Prior to coming to Mosaic, Harry was an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Idaho, where he did research for NASA, Boeing and others in the development of high voltage, radiation tolerant integrated circuits for deep space exploration.

Joseph Jones, Ph.D., retired as president of Fresno Pacific University after serving several years as Vice Rector of the only Christian university in Pakistan. His prior 20-plus years in higher education included service as Provost at North Park University in Chicago; Dean of Education and Social Sciences at Messiah College in Pennsylvania; and Associate Professor and Chair and Director of Justice Studies at Taylor University, Indiana. Before becoming a professor, he served in criminal justice systems in New York, Oklahoma, and Virginia. He has a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice with a specialty in Planned Change. Dr. Jones’s work in higher education included building university/community and international partnerships with the aim to empower students, faculty, and staff to “Engage the Cultures and Serve the Cities.” He has served on numerous boards and traveled extensively with the aim of “extending the influence of the Kingdom of God through Christian higher education.” His visit is co-sponsored by the JBU Office of Diversity.

Swoboda (PhD, Birmingham UK) is Associate Professor of Bible, Theology and World Christianity at Bushnell University and lead mentor for the Doctor of Ministry Program at Fuller Theological Seminary on the Holy Spirit and Leadership. He is the author of many books, including After Doubt (Brazos). He lives and works on an urban farm in Eugene, Oregon.
This week’s chapel speaker for World Awareness Week was Reverend Dr. Eugene Kim. Dr. Kim was born in South Korea where he served as a pastor before becoming a full-time missionary in the Philippines for several years. He now ministers as lead pastor for Pleasant Valley UMC in Chantilly, Virginia.

Hollie Voth Schaub graduated from JBU in 2001 with a degree in biology and received her masters in intercultural studies from Biola University. She has served with CRU in Thailand, worked with college students at Pacific Islands University in Guam, and operated a non-profit bakery, Fed by Bread, to benefit schoolchildren in Rwanda. She and her husband currently live in Northwest Arkansas with their four children, where she is committed to advocating for children who experience trauma and walking with people in their holistic health journey as a functional medicine health coach.

Robert A. Mullins, Ph.D., serves as Chair and Professor in the Department of Biblical and Religious Studies at Azusa Pacific University. His interests encompass the fields of archaeology, history, geography, and biblical studies in an effort to better understand the world of the Ancient Near East. He has worked on several archaeological excavations, most notably at Beth-Shean and Tel Rehov in the Jordan Valley. His latest work is Atlas of the Biblical World, coauthored with Mark V. Hoffmann.

He and his wife Julie both serve on staff at Sanctuary Church in Tulsa where Chris serves as Teaching Pastor. Chris is the author of a number of books and articles, including, most recently, All Things Beautiful: An Aesthetic Christology, Surprised by God. He was the guest speaker for Spiritual Emphasis Week.

Jemar Tisby is the president of The Witness: A Black Christian Collective, where he writes about race, religion, and culture. He is also the co-host of the Pass the Mic podcast. His first book, The Color of Compromise: The Truth about the American Church’s Complicity in Racism, was released earlier this year. He received his M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary and is a Ph.D. candidate in history at the University of Mississippi.
