Emer & Michael Paul join the pod to have the craic and sure tell us a fair bit about their wedding day. Full of character and friendly their approach will help people have a wedding day your own way with too much fuss, allowing suppliers to do their job while they have the craic with friends and families and still make it their own with small, impactful choices.

A lesson in swinging for those who are interested, pineapple?

Christmas wedding tips, song tips, singer must haves (Caroline Fraher).

Michael Paul loves cheeky talk and a bit of back and forth. Despite being so comfortable on the mic, he still got speech writing help. Great advice from Michael Paul and Cormac Lally who helped him get the right tone for the occasion. A must listen to for anyone doing a speech.

Shoutout to the moms! Lovely stories from the day and build up.

Hair and Makeup talk, wedding car experience, coffee truck, sneak pub, neo sign, rehearsal giggles.

The Pearls bring the fun! Choosing a song for you, upbeat if you want, do fear the dance, have fun.

Photographs their own way, with some great history.

And a rare threat these days, a Baker Boy cake! Illusive due to demand, the lads were lucky to book Brian to make their wedding cake, think of the raspberry.

Why us? Why not you! Jacinta & Bernard kindly join Laura and Benny to tell of there unassuming wedding day in Adare. For however simple and normal Jacinta & Bernard thought their wedding day was, we can reassure you it was a day to remember. Bring their own personalities and preferences to the day and allowing their friends and family to help and joy in the celebrations.

A modern phenomenon, a Bank Holiday Monday Wedding. Why wait all weekend? Who said anything about waiting for Monday: let the fun begin, buildup crank up and mischief manifest. Vendor snatching is a hidden gem of Bank Holiday Mondays, Jacinta & Bernard explain.

Fitzgerald Woodlands was the host and truly Jacinta & Bernard could not speak more highly and Laura and Benny give it there firm stamp of approval. Form catering for various numbers, the Fitzgeralds know hospitality and attention to detail is second to none.

Jacinta tells all the girly stuff about build up, bridesmaids, make up, hair, getting the lads in gear.

Bernard is your big strapping bearded modern man, blow dry and volume dust. Bernard shares man tips. Car line ups. Shooting sticks (when you can’t bring shotguns to weddings). Wood, carving, man stuff.

Adare’s Church the Holy Trinity could not be more welcoming. From Monsignor Daniel to Francis to Rita, the whole community friendly and makes you feel special and at home.

Shout out to Amy Phelan singing in the church and Flog the Dog, the band of the mighty craic.

Mighty Craic, challenge accepted: DJ Mad Mike aka Jacinta’s Da! CDs, hairy chests, wigs, gyrating, the maddest DJ is the south east.

Nan in the Town, cake making, a family occasion.

Aoife Mc Namara, take you again for your lovely cottage exterior!

How to do speeches, crying and laughing.

Day 2, Thingamajig (trad band) in the Tree House at Fitzgeralds. Gold.

Síona & Sean on their 1 year wedding anniversary (there or there abouts) call in to talk to Laura and Benny about there family wedding day. 2 kids and a long awaited celebration, Síona & Sean let their personalities and genuine preferences dictate what they did and did not do on their Wedding Day.

Sean hangs himself before Benny got a chance to, Sean forgot his suit and Síona ONLY FOUND OUT ON THE PODCAST!

Síona had her own forgetful moments, knickers! The comfort of getting ready at home and even more so when your home is across the road from Mum’s.

Síona & Sean were adamant on having an outdoor ceremony. Despite potentially ending up inside when it was beautiful outside, they gambled right and dodged the showers.

Dangers of night before, it is a long day to be suffering on your wedding day, do not it!

Linda Foley was responsible again for a great ceremony. Mishaps made the moments. Buzz of a receiving line is exclaimed. Long drink reception. Speeches in the garden. Cheese Board Cake.

Biggest regret? Not getting video! The power of audio and not having a pro record moments, is one small regret that the lads have. They think you should get video.

360 and me: Síona & Sean bought a video booth for their wedding and it grew into a thriving business.

We had the best chat with Katie and Cormac, who got married in February 2024. Off Season in Ireland and in their own way. They had 40 or so guests at the Ceremony and Dining, with a more extensive guest list at night for the dancing and late night party.

Katie and Cormac tell us all:

How it was organising a wedding short term.

Spending time with family and those that travelled.

How it was taping up…ladies.

Wedding Dress shopping, Wedding Suit decisions.

Hair issues and knowing when to settle on a style/finish.

Openly and genuinely, Katie and Cormac let us in on the feelings they went through on the day. Including writing and saying their own vows.

Linda Foley preformed a magnificent Wedding Ceremony and all for the collaboration with Katie and Cormac, they give the inside track on the whole experience and brilliance of Linda.

Speeches were flipped on their head also, with the mothers stepping up. All speeches were great and we get talk back about them.

BMG Sound provided the tunes and Katie provided the dance moves, and Cormac was the perfect partner teeing her up.

Wedding Cake was a special one, themed and full a personality.

Cormac is a smooth operator, engagement story is told.

We want to thank Katie and Cormac for the great compliments. They appreciated all the random little things that Laura and Benny did. While we help the good times roll, Katie and Cormac let themselves have a great day.

Damian is a beaut of a man, West Cork true n true and one of the best celebrants in Ireland if not in all of Clon! A Registered Solemniser in Ireland through Spiritual Ceremonies. Damian has endless stories, dead pan humour followed by a cackle of a laugh. If you want someone to be calm when the wedding storm is all around you, Damian is your man. Great advice of: trust your vendors, along with: go how the couple’s vision of their day is. Bottom line is it is the wedding couples’ day. With the guts of 8 years experience, Damian shares some of the more unique elements added to the wedding ceremonies (including whiskey blending). Damian also gave some good advice including various friends and families in the ceremony. His approach to love stories and the big kiss. Kids and Dogs, you know what they say, "drive on" says Damian. A natural with all curveballs, Damian tells 2 of the best stories from wedding ceremonies, a heart tugger and a legendary "I can't believe that happened". Civic minded Damian Maloney has done more for his local community than I could ever had imagined. Truly humble he diverts the credit of great work of fellow community members. Damian tells a story that silences even Laura, the story of how the passing of a friend to manyin west cork, led to charity fundraising, to hospice building. The work continues as the positive work spreads to neighbouring towns.

Billy the disco maniac from BMG Sound joins DJ Benny and Laura to talk all things sound, lighting and effects for weddings.

Billy admits his Ferrero Rocher addiction as he spoils Benny with the chocolates.

Billy has years of experience, understanding sound systems in depth. Whether you have the huge banqueting room on small intimate space Billy can cater appropriately for your wedding.

Obsessed with disco balls, Billy is a shinning light for weddings (I couldn’t resist).

Rare for a DJ, BMG Sound is a team player, super conscious that the event is a wedding and a family day, Billy works with all suppliers to create the perfect outcome. Be it for your wedding photos, video, atmosphere and just smooth running of operations.

BMG Sound offer full day sound solutions. Ceremony sound system or music, drinks reception vinyl records, mega entrances, band alternative and traditional DJ slot.

Billy does not offer Balloons (Benny is very bold) but Billy is mad for getting CO2 cannons going at Irish Weddings.

BMG Sound very much has its own style, while collaborating with the couple for musical guidance Billy turns out DJ mixes of songs you love, without making the songs unrecognisable. Don’t stress, he still caters for granny. The genres and decades are all covered off through the many hours set.

A hiking legend 😊 Billy tells a great story of DJing at the top of Carrauntoohil.

Not to limit the fun, BMG Sound offers 360 video, selfie mirrors and all that type of fun stuff.

Blacktye Wedding Band stopped by to visit Laura and Benny. Darragh professes his love for Cork… Clare... and Ireland. Darragh has lots of love!

Blacktye are a true party band… a fun band… a band that gives you permission to let loose!

Award winning Blacktye Wedding Band get the recognition they deserve.

Laura gives a big shout out to all the members of the band including Derin (nee Doreen) and Ryan.

Excentric in nature, excentric in clobber, Pacman Polka Dot suits set the tone and it just explodes from there.

The diversity of having both female and male vocalists is discussed. Including the diva nature of singers.

Full of experience, Darragh gives great advice from technical free jazz to logistics of squeezing the crowd in, rather than spacing out the party. Take the off season offers! he decries (and hopes it rains so the session is epic).

Darragh is the official inventor of the full day wedding music package and we would just like to acknowledge that, officially, here, now.

Derek Burke Band join Laura and Benny as part of their launch marketing tour.

A man of many names, including “your man”, Derek addresses the swingers in the room.

Country true and true, from tractors to jives, music is in Derek's bones and a showman is in his soul. The energy Derek Burke brings when he is preforming is off the charts.

Derek tells great stories from the early days in Crystal Swing, from the big break and big “hack” that resulted in them going viral (you have to love Irish mammies! "our YouTube is hacked").

We get the run down on Derek’s love for vintage Motor Bikes and Tractors.

Derek Burke Band will keep you entertained at weddings whether you are 18 or 80, covering a broad spectrum of songs, bringing energy and infectious humour. The professional showman reads the room before the room knows it is a book to be read.

For all the showman Derek is, he has a quality band behind him and offers add-ons of Saxophone and Accordion to boot. You can go bog standard band or all out bells and whistle. Derek’s history in big shows means he has access to the mega setup and knows how to use the best of the best gear.

First Dance talk gets a talking, and great advice in general is given.

After recently giving advice to friends and family, Laura and Benny share their take on Wedding Gifts.

God Bless the days of brown envelopes because cash is king in Ireland’s Wedding Gift Circles. Physical gifts are rare. But how much do people actually gift? Caution and realism is needed!

Balance what you spend vs what you expect in return. The range of gifts taps out at a certain monetary value so don’t presume if you spend more, you get more back.

Laura time hops back a generation, to the land of toasters! Benny does some average gestimations.

How to pick a gift amount is suggested and the helpful tradition of dropping in a card before the big day is flagged.

Other brief money topics include: pre-wedding costs, couples gifting to each other and couples gifting to everyone!

Remember whatever your situation, if you got invited people want you there.

Benny rocks another shirt. Laura sets the topic of Social Media content creation reaching new heights beyound Wedding Ceremonies (think unplugged etc.).

The growing norm is your whole wedding day is an opportunity for content. Whether it be vendors, family or guests that are using a device to capture media content. Whether you asked them to or whether they asked you if it is ok to record.

Personalities and attitudes to Media are so varied whatever end of the recording device you are on.

Laura outlines how attitudes and acts impact the Mornings and various other parts of the wedding day.

The need for balance in each individual day is discussed. The importance of the brides or grooms to communicate what they are ok with or what they are not happy with.

Behind the Scenes recording is becoming more prominent. What to watch out for is discussed.

Humans have always raced to be first, to be best and content is no different. People recording content, need to consider what is appropriate, when is an appropriate time to post and that first and foremost it is a wedding day, not a marketing opportunity or social credit scoring chance.

Watch out for bad tips! Logic should flush out what pit falls await certain tips.

The ever changing weather is discussed, hopes for an Autumn this year. The climate change fears. Plans A, Bs and Cs are touched on.

Laura and Benny do a quick-fire podcast to try flag the issues people are seeing with timing Weddings. Logically timing the whole day solves a lot of problems. But some time pressures are being put on by providers not timing the whole day and not speaking with the couple (as to what the couple’s plans are).

Laura and Benny run through timing a traditional church wedding and the rest of the wedding day. As well as timing a modern, all at one venue wedding day. Highlighting some extras that are impacting wedding day timings. Remember if time is tight, can you move something to another part of the day?

Test out the advice you are given, time your day yourself. Does it make sense? Give buffers, don’t just hope for perfect timing.

Be careful of online tips, most people do not see the whole wedding day, the person giving tips might not have even been to a whole wedding day!

Don’t stress, don’t rush, enjoy your day!

Kacie & Darren: Running Fertility Haka Toasted Waterworks, Gently...

Noisy bunch today. Kacie and Darren got married in May 2022 in Killarney, Kerry. They came in to share their story to highlight the importance of having fun on your wedding day no matter what happens. Kacie and Darren’s hotel flooded amongst other hiccups but it did bother them.

Benny checks in with Darren on how he managed to balance up going out the night before without going too far. Being on location for your wedding can be tricky, not being with home comforts but Kacie and Darren recommend it. Think house rental plus hotel room.

They wrote their own vows, did unique speeches and an epic first dance.

TikTok generation is crashing through, how to use Social Media on your wedding day with losing time.

Experiences meant Kacie wanted a fun morning, time and no stress. Darren didn’t want a director of a photographer.

Receiving line conundrum is discussed, family photos, drinks in the park (so bold!), a running photoshoot, doing a dog on the cake, bestman’s toast, dress choice, threat yourself on the day and so much more is talked through.

Laura and Benny see a lot but what fun did they miss afterwards? #fertilityhaka and more revealed.

Benny gets a bit shirty about exact orders of to do lists. Laura feels for couples and senses the stresses. Source of Funds are touched on. Surveys are a good guide but limited by generalisations. Whatever your plans Venues and Vendors are flexible so check with them for options. A Save the Date tip too.

Wedding Scribblers explain how you can use templates or get bespoke designs on everything from your Save the Dates, Invites, Signs, Itinerary, Table Plans, Place Cards, Stickers, Thank You Cards and more.

Workflow and Process mad, Benny makes sure timelines are discussed, proofing tips are given. Allow time to assemble and write up, and be wary of the busy wedding year that is 2022.

Novelty ideas are touched on, betting slips, eye spy, hang your table mate story cards and colouring books.

RSVP options and watch out fors are mentioned.

Laura and Benny discuss options for when you are put in the situation of having a late ceremony. Late being 3 pm in Ireland (traditionally between 12 and 2 pm). With the move to having Ceremonies and Receptions in the same location, venues may suggest a 3 pm Wedding Ceremony. Couples should consider how their day will run if they have a later than traditional wedding ceremony.

Laura and Benny give 4 or more options in their chat about the timing issues. Benny puts Laura under pressure so that couples may see how being flexible and moving a few things around can be done without turning your day inside out!

Laura and Benny talk Wedding Photography with an arch-rival Sean Sharpe #soundsean #seanissound.

Sean gives us loads of insight to his approach to Wedding Photography including:

  • being a solo photographer
  • his style or how he achieves a balance of creative and natural styles
  • helping those who hate having their photo taken
  • Morning Preparations get a big mention
  • the big Ceremony moments: aisle walk, first kiss etc
  • Family Portraits
  • First Looks and pre ceremony shoots
  • timing in winter and weather
  • his signature Confetti photo

Sean beautifully coins the phase Unpressured Coverage. After spending time with Sean it definitely sums Sean up!

Packages of photography are discussed, in terms of what Sean offers and how to understand different photographers’ packages.

The poor video lads get a bashing off the photographers as normal. But Sean, Laura and Benny explain why you should get a videographer as well as the importance as putting as much effort in researching the cameraperson’s approach and personality.

With COVID fizzling out Sean wants to do kudos to the whole wedding supplier community that helped each other out as well as making life as easy for wedding couples.

Benny surprises Laura with a Podcast recording while they drive from Dublin to Galway, in between photographing weddings in Meath and Claire. Laura and Benny look at 2022 for Weddings and how COVID will impact the restrictions imposed on Weddings in Ireland.

Benny makes an outlandish prediction regarding Mask wearing.

Laura clears the fog of doom.

The recording was on 19th December 2021, in case you are trying to work out when what was said about what was happening at the time.

Laura starts of by exuding the stress and fear that so many are probably feeling.

Discussed is the seasonality of Irish people’s behaviour and the varying degrees of tolerance to risk. Risk Levels of couples and the seeming abandonment of most guests. Guest number options for 2022 Weddings while keeping the fun is touched on.

Life goes on with or without Weddings doubt let it ruin your year? Babies? Homes?

What did Weddings look like in 2021 and how are they likely to look in 2022? Everything from Celebrants wearing shields to dangerous Dancefloors.

Really interesting discussion on invites, particularly inviting people while in a period of restriction to a wedding when there is likely to be no major restrictions.

Benny says the word sensitivity a lot!

COVID Certs to be introduced to Weddings?

Venues have different Policy!

Laura and Benny discussing the slight pause of the final lifting of restrictions:

COVID preventive measures will be in place until Spring 2022. Mainly: COVID Certs (not used at weddings but get vaccinated!), Mask Wearing and Physical Distancing.

For Weddings, easiest one first: Curfews are gone! Normal trading hours are now permitted for hospitality.

Numbers: there is no explicit numbers restriction but venues must adhere to preventative measures. That means venue should follow guidelines. Following guidelines may result in reduced capacity.

Weddings are made up of potentially vaccinated and unvaccinated guests so pods/tables of 6 will most likely apply.

Table service or other non-crowd-gathering queueing systems to be used when serving drinks.

Antigen Test will not be used at weddings but will be sent to vaccinated people if they are a close contact. People should monitor their exposure and contacts in the run up to a wedding. (So you can have hundreds of contacts at your wedding!)

The above is from the press conference on the 19th October 2021, Failte Ireland will release guidelines shortly to confirm the operations of weddings in hospitality settings.

So close but no cigar, yet!

Benny is gutted that his prediction is off by a month, most likely there will be an announcement in January 2022 to confirm the end of all measures. As of October 2021 they are saying February 2022 for removal of all measures.

Pre the Christmas disaster of 2020, Benny said the 3rd of Jan 2022 would be the end of all restrictions, COVID would be done! He might yet be right but it is a bitter blow for his COVID response rating.

COVID is ending! Well, the wedding restrictions in Ireland anyway!

Music is back, dancing is no longer illegal.

Benny's final show is nearly, NPHET is being disbanded and Benny is going back into his cave. Laura was right, about most things. Hopefully with the lifting of restrictions, the extreme differences in what venues allow are gone and the bending of rules can stop.

At the end of August 2021 Laura and Benny photographed what seemed like the most normal wedding since before COVID. People have stopped talking about COVID.

October 22nd 2021 will see an almighty mini celebration!

That said, watch out for pesky guidelines that might linger.

From September on you can have as many guests in a church! Reception is 100 guests until October 22. The sense is wedding couples will invite more guests, Christmas 2021 could see big weddings.

Be careful what you listen to, people still getting rule understandings wrong.

Masks will be optional for weddings but required in other settings (retail, health, transport). Be sensitive to people choosing to use masks!

Laura and Benny give a run down as to what weddings look like now. Check with your venue if you are unsure of anything in the run up to October 22.

Plan your band setup and start time!

Cork Jazz 2021 just in time for the music ban being lifted!

Civil Ceremonies run by the HSE are explained.

Summer 2022 is extremely busy. Laura gives an enquiry tip.

Season 4 of the Laura and Benny Podcast. The fourth wave is here and COVID wedding restriction are saying the long goodbye.

Benny winds Laura up per norm. June was great for weddings but Laura is well and truly done with restrictions (protective measures). Small Weddings are great but timing constraints are a hassle currently.

The receiving line is back, hugging n kiss'n. Vaccination buzz is great for the day.

Warning is given that the target or government plan for months ahead are not for definite. Guests are very understanding if you have to dis-invite them.

As August looks set for 100 guests, check with your venue regarding the numbers and social distancing/table plan rules. From what Laura and Benny are seeing, venues dictate the rules, there is no consensus.

Ceremony music is permitted, this was clarified officially. Music ban is all about volume and dancing.

Laura gives mask advice for ceremonies and venues. Curfew clarity too.

Music continues to be frustrate but the outlook is good reading between the lines. For the 100 guests at least.

September and October nerves are discussed as the fourth wave threatens to hinder weddings in Autumn. Predictions are made for Christmas and 2022.

Benny is looking forward to retiring from Podcasting as Laura cannot wait to have wedding suppliers back on the show.

Be careful of pre-wedding meet ups, keep your contacts low and clean!

The restrictions announcement is made for Weddings in June, July and August in Ireland. Laura and Benny get into the ins and outs of it as "Christmas has come early!".

There is a bit of fear in the air for September and October as the summer weddings are all go. (Hopefully vaccinations out run the rise of any variants)

The biggest sign the Pandemic is nearly over is the sweat pants are off. Dress code dilemma is discussed for ceremony attendees.

Laura shares a sense of what people are planning for June Weddings as people are happy to plough ahead with there plans at 25 guests. Including mini receptions.

Timing is critical with the restrictions, balancing the curfew.

Venue Policy is key, some check in before assuming any rules. Guidelines will change over the summer.

Remember to act with caution and do not over do contacts pre-wedding. Hugs and Handshakes get a mention (don't mention the 4th wave).

Benny gives a summary of the NPHET presser on immunity, the Delta variant and vaccines protecting September and October Weddings.

The Path Ahead in Ireland for COVID Summer Weddings 2021. Laura and Benny discuss the lifting of restrictions for May and June 2021, with an eye on July onwards.

New rules, mass confusion, literally mass is causing confusion. Indoors, Outdoors, silliness.

Super positive podcast with some blunt truths.

Benny thinks there are 2 red herrings in the guidelines. And there is probably more to come with Faitle Ireland to still update their operations document.

Religious services are addresses (vs wedding days). The outdoor wedding cod is lambasted.

In general the rules are the most bendy and this is causing wild opinions. However the end is definitely in sight!

Things opening up mean more than just your wedding day, retail allows everything to get sorted a lot easier before the big day.

Benny threatens a 4th lockdown while also declaring nothing can be predicted. Laura sets out her vaccine policy. Peer pressure is growing. Be sensitive to others. Larger gathering testing is explained.

Be careful in the build up to your wedding day, you can get COVID. Abundance of caution will let you go wild.

It is all so quiet! March 2021 and we are still recovering from the COVID 3rd Wave in Ireland. Laura and Benny sit down for a chat on the one year anniversary of their first wedding under restrictions and the last wedding in 2020 before the first long lockdown. They reminisce over the weirdness of it all.

People's Wedding Venue hunts get a mention.

Benny gets pressured into making Predictions. It brings out his blunt side (he apologises later for not truly knowing anything). April and May look like 6 guest weddings. Guessing retail is hard enough so weddings is a minefield.

Do not expect staycations in June. No big events this year. Be cautious and you'll be better for it.

Party Passes are discussed (passport for pubs? weddings?). Testing at venue doors?

Be socially responsible says Benny, "shut up being sick of it" (he is an awful man).

2022 is a go says Benny, no restrictions, full hog!

Munster Wedding Expo is back! Might talk about wedding stuff soon!

After a brief hiatus Benny is back with Laura, throwing curve balls at the 2021 outlook for weddings in Ireland. Of course, discussing COVID Restrictions.

The long intro this episode addresses the serious controversy of February being in Winter or Spring! A deep sea diving story. And a move relevant postponement overview for January 2021.

In trying to understand the next restriction moves Benny brings up the sentiment change by government towards sectors and rules. Travel quarantine is discussed, Christmas is already on people’s lips.

An outlandish prediction for summer pubs and restaurants, if it is not that shocking what does it mean for weddings?

Laura admits being a little too honest on Instagram, and an apology if it scared you.

Laura and Benny discuss At What Level…? For those who do not know the COVID restrictions. We are talking about Masks, Social Distancing, Curfews, Service Providers. So people can understand how the rules are made a brief overview of who makes the guidelines and how they are applied and different from venue to venue, based of internal policy.

The difficulty of getting to Level 2 is trashed out and Laura drops a new angle that bands can argue to be permitted at weddings.
Predictions for wedding restriction for 2021, Benny gets his crystal balls out. Watch out for Paddies day, Easter and Bank Holidays! How do we get to Level 3 and how long will we be at Level 3? Laura brings up her evil wedding guest cap scenario (that is not real but is nightmarish).

Laura recommends planning for different numbers, do guest list for 6, 25, 50 etc.

The crazy contemplation of Level 1 is had.

Remember no one know what it will actually be like in 2021 for weddings.

Watch out for new frameworks, as vaccination percentages increase!

The Third Season, The Third Wave, The Real Surge.

As things get serious in Ireland with COVID, restrictions are at Level 5 and micro weddings are only permitted. Micro Weddings being 6 guests allowed at a wedding. Laura and Benny are back for the first time in 2021.

A typical long winding intro with Benny dropping the bomb that the last audio podcast went live, Laura thought it was binned. Laura is in much better form but does a bit of dooms-day-ing imagining the worst case for weddings. Total stopping of weddings and then a guest cap for levels that should permit higher numbers of guests! Laura’s doom and gloom is reversed though as positive stories come to the fore.

What to check for your micro wedding is dealt with? Clarity on what suppliers are permitted at level 5. Reassurance on the travel limits. The Garda are sound! They will not wreck your wedding!

The big dance debate is put to bed by Benny, Benny grants his clearance for dancing being a null threat compared to spending 10 hours in 25 peoples’ company. The music should be permitted when 25 guest weddings are back. In practice the ban is ineffective, get campaigning!

Postponements: the reason for postponing is discussed, be it international travel, tolerance thresholds, big party desires or the big drama show. Examples are given as to what people are doing in 2021. Benny says ride it until you are uncomfortable, make sure you get a happy ending.

What is reasonable to expect from 2021 guest numbers wise is discussed, be it 25 guests, 50 guests, 100 guests. Realistically it is too hard to predict. March 2021 is at the moment the hardest to work out and people trying to work out the sweet spot for 2021 weddings.

Locking in a date without checking with multiple suppliers is the biggest roadblock to 2021.

Brexit still manages to get a mention.

Christmas 2021 is discussed and the rules that may exist in December 2021.

Benny reconfirms when no restrictions will apply to weddings.

Hugging can recommence in 2022.

When will wedding bands be back?

When will 100 guests be permitted at Weddings?

This is the last episode of Season 2, The Second Wave! It has been quite an undoing but who done it? (don't mind Benny's humour).

Day 1 of Level 3 and Laura is straight in with getting the Hair done. Benny will hold out a bit longer. His odd behaviour is down to sleep deprivation, so really don't mind him today.

Level 3 restrictions for December 2020 in Ireland are discussed by Laura and Benny. Failte Ireland fail to update documents, no news is good news. Music and Dancing is a go until explicitly stated otherwise.

Guest numbers are 25 plus the couple. No restriction on suppliers.

Travel is exempt for wedding guests so no restriction.

Hair and Makeup are back!

Masks are advised, particularly in crowded/busy areas. Religious venues are ask to enforce mask wearing.

Laura and Benny give couples a sense of what food and drink service is like for COVID Weddings. Couples raised the question as to whether late food was still being served. Laura set about getting a fell for how a few venues are dealing with night food while the Cinderella COVID Curfew is in place.

Some off topic but helpful ideas are given on various music options and bringing live music into the dining section of the day. Less relevant, Benny brings up the spectacular Autumn weather for a Saturday in October, Laura scolds him for rubbing it in.

The Safety Protocol is outlined regarding service. That is, in general aimed at individualising as opposed to sharing and minimising movement by guests. All aimed at reducing transmission of COVID.

Interestingly mentioned is the difficulty that may be faced when guest numbers go to 100, if table service is still a rule (lots of wait staff needed).

Tips are given on home safety for the morning preparations.

Reception food and drink ideas are thrown out there, everything from serving cake to toasted sandwiches and bovril (and many more normal ideas, Benny is threading on thin water).

Dining in general is all about staying seated in your pods, individualised salt, pepper, water, spuds and cheese cake. Alternatives like food vans are put in the mix, and dining in domes becomes a reality in Cork.

Laura failed not to mention the word COVID as Laura and Benny discussed chasing day light on Autumn and Winter Wedding Day's Photoshoots. This is the last of 4 episode recorded in one Sunday sitting after poor Benny had a torrid weekend re-arranging the studio and living areas on Laura's winter fire whim.

Striking a balance between getting the photographs you want and your wedding day timing being reasonable can be tricky in Winter. Laura and Benny detail how to be cautious with light, timing the day, looking up the sunset time and working out what time useable light will be finished at.

Weather of course is a big factor for Autumn and Winter Weddings. Rain, wind and cold must all be allowed for. Having a back up plan for when the weather does not allow you to go outside is important. Laura and Benny get into the pit falls of choosing the back up location and the challenges of using limited space area in tighter areas.

And what does Netflix and chill really mean?

2 more scenarios explained in terms of the difficulty of timing your Wedding Day under COVID restrictions and particularly the Curfew.

Laura and Benny run through if you cannot move your ceremony time. Solutions to avoiding the squeeze between the Ceremony and the bell call for dinner. Photoshoot pre-ceremony are explained, small shoots, full hog shoots, first looks and casual first meetings. Solution to family portraits in that time constraints. Of course how to actually count back the time needed and things to watch out for.

Venues are under huge pressure to keep everything safe while providing a fun and enjoyable environment. That given they may have a schedule that is ridged and you have to work within their timing. Laura and Benny outline how to work within that constraints and window for certain parts of the wedding day.

Briefly touched on are the pros and cons of hosting a private wedding versus using a traditional venue. Particularly the safe protocols.

Timing your Wedding under a Cinderella Curfew (less 30 minutes for the epidemiologist gods, burn bunsen burner burn).

Laura and Benny delve into 1 of 3 common scenarios of how to time your wedding day under the curfew set in the COVID restrictions. Laura talked so much that the other 2 scenarios had to be sacrificed to the next episode.

If you have full control and can move any part of the wedding day as you see fit, this is how you can have the traditional order of an Irish wedding day and still have a good party at the end. Yes it most likely won't be the crazy AM lock-in and breakfast that the Irish chase deep into the night. However, it still can be mighty craic and sure it does not matter what time of day it is, you can still have the celebration of a live time. The less standard the session tends to be, the more fun any who.

Laura and Benny touch on Cinderella, Glitter, Old Style send offs, moving timings forward (Laura says back, Benny says forward), Morning Preparation at COVID Weddings, Photoshoot time, Bell Call Timing, Entertainment Window, HAVE A TIMING BUFFER!!!!, test out the logic of all advice you receive, make sure you do not not sacrifice too much to keep others happy.

Laura and Benny introduce their new podcast series, formally Laura Redhead Benson. As the second wave of COVID impacts daily life and impacts Weddings, Laura and Benny are going to discuss planning Weddings in COIVD, how Weddings are happening during COVID, what the out look is short term and long term, the various levels of restrictions and what the restrictions mean for Weddings, but most importantly Laura and Benny are going to push the conversation towards Wedding advice and discussion with less emphasis on COVID (where possible).

This episode gets into what the number restrictions are for gatherings, how the rules has developed since March 2020 to September 2020. Laura and Benny mention what to expect in October and November but discuss the difficulty of predicting how December will look (with some hard truths for anyone hoping for numbers beyound 100 guests). 2021 gets a nod. Wedding Inspectors get put forward as a solution. A hint of a domestic ebbs in the undertones as Benny is a bit grumpy after 2 days house re-arranging.

Coronavirus II, as people are faced with postponing their Wedding due to COVID-19 restrictions Laura Redhead Benson talks through how to deal with moving a wedding date. Some are holding tough and hoping they can still go ahead, and they might just make their wedding happen.

When to postpone, at what point do you postpone is discussed. Laura speaks in general terms so that this video remains relevant as the dates/months go on, rather than speaking about specific dates as they stand now. Hopefully you can apply the given scenario to the situations as they happen in the future.

First of extreme restrictions resulting in your venue being closed. Consider how far out you want to postpone the wedding: 2 weeks, a month, 3 months. If you are in an extreme lock down, how likely is the situation going to become more lenient, allowing you to have your wedding. You can go with a short term postponement and you may have to double postpone or you can go longer term but things may go back to some bit of normality and you may then be waiting for your new date to come around.

Lighter Restrictions may be in place, if you are in a situation where there are number restrictions and is caution generally advised. Your venue is allowing the wedding under the official guidance. Are the restrictions workable for you? Do you want to get married under those restrictions?

Numbers wise, is the reduction in numbers reasonably do-able vs does it completely change your day.

Health wise, think about your own health, your family’s health, your guest’s health.

When there are lighter restrictions after a period of heavy restrictions (Italy in the future) it may be a period of improvement, so weight that up when the time comes.

At some point there will be no restrictions. I think the majority of countries have restrictions in place now in some capacity so this will be a time down the line and hopefully you will not have postponed too early that you’ll have missed your date. When the signals change in the coming weeks and months, try to follow the official guidance and notice the direction the WHO and governments are going in, that may help you avoid a postponement when your wedding may be possible by the time your date comes around.

How to manage a Postponement? Remember it is your wedding so when do you want to postpone to, have an idea and then contact vendors. Reception venue and Ceremony venue are the 2 locations where large gatherings are going to happen so you may want to check what dates they have available. Or you may have a vendor that is more important than the venue and you want to check dates with them first.

Consider Thursday and Sunday weddings it may result in more availability across all vendors. Get a few options, 3 or more dates and send those dates out to suppliers to match up as many as you can. Or pick a period and ask for all availability in that month. Once you have found a date that you think works. Email clearing to all vendors and state you want to re-schedule to the new date. It is important the vendor update their bookings to have your wedding's new date. Give them a chance to confirm but do follow up if you do not get a clear confirmation that they have recorded your new wedding date in their calendar.

Stress and Patience: In general, please do remember that people are under stress for health reason, financial reasons and given the lock downs there are social constraints on people that they are not used. In general be patient and rational when working through the problems that you will have to over the weeks and months ahead.

Multi award winning baker Brian from Baker Boy Cakes stops by to speak to Laura Redhead Benson in dept about Wedding Cakes.

First and foremost Baker Boy Cakes confirms taste over design is always the priority. That said no design is off limits for this Cake Designer of the Year. Brian tells us of some of the more extreme designs such as melting cakes, swing cakes, up-side-down cakes. The more traditional designed buttercream icing, naked cake, chocolate shell, fondant icing and more are discussed.

The hours and intricate detail that goes into the designs of cakes, be it handmade flowers or custom requests give you an appreciation into the craft.

Cutting the cake is one of the biggest wedding traditions. When you plan on serving the cake can be impacted by what type of cake it is as well as when you think guests will best enjoy the cake. Brian and Laura chat about how they have seen cakes cut the afternoon of a wedding day, that evening or even the day after a wedding, on the second day of celebrations.

The amount or size of cake is delved into with regard to having enough cake and reducing waste. It is very easy to go too big and Brian gives a guide on the portions that realistically are used.

Still allowing you to have the big wow factor of a tiered cake, dumpy or filler tiers can be used to add height to your wedding cake. A shell of a tier that is iced and decorated to match your entire cake.

The cost of cakes are rationalized with the break down of communication with wedding couples, meetings, samples, design, preparation, baking, delivery and setup.

Laura and Brian additionally get into the decorations around the cake that can add that bit extra to the cake design. As well as reminding wedding couples of the impact the room the cake will be displayed at the wedding venue will have on the cake aesthetically.

Cake Toppers and the various options from clay models to 2D wording are touch upon.

Allergies with regard to cakes are discussed, gluten, nuts, even honey or raspberry.

Laura of course chats on methods to research cake makers as well as getting some interesting stories out of Brian on being the only male in a Home Economics class starting out as a budding baker.

Laura with Vinny, teases her way through the technicalities of ceremonies shedding light on legal and non-binding ceremonies. Laura recalls her first impressions of Vinny and how he flipped those impressions by doing the simplest of tasks. Vincent is all about everyone that is in the room, no one is left behind. The guests, the venue staff, wedding suppliers, the wedding party including of course the couple themselves. The experience is maximized for everyone, removing his potential adverse impact as much as possible. Vinny and Laura run through the entire ceremony and give great insights in many easily overlooked aspects. Vinny explains his approach to introducing himself to the guest, prior to the ceremony, right through to what he sees when he is the last person out of the room. Elements that can be added to ceremonies are outlined such as: ring warming, hand tying, sand pouring and message box are but a few.

Whether a wedding couple ask someone to say a reading or light a candle, Vinny has great appreciation for the nerves we all deal with. His sensitivity and warmth in helping people through those moments standout.

The emotion of vows are touch on as we find out Benny is a crier. Various options are discussed.

Vinny brings us through how Officiants can help couple prepare the wedding ceremony, running order and script.

The impact of venue is touched on and what legal requirements are to be met if a legally binding ceremony is to take place in the day.

Getting to know Vinny we find out he is a superhero! Charity work in and out of costume, Vinny favourite is to dress up as a superhero delivering presents to a children’s hospital at Christmas. If that wasn’t inspirational enough he also speaks to his community at the Spiritualist Union of Ireland preforming motivational speeches.
