On this week’s podcast, I speak with Tabatha Thorell about generational wealth and the positive impact it can have on our family.
She suggests we start with family conversations about money and helps navigate some hard conversations we need to have to open up lines of communication.
She loves to help families invest their time with their kiddos, teach them about money and give advice for how to manage money wisely.

In this episode, I sit down with renowned author, coach, and friend Bob Goff to discuss his latest devotional, Catching Whimsy: 365 Days of Possibility. Bob invites us to rethink "whimsy" not as something frivolous, but as a purposeful pursuit that brings joy, curiosity, and lightness to our lives.
Bob introduces us to the concept of the “Jesus aroma”—a reminder to reflect on how our actions and presence reflect Christ’s love. He challenges us to live intentionally, making choices that lift others and bring out the best in ourselves. With practical ideas, Bob encourages us to spread whimsy through acts of kindness and service to our families, friends, and neighbors.
We also dive into the importance of focusing on the big picture and asking ourselves, “What will outlast me?” This conversation will uplift you and give you a fresh perspective on how small, meaningful actions can make a lasting impact.

In this episode of The Encourager, I’m opening up about my “messy middle”—a season of business that’s been unexpectedly challenging, even after 20 years in the game. Join me as I share what this season looks like, what I’m doing to keep things basic and manageable, and how focusing on the next 60 days has brought clarity and peace.
I dive into the essentials I’ve returned to, from blocking out time intentionally to revisiting the “why” behind my work. I also discuss the visual tools that help me stay on track: a refreshed vision board, a habit tracker for consistency, and our weekly Honey Huddle meetings that help Nick and me stay aligned.
Key Takeaways:
Whether you’re in a messy middle or just need a reset, this episode offers encouragement to keep moving forward, one manageable step at a time.

Is this the year you want to change things for your family? To really think about the lives you are living and the direction your family is going? What if we stopped and asked ourselves if this is really what we want? And what if we had a framework to be intentional about our parenting and started implementing more of what we want and less of what we don't?

I believe everything happens for a reason… and on my travels with Rebekah Scott Designs, I got to meet Chris with the DTOM22/0 Foundation where I learned of his mission to help eliminate veteran suicides through several methods, including using horse therapy on his veteran’s ranch. In this episode, I talk with my Executive Assistant, Angie Sattler, about her position, some of the personal qualities and skills you need to look for when hiring this position, and what tasks should be included in the job description.
I am obsessed with self-help and self-development because I believe you need to know who you are so you know where you can go. You need to discover more of who God specifically made you to be so you can utilize the gifts He gave you and discover what more He has in store!
I don’t necessarily separate my work-life from my home-life and, while I realize this may not work for everyone, I think it does for us because my best home practices keep things running smoothly and help harmonize the two. I’ve developed these over the last 12 hears (since becoming a mom) and I know they can help you too!
I love the words “productivity” and “hacks” and my #1 productivity hack has allowed me to throw my planner in the garbage… it’s my weekly agenda sheet! It helps me stay organized, manage all my thoughts and tasks, and the BEST part is, I get to crumple it up and throw it away at the end of the week (who doesn’t love that)!
Hacks are ways of getting things done better, faster, easier… These are six of my “tried and true” productivity hacks that are super easy to implement. I know these hacks work and fit all of my roles so I can keep my priorities in order.
Pairings are just two habits or actions you pair together so you don’t think of one without remembering the other. Think bread and butter or coffee and creamer. This hack of pairing things together has drastically changed how quickly I implement new habits and practices in my life!

Having mentors in my life since starting my business, Rebekah Scott Designs, has been crucial for my personal and professional growth and honestly, is what led to me starting The Encourager Podcast. This is one of my FAVORITE episodes to record, as I get to recap what has been going on with my family, my business, and The Encourager Podcast since the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019!
An agreement is something you’ve told yourself that you now accept as truth... But it may not necessarily be true! AND it may be harming your subconscious. I want to challenge these truths and teach you how to recognize them, how to replace them, and how to take steps to make the new agreement true.
The first step in reversing agreements or truths is recognizing them. This part is crucial and can be difficult, as we are trying to un-do possibly decades of negativity that either we or someone else has planted within our hearts and minds.
Watch for words like:
“I am/am not.”
“I can/can’t.”
“I will/won’t.”
“I do/don’t.”
Write down your top 3 “agreements.”
Write down a NEW agreement.
Then plan 3 actionable steps to reverse the original agreement/truth.
Here are some examples:
Original agreement: “I am bad at math.”
New agreement: “I am capable with my calculator and Excel spreadsheet.”
Action Steps:
Original agreement: “I am unorganized.”
New agreement: “I am organized.”
Action Steps:
Original agreement: “I am a procrastinator.”
New agreement: “I will plan accordingly.”
Action Steps:
Affirmations
Affirmations are short, powerful statements that you say (preferably out loud) that spark change in your life. They can be used to eliminate something from your life or help create something new in your life! Affirmations are used to consciously control your thoughts and will be a BIG HELP in reaffirming your new agreements!
“I value my work.”
“I am worth every penny I charge for my work.”
“I can do this.”
“I am good at math.”
“I am organized.”
I highly recommend googling affirmations and selecting ones that really speak to you.
Print them off and say them out loud once a day. To make these EXTRA powerful, say them to yourself in the mirror! You will feel silly but TRUST ME… it’s powerful and it works!
Don’t limit yourself by believing these agreements!
Use the power within you to make positive changes and reverse these false truths.
Commit to working on this for 30 days (or longer)… whatever it takes!
We got this Encouragers!

Nothing says “love” like a business meeting with your spouse! HA! But seriously, Nick and I prioritize time once a month to talk about our calendars, budget, expectations, dreams, children, and more. With our busy lives, this meeting helps keep us on the same page and heading in the same direction.
To set up your own monthly business meeting with your spouse, follow these simple steps! If you are single, find a mentor and set up a time to meet with him or her so you stay on track.
Pick a date.
We meet the last Thursday of every month. We recommend picking the same date or day each month so it’s easier to schedule!
Have an agenda.
This doesn’t have to be fancy… we use an index card! Keep scrolling to the bottom of this document for a sample agenda you can use!
Remember your priorities.
We can’t emphasize enough how important it is to set priorities, write them down, and have a copy with you for your meeting. If you need help, listen to my earlier podcast episode on the subject!
Bring your calendars.
Whether it’s a paper calendar or a fancy phone app, we highly recommend having a calendar for your family, work, and social events. If your schedule is too full, go back to your priority list and decide what doesn’t make the cut. Don’t forget to schedule a date night!
Communicate your expectations.
Be honest with each other about your expectations. This can help eliminate fights before they even start!
Talk about your budget.
Eliminate money fights by getting on the same page with money by having a budget. We recommend Financial Peace University and the Every Dollar App by Dave Ramsey.
Remember your dreams and goals.
If you don’t prioritize talking about your dreams and goals, when will you talk about them? Don’t lose sight of the big picture by making a point to discuss this monthly.
Discuss your family.
We have four kids so they are a big part of our lives! We pick two things for each of our kids to work on (which we learned from the book The Gist). If you don’t have children, set these goals for each other instead!
Talk about your Love Languages.
The 5 Love Languages is a book by Gary Chapman that talks about how we all give and receive love. You can take a quiz here to find out your love language! We take this time to be honest with each other about our needs and whether or not we are getting enough of our love language spoken to us.
Repeat your vows.
What if we all said our “I do’s” to each other every month instead of once in a lifetime? If you can find a copy of your vows, look into each other’s eyes and repeat them to each other at the end of your meeting!

Kim Henderson joins me to talk about how her career success as an event planner led to some not-so-great “ah-ha” moments, causing her to leave her dream job to focus on her family and talks about how she still uses her God given talents.
Do you need help identifying your strengths? We recommend taking the Strengths Finder quiz to help!
What is your passion?
Have you ever had some devastating “ah-ha” moments that have caused you to shift your focus?
Have you asked yourself the million-dollar question, “If you were making $1 million, would you still do the job”? Who are the people in your life that you can ask to be truthful about your situation?
How can you scale success by your way and not the world’s way? How can you still use your God-given talents and gifts but use them His way and not yours?
Many times, we tell ourselves we must keep going. How can you embrace the word “surrender” and give it to God?
Dear Lord, please help us get off this hamster wheel… and BURN THE HAMSTER WHEEL

Building a company means wanting growth and profit but there are times when business ebbs and flows, and we need to think lean. As owner and designer of Rebekah Scott Designs, I have learned how to ride the waves and share my tips for thinking lean while still growing your company.
When you own a business, you have to be sure to think abundantly but also think lean when cutting costs and improving efficiencies.
If you are considering adding or cutting something, ask yourself, “Do I have more time or money?”
Things to consider when thinking lean:

Building a business and raising a family is difficult and can easily lead to burnout. You need discipline, motivation and a superwoman cape to avoid it completely! Burnout has happened to me, which is why I’ve come up with so many of my systems and why I wrote my book, “Equipped to Execute.” In this episode, I’ll cover my tips and tricks for avoiding burnout.
Keep your calendar small. I print off a small calendar from timeanddate.com. Each month is the size of a piece of printer paper and I keep it small on purpose so if the things I have planned don’t fit in that space, the kids and I are going to feel burned out!
Time everything. I do this so I feel less overwhelmed with what I think might be a crazy night. I know it only takes 20 minutes to pick things up and then I feel relieved. Bedtime can be especially stressful so knowing about how long this takes helps you keep your cool.
Have a “me” system. If you trust and use your “me” system, you’re much less likely to burnout since your priorities are being met each day. Speak this loudly to others and don’t allow guilt to creep in. You need to be charged before going to your circus. J As a part of this system, I HIGHLY recommend waking up before your kids. Doing this gives you time to center yourself before you need to start meeting their needs!
Have “your thing.” Because people in my life know what I love, they bring me treats (like chai lattes or dark chocolate) or give me time to do things (like take a bath or go for a run) that help give me a break. Make these known to your tribe what these things are so they can help when you’re feeling burned out.
Know your “must do” factor. Ask yourself what needs to be done TODAY so you can relax a little bit and let the rest go. That might mean doing laundry and waiting to vacuum until tomorrow, or clearing the tables but leaving the dishes in the sink. Don’t think you must do everything! Pick three things TOPS.
Use your helpline. Friends and family will sense when you are feeling stressed out and if they offer to help, LET THEM! People love to help so listen for these opportunities.
Have a “code word.” Develop a word or phrase that alerts your loved ones that you need help. When you use that word or phrase, they think “Bailout!” and can come to your rescue!
What are your takeaways from this podcast? Take a few minutes to reflect and take some notes below!

If you own a business, you’re already doing too much and probably spending more time working IN your business but not ON your business. I’m challenging you in the next six weeks to hire one of these four positions: executive assistant, website developer, marketing/social media person, or cleaning lady. Listen to my friend Shelly Gaddis explain what she did with her business, Elegant Mommy, the tug on her heart, and how she made some tough changes that altered her life in a positive way!
A lot of my coaching clients ask me, “Do I REALLY need a website?” Social media accounts are great and also helpful for your business, but a website will change your life AND your business!
As I get older, I try to get wiser about what my family and I are putting into our bodies. My good friend, Andrea Henriksen, knows a little about everything and she’s here to talk to us about the chemicals and toxins in our personal care products so we can elevate our health by pursuing toxic-free living.

I took the last month off from the podcast and strategically chose episodes to air during the break that speak to the concept of rest and self care. In this episode from earlier in the season, I talk about shutting down at night and how it can be one of the most difficult things to do as we handle all the roles in our lives, especially if you work from home. How do we fully turn off our brain so we can close our eyes and get some rest at night? Sometimes it happens out of exhaustion or because we want to check out and not face our “to do” list. In this podcast I talk about what I do to fully (and properly) shut down at night.

I have four systems that help me stay on track in my personal life and my business and my “work” system is the third in the series. As a mompreneur, I need to have a system in place for my business. In this podcast, I discuss the four major methods that help keep my “work” system going.
I have four systems that help me stay on track in my personal life and my business and my “family” system is the second in the series. Prioritizing my family over my business is so important to me. My “family” system involves values we instill in our children and six guidelines we follow as a family. I also touch on other factors like discipline, prayer and date night!
I have four systems that help me stay on track in my personal life and my business and the “me” system is the first in the series. Having a “me” system is important because it fills me up and helps me give my best to God, my family and my business. My “me” system involves self-love, confidence, beauty (inside and outside), God and Gratitude.
FREEDOM! That’s what most people think of when they hear “work from home.” While that can be true, too much freedom can also cause us fear because there isn’t a boss giving us parameters and our workday isn’t a typical 8 to 5 schedule. Working from home doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Here are my top 3 secrets for simplifying working from home.
The word “wise” has been coming up a lot in my life lately and it has made me think about the wise choices I’ve made in my life and in my business. While I know wisdom comes from above, I wanted to share this with you so you could reflect on the wisdom in your own life.
I have four small children and I work at home so people always ask me, “How do you do it?” I had to learn how to focus with small children present in my work environment and learn to work WITH my kids all while being productive!
When it seems like you have a good rhythm to your work day, you might think “I may have time to take on more… should I do that?” Block out an hour or two to think on this idea and ask yourself some important questions.
Anything that is a clever tip or trick to simplify things in your home or office is a “hack.” In my home, I’ve figured out in each room what would help me stay organized and accomplish more! These are simple things that don’t require you to spend a lot of money and can be both physical things or mental things.
I believe what you speak comes back to you so I try to be very particular about what words come out of my mouth and the tone in which I say things. When you speak, you are speaking things into existence so you must be careful about what you say!
I don’t normally think much about my age but I turned 35 this year, which seemed like a big deal! I was thinking “If I retire at 70, I’m halfway through my working life!” GAH! While I want to amp things up and get things done, I also want to take a breath and reflect on what I’ve learned during my time here on this earth.
Pairings mean two things that must go together. You can’t do one without the other. Pairings are important because it becomes automatic in your brain to put these things together so when you think of one, you automatically think of the other. Like bread and butter!
You’ve made your priority list and your key decisions… now it’s time to start blocking! Blocking means breaking your day into sections of time and dedicating those to specific tasks based on importance.
In order to grow your business, grow your family and prioritize what you are doing, ask yourself these key decisions to help gain clarity! Answering these questions will help you do your job that much better!
Priorities. You must know what your priorities are before you can make your key decisions! Write them down in order and post them so you can see them often!
When will you work? How many hours are doable in your stage of life? Write it down, set those hours, and commit to it.
Who are you going to work with? Who is going to help you? Do you need a nanny/babysitter? Do you need an assistant or marketing person?
Where will you work? You need a designated space for your stay-at-home job! What are the rules regarding your work and workspace? Decide what they are and let your family know.
What are your goals? Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly goals are SO important! Write them down and post them so you can see them!
What is your why? This is the ultimate goal of why you are doing what you are doing.
How will you grow your business?
Margin is the act of putting breaks in your life and your schedule to allow yourself time to sit and reflect, to absorb what you’ve created or accomplished. This is SO important, especially since we all have so many roles in our lives!
Why? Margin is important because it gives you time to step back and check out for a little bit. It helps us gain a new perspective. Margin will help you stop and refresh before starting back up again.
Where? It’s important to decide where you’re going to take time for margin. In the bathtub? On the back porch? At the park? Find a space you love that is relaxing!
When? Decide when you will take time for margin. What day? What time of day? Will you schedule margin daily? Weekly? Monthly? Start slow by scheduling margin once a month. Then once a week. Then daily!
How? Block this time out in your calendar. Set a reminder on your phone. Be purposeful!
Batching is the practice of arranging things in sets or groups in order to decrease distraction and increase productivity. Batching gives me freedom from choices! It helps me free up mental bandwidth to be present with my family. And it helps me be more creative!

I’m back! Thank you for your patience as I sewed like crazy to get my Christmas purses finished! During my time sewing, I had plenty of time to brainstorm about new episodes to share into 2016. This week, it was incredibly obvious that perspective had to be my main subject. From now on, I will try to include elements of perspective in my show to help guide you through times that seem too difficult to manage. Business flops, misbehaving children, church and community commitments, hosting family, etc. can all be overwhelming—especially when they overlap. Not to fear, a perspective of positivity and gratefulness can get you through anything! Tune in this week to hear how I am looking at life with a new perspective and how I can guide you to do the same!

Hello encouragers! Well this lady had to get real with time! I will not have new episodes for the next couple of weeks. The holiday season is extremely busy for RSD and I have to sew like crazy to get all of the orders completed. As I have elaborated on before, I truly rely on my priority list to guide me when things get hectic. Through prayers and reflection, I have decided this decision would be the best for my family and for my business. This week on the Encourager we will re-post the Jenny Fenig interview since it was such hit! If you missed this episode, check it out! If you have already listened to it, take another listen. Jenny gives great advice about slowing down and finding one's passions/purpose to have renewed energy for life's daily tasks.

As we all head off in our cars or begin preparations for the big feast on Thursday, I decided to keep my things short and sweet this week. Even though the holiday season can be hectic, Thanksgiving allows a time for us all to take a deep breath and reminisce on the past year and all the things we are thankful for. Your family will love you regardless of how decorated the house is, or how juicy the turkey may be—so let go of some of that worry! During the episode, I share with you a few short things that after reflection on 2015 I have been extraordinarily thankful for. I challenge you this week to be in reflection of your year and many blessings!

My babes are the reason I do what I do. Being a work at home mom, I am blessed with watching them grow and learn in the comforts of our home. However, in order to enjoy our shared time together and have a productive work day, my children and I have to follow a schedule while I have to remember to give them grace and patience. This week on the Encourager I share my seven best tips that have made business with the kiddos right next to me successful over the last seven years. Each of my children have different personalities and have gone through different phases; but these seven tips best encapsulate the methods for how I have handled day to day life thus far. I hope you can apply one or two of these to your parenting techniques while working from home!

As moms, we tend to put our husbands and children first. We work and work so hard that we don’t realize what we are missing, we don’t notice why we are so off…Then, the lightbulb flashes and the thought occurs that our needs have been put on the back burner. However, most of us don’t take that light bulb moment and ACT on it. Instead we think to ourselves, “I just don’t have time for hobbies right now.” This couldn’t be farther from the truth! Stacy Curtis reminds us this week that our passions are what energize and lift us from the path of burnout. Using her passion of writing as a source of income and creative outlet, Stacy shares in this episode how she remains organized while still making time for her corporate job and family.

This week on “The Encourager” I focus in on expounding my priorities. Being a servant of God, a wife to Nicholas, a mother of four, and owner and designer of Rebekah Scott Designs are the key components of me that guide my life. Everyone has their own priorities; but sometimes they can be hard to identify. One helpful tip (that I explain during the podcast) for pinpointing your priorities are listing off your deal breakers. We have to be able to narrow down deal breakers so that we can clearly see our priorities. I hope today’s episode can help kick-start your priority list or fine tune the preexisting one!

Tiffny's business, Virtual Office Advantage, is her way of helping businesses of all kinds organize and prioritize the influx information. Listen this week to learn how to efficiently handle email, to create a hanging folder system in your home or business, and ultimately how to take back control!

After receiving some much appreciated feedback from our listeners, I have noticed many of you wanted me to go even deeper into my morning routine and what it all entails; so I will do just that! In previous episodes, I have explained the raw elements of my morning routine, but this episode I specifically explain the “why” behind each step of my mornings. I believe that because of my habitual routines, the efficiency of my family in the morning has increased immensely. I hope this provides the encouragement you need to making small changes in your routine—especially when you are bogged down by “pain points”.

We are so excited to release this episode which covers the nitty gritty of accounting/office managerial work—best taught by our guest, Kerry Olvera. Kerry and her husband, Javier, have 4 children and multiple businesses together. She works about 25 hours a week in business while being responsible for her children's education. Their family-operated business, Supermercado Mexico, received Michigan's Top 50 Companies to Watch in 2013, West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Most Promising Business 2012, and was nominated three years in a row for Business of the Year. The family was also nominated for the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce EPIC Minority-owned Business of the Year. Her motto for getting through it all is “Do the Next Right Thing”. Currently, she wipes spaghetti from the toddler's face, helps with math problems, and emails simultaneously. Sometimes, it gets messy. Kerry reveals her secrets about organizing the business, keeping her priorities in line, and how she takes time for herself to make it all work.
Sometimes we all need an uplifting, motivating message. I believe this episode will do exactly that for you! First, I talk about the popular phrase "an attitude of gratitude" which I alter quite a bit based on my perception of gratitude. Second, I dive into how I continually teach myself gratitude and put it into practice in my daily routine. Lastly, I explain how the foundation of gratitude will allow you to be joyful. Life is more fun when we have joy and are surrounded by people who emit joy. Tune in to the episode to get a taste of the gratitude and joy I have to share!
We would like to apologize to all the listeners that the sound quality of this audio isn't our best; but believe us from here on out it will be much better. We just had to share this new mommy's questions!
Stephanie Swanson, owner of Prairie Flair Design, guests on our show this week to mainly talk about motherhood and how to balance work with a newborn. Diving deeper into my daily schedule, talking about goal planning, and most importantly balancing priorities are the highlights of this episode.
In this podcast, the Encourager goes into quite a bit of detail exactly how she does errands. Listen carefully as Rebekah goes through grocery shopping, doctor's appointments, meetings, and ultimately to clothes shopping while providing a plan for the best time management. The Encourager provides many tips in this episode how to involve the kids and create opportunities for development and responsibility!
In this episode, I emphasize the importance of leaving a legacy for your family. We all want to create lasting memories for our children but they don't always have to be elaborate, beachfront vacations! Some of the Scott family legacy builders include: journaling, scheduled memories, baking, mommy and daddy dates, and family values that I believe you can emulate in your household. I hope to encourage you to brainstorm with your spouse to find ways that work for your family to build that crucial legacy.
