Over the first five episodes of Kris' tenure on The NXT Wrestling Fan, MeganBob whiffed every attempt to predict the next big thing in the story of NXT. For reasons that we assure you are reasons, that has resulted in nearly two hours of Bob and Kris talking about Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew!, an obscure yet beloved funny animal superhero comic published by DC in the early 1980's. Rather than boring you with the origin story of this bonus episode, we'll just tell you that many DC Comjcs tropes are explained, many animal puns are uttered, many low-key quacks are quacked, and the word "sexecutioner" unexpectedly comes up. What are you waiting for? Let this strange episode into your ears so it can punch you directly in the brain!

Are we chanting for zoo animals in the episode of NXT that originally aired on February 18th, 2015? We certainly have reason to! Along with that, we also ride a rollercoaster that includes:

  • Dramatic irony
  • Precognition about rhinos and spears by tigers
  • Reverse shrimp holds
  • The Devon Box
  • A tea-aboo sidebar
  • A tiny Wrestlemania sign
  • The Sydney Opera House
  • A real Greg
  • Bullcrap and a weird man
  • Your boot-choking dollars
  • Gotta dom your dom
  • Nobody Eats It Like Neville
  • Loud as a kazo
  • Gravity remembers
  • Revenge does a body good!
  • GOOD WITCH WOULD NEVER

  • The Bull Dempsey Circle of Hell
  • A steel chair is brutally sat upon!
  • Wrestling inspiration from the iconic Oprah Winfrey

There are many things to note about the NXT go-home show that originally aired on February 4th, 2015 but chief among them is that Corey Graves is a man with things to get off his chest and observations to make. Highly specific observations. We make some observations of our own in this episode covering topics as diverse as: * Angry bubble lady * Insignificant sample sizes * Pokebutt * The Gil Gunderson of NXT * Efforts * Tasting Note for Submission Holds * High Dollar Adjectives * BETTER THAN RAW! BETTER THAN RAW! * More Bullwinkle Than You'd Suspect * The Coup de Grâce cocktail

The episode of NXT that originally aired on January 28th, 2015 leaves us with a lot to think about and a lot to feel because it's contract signing time between Kevin Owen and Sami Zayn! The episode of NXT that originally aired on January 21st, 2015 didn't intend to teach us a new word, but in our defense, Afrikaans words are simpler to spell on an American keyboard than 'Coup de Grâce' is. Not that we don't love a circumflex around here. Other things we loved and just generally had emotions about include:

  • Day job promo packages
  • Is William Regal a Spring
  • Excited about brackets
  • Deferral of inevitability
  • Ulnar Nerve Manipulation
  • Murder Chalk
  • Treat yourself to a Bargument
  • An Ode to Dinosaur Training
  • Steak Fight
  • The deadly Fucktapus
  • Some beautiful hands
  • "You too, Princess."

The NXT Wrestling Fan returns in roughly six weeks to tell the tale of Sami Zayn's journey through Golden Age NXT! In the meantime, we have to say goodbye to one of our very oldest friends here on the podcast. We also say hello to the new permanent (and familiar) co-host that will guide us through to the conclusion of The NXT Wrestling Fan.

As we work to prepare the next arc of the show, you'll have 3-4 bonus episodes on the feed covering a bit of AEW and giving you plenty of wrestling hilarity to enjoy while waiting for the return of the regular show.

Kris Newton and I are thrilled to be working on this and we can't wait to bring you Zayn's NXT story in the coming months!

Our theme song is called "Learnbuckle" and it was created by the uniquely talented Rafael Medina, whose work you can and should follow via his Twitter account, @EarthMeauxFaux! You can also follow Miles @mjschneiderman, MeganBob @meganbobness, and the show itself @nxtwrestlingfan. Real talk: When I (Miles) originally started talking to MeganBob about doing this podcast, I knew that two things needed to happen: We needed to start with Sami Zayn's debut, and we needed to, at the very least, make it to NXT Takeover: R Evolution. Getting past R Evolution would be great (and don't worry, we will) but as long as we made it there, it would be enough. And now we're here, and I can't express how happy I am that we've gone on this journey. And I would never IN A MILLION YEARS have dreamed of being able to talk Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, and R Evolution with the one and only Mith.

If you're not familiar with Mith's work, that's something I highly recommend you change, whether it be via the famed Mith Gifs Twitter account or their essays on The Spectacle of Excess. I don't know that I've ever encountered a better writer on the subject of professional wrestling, and trust me, I have encountered most of them. If you want to be FULLY versed on the stuff we're talking about today, your light reading assignment is this essay on Sami Zayn's Road to Redemption, or, for the more ambitious among you, the 20-part series on the history of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, which you can follow in order thanks to the links at the bottom of each essay as long as you start with the first one. I cannot possibly recommend these highly enough for anybody interested in these two characters, or just interested in reading great non-fiction writing.

Anyway, we are so honored and thrilled that Mith was able to join us to discuss all things R Evolution, and I'm so happy that you get to hear it! Please enjoy, and be sure to stick around until the end of the episode for important announcements about the future of this podcast!

We're almost there. We're SO CLOSE. And we have so many appetizers to dig into before the main course! The episode of NXT that originally aired on December 4th, 2014, is the go-home show for NXT Takeover: R Evolution, and while other feuds are fractionally furthered and we take delight in various small moments througout the show, it's the final confrontation between Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville that blows us away. Topics of conversation for this episode include:

  • Bayley acting wildly out of character and being rightfully punished
  • Simon Gotch dueling a lion
  • Kevin Owens and the cracking open of the door between WWE and the independent scene
  • The unfathomably erotic thrill of William Regal calling you "flower"
  • Finn Balor is coming with something we've never seen before (is it his dick? How could it possibly be his dick? But also, how could it possibly not?)
  • Character growth, evolution, and the moments in which professional wrestling is at its absolute best
  • Bowser leaves town (and Bowsette arrives)

The episode of NXT that originally aired on November 27th, 2014, is...strangely devoid of Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville? Huh. That's kind of weird for this time period. But it's still compelling, as we get to catch up on a few of NXT's other storylines, with developments that include:

  • The Continued Adventures Of Jason Jordan, Wrestling Detective
  • Tyler Breeze and Marcus Louis suddenly being fanfic material
  • Blue Pants' lack of theme music
  • Dueling with bear footage
  • Finn Balor and Natalya continue to just be ridiculously hot
  • Our first glimpse at Kevin Owens (!!!) (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
  • Pocket sand

The episode of NXT that originally aired on November 20th, 2014, isn't exactly a four-course meal — more like a bunch of single-serving h'orderves followed by an absolutely massive and sumptuous dessert. But there's still plenty to talk about in the early parts of the episode (Bayley getting advice from Charlotte that she's definitely going to ignore, the Vaudevillains going weirdly problematic on us all of a sudden, and a temporal dick-measure contest between Bull Dempsey and Baron Corbin) before we get to Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, and the DRAMA, which is catnip for MeganBob. Be sure to check this one out, because if you can't do it, you might just be done.

At long last, the moment has come! To cover the episode of NXT that originally aired on November 13th, 2014, we are joined by none other than MeganBob's husband, Neal Butler! Now, this is normally where we put the whole bulleted list of things we talk about on the episode, but to be honest, we mostly just talk about Finn Balor, who is ridiculously hot. Actually pretty much everyone on this episode is ridiculously hot. But especially Finn Balor!

The episode of NXT that originally aired on November 6th, 2014, has many things to recommend it (most of which happen backstage) but we only have eyes for the debuting Finn Balor and his omnipresent dick. We dare you to look at anything else when he's on-screen, which fortunately is only at the end of the episode, so at least we have a few other things to talk about. Some of those things include:

  • Packages (the video kind, not the dick kind, pervs)
  • But also very much the dick kind, if that wasn't clear
  • In case Finn Balor's dick wasn't enough, William Regal likes a spot of tea and it is extremely hot
  • Also Sami Zayn has a match with Tyler Breeze and the pin is very weird and fucky, are we horny enough yet?
  • A new MeganBob fanfic features Catra drooling over her girlfriend, Adora, so no, apparently not
  • All of wrestling's terms of blood and bleeding, explained, and definitely not out here ruining the entire vibe

He doesn't actually appear on the episode of NXT that originally aired on October 30th, 2014, but he's here to talk about it with us, and we couldn't be happier! And by "he," we mean former NXT wrestler AJ Ryder, aka Troy McClain! AJ joins us for the entire show, breaking down Sami Zayn's latest redemption roadblocks, Hideo Itami's inexplicable decision making, and Emma's temporary return to the show. He also discusses his journey into (and out of) pro wrestling, pulls back the curtain on his experiences as a member of the 2014 NXT roster, and shares a myriad of stories from his time in the ring. It's truly a very special episode, and we're thrilled to be able to share it with you.

It's nearly inconceivable, but we have reached 75 episodes! As MeganBob quite astutely points out, that's three quarters of the way to 100 (the numbers don't lie)! There's only one way to celebrate such a milestone: watching Adrian Neville tell Sami Zayn "We all know you can't win the big one." Ouch. Sick Shire burn, bro. Of course, that's not the only thing that happens on the episode of NXT that originally aired on October 23rd, 2014. Other topics of conversation include:

  • The Continued Adventures of Jason Jordan, Wrestling Detective
  • The continued machinations of the evil mirror in the women's locker room
  • A bizarre, if temporary, farewell
  • Hideo Itami should maybe consider hunting fewer vampires
  • A hairy and huggy fanfic
  • The long-awaited final edition (for reals this time) of Women's Wrestling History of the Week
  • Miles and MeganBob are VERY excited about the next episode

We have finally arrived at the episode of NXT that originally aired on October 16th, 2014. And that means that we have finally arrived at the official beginning of Sami Zayn's Road to Redemption! So naturally, we brought in Annie Craton of Crooked Russian Cam, because she knows basically nothing about wrestling. And it's a blast. Topics of conversation include:

  • Mysterious wrestling cartoons
  • Wrestling matches as food dishes
  • Team Thicc (sp?)
  • "Hi Becky, I'm gay"
  • The debut of Blue Pants
  • Alex Riley somehow, impossibly, does a good job
  • The New Breed, explained (and shipped)

You can find Annie's work here: https://www.crookedrussiancam.horse/

Hi all, we are so sorry, but unfortunately there is no new episode of The NXT Wrestling Fan this week. We hope that after listening to our explanation, you'll understand and forgive us, and we promise that in two weeks, you will have Episode #74 in your hands, and we will be back to normal from there (except for the fact that every episode for a while is going to be a BANGER). Thank you so much for continuing to listen as we navigate our increasingly insane lives!

Episode #73 is here to give you a big 'ol hug, which you probably need after watching the episode of NXT that originally aired on October 9th, 2014, aka "The One Where Sami Loses to Titus O'Neill." Yes, that's a thing that happened. It's an outrage. But of course, it needed to happen. Also in this episode:

  • MeganBob's secret "large people tossing around small people" fetish, revealed
  • A truly bizarre Mojo Rawley finish that's only partially explained by his injury
  • Full Sail goes deathly silent
  • Apparently Hey Arnold! was culturally relevant in 2014?
  • Renee Young's sapphic feelings about Becky Lynch are very textual
  • Titus O'Neill is Andre the Giant in The Princess Bride and it's the greatest compliment we could possibly give him
  • Bear hugs, explained (with some help from Ruslan Pashayev)
  • Bob's Barneys

Episode #72 is here and coming in hot, and honestly, if this one doesn't make you a fan of our show, you might be out of opportunities. Just like Tyson Kidd on the episode of NXT that originally aired on October 2nd, 2014! Highlights include:

  • Selling on offense, explained (and demonstrated by Bayley)
  • The collective noun for a group of referees
  • The Continued Adventures of Jason Jordan, Wrestling Detective
  • We need to know absolutely everything about Troy McClain
  • Something is changing inside Adrian Neville
  • Allison Danger = Queen Titania
  • WWE tryouts: an half-assed investigation

Even getting our heads shaved and having to put on terrible wigs wouldn't be enough to stop us from covering the episode of NXT that originally aired on September 25th, 2014, in which Jason Albert takes a stand for bald people everywhere! Also on this episode:

  • The maturation of the Bayley character
  • Charlotte is apparently a babyface now
  • Why MeganBob isn't always enthralled by women's wrestling
  • A brief conversation about wrestling video games
  • Enzo's pursuit of Carmella remains gross and hard to watch

Takeover: Fatal 4-Way is in the rearview mirror, which means it's time for the fallout! There's a lot going on in the episode of NXT that originally aired on September 18th, 2014, and there's a lot going on in our episode covering it, including:

  • The NXT Championship continues to be very much the One Ring
  • The Ascension are finally in a storyline
  • Tyson Kidd is weirdly over
  • Titus O'Neill and his ridiculously tiny briefs arrive in NXT
  • Carmella wants a job
  • Miles has a lot to say about SHIMMER Women Athletes
  • Mystery Inc. meets the Great Old Ones
  • The NXT Wrestling Fan Federation Trios Tournament returns!

Our theme song is called "Learnbuckle" and it was created by the uniquely talented Rafael Medina, whose work you can and should follow via his Twitter account, @EarthMeauxFaux! Nice! And fittingly, the Takeover Fatal Four-Way that originally aired on September 11th, 2014 was also very nice! Having Elle Collins along to join us made it even better yet! So what's in store on this chonker of an episode?

  • Well produced stuff versus chaotic dumbness
  • Losing to a random guy
  • Enzo Amore is a scumbag
  • THE FORBIDDEN DOOR
  • Soft-Butch Jock Girl
  • How pregnant can a moment be?
  • A case for not kicking out
  • The Ur Peepums
  • Follow Elle Collins on Twitter!

We've almost arrived at Takeover 2: Takeover Boogaloo, and while the go-home show this time around features all four NXT title contenders in action, another confrontation between Bayley and Charlotte, and the finals of the #1 contender's tag team tournament, the real main event is a trip to a hair salon. Other subjects that come up as we cover the episode of NXT that originally aired on September 4th, 2014, include:

  • No, seriously, Enzo and Cass go to a hair salon, and you have to watch it
  • The on-screen debut of Carmella
  • Every wrestler on this episode as a food
  • A much, much too extensive conversation about enchiladas (at least half of which got left on the cutting room floor)
  • A temporary but fond farewell
  • The enduring optimism of one Corey Graves fan
  • The enduring optimism of Pride and Prejudice readers who could have SWORN Mr. Collins died in the book

No matter how well you hide, you can't escape the penetrating gaze of the episode of NXT that originally aired on August 28th, 2014. Or at least, our coverage of it! Topics of conversation include:

  • There's a new NXT General Manager and it's WILLIAM BY GOD REGAL
  • Sarotiral speculation
  • The women's division is actually getting a real feud for once, finally
  • MeganBob is strangely fascinated by the upcoming Mojo Rawley/Bull Dempsey match
  • Sami Zayn feels the NXT Championship whisper to him, and the world begins to change
  • House shows, explained
  • A very special, very different fanfic!

Apologies for the sound quality in Episode #66 - beyond some technical difficulties we had in recording this one, Miles was also recovering from COVID, so he might not sound entirely like his usual foul-mouthed anti-capitalist self. Fortunately, we have some back-up in the form of Kam Servo, who's here to bring her unique perspective on wrestling to the episode of NXT that originally aired on August 21st, 2014! Topics of conversation include:

  • WWE's Saturday morning cartoon
  • The worst thing that could ever happen to Enzo Amore
  • Triple H's suits still don't fit
  • Mojo Rawley can't buy a squash match
  • Another banger from the entirely too small women's division
  • Eugenics
  • A bunch of good flippy boys
  • The inspirational story of Mad Maxine

Pro wrestling, everyone. It is very good. Well, okay, sometimes it sucks. But when it's good, it's extremely good, and the episode of NXT that originally aired on August 14th, 2014, is an extremely good episode, with extremely good wrestling. Topics covered over the course of this 90-minute love-fest include: * Adrian Neville's thighs * Bull Dempsey's butt * The Gordon Sisters Boxing * An absolutely incredible championship main event * A slightly less incredible but overall more important Sasha/Bayley match * What is "Slam City," and why is Brock Lesnar? * A very looney MeganBob fanfic * Another edition of Wrestling History of the Week (you'll never believe our wacky new direction) * The NXT Wrestling Fan Federation Trios Tournament travels through time

We're all about that human connection this week as we launch into the #1 contender's tag team tournament, which officially kicks off on the episode of NXT that originally aired on August 7th, 2014! But that's not the only element of this episode that gave Miles and MeganBob those good mirror neuron feels. Other subjects of our conversations about togetherness and empathy include:

  • Catching up with Jason Jordan, Wrestling Detective (you truly do not understand how far we're willing to take this bit)
  • The weirdly compelling friendship between Enzo and Cass
  • The smoldering, undeniable chemistry between Sami Zayn and Renee Young
  • Why everyone hates Eva Marie (and why they should maybe cut her some slack)
  • Xavier Woods is the platonic ideal of the phrase "living his best life"
  • Tag team cohesion, explained
  • Everybody dances and we never want them to stop

Check it out, Episode #63 happens to fall exactly on Christmas Day! Not that this episode has anything to do with Christmas or any winter holiday in any way, shape, or form - we're covering the episode of NXT that originally aired on July 31st, 2014, which is about as far from winter as it gets, and because we record in advance and don't really think too hard about our release dates beyond "every other Saturday," the word "holiday" isn't mentioned at any point. But regardless of all that, we'd still like to think of this episode as our gift to you, just as Natalya going down on Adam Rose's ecstasy lollipop was NXT's gift to us! Other topics of conversation include:

  • Why wrestling cares about where people are from
  • Tyler Breeze finds all of this annoying
  • Becky Lynch finally has a real gimmick
  • Chekhov's imploding tag team
  • It's okay to mix a T-bone steak with peanut butter and jelly
  • Inigo Montoya vs. Frog
  • New music for two of our regular segments! Hooray!

The episode of NXT that originally aired on July 24th, 2014, is kind of a weird one, and not weird in that delightful, "we're just a bunch of theater nerds who happen to also like working out, check out our improv" kind of way. More like a "why is nothing silly or fun happening, this isn't the NXT we're used to" kind of way. But will we let this episode's slightly sub-par quality prevent us from having a good time covering it? Come on now, you know us better than that! We have tons of stuff to tell you about, including:

  • Why heel vs. heel matches don't typically work
  • Did we just witness a burial?
  • Vladimir Putin's NXT debut
  • Alexa Bliss' stealth iced tea marketing campaign
  • The disqualification finish vs. referees looking like morons
  • Pec-and-Shoulder Shimmy 2: Vampiric Boogaloo
  • Ring general, explained
  • The Phantom says respect women's wrestling

Bob's fifth haul of points meant a romance episode with a guest! Kris Newton was the lucky man called upon to join our journey into the heart and loins of romance. Bob provided a selection of books and Kris chose How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks. It's extremely 2005 and extremely strange as it mashes together genres with glorious abandon! In our intrepid trek through the text we discuss:

  • Bob's essay "In Honor of Stupid Things"
  • Vampire sex dolls (no seriously, it is a plot point)
  • Dental hijinks
  • No, no, he's just a very sound sleeper
  • The harem. The fucking harem.
  • Scottish Highlander vampires!
  • Roman Draganesti is a thirteen year old boy
  • Celerity dots re: sex
  • This Hank Pym Motherfucker
  • ...Is this book a parody?
  • Swords at dawn 2am
  • Extremely unexpected vampire headcanons

No questions are off limits in the episode of NXT that originally aired on July 3rd, 2014, and the same is true of Episode #59, which prompted us to ask some questions ourselves!. Subjects of occasionally confused conversation include:

  • The strangely executed heel turn of Justin Gabriel
  • The strangely executed breakup of the BFFs
  • Tyson Kidd's Oscar-worthy performance as "Passive-Aggressive Dickwad"
  • Bayley's inflatable tube men have names now (but we don't remember them)
  • Tweener, explained
  • A special Halloween fanfic from MeganBob
  • An important update on the NXT Wrestling Fan Federation

We get a double-Schneiderman experience as we're joined by Sharon Schneiderman to cover the momentous episode of NXT that originally aired on June 26th, 2014, which features the in-ring debut of Becky Lynch. Her wrestling more than makes up for the unfortunate gimmick, we promise! Also in this episode:

  • Don't cheat to win against jobbers
  • Eddie Kingston cosplay
  • Becky Lynch is amazing in the ring
  • Two soapboxes
  • Colonialism blows!
  • Lady Whistledown meets Big Cass
  • RVD is beautiful and we love him
  • "Yes, and" not "No, but"
  • The exceedingly short career of Matt Sugarman
  • The Numbers Don't Lie

We've had plenty of milestones on this show. The women's championship tournament. The two-out-of-three falls match. Arrival. Takeover. But we're not sure any of those compare to the episode of NXT that originally aired on June 19th, 2014, which features the in-ring debut of the Vaudevillains. If you like it when both Miles and MeganBob are charmed and delighted and just super happy about everything, this is the episode for you!

And yes, upon reflection, there are a few non-Vaudevillains things to talk about, which include:

  • The ongoing drama of the BFFs
  • Sami Zayn sells the Fall of Man like a goddamn champ
  • Is Tyson Kidd finally actually a heel now?
  • The surprisingly bright future of Travis Tyler
  • The debut of the Bo-wrence Olivier Award (the Lawrence Bo-livier Award?)
  • Gimmick infringement, explained
  • Did we mention the Vaudevillains?

There might not be more purely emotional installment of The NXT Wrestling Fan than this one, in which we cover the episode of NXT that originally aired on June 12th, 2014. Partially because of what happens on the show, partially because of what's going to happen in the future. Topics of passionate conversation include:

  • The rest of Paige's wrestling career, explained as much as possible in the time we have
  • Aiden English meets a smiling strongman backstage and everything is delightful forever
  • An unexpectedly lengthy conversation about Dave Bautista
  • Sami Zayn is a cop, but we forgive him
  • The first and final appearance of Mr. NXT
  • Bo Dallas might be the best character in wrestling

Our theme song is called "Learnbuckle" and it was created by the uniquely talented Rafael Medina, whose work you can and should follow via his Twitter account, @EarthMeauxFaux! You can also follow Miles @mjschneiderman, MeganBob @meganbobness, and the show itself @nxtwrestlingfan. The first Takeover is in our rearview mirror, and we are entering a new era of NXT - one we're very excited to cover! And it begins with the episode that originally aired on June 5th, 2014. Beyond the most important thing, which is obviously the full cut of Bo Dallas' farewell to the NXT universe, subjects of discussion in Episode #55 include:

  • The spontaneous debut of Lady Whistledown's Match Report
  • TeamGooljar

  • Championship booking strategies
  • A brief and likely incomplete history of music videos in wrestling
  • The pain of being the guy with the Slate Randall sign
  • William Regal already runs this place
  • Women's Wrestling History of the Week and the era of the Diva Search
  • Possibly MeganBob's best-ever fanfic

We've done it. We're here. It's time to cover the very first NXT Takeover. And to do that, we have a double-sized episode for you (for real) and a returning guest host in form of the amazingly talented and wrestling-curious Dan Mulkerin of Garden Plots with Skeletor. We talk about a lot of different stuff on this episode, y'all. Subjects include (but are not limited to):

  • What Dan's gimmick would be as a wrestler
  • Camacho's future (and more importantly, his pants)
  • A series of bizarre choices related to El Local
  • Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze achieve their finals forms
  • Miles reads an op-ed about United States foreign policy that he wrote in college (no, really, he reads the whole thing, it's awful)
  • The incredible women's championship match, and what it meant to both pro wrestling and Ric Flair
  • Tyson Kidd's match-long heel turn
  • Danhausen, explained (or, what Dan's gimmick would be as a wrestler)

The 53rd installment of our educational wrestling journey has taken us to the episode of NXT that originally aired on May 22nd, 2014, which means we have officially covered our first full year of wrestling! This is also the closest thing we have to a 2nd anniversary episode, and we're celebrating with the very first Takeover go-home show! Or rather...the BO-home show! Our coverage includes:

  • The NXT universe bids farewell to Bo Dallas, who, as a reminder, is the greatest
  • Tamina Snuka is probably very good at many things (but wrestling is not one of them)
  • We demand that Camacho removes his shirt this instant
  • Sasha Banks takes yet another step toward achieving her final form
  • The fickle relationship between babyface champions and wrestling crowds
  • Tyson Kidd wants you to know that he knows how to say the word "fact"
  • The Figure Four, explained
  • MeganBob's view goes askew

NXT aired a pretty top-heavy show on May 15th, 2014, with a big triple threat main event with huge implications for the championship picture, preceded by a bunch of stuff that wasn't as good and didn't matter as much. But the Episode #52 of The NXT Wrestling Fan has no such structural problems, as Miles and MeganBob endeavor to find entertaining ways to discuss even the dullest of Mojo Rawley matches. Also on this episode:

  • The earth-shattering debut of "Medieval Minute"
  • Apparently tag teams get feuds now, who knew
  • Every wrestling move should have a cool fantasy name
  • Miles should like anime (but doesn't)
  • Sami Zayn is the protagonist of this show
  • Signature moves, explained (kind of)
  • Jessica Rabbit endures the Attitude Era

She's here to tell us what the MCU could learn from wrestling and uncover yet more Bo Dallas secrets. Along the way, we cover: * Miles "Trojan Horse" Schneiderman * An unexpected sock puppet * Don't make the middle part boring! * It's party time! all the time! * The prettiest Northern Lights Suplex * Thank you, Tyson! * The longest ringing of the bell * "Imaginative Brownies" * Girls are great!

Episode #49 has the special distinction of being the longest episode we've ever produced without featuring a special guest! That's right, it's just Miles and MeganBob covering the episode of NXT that originally aired on April 24th, 2014, and we fill the time with a myriad of conversations about all manner of subjects, including:

  • The trolling of Rusev (and also his chest hair)
  • Narrative blue balls
  • A bafflingly terrible performance from the commentary team
  • Total Divas, explained
  • When they say "Uce," we say "Ohs"

We've never had a return guest before now, but we just had to bring back the very first guest we ever had to help us cover the episode of NXT that originally aired on April 17th, 2014. Lucas Brown of The Math of You is back and ready to tell us about how Godzilla vs. Kong can be viewed from a pro wrestling perspective! Really, that should be enough, but we also talk about other things with Lucas, some of which include:

  • The eternal debate between clotheslines and lariats
  • A new tag team! With matching gear! What paradise is this?
  • MeganBob is very disappointed in the NXT audience
  • Wrestling shoe choices
  • Why is Brodus Clay?
  • Think of me (think of me fondly, when we've said goodbye)
  • Bam Bam Bigelow, explained

Because our Patrons are incredibly wonderful, we reached our $150 goal...and because our Patrons are ever-so-slightly sadistic, they voted for us to watch the 2013 animated film Scooby Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery. Regardless of what we might think of the movie's quality (Bob has a much higher tolerance than Miles for this sort of thing, surprising no one) it manages to be both brazenly corporate and deeply strange, so it's definitely worth talking about. Some things touched on in this episode include:

  • The very specific time period that was 2013 WWE
  • A mystery that's as easily solvable as it is convoluted
  • Sin Cara was never as popular as this movie thinks he was
  • He is apparently a bee, though, which we will consider canon for the rest of time
  • An unexpected Young Justice cameo
  • Sequels and Speed Demons
  • Racism, sexism, colonialism; it was made by white dudes, you know the drill

We didn't expect the episode of NXT that originally aired on April 10th, 2014 to take this big a place in our hearts, but dammit, we can't help but appreciate long-term storytelling with a fantastic payoff! That's right, it is once again time to talk about how much we love Bo Dallas, as he completes the arc of NXT's most compelling character by falling to his knees in despair after finally realizing the audience hates him. chef kiss

Also on this episode:

  • The Ultimate Warrior, very briefly explained
  • The significance of elbow and knee pad removal
  • Bayley wrestles like someone shot her out of a cannon
  • The Great Khali is a little slippery
  • Bob meets Justin Gabriel
  • Double champions, explained

We hope you're ready for some unvarnished optimism, because Miles and MeganBob really enjoyed the episode of NXT that originally aired on March 20th, 2014! Well, maybe slightly varnished, but only slightly! It's not like there was nothing we didn't like, but for the most part we were thoroughly delighted. Topics of conversation include:

  • Sheamus goes out on a high note (literally)
  • MeganBob's sexual adventures in Ireland
  • Sasha Banks and Bayley just continue being good at this
  • We want better things for Camacho
  • Aiden English finally gives the crowd a reason to boo him (and it's glorious)

It's time for MeganBob and Miles to tackle the episode of NXT that originally aired on March 13th, 2014, and while we have mixed feelings on the show itself, our discussion of it is as pure as the driven Bo. Which is to say, we talk about Bo Dallas. A lot. Because he is a normal human man from Earth, and we love him. Also on this episode:

  • A bunch of matches with little to no stakes...
  • ...but a surprisingly good main event
  • Natalya is all our moms
  • We would like WWE to stop treating Xavier Woods like this, please and thank you
  • The single greatest achievement of Alex Riley's career
  • Wrestling cards, explained
  • A loving husband, father, and mat wrestler who is definitely not an octopus

Bob's fourth roundup of points meant that they had to think about what would win Miles back after the wintery embrace of Ice Planet Barbarians. Bob decided to reach for one of Cat Sebastian's newest books, A Duke in Disguise, and Miles gets to reap the benefits of this radically political and brilliantly crafted romance. Along the way we explore:

  • Bob's essay on romance and politics
  • Seditious pamphlets!
  • A gentle sadboi
  • Regency bondage play
  • Miles' Sex Advice (TM)
  • Feminist critiques of Ozymandias
  • Corey Graves: tool of the establishment?
  • Grievous professional embarrassments

Coming off the amazing high that was our NXT Arrival coverage, we are back with Episode #42, aka "the meaning of life episode." And indeed, we learn so many things from the episode of NXT that originally aired on March 6th, 2014, including:

  • Wrestlers operate under the same rules as faeries
  • Adam Rose = Leo Kruger after acquiring drugs, an identity crisis, and happiness
  • Sami Zayn and Corey Graves have dueling types of hotness
  • MeganBob can write some pretty sexy fanfic when they want to
  • Sometimes you just really need to talk about the definition of technical/mat/catch wrestling for 15 full minutes
  • Having skin is weird (but necessary)

  • Stephanie McMahon is amazing at her job; Shawn Michaels, not so much

The NXT Wrestling Fan has officially hit the forties, but we're still very much in our primes! Not sure we can say the same for whoever decided to have Emma announce that she had "some things to say to Paige," "next week," even though next week is NXT Arrival and Emma never actually does say any of those things, but that's not important right now. What is important is that next week is NXT Arrival, and we're covering the go-home show that originally aired on February 19th, 2014! Highlights include:

  • A brief history of the ladder match
  • A sad goodbye to our oldest friend
  • Looking at your phone while someone else is talking is the ultimate heel move
  • Bob's appreciation for the Ascension has reached yah-some new heights
  • Women's Wrestling History of the Week has THINGS TO SAY about the Attitude Era
  • A very special edition of the Cheap Pop Quiz

It's Episode #39, and Miles and MeganBob are back to talk about a show with lots of talking, namely, the episode of NXT that originally aired on February 12th, 2014. Seriously, the main event is a promo. Also in this episode:

  • Sami Zayn and Cesaro are characters in a romance novel. Like, textually.
  • WWE isn't quite okay with acknowledging that other wrestling promotions exist yet, but it's close
  • CJ Parker turns heel, starts hating the audience for not caring enough about the planet, and wins our hearts forever
  • Charlotte still isn't wrestling for some reason, but that's okay because Alicia Fox secretly rules
  • Has anybody seen JBL?
  • "Go-home show," explained
  • RIP Brodie Lee

Thanks to those of you who contributed to our raffle to benefit the Democratic Senate campaigns in Georgia, and specifically to that raffle's winner, David Waters, The NXT Wrestling Fan presents a special bonus episode about vampires, local politics, and the banality of every day existence! That's right, we're talking about the the utterly brilliant FX/Hulu show What We Do In The Shadows, specifically the first two episodes, "Pilot" and "City Council." Highlights include:

  • Bob is introduced to Nandor the Relentless (because he never relents), Laszlo Cravensworth, Nadja, Colin Robinson, Guillermo, and the amazing characters and writing in this show

The show doesn't typically go over an hour unless we have a guest on, but here we are! There's a ton going on here in Episode #37, which is appropriate, because there's a ton going on in the episode of NXT that originally aired on January 29th, 2014. Some of these extremely going-on things include:

  • Serious Bo Dallas is kind of terrifying
  • Corey Graves is back, and in a higher tax bracket
  • The friendship between Enzo and Cass is wholesome and pure and incredibly stupid
  • Sylvester LeFort and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad client interview process
  • Spots, explained
  • Scorpia fires the first shot in the war against the Horde
  • An inexplicable conversation about which fruit is the sexiest

Episode #36 is a special one, as Miles and Bob are joined by a true titan of podcasting, a stalwart defender of pro wrestling, and just an overall awesome person. Hub from Titan Up The Defense is here to help us cover the episode of NXT that originally aired on January 22nd, 2014. Highlights include:

  • Hub's roundabout journey to pro wrestling via the winding road of trading cards and Tito Santana
  • CJ Parker is basically Speedball from the New Warriors but inexplicably named after Pamela Anderson's character in Baywatch and we kind of love him now?
  • Natalya's bizarre new year's resolution
  • When babyface wrestlers are actually smart and do things that make sense (!)
  • The rarely seen DOUBLE BUTTWATCH
  • Bird superstitions

Miles wasn't wild about the second book in the Ruby Dixon authored Ice Planet Barbarians series, Barbarian Alien, so MeganBob rounded up a few friends and dove in to give it the thorough working over it so richly deserves. Joining MeganBob on this ride to find out why we resonate for these delicious books are Marissa Bond, David Waters, and Josh Vaske-Huff. Also in this episode:

  • Liz is pissed
  • Luke Skywalker's theme playing in the background
  • Porn is art
  • An unlikely podcast origin story
  • The biggest dick in the tribe
  • How do you make a bow?
  • Noooope!

The NXT Wrestling Fan has reached a truly presidential number of episodes, and the episode of NXT that originally aired on January 15th, 2014 is like the United States presidency in that they are both totally devoid of women. We get revenge on Y chromosomes everywhere by taking another deep dive into the history of women's wrestling, this time covering the story of Alundra Blayze/Madusa. Other things covered on this episode include:

  • An absolute banger of a match from Adrian Neville and Tyler Breeze, which may or may have changed Bob's opinion on the latter
  • What wrestling was like before the WWE Network
  • Your longest reigning NXT champion of all time is "as pure as the driven Bo"
  • Rusev is that one guy who says he knows how to give a massage
  • We just love Kofi Kingston SO MUCH
  • Leporine corporate mascots collide!

Bob's third slew of points resulted in pushing Miles further into the waters of romance than perhaps anyone was ever meant to tread as we read Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. Bob loves it, Miles tolerates it, and we learn a lot about ourselves along the way. Also in this episode:

  • Georgie is a gender neutral name
  • World-building-palooza
  • Sexy alien design
  • Every romance hero wants to punch your ex-bf
  • Shaky symbiote science
  • Fun with pronouncing cool sci-fi names
  • Miles' feelings on Barbarian Alien (Book 2)
  • Character-driven boning vs just-because boning
  • The Spur (TM)

So, here's the thing. The episode of NXT that originally aired on January 8th, 2014 is...not good. Probably the worst one so far. But are we going to let that ruin Episode #34? Hell no! There are all kinds of highlights in this one, including:

  • Alex Riley's three rules for life, none of which is "know the names of wrestling moves"
  • The growth and development of Bayley
  • Tyler Breeze is a terrible improv partner
  • This is why we don't do tornado matches
  • The thing where you show the audience your opponent's butt crack
  • Xavier Woods!!!!!!!!
  • The Discworld/Friends crossover you never knew you needed

It's a momentous day here at The NXT Wrestling Fan! (Not just because it's Halloween, but also definitely because it's Halloween.) It took more than a year, but at long last, we are finally covering the episode of NXT that originally aired on January 1st, 2014. Which means that if you want to, you can watch the show along with us without subscribing to WWE Network and giving money to Vince McMahon. Now all you have to do is subscribe to Hulu! And, you know, give money to Disney. But let's be honest -- there's a much better chance you're already doing that.

Highlights of this episode include:

  • A 2/3 Falls Match that, shockingly, ends after only two falls
  • Colin Cassady can sing, actually?
  • The women steal the show, but what else is new
  • Sylvester LeFort's problematic interview process
  • When is a tag team match not a tag team match? (Answer: When it's a tornado)
  • Leo Kruger's last hunt
  • Garden Powerbombs with Skeletor

Special thanks to Dan Mulkerin and Kris Newton of Garden Plots with Skeletor, which you should absolutely be listening to, and which is available wherever you get your podcasts!

Christmas seems to come earlier every year. Or in the case of the episode of NXT that originally aired on December 25th, 2013, we suppose it arrives quite late indeed. The arrival of the 2013 NXT clipshow is worth the wait though as it contains great clips of our faves, some wrestlers we never got to meet, and one of the most incredible matches we've ever watched. Come for the supercut of Sami Zayn and Cesaro fighting, stay for the soulful finale to Wiliam Regal's in-ring career.

Also on this episode:

  • Unreasonably beautiful people
  • Bathrobe guy!
  • Bo Dallas is NXT Champion and that's still very weird
  • Cesaro cuts a great promo
  • William Regal cuts a great Shakespearean monologue
  • Big Dorian Gray Energy
  • Bob meets a "familiar" face in Guess the Gimmick
  • The Shield does some lurking and cable splicing
  • The greatest farewell match we could hope for

In Episode #31 of The NXT Wrestling Fan, Miles and Bob welcome podcaster and game designer Jeff Stormer to the show! Highlights include:

  • Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, the American Wolves, and why those names have never been heard on NXT or WWE television
  • The contradictory NXT episode numbering system, explained
  • Why Jeff has never left the wasteland
  • Extremely high-profile wrestling shows Main Event and Saturday Morning Slam

The NXT Wrestling Fan is officially in its 30s, and while Miles and Bob agree that's generally a good thing, the episode of NXT that originally aired on December 11th, 2013 is...not great. However, we had no intention of letting a somewhat mediocre piece of television dampen our spirits for Episode #30, which includes:

  • Ceaseless dunking on Alex Riley, which he absolutely deserves
  • Seriously though, what's going on with this tag team division
  • The delightful friendship of Bayley and Natalya
  • The many dangers of nail polish application
  • Kassius Ohno surfs into the sunset
  • Sailor Moon applies a sharpshooter
  • Miss Elizabeth, the Jumping Bomb Angels, and the death of American women's wrestling

These days, a lot of us here in the United States are in the market for a new country, and Canada is the classic option for would-be American expatriates. Unfortunately, for obvious and very sane reasons, that's not currently an option. So, in honor of the 29 members of the U.S. Congress who recently asked Canada to reconsider opening the border, we're proud to bring you Episode #29, covering the NXT episode that originally aired on December 4th, 2013, so you too can experience Canada vicariously through its associated pro wrestlers! Highlights include:

  • Natalya, Tyson Kidd, and the horrors of the Hart Dungeon
  • How the sharpshooter got its extremely petty name
  • The most painful crossbodies ever
  • The ballad of Johnny Armani
  • Cesaro understands how pro wrestling works
  • Time shenanigans

Miles and Bob have their eyes on the clock in the episode that originally aired on November 20th, 2013, because it's almost wall to wall wrestling in a beat the clock challenge. Emotions run high and there is much sighing about how cool Sami Zayn is. Miles and Bob also stop to discuss:

  • The two different flavors of large dude: Chonk and Noodle
  • Bayley lovingly armoring up with a second headband
  • The battle for Sin Cara mask rights
  • Adrian Neville trouncing Aiden English
  • Sami Zayn, the unlockable Street Fighter character
  • Being memorialized on your friend's ass
  • JUST DO THE ROBOT WITH BAYLEY!

Well, it took 26 episodes, but we finally got somebody on the show who has spent real, actual time in The Business. In their coverage of the episode of NXT that originally aired on November 13th, 2013, Miles and MeganBob are joined by ring announcer and commentator Jeph B. Lee! We discuss Jeph's background and philosophy toward wrestling, as well as various episode-specific topics, including:

  • The foreshadowing of Charlotte Flair
  • Camacho is neither Mexican nor a gang member, despite what NXT would have you believe
  • Can a wrestler be suddenly de-pushed?
  • "I swear, if a history lesson on the British Isles is what it takes to make you care about this Mason Ryan/Danny Burch match, pass me that permanent marker and a globe." -- William Regal
  • The mystery of the unassuming ring announcer
  • Adrian Neville makes all Bob's dreams come true

It's a very special day here at The NXT Wrestling Fan. Listeners of the Smash Fiction Podcast know how elusive our guest for this episode can be, but we have managed to bring her down from her home somewhere in space and get her in front of a microphone. Liz Logan joins the show, having seen almost no wrestling in her life, having very likely not listened to a single episode of our podcast before, and indeed, having mistaken many of NXT's backstage segments and video packages for commercials she could skip through. It's a BLAST. Also on this episode:

  • Miles and Bob kick off the show with their statement on the #SpeakingOut movement
  • The rise and fall of Liz' relationship with Tyler Breeze
  • The BubbleGoth Powers explode
  • A ring full of roses
  • Randy Orton, explained (badly)

You know, we don't actually mention this in on-air, but we feel it's important to note that Episode #23 is the final episode of The NXT Wrestling Fan that will share an episode number with the date of the show being covered, as we're talking about the episode of NXT that originally aired on October 23rd, 2013! This also happened in Episode #18, but we were too busy making coming-of-age puns to notice at the time, AND NOW IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. Anyway, this episode includes:

  • A show-opening statement of solidarity, because Black lives matter.
  • Broken friendships and the dearth of apologies in wrestling
  • Vampirelociraptors
  • The percentage of CJ Parker's hair that may or may not be fake
  • Adrian Neville's wardrobe malfunction
  • Sasha Banks and the racist "ratchet" chant
  • Standing in the corner (in, like, an official capacity)
  • Pride and Pinfalls!

The NXT Wrestling Fan is finally old enough to drink! Though since we're meeting Rob Van Dam this week, it might be more appropriate to get stoned. Assuming you manage to get through this with some memory of the episode of NXT that originally aired on October 9th, 2013, you might have a hazy recollection of:

  • A Cesaro/Leo Kruger feud, but in fast-forward
  • Seven women on television at the same time
  • Mojo Rawley's butt is the only interesting thing about him
  • Sometimes you want to go where not everybody knows Colin Cassady's name
  • A languid, amiable dude who loves marijuana and kicking you in the face
  • The rematch clause, explained
  • Miss Piggy would have been the greatest wrestler the 1940s had ever seen
  • The NXT Wrestling Fan Wrestling Promotion signs a piece of Renaissance art and an assassin

The NXT Wrestling fan is officially 20 episodes old, and we're celebrating being out of our teen phase with some truly wacky shit from the episode of NXT that originally aired on October 2nd, 2013. Some of that wacky shit includes:

  • Championship-calibur spooning
  • Fandango and Santino Marella, explained
  • Miles' reaction to Mojo Rawley
  • When the announce team screws up the whole idea behind your admittedly thrown together mask-based deception
  • The History of Women's Wrestling, Part the First
  • Why you don't fuck with Molly Weasley
  • The drunken American sports player of your choice

By the way, that is, in fact, our music! It's called "Learnbuckle" and it was created by the uniquely talented Rafael Medina, whose work you can and should follow via his Twitter account, @EarthMeauxFaux! Welcome to episode 19, aka the only episode that will be listened to by the characters from Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Hi, guys! You won't find the Tower in the episode of NXT that originally aired on September 25th, 2013 (and you should really stop looking for it, anyway) but you might find a god. Of the wrestling variety.

Also in this episode:

  • Enzo Amore flaunting his access to toilet paper (too soon, man)
  • Our first-ever criticism of William Regal
  • Breaking news: Bo Dallas still the worst, proclaims local woman
  • The big boss introduces the new boss, but not until after we meet The Boss
  • The unexpectedly amazing but painfully short-lived comedic chops of Brad Maddox
  • Mixed tag team matches, explained
  • Carol Danvers makes everything better

Eighteen is the American age of adulthood, and also the age you need to be to watch an R-rated film. So send the kids to bed early for this one, because we're dealing with something far too scary for those impressionable young people: the episode of NXT that originally aired on September 18th, 2013, which contains no women's wrestling whatsoever. So many penises. So terrifying.

Also on this episode:

  • The Tragedy of Curt Hawkins, Act II
  • Aiden English can actually sing
  • QT Marshall has something on his butt, but we're not sure what it is
  • Renee Young ruins everything with her MICROPHONE and her OVARIES
  • The brilliant storytelling and bright red pants of Tyler Breeze
  • An industrial goth who saw The Crow too many times
  • Simultaneously the most heavenly fanfic and the most deliciously sinful fanfic of all time
  • Penises

It's March, and right on cue, we've reached the number of episodes necessary to create a March Madness style bracket to determine the best one! Or, to put it another way, happy Sweet Sixteen! This mathematically elegant podcast covers the episode of NXT that originally aired on September 4th, 2013, which means it includes:

  • Arts and crafts, the Camel Clutch, and other #RusevThings
  • White sheets and saxophone solos
  • Scott Dawson's love of Sizzler (and of flossing afterward)
  • Face and heel turns, explained
  • Paige's sex appeal (and apparent surveillance system)
  • Bo Dallas just won't go away (but Jack Swagger thankfully will)
  • The best possible version of The Great Gatsby

Also in this episode, we give a shout-out to Josh Vaske-Huff and their tireless work transforming NXT performers into D&D characters. You can find the series here.

Coming off the glory that was last episode's historic main event, what does Episode #15 have in store for our unsuspecting hosts? Well, Sami Zayn gets unwillingly draped in the Gadsden Flag and Enzo Amore is inexplicably getting cheered, so...yeah. Still, our coverage of the NXT show that originally aired on August 28th, 2013, has a few things to recommend it, such as:

  • The coldest of cold opens
  • Summer Rae's half nelson leglock
  • Rusev endearing himself to MeganBob by punching Colin Cassady in the head
  • The gross irony of WWE's anti-bullying campaigns
  • Conor O'Brian: Dad or Daddy?
  • The prevalence of the distraction finish
  • A history lesson from the 99

Well folks, we did it. We've arrived at Episode #14, something Miles has been looking forward to since the early days of this podcast. Because now we get to cover the episode of NXT that originally aired on August 21, 2013, and the main event of that episode is the stuff of legend. NXT had already been getting acclaim for its presentation of the women's division, but this two-out-of-three falls match between Sami Zayn and Cesaro is what truly put NXT on the map, and became the standard by which everything that came afterward was judged. It is THE classic NXT match, and there's no better way to celebrate it than by bringing on fellow NXT enthusiast and the host of Megadumbcast, Kris Newton. We ask him some questions about his relationship with pro wrestling before getting into the episode, which includes:

  • NXT's first (and only) AJ Lee match
  • A merciless act of photobombing
  • The 2/3 falls match between Zayn and Cesaro
  • More fun with vampiric back rubs
  • Wrestlers who are more agile than their body types indicate they have a right to be
  • The 2/3 falls match between Zayn and Cesaro
  • Also there's a hippie in the ring for some reason
  • The 2/3 falls match between Zayn and Cesaro
  • THE 2/3 FALLS MATCH BETWEEN ZAYN AND CESARO, NO, WE ARE NOT OVERSELLING THIS

  • Twelve contestants, count 'em. TWELVE.
  • Paul is fancy, British Guy Fieri
  • It's fun to say drizzle cake
  • No one is as cool as Selasi
  • What do Jaffa Cakes look like, anyway?
  • Mary Berry hates plants, apparently
  • Andrew might be a vampire
  • Miles really likes puns

The 13th edition of The NXT Wrestling Fan has arrived, and it's luckier than Corey Graves' finisher! Why so lucky, you ask? Is it because Cesaro screams "ZAAAAAAAYN" like he's just been left to die on the Regula I research station? Yes. Yes, it is. Also because it covers the episode of NXT that originally aired on August 14th, 2013, which means it includes:

  • Sami Zayn's ethnic identity and other subjects of rigorous academic study
  • Paul Heyman Guys, featuring Paul Heyman
  • The full range of quality in 2013 main roster characters, from AJ Lee to Dolph Ziggler
  • The dangers of ineffective wrestling parenting
  • Dean Ambrose can't be Jon Moxley, he wears glasses
  • The first-ever edition of Wrestling History of the Week
  • A series of increasingly deadly reveals
  • Where do hippies come from, anyway?

Happy holidays, wrestling fans and cautious newcomers! We give you the gift of the NXT episode that originally aired on July 31st, 2013, and which for some reason involved a comically absurd level of dance content! In this episode:

  • MeganBob asks Miles about masculinity in wrestling and is not prepared for the ensuing TED Talk
  • A farewell to swamp cultists
  • In defense of S-O-F-T, which is (a) spelled correctly, and (b) punk as fuck

  • Why am submission holds
  • The squashing of Spider-Man

Episode eight started as a normal episode and then it became clear that there was a theme underlying it: a certain...royal quality, a touch of Regalness, if you will. Episode eight falls in love with (almost) every minute of the episode of NXT that originally aired on July 10th, 2013. Also featured in this episode:

  • Fanservice for the win, possibly literally
  • Paige and Emma are dubbed #Bubblegoth
  • A wild Ric Flair appears! Wooo!

As we all know, seven is the most powerful podcasting number, so it is with great arcane energy that we present the seventh episode of The NXT Wrestling Fan, covering the episode of NXT that originally aired on July 3rd, 2013. We're also gonna say that Cesaro's sudden decision to join a group called "The Real Americans" is the result of him having been placed under some kind of spell. Makes more sense than any other explanation. Also on this episode:

  • Rick Victor motivates his vampire lover with promises of sexual deviancy, because #GothHusbands
  • Alicia Fox is too good for the career she actually had
  • We have (even more)(super intense) feelings about William Regal
  • Rob Van Dam, explained
  • A primer on suplexes
  • Enzo Amore is good at many things, but none of them are wrestling
  • Important lessons for children courtesy of Bray Wyatt, before that was a thing

  • An unexpected dearth of xenophobia

On this pre-launch primer episode:

  • Miles and Bob briefly explain how and why this podcast exists
  • Miles explains the fundamental basics of pro wrestling, including the ring, the rules, and the referee
