After being in business for one year, I wrote a blog post listing out the big lessons I learned in those first 12 months. Welcome to episode 2.07 of Your Biz, Your Rules. I know last week I said that this episode was going to be all about what lets most coaches and healers down but... I changed my mind. If you were looking forward to my little rant, don't worry, I will record that one at some point, but today something else felt a bit more pressing. I've heard a few people describe themselves as feeling a bit foggy or a bit unsure recently, so I thought I'd share 3 of my very favourite ways to find clarity for real.

This week we are diving into...
...money!
I know that it's one of those topics that can plague us in the most profound of ways but today we're going to be looking at a number of simple ways that you can use to stop yourself doing battle with your bank balance.
You can feel friendly with your finances and that's what we're going to explore in this episode.
Your Challenge: Make sure you share your homework tagging #yourbizyourrules and @dairepaddy
Get really clear on what is coming in and what is going out of your accounts. Have a clear idea of what money is left.
If you've already done this, think about what your goals are with your money and what you plan to fo with any money that is left at the end of each month (give every £ a job).
For the next week, every time you think about money, just be aware of what you are feeling and where that feeling is coming from.
Share your takeaways, your ah-ha moments etc. with us at the end of the week on Instagram.

I've been thinking a lot about business advice, particularly the type of business advice you get when you invest in courses, coaches, masterminds etc. that you invest in within the first few years of your business.
I've noticed a trend of people promoting this mindset that you have to be willing to do anything and everything, you have to hustle, and you have to get things done in order to be successful. It's just exhausting.
I'm done with this hustler mentality. I've decided that from now on, I'm not willing to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.
Your challenge: Make a list of 3 things that you're no longer willing to do in your life or in your business.
Share a post or Story with your 3 things over on Instagram.

If you're a regular listener, you'll know that I love a bit of productivity chat.
It's no secret that I've been caught in the morning routine spiral more than once or twice - I've read the books, I've listened to the podcasts - I've given it a really good bash!
After much trial and error, I've come to a very clear conclusion: a new morning routine is not the thing that will suddenly make me successful.
In this episode, I'm sharing what I've found and what might help you too.

The topic of self-care or self-kindness isn’t a new one. You can’t spend more than 30 seconds on Instagram without seeing some sort of aspirational self-care quote. But it goes beyond that and goes much deeper than that.
In this episode, I’m joined by the incredible Jennifer Pirtle to talk about this.
This is going to be a great episode for anyone who either feels like they’re too connected digitally and it’s impacting the amount of self-care that they are able to give themselves and those of you who identify as people-pleasers!

At the beginning of 2019, I read a book called Pick Three by Randi Zuckerberg. The premise is simple – we can’t focus on everything every day, but we can focus on 3 things. This idea took hold, so something I encouraged my Unshakeable Goals students to do this year was to identify just THREE priority zones for themselves. The three key areas they’d like to focus their attention on this year, and I decided to do the same... I feel like I'm known as a planner, an organiser, a person who lives for colour-coded to do lists... and while in part that's true, I'm starting to feel a bit over it. Every year for as long as I can remember, I've bought a fancy new planner created by a fancy and successful entrepreneur and got super excited about filling it in... only for all my good goals and intentions to fall away mid January. So, after realising just how disatisfying I've been finding other people's planning systems, I decided to create my own. Something filled with a nice mix of mayhem, momentum and magic, just like me. A few months ago, I decided I wanted to shake up the way I stay in touch with my list. Previously, everyone received an email on a Monday that was part of an evergreen email sequence, and an email on a Thursday, promoting the latest episode of this podcast. Great in theory (because I could be very hands off) but as a creator, it wasn’t much fun… and I always think that comes across when people are reading our stuff.
So I decided to put together a new Thursday newsletter that was part online magazine, part personal update, and part round-up of important info. I have to say, it’s been great. Every single week I receive responses to what I send out AND I get a whole bunch of Instagram comments and DMs with people telling me how much they love it.
So what’s the secret to creating a cracking newsletter that converts i.e. is more than just a fun thing?

So... I'm about to do a scary thing. This is probably the most vulnerable, most potentially embarrassing thing I've ever shared on the internet, but I've done it for a reason.

Disclaimer: No sales tactics and strategies here lovely ones, more the bits and pieces on how to have a more positive and less painful launch. The key takeaways: A is for Assets
As in create EVERYTHING before cart open. Seriously.
B is for Boundaries and Batch cooking!
Do your loved ones really know what to expect? Or what you need from them? Like feeding, for example.
C is for Clearing the decks
I tried to do my usual amount of client work – not my best idea. So clear as much of that as you can before you go.
D is for Delegate
Make sure you have the professional support you need, are there tasks which you can use a tool to accomplish if you don’t have a team – help doesn’t have to cost a lot.
E is for Entice yo’self
I had a chart, obvs. For each 5 sales I had a “reward”. Crystals, courses, art…anything which motivates you works. Gamify it up and make the sales enticing for a reason other than just the numbers.
F is for Future content
All that content you made for your launch? Reuse it! I went live every day on Instagram during launch week and every time I did, I hit record on Audacity…boom! 3 podcasts.

The key takeaways: * Yes it IS possible to create a super successful online business without a strict content plan, but if you get at all distracted it’s probably not the best way for you * Taking a holiday is HARD but it is possible. Finding the RIGHT clients is a big part of it and working on a retainer means as long as the hours are done for that month it doesn’t really matter if I’m away for a week. * 15 minutes to repurpose your video content challenge? HELLZ YEAH. 3 mediums, text and video, emails and quotes. BOOM. You’ll love this tip. * We all get derailed from our to-do list. When it happens, step away for 5 minutes to reset and then get back and get the thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Hint: Find the quick wins ;-)
Your challenge: To be in with a chance of winning this month's free 1:1 coaching session, make sure you share your homework tagging #yourbizyourrules and @dairecharlotte Taking inspiration from my 15 minute repurposing hack, I want you to grab a piece of your old content and a timer, and see how many pieces of new content you can create from it. The key takeaways: * Badass rule #1: own and recognise your value. * Badass rule #2: take pride in your work and spend some time getting clear on just how good you are at what you do, and how you transform lives. * Just because you decide to be unfiltered, doesn’t mean that you have to be rude and use swear words left, right and centre. Just as being authentic doesn’t mean you have to go live in your PJs. It’s all about the thought, intention and values you want to communicate in your marketing. (Note from Daire: However, I will continue to swear and go live in my PJs, ok?) * The need to blend in, especially for women, usually comes from a place of fear. STOP THAT NOW. * You need to figure out not only what you stand for, but what you stand against.

The key takeaways: * You can’t just show up online and do things, you need to actively tell people about your services. You need to actively sell, and you need to actually tell people, “Hey come and sign up for this course,” or, “Come and get this free resource,” or, “Come and book a call with me.” And if you do it enough times, when people are ready, they will reach out to you. * If you want a stress free approach, you need to organize yourself. Because if you don’t have a process, it’s a mess, and it’s not going to work, it’s as simple as that. * Think like a CEO, check everything, plan everything and have a solid pipeline. * Get over yourself and understand that you either will work on it and make friends with sales, or you might as well stop having your business.

The key takeaways: * On being visible: No one gets a free pass on doing the work. “I’m an introvert” is not a get out of jail free card. Conquer your fears and get out there. * The underlying reason behind people-pleasing is usually fear. * You can’t set boundaries for others before you get your self-love in order, otherwise, you’ll be the one crossing them all the time. * More often than not the “problem” with your business is not your niche, business model or anything else external. You have to look in the mirror rather than looking at the different concepts of your business.

The key takeaways: * Disruption is necessary. Stand up and stand proud of your beliefs. Stop censoring yourself through fear of how saying what you feel will be perceived. * The money is in the mistakes. If you’re going to lose your proverbial every time something goes wrong, well your day in the sun is not about to be a long one. * Make your why bigger than your fear. When I say bigger it doesn’t have to mean deeply profound but it does have to be utterly true for YOU. * You can always make it easier. Easier things are more fun, we do more things because they are fun, we make all the monies. Brilliantly simple * Being surrounded by the right team is priceless. Obvious but SO true. I know how it feels to have a team who are not there for you. No bueno. * Pay attention, you do have people. I spend my days in a room with 2 dogs, this was well out of my comfort zone. But being with the “right” people made it easy to make connections * Bring your past into your present. My previous corporate job did not end well and so any mention of events or any part of the old way sent me running for the hills. But guess what, it didn’t have to be that way! I removed that block and things couldn’t have gone better. * I am the playlist queen. FACT. If you’d like to check it out I’ll drop the link below. * You ARE making a difference. We all feel the same disappointment when we have low engagement on our posts or launch to crickets BUT you never know who is watching and taking it in. * Putting your intentions out there is powerful. Before I left for Elevate live I posted that I had a one to one spot available. I had 3 people approach me. So you tell me, does that sound like a coincidence? I think not.

If you spend any amount of time in the personal development world, or if you work with any kind of coach, you hear a lot about mindset blocks and limiting beliefs, and all of that jazz. Sometimes that can feel dead overwhelming. I mean, where do we even start?
The key takeaways: * On a very practical level, particularly if you are in business, your limiting beliefs or blocks will stop you from achieving the things that you want to achieve. And actually probably even more important than that they will keep you in patterns of behaviour that are quite miserable. They limit your choices. They limit the possibilities. It’s like we’re living our life or running our business by a set of rules. And they’re a set of rules that we did not make for ourselves. * It’s usually a really good idea to follow the things that make you feel uncomfortable, the things you avoid doing. Those are usually a really good indicator that there’s something there that needs further exploration. * Go through all of the different aspects of your business. Look at your money, look at your content, look at your marketing, your visibility. Look at your planning and strategy. Look at how you manage your time. Look at your clients. What feels amazing? What doesn’t? Take note. Those “ugh” feelings are the signposts for inner work. * Kirsty also talked me through some specific tips for high-achievers (ahem, so most of us), so give the episode a listen for those.

The key takeaways: Content overwhelm is a very real monster, especially for those high-achieving perfectionist types cough. Here are three of my favourite tips for stripping things back and making your digital footprint feel more FUN: 1. Template everything. And when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. Not just your visuals. Templates can do wonders for your written content workflow too. (Listen to the full episode for a couple of ways to create your own content templates.) 2. Block out your time and get specific with that time. Book out your content creation time in your calendar but don't stop there - assign specific tasks from your content workflow to your different time slots. 3. Make something sacred. Choose ONE piece of content that will become your non-negotiable every single week. Consider this the bare minimum that you'd be happy to publish (consistently).

Note to all: I am not yet a fully-fledged adult BUT I do think there’s a certain level of “grown-up” required when you’re the boss of things.
10 tips for better adulting: 1. Take responsibility for the way you’re feeling and behaving. 2. Don’t get complacent – keep the momentum going as you develop your brain and your business. 3. Set real goals and plans that line up with those goals. 4. Create all of the boundaries. Boundaries with yourself, with your clients, with your loved ones and with your working environment. 5. Put some thought into what you’re feeding yourself. Is it fuelling your brain? Is it giving you the energy you need to stay focused? 6. Be intentional with your screen time. 7. Say “no” when you mean “no”. Nobody wants to hear a resentful “yes”. 8. Invest in some blue blocker glasses. 9. Remove yourself from toxic conversations. 10. Implement all of the magnificent things you already have access to before buying anything new.

Learn how to spend your time, energy and money on purpose.
The key takeaways: * It’s hard to be good at your business if you don’t have a life. * One of the things that is really important is for us to be intentional about the things that we let into our lives, whether that’s the TV shows we watch, the friendships that we have, the Instagram accounts that we follow. All of those things affect us in ways that we don’t necessarily immediately realise. When someone’s Instagram account makes you feel less than, unfollow them. Instead, actively seek out the things that bring you joy or inspiration. * We are worth looking nice just to look in the mirror. We are worth a nice meal that takes 30 seconds to plate. We are worth the bed that has been made that makes our whole room feel nicer. We don’t just have to save those things for when other people are around. It makes us feel better, and when we feel better, we’re better employees, we’re better entrepreneurs, we’re better partners. * Ask for what you want! * You are the only one who can decide to change your habit. If you are trying to change a habit out of obligation, or shame, or because you’re trying to keep up with other people in your life, it’s not going to work.

Fancy your own aligned community filled with lovely, lovely humans? In this episode, I'm chatting with tribe-building expert Julie Creffield about how you can do just that.
The key takeaways: * People are people, whether they’re online or offline. Community at its core is about having a group of people with a shared vision – a shared sense of ownership. * Entrepreneurs often go about this the wrong way – they think that by creating space for a community it’s going to happen. The tribe is not the Facebook group – that’s simply the platform. * There will always be fools who feel the need to comment… but often that backlash is what will attract the right people. (And remember – if you let everyone into your tribe, you let the idiots in too). * A tribe is a two-way thing. You might be the leader, but they will inspire and challenge you as you go. Be open to that. Your community may not always be your “ideal customers” – they can still be valuable human beings to have in your network.

Want to make extra sure you're not being a d*ck online? Then this one's for you.
4 things that make you look like a dick on social media: * Using your channel as a broadcasting platform and nothing more. * Sending auto DMs. * Promoting (and collaborating with brands) non-stop. * Bringing the negativity.
My fave quotes from this episode (highlight to share)
Think about how to be human online, and not just an entity.
The auto DM is DEVIL SPAWN.
Don’t use negativity as a tool to get you noticed.

Want to know how I plan my workday without a planner? Or the Instagram Story secrets for when time is tight? Then listen on.
The questions I dive into: * What planner are you using this year? * Do you buy into this whole “word of the year” thing? * Do you have any Instagram Story prompts for when things are busy but you still want to show up? * What are you reading right now? * What scheduler do you use for social media?
The Instagram Story prompts: 1. Film a short video talking about how busy and scattered you are. (Great for connection building.) 2. Cross-post everything you post to your grid. 3. Scroll through your feed and share any inspiring quotes from the people you follow. 4. Create a batch of quotes from your old content. 5. Knock up a handful of “fill in the blank” Story templates.

In this episode, I'm joined by coach for freelancers, Emma Cossey, and we're talking you through all the different habits and routines we use to keep us on the ball.
Annual habits that make us feel “on it”: * (Emma) Books a half-day session with Daire to get all of her content mapped out for the year. * (Emma) Reviews the year – especially all of the wins. * (Daire) Revisits her business strategy which prompts her to look at her goals, sales, feelings about stuff and habits/routines that make it all happen. * (Daire) Set a reading target for the year.
Quarterly habits that pave the way to productivity: * (Emma + Daire) Set 90 day goals – Emma does her planning on paper, Daire uses Asana. * (Emma + Daire) Take a break. Note: this is a shiny new habit for 2019 – keep us accountable! * (Emma) Assigns rewards to all of goals (POINTS MAKE PRIZES).
Monthly habits for maximum success: * (Emma + Daire) Book a day out for self-care * (Emma) Books one nice thing to do every month (and encourages her community to do the same) * (Emma) Goes through all the praise and recommendations she’s received that month and puts it in a “lovely things” folder. * (Daire) Setting aside one day for training and personal development. * (Daire) Works through her “bitching month blueprint” checklist.
Weekly habits for absolute winners: * (Emma) Spends Sunday nights planning. * (Emma) On a Monday shares her goals publicly with her group. * (Emma) Commits to doing something for Pitch Slap Wednesday. * (Emma) Spends some time promoting her stuff in different Facebook groups. * (Daire) Batches her Instagram posts on a Monday. * (Daire) Hosts a weekly co-working session for Content Arsenal members. * (Emma + Daire) Have a weekly accountability call together. * (Daire) Guards Fridays for working on HER business stuff. * (Daire) Works through a “weekly review” checklist

Overwhelmed, stressed and frustrated with your content system? You're not alone.
In this ep, I'm sharing 5 of the most common mistakes I see people make in their content plans, and how to fix them. Quickly.
The big mistakes: 1. Overcomplicating the planning system itself. 2. Focusing on all of the platforms and all of the strategies. 3. Planning in silos. 4. Panicking about using up all the ideas. 5. Failing to plan for the action
Try this instead: 1. Go back to basics and use a simple spreadsheet to plan out all of your content. You’ll find a link to (a free) one I made earlier below. 2. Pick ONE form of content as your focus (i.e. a podcast, a blog, a video show, etc) and ONE platform where you’ll show up and connect (Instagram, Facebook groups, LinkedIn, etc). 3. If you want to try out a system or strategy created by someone you admire, GREAT. Go for it. But limit yourself to one at a time. 4. Give yourself a good talking to and remind yourself that you don’t need to use the ideas as they hit you. Instead, stash them somewhere safe for next time you sit down to plan your content (such as the “ideas” tab in my content planning template, for example). 5. After putting together your fabulous content plan, head to your calendar and block out chunks of time to actually create all of those things in your plan.

This time of year is full of people sharing their New Year's resolutions, their big juicy goals, their words of the year... and all that stuff is great fun if you're a die-hard planner too.
But if you're not, or you are but you're not quite feeling the planning buzz this year, that's ok too. You can turn it around, and still get the mojo and motivation that crazy cats like me get from a bit of goal-setting, and in this ep I'll be showing you how.
If you don’t know what you want, here’s a journaling exercise to help you out: Down the left-hand side of your page, write out the numbers 1-25 and then finish this sentence for me: I want to be the kind of person who… and do it 25 times.
It’s supposed to feel challenging – the first 5-10 will be relatively easy but then you have to go deeper. Don’t overthink this, write down whatever comes to mind.
Examples:
And then if it’s the “how do I make it happen?” question that plagues you… My biggest tip is to sit down with a cup of tea and a notebook and make your achievement plan. What I mean by that, is list out all of those goals and intentions, and brainstorm all the tactics that will help you do all the things you’re dreaming of.
Examples:

Recently I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days with a gaggle of inspiring and successful women - here are my big takeaways.
Commitment #1: Growing a real tribe is essential. Having a tribe is so important. If they’re likeminded introverts who “get” the online business game, all the better. It could be a team thing like this was, it could be a mastermind group, or it could be a gang of biz buddies you’ve connected to online.
Commitment #2: We all belong at the top of our own list of priorities. The thing we all had in common? Self-care was last on the list. One of my favourite moments was where we went around the table sharing our new self-care commitments so that we could hold each other accountable. Some of the goals that came up were:
Commitment #3: Focusing on the one thing is what will move our business forward. Another commonality is that we all live to serve… but that doesn’t always serve us or our own businesses. There was a lot of discussion around stripping things back to focus on one core goal or one core offer as we head into the New Year so that the thing can truly become the priority we say it is.
I want to encourage you to do the same. Pick one core service or product that you’re going to lead with in 2019. That’s the overall strategy. The tactics, you can mix up. The “how” of selling and promotion? That’s the stuff you can have fun with.

Stop feeling like your digital (and mental) workspace is inundated with STUFF today.
Things to declutter from your headspace: * All of the login details for previous clients or even your old accounts from things. * Everything in your downloads folder. If you didn’t open up or file the thing right away, what are the chance you’ll actually ever need to go back and find it? * Dissatisfactory stationery. Any paper that tears too easily. Any pens that don’t write smoothly. Any post-its that don’t stick. * All the things on your Amazon wishlist that you don’t actually want. * Facebook friends that you wouldn’t cross the road to say hi to. * People you follow on Instagram that don’t inspire you or interest you in some way. Mood hoovers and obligation follows BE GONE. * Unnecessary email folders. If something has been actioned, delete. If something might need to be referenced later, archive. If something will need chasing at a later date, go ahead and add it as a task on your to-do list (I use the Gmail Asana add-on for this)

Want to make a change in your work-world? This is how I do it.
The key takeaways: * Figure out exactly what change you want to make, and then find a way to hold yourself accountable. You could set an alarm on your phone. You could share your intention with the people in your life. You could create a recurring Asana task. You could block out time in your calendar. Just look for a way to keep yourself on track. * A great option is to participate in a free challenge created by somebody who inspires you. Here are a few to ponder: + If you want to supercharge your personal brand, I recommend Own Your Brilliance with Jo Gifford. In a nutshell, over 5 days you’ll be pulling out all those strands of brilliance that make you YOU, and turning them into messaging that attracts the right kind of people into your orbit. (Sign up any time) + If you want to hit all of your business goals in the year to come, I recommend The Success Shake-Up with Gemma Went. Over the 5 days you’ll be looking at everything you’ve accomplished (or not) over the past year, and weaving those lessons into a rock-solid strategy for 2019. (Kicks off December 3rd) + If self-care is your Achilles heel, I recommend The Self-Love Advent with Mel Wells. Every day from December 1st until December 25th you’ll receive a love letter and mini challenge in your inbox, designed to help you bring way more self-love into your world.

Introvert? Workaholic? This one's for you.
On surviving the humans when you work from home: * If you work from home, you need your solo time. If you also identify as an introvert, even more so. That’s ok. If you have someone there, invading your zen, it’s ok not to like it. It doesn’t mean you’re a terrible person or that you don’t love them. * Figuring out a new routine that factors in another person is HARD. * As with your clients, you’ve got to have rock solid boundaries with the people you love. This isn’t a hobby, it’s a business you’re building. Yes, that might lead to some difficult conversations, but what’s the alternative? Compromising progress on your goals? Slowing down your business so that someone else feels free to be noisy?
On creating more joy in your life and business: * We all work so hard to create a life we love, so if you’re not loving it, it’s time to take action. * Idea #1: I’m going to create a mammoth list of all the things that have ever brought me joy or made me feel happy, or enthusiastic, or excited about life (big or small) and then I’m simply going to start working through them. Who knows? I might just be able to bring back a bit of that magic… * Idea #2: Buy a paper diary or calendar for 2019 and book in the things that fuel you. Think holidays and self-care days. Think personal development time and planning sessions. Think events you’ve always wanted to go to and a treat each month to make all the work-work-work worth it.

The secrets to great content (and more).
The key takeaways: * Being organised and being entrepreneurial are not mutually exclusive. An entrepreneurial mind dreams the dreams, an organised mind makes the dreams happen. * Ride the waves of inspiration if you can, but always be strategic. * Talking politics is a great way to showcase your values and polarise your audience, but if that’s the way you want to go, you need to be prepared to deal with the keyboard warriors. * The three things you NEED for great content are clarity, personality and consistency. I dig into each of these in more detail in the ep, so do give it a listen. * You can repurpose a great piece of evergreen content until the end of time, but get creative with the way you do it.

Feel more excited in your business.
The key takeaways: * Planning as a group is an amazing way to amp up your enthusiasm. It gets your juices flowing, makes you look at things from a different perspective and creates momentum that you don’t get when you’re going solo. * Batching is brilliant. My crazy plan for 2019 is to publish a blog post every single week, outside of these podcast show notes. I bet you’re thinking, “that doesn’t sound so crazy”, but the crazy part is that I’m intending to create and schedule every single one of those before the end of this year. * Identify your big problem areas and work on THOSE. You don’t have to take in all the lessons, for all the things, all the time. One of mine is feeling good about selling because right now I do it, but I don’t love it. * I’m swiping Denise Duffield-Thomas‘s idea of having “Now, Next, Later” lists as a way to log and prioritise all of my ideas – farewell, shiny object syndrome! * Creating content every day (note I said CREATING and not PUBLISHING) has a whole bunch of positive side effects. It makes you feel more present in your business, it helps you focus, it encourages you to celebrate your wins and it pushes you to get more creative.

The title says it all.
The “bitching month” blueprint: 1. Review your list of goals. Is there anything you can tick off? Anything that’s no longer relevant? Anything that needs tweaking? 2. Take a look at your daily productivity process. Are you staying focused? How are you managing your tasks? Is there anything that seems to be falling through the gaps? Do you feel good as you work? Do you need a new app or project management system? 3. Note down your struggles. Is there a skill you’re lacking? Is there something you find particularly boring, or time-consuming, or difficult? Think about where you can either outsource or learn. 4. Analyse your daily routines, specifically: morning, break time, end of work day, end of day day. What really works for you? What doesn’t? What would make you feel better? 5. Clear your desktops, both physical and digital. 6. Tackle your inbox. Follow up on anything outstanding, delete anything no longer needed, archive anything you may want to refer back to later. 7. Track the money stuff. Send any invoices that go out manually. Chase anyone who hasn’t paid. Log your incomings and outgoings. 8. Set your intentions for the month ahead and then identify something you can do to make those things happen. (Note: I like to have a “feeling” intention and a “money” intention, but that’s just me.)

If you want to find your content priority and banish the "shoulds" for good, this one's for you.
Tricks for getting out of the morning funk: 1. Braindump everything in a journal. All of the thoughts whirling around your head. Follow that up with a list of things you’re grateful for and a list of the big goals you’re working towards. 2. Declutter and deep clean your desk. 3. Put something zesty in your essential oil diffuser – I like to start the day with 2 drops of lime, 2 drops of grapefruit and 2 drops of peppermint. (NOTE: grapefruit oil can interact with some medications so do your research first). 4. Switch on a delightfully cheesy playlist. 5. Go through your emails, messaging apps and any project management tools and capture EVERYTHING that needs to be done, and pop them in one central location. That makes it much easier to review and rejig your to-do list to make sure it’s extra manageable.
How to find your content priority: 1. Look at all of the places where you have a digital presence and pick ONE place to share your core content and ONE place to connect with your community. 2. Out of all the things you’d like to be sharing each week, pick ONE piece of content that’s sacred. This is the one that you will commit to sharing no matter what. The others you can let go of if things get busy, but this one thing should stay consistent. For me, that’s my Instagram Stories.

Struggle to focus on your biggest priorities? Yes? Then this one's for you.
My 90 day planning system: * Set some time aside on the Friday before the new quarter starts. If you just try to fit your planning around everyday tasks, it will fall to the bottom of your list. * Review all of the different things in your business – your last 90 day plan, your current product portfolio/1:1 clients, new ideas you’ve had, your working habits, your finances (incoming and outgoing), what has and hasn’t worked (and WHY). * Figure out what your income target is and then get specific about HOW you can bring that money in. What will you need to sell? How many spots do you need to fill? * What events do you need to take into account? Are you launching? Attending weekly calls? Taking part in a free challenge? Going on holiday? Joining weekly co-working sessions? List out all of these things and add them to your calendar of choice. * Limit yourself to three goals – I tend to have one life goal and two business-related goals. * Redesign your habits – everything from morning rituals, daily break times and self-care routines. I then add these to Asana so I’m prompted to do it at the appropriate time.

In this week's episode I'm addressing two struggles that so many self-employed types face:
The key takeaways: * When things get busy and overwhelming, it’s so easy to retreat into yourself and break all the promises you’ve made with regards to your own business. If it happens, nobody will die, you’ll be fine, just recommit to your intentions tomorrow. That might mean sticking post-its everywhere, or setting Asana reminders, or arranging “in person” meets with friends. * Knowing what you ARE willing to do and AREN’T willing to do is important. The same goes for HOW you want to feel and the relationships you want to have.
New additions to the Content Arsenal: * The monthly book club * Weekly Q&A sessions * Weekly virtual coworking sessions
My simple tip for sales page success: Think about the last three things you bought online and open up their sales pages. For each page, grab a fresh piece of paper and list out all the elements that make it up. When you’re done, look at all your notes critically and use them to inspire your own sales page template. If it doesn’t convert the way you’d like it to (and you’re doing all the sales activity), come back and have a play around. Shuffle sections about, tweak, test, try new things. That’s it. no need to overcomplicate.

Do you feel like you have mornings "down"? Like you've perfected a little ritual designed to fuel your days and supercharge your success?
This is one of the things I've been working on recently, and in this episode, I'm sharing where I am with that. I'm also talking about a book that's inspiring some day-by-day changes AND the biggest thing(s) I got from being part of a small business mastermind experience.
The key takeaways: * I go through phases of LOVING my morning routine, but after a while, it starts to feel a bit stagnant. That’s why I like to mix it up every now and again. My biggest tip is to think of all the things that make you feel good, and then pick out little bits and pieces that you can weave into those early hours. * If you say you want to finish work early… FINISH WORK EARLY. I’ve set a “30-minute” warning to remind me when I need to start thinking about powering down (because I’m a child, and I need that prompt). * Occasionally my dog drinks water really loudly while I’m recording. Sorry. * Connecting with other women in business can be a life-saver – especially if you have a tendency to isolate yourself whenever you feel stressed or overwhelmed. One of the benefits of being in a mastermind is that you’re encouraged to rely on others and build that amazing support network. * Stop coasting! Take a moment to think strategically about what you want from your life and your business. No more riding the bland waves of consistency.

The do's and don'ts of being an affiliate AND inspiration to make your life and biz a bit more lovely.
The do’s and don’ts of affiliate marketing: * If you throw nonsense at your people without much discernment, they’ll stop trusting your word… and then where will you be? Only promote the products that you would shout loud about even without the promise of a commission. * Share the difference something has made to YOU, rather than trying to con people with shiny sales speak. * Don’t avoid affiliate marketing simply because of its reputation. You can do this with integrity. * Tell your story in relation to the product, whether that’s the benefits you’ve seen yourself or a signature system you’ve developed using a particular tool. * Put the work in. Earn your commission. This is not about free money.
Other key takeaways: * What the brain knows and what the brain does are two very different things. * Do the things that make you feel like a person instead of a workaholic robot. * If you have eyes or ears, you should get a copy of The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. * I started a book club!

Episode 50 is here and to celebrate I'm answering all of the wacky questions submitted by my online community.
The questions I hit in this episode: * What do you when people want to pick your brains (for free) and then credit their success to everyone but you? * How do you deal with clients always tagging you in posts and expecting you to share everything? * What would you tell 13-year-old Daire? * What are your top three productivity hacks? * How often should you raise your rates? * If you could choose anyone at all to be your mentor, who would it be? * What do you wish you’d implemented sooner in your business? * What is the best procrastination technique in your arsenal? * What is your favourite biscuit? * What’s the worst habit you have in your business life? * If you could only have one type of cheese forever, would you even bother living? * What’s the best kind of dog for entrepreneurial life? * Who is your favourite wizard? * What have you learned about yourself from starting your own business? * Why are you always showing your tits online? * What spell would you use, if you could use any?

I’m diving into one of the worst sales experiences OF MY LIFE (not being dramatic at all), a new personal mission of mine and a little bit of something worth celebrating.
Because there’s always something worth celebrating.
The key takeaways: * There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with using sales scripts if that’s what you need to feel a bit more confident with selling. * You cannot control other people’s reactions to your content (or to life in general). You can only control your own actions, so make sure those align with your values and shiz. * We can’t resolve every single conflict that comes into our space. Sometimes we have to learn to let things go. (I know, I know, I’m still working on this one.) * If something happens that calls your integrity into question, reach out to the people involved. * When you’re showing up and being more visible in your business, you WILL trigger reactions from people, both good and bad. None of that has anything to do with you. That’s their stuff. * Shockingly, squishing down your brain junk doesn’t actually fix anything. If you want to see a change in your mind (and in your life) you’ve got to be willing to work on your personal development. * Carve out some time to work on yourself. We all put this time and effort into our businesses, but we don’t put the same focus on our minds… and if you run a business, your mind needs to be BULLETPROOF!

The key takeaways: * The struggle often lies with balancing the time and energy you give to your clients and the time and energy you invest in growing your own business – especially if you work with other online business owners. My biggest tip is to calendarise the “your biz” time so you can keep that customer pipeline topped up. Make this work for you, but the way I do it is to have Fridays as a super-strict MY BUSINESS day and then commit to doing one small thing that will move my business forward Monday to Thursday. * It can often feel like you’re pouring content into an internet vacuum, but ask yourself this: how often do you engage with other people’s content? Think of the content game as community karma – if you give the love, you’ll get the love. Tell those creators you adore just how much they’ve impacted you. * If you follow any sort of goal-setting system, there can be a bit of pressure to dream up the perfect goals at the perfect time… but that’s pressure you don’t need. Give yourself permission to follow your muse WHEN SHE ARRIVES. You don’t have to hunt her down with a shotgun.

Ever worried that you don't know what you don't know? Then this one's for you.
The key takeaways: * People think learning has to be boring and it doesn’t. A lot of the things that you learn as a freelancer, or as a self-employed entrepreneur, are really fun. There are sales classes out there that teach you how to do sales in a fun, comfortable, non-icky way. There are so many different ways of doing things, that can actually turn the scary thing into a fun thing. * A really important part of learning is the confidence and the control you get. One of the reasons I decided to start this podcast in the first place was that I wanted to explore all of these ways that you can build a business that feels good, that suits your own personality and isn’t just the done thing. I think that’s a really important thing to remember, because you can find experts out there that mesh with you, mesh with your values, mesh with your casual pace, and can teach you how to improve in certain areas. It’s not like they’re all working off a curriculum. * You know yourself, what you’ve got time for, what you’ve got energy for. So you can find the things that suit that. If you’ve just got five minutes while you’re making a cuppa, listen to a short podcast. Learning doesn’t have to be signing up for a huge course. It can be sitting down for half an hour with a video series or mini-course. * There may be all these learning opportunities out there, just remember DISCERNMENT. Just because there are a lot of podcasts you could listen to, or courses you could find, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should listen or sign up for all of them. Quality over quantity. It’s okay to follow someone for a while and get what you need from them, and then switch up and start following somebody else a little more closely when that’s the sort of stuff that you need.

I'm giving you permission to LOUNGE.
Yep, no more worrying that your acts of self-care aren't glittery or Instagrammable enough - this week we're talking about the importance of embracing the things that feeeeel good!
10 wildly refuelling acts of self-care to get you started: * Dive into a big bowl of cheesy pasta. * Give yourself a pedicure (yes this DOES count because NOBODY should be taking pictures of their feet. * Wear your comfiest, most threadbare PJs and snuggle up with the dogs. * Go for a long walk somewhere filled with nature… with no signal or internet access. * Take a long, hot shower. * Dig out a little area of your garden and plant some fun things. Ok, this one might become Instagram-worthy, but right now it’ll just look like mud. * Laugh along to a workout video from the early ’90s (my vote goes to Cher’s, she’s just fabulous) * Lose a few hours on The Sims * Create a fun new playlist and dance around the room like nobody’s watching… because nobody is. * Binge watch some reality TV. Without any shame or guilt.

Want to know everything that will help you win at business?Yes? Then just listen to this episode. You're welcome.
The key takeaways: * When you really want to knuckle down and start to focus, particularly if you’re looking to scale, you need to take a look at your product roadmap. Figure out what’s working, what isn’t and what you really want to give your attention to. * Get super clear on your personal vision and your business goals, then whenever you get flooded with All The Ideas, you have a benchmark. Are they in alignment with what you want from life? Will they help you move closer towards your goals? If they don’t, but them on hold. You can always change your mind later. * Values. It’s not enough to say you have them and then write about them all the time. You have to live those values and show them even when nobody’s watching. Think about how each of those core beliefs is manifested in real life terms and then bring them to life. They will become synonymous with your name, and that what will make “your people” really align with you. (Note: it’s not always easy. You might get questioned a lot, but it’s still an important part of showing up in your business.) * Online marketing can be really overwhelming and confusing, especially if you’re not 100% clear on what’s right for you. It’s easy to follow someone else’s shiny strategy down the rabbit hole but that won’t always bring you the results you need. Gemma’s Smart Marketing System is an easy-to-customise framework that you can tweak, rinse and repeat every 90 days. It’s built around getting clarity on your people, processes and products and then developing marketing options that support, promote and sell you in all the right ways. * If there is ONE thing you need to do to see big results in your business – make it building unwavering belief in yourself. Once you believe, everyone else will too. And why they believe, they’ll buy.

Have you managed to nail all those New Year's resolutions yet? No? I'm shocked.
No need to worry! In this episode, I'm sharing a handful of my favourite tips for stepping up the momentum and making moves towards those big achievements you've been dreaming of.
The key takeaways: 5 ways to stay on track with your goals: 1. Buy yourself a Full Focus Planner. I’m not an affiliate, I just LOVE them. 2. Programme in an arse-kicking – accountability is a big motivator. 3. Challenge yourself to make micro-moves. 4. Use what you know about your personality and your tendencies to maximise your momentum. 5. Review and re-prioritise – is this even a goal you still care about?

Are you letting the way you look hold you back from being visible in your business? This is for you.
The key takeaways: * There’s a difference between being a foodie who just loves food and being so obsessed with food that it fills you with anxiety, overwhelm and self-castigation. When you turn food into an emotional issue, one where you deserve punishment for eating xyz, or you think there’s NO WAY IN HELL you can eat certain things, that’s when you need to step back and think “this obsession might not be healthy”. * I find meals are the perfect way to bring some structure to you week (and days) especially when you work from home. There’s a nice amount of order that comes with meal planning. Just don’t take it too far. If you eat after 6pm you won’t die. * Eating should be enjoyable and it should be fun and it should be pleasurable, and actually, it should be easy. * Don’t underestimate how dangerous the dieting approach to food is because nobody ever intentionally sets out to become a huge dysfunctional eater, but as soon as you start with the rules and the plans and the programmes and the invisible labels with food, you’re already increasing your chance of eating disorders, of food obsession, of binging, of food anxiety, of overeating, of not knowing when to stop. * It so common for entrepreneurial women to hold themselves back from being visible because of their weight or the way they look. It’s connected to this belief of not being good enough – an internal dialogue that in reality, your audience is not in agreement with. Nobody judges you the way YOU judge you.

Feeling overworked? Create content anyway.
In this ep, I'm sharing a handful of simple tricks to help you weave content creation into your week no matter how busy you are. You're welcome.
If you fancy the briefest of overviews, here are the TOP SECRET TRICKS I use to make time to create content: * BONUS: Believe that you can actually do this stuff. * Look for space in your calendar and book it out for content creation. Treat this like you would a client booking. * Batch tasks that require the same headspace and/or skillset. (For example, batch your research, batch your drafting, batch your editing, batch your image creation, etc, etc) * Capture ideas as you go – don’t wait for inspiration to hit when you sit down to create. * Get help where you need it, whether that’s in the form of an app, a VA or a bit of accountability. * Be ruthless with your productivity. Switch off all potential distractions – all the devices, all the tabs, EVERYTHING, then set a timer and GO! * Make sure your templates are on point – I create templates for everything from Instagram posts, to show notes, to weekly newsletters. * Ride the waves of inspiration – create the things you enjoy in a way that you enjoy. Know what motivates you and use THAT to help you get things done.

Find meaning in the madness of running a business.
In this episode, I chat with business coach (and host of the Meaningful Business podcast) Jo Casey about feminine conditioning, energetic scheduling, the best of books, and much, much more.
The key takeaways: * We all need to look at how we can create businesses that sustainable financially, emotionally and energetically. The rates of burnout amongst solopreneurs and entrepreneurs are really big, and it’s probably because there’s nobody telling us to clock out. We need to put those definite boundaries in ourselves. * We’re the pioneers of working online. We’re developing new business models and ways of working ALL THE TIME. It’s exciting and gives us a lot of scope to get creative, especially with the ever-changing technology. Freedom? Yes, but we still need a bit of structure in there somewhere. * Learn to understand your own energy patterns and build your schedule accordingly. * There’s this idea that we are selfish if we’re not helping people all of the time, or if we ask for money for it, or if we’re not in all the Facebook groups answering questions and giving free advice 24/7, then we’re selfish and it’s just not true. But it’s a really pernicious idea that runs deep in a lot of us.

Boost your Instagram engagement with this simple hack.
In this episode, I'm sharing the Instagram engagement ritual I'm trialling... listen on for inspiration!
An overview of my 5×5 Instagram engagement hack: Step 1: Scroll through the first 5 posts in your feed and mute or unfollow any accounts that you don’t want to see more of. The beauty of Instagram is that it’s such an inspiring place… so let’s keep it that way!
Step 2: Watch 5 Instagram Stories from beginning to end. Bonus points if you engage in polls and respond to what people are sharing.
Step 3: Hop onto that list of people you’re following. Like 5 posts. Comment on 5 posts (with 5 words or more in your comment). Now hop over to the list of people who are following you. Like 5 of theirs and comment on 5 more.
Step 4: Hit the “explore” tab and click through to 5 posts that grab your attention – like, comment and follow if the mood takes you.
Step 5: Tap on one of the hashtags you’ve used recently and follow 5 people who have used it too. Like at least one of their posts, and comment on another.

Bring clients (and cash) into your business with ease.
In this episode, LinkedIn expert Helen Pritchard shares some of her best tips to help you both get inspired by LinkedIn AND start making money from it... win!
The key takeaways: * Your LinkedIn account doesn’t have to reflect an old life, it can evolve with you. * If you love making money and hate doing too much work, LinkedIn is the one for you. * The “work” takes place before you even log on. Once you’ve identified WHAT you want to sell and WHO you want to sell it to, it’s about implementing insanely simple daily activities. * Reframe your profile so that it’s about your ideal audience and what they’re looking for, rather than having an incredibly long, boring career history. That’s not what people care about. They want to know how you can help THEM… so put that very crucial info right in your headline. * The most important thing about publishing content on LinkedIn is CONSISTENCY. And, y’know, reminding people how they can buy from you. * Don’t hang around in certain Facebook groups when you’ve had more than two wines.

Are you pursuing perfection or pursuing EXCELLENCE?
In this episode, I'm chatting to coach for misfits Ebonie Allard about doing all things "your way".
The key takeaways: * Starting a business often comes from wanting to set your own rules and listen to your body, and yourself – when you work, how you work, what you wear, what you eat… but to a certain extent you have to create structure in order to have the freedom. It has to be your choice though. It feels so much more empowering to know that you’ve got a choice rather than feeling like you have to do things a certain way. * Set strict boundaries around your working hours with regards to other people. Don’t allow your clients to contact you any time of day and night because that’s when things get crazy. And remember it’s all about the push and pull. If you work really late one day, you can have that morning time back later. We’ve got to make these businesses of ours sustainable! * People fall into two camps, do-ers and be-ers. With do-ers, it’s in their blood, they can’t help doing and they will do and do and do until they stop. We have to really encourage them to take a break and to look after themselves. And then you have be-ers who are really good at being in the moment, being present, feeling what’s going on and not necessarily as good at taking action without some kind of discipline involved in that. Finding out where you are on that spectrum and then learning how to pay attention to your body and turning that into a habit is really important. * It’s really important to pay attention to whether we’re working smart or whether we’re just working. * If you truly want to channel your personality online, you need to listen to the you-isms. Take note of things you say to friends, family, your journal. Pay attention to those language choices and then turn up the volume.

Start making the impact you crave on Instagram... because we all know it's the best platform!
In this ep, I share a handful of surprisingly simple tips to help you uplevel your content, increase your engagement, and just have more fun with the whole thing.
The key takeaways: YOUR INSTAGRAM BIO * Make sure your profile picture is YOUR picture. Nobody falls in love with a logo. * Be specific about what you do, who you do it for and how you do it. If I stumble onto your Instagram profile, I want to know instantly if it’s worth my while to follow you. I don’t want to enjoy your vague and whimsical naval gazing. Save that for later. * Take full advantage of your link space (I use Linktr.ee).
YOUR GRID * Curate the images you share. Don’t show us dark and grainy crap. Every image should be enough to force us to stop the scroll. * Look at your grid as a whole and define your signature style, your signature subject(s) and even your signature filters. * Dream up DIFFERENT ways to share your story, values and messaging (I have a free Instagram planner filled with all the prompts and all the inspo here). * Use a scheduling tool so that you can play around with how your grid looks (I use Planoly – free for up to 30 images a month, which is all you really need).
YOUR CAPTIONS * Opt for long-form captions. The aim is to keep people on your images for as long as possible. * Break up those long captions with line breaks and emojis to keep the eyes moving. * Plan out your posts (even if it’s just a week at a time) so there’s some cohesiveness to your channel.
HASHTAGS * Put your hashtags IN THE CAPTION, not in the first comment.
INTERACTION * Respond to everyone who leaves a comment on your posts – aim for comments of 4 words or more. * Challenge yourself to like and comment on a handful of other people’s posts every day. Instagram is a social platform, not a broadcasting system.
INSTAGRAM STORIES * Instagram Stories are your opportunity to get really creative. Just have fun with them! * Check out the link round-up below for endless inspiration.

In this episode of Your Biz, Your Rules, we're digging deep into MINDSET.
More specifically, how to develop a success mindset and bring that to life a little bit in your business.
The key takeaways: * Often there is a running theme. It comes in so many different disguises, but when you break it down, a lot of it is to do with not feeling worthy or deserving of success. A lot of female business owners have self-love issues, but a lot of them are driven by experiences or situations or people that have affected them in the past, and it’s that that really holds them back, and defining their choices and their decisions. * Affirmations work amazingly well because there’s nothing more powerful than the sound of our own voice. If we’re constantly putting ourselves down, that is all we’re going to attract, and that’s all our mind is gonna focus on. If we can change those words to something a lot more forgiving and a lot more loving towards ourselves, naturally we start to feel better. * With visualization, you can actually really work on filling the void in a positive way, because quite often if we have issues with self-love, we try to fill that void through lots of different things. Some people do it through alcohol, through food, through buying the next shiny object on offer, going shopping loads, trying to make themselves feel good, in the hopes that internally you might feel better. * Meditation is brilliant in so many different ways when it comes to calming your system down and getting you to start to really rebalance and reconnect to who you are and the resources you have within you. If you’re feeling particularly vulnerable, there are a couple of exercises that you can use (listen to the ep for details). * It’s about finding stuff that works for you and tweaking it in a way that makes you comfortable, because the last thing you want to be doing, is squirming at the thought of doing things. Equally, you do need to be open-minded about things feeling a bit uncomfortable, because sometimes that’s your minds way of showing you that something’s important and deserves your focus. * If you can start to celebrate the wins, you’re focusing on more winning, and then you’re naturally going to be more focused and more motivated to get MORE wins.

Ready to create Instagram Stories that stand out?
In this episode, Queen of Stories (Alex Beadon) shares her best tips for using Instagram Stories to boost your brand in a fun, creative, EFFECTIVE way.
The key takeaways: * Being visible can be super uncomfortable to start with, but when you start feeling a little more confident you can start having fun and getting creative. Instagram Stories, in particular, are such an excellent means of self-expression and connection with your audience. * Another benefit of Stories is that your people will never feel flooded by your content. If they’re offline for a few days… no biggie. They can just catch up on the past 24 hrs without the overwhelm that comes with extreme catch up mode. * It can be a huge challenge to post lots of pictures of yourself. It’s so easy to listen to that voice in your head saying “you’re so vain”, but the reality is that you want to share your message. You want people to know who you are – if you didn’t you would bother creating content at all. * Is it more important that you feel comfortable and hidden, away from judgement, or is it more important that you get out there, connecting with and serving your people? That is the question.

Thing 3: Get out of that box.

True connection and having the right mindset are two things that can make ALL THE DIFFERENCE as you run your business.
The key takeaways: * A lot of people are on the quest to stand out, but it’s really just about the allowance, the giving yourself permission to be who you are and OWN WHO YOU ARE. Then, no matter what your “thing” is, others will connect you with it. You’ll become known for simply being yourself. * Running a business can be the introvert’s dream, but it can also give you the permission to isolate yourself in a way that isn’t always good. The key is to be mindful of your own needs. We’re all different and self-awareness can really be your saviour. * It’s SO important to have your mindset on board. It’s great to be aware of the Facebook algorithm and its limitations but no algorithm has the power to determine your success. Circumstances are inherently neutral – it’s your belief and your action that paves the way to your future. * Your community will only be as active and inspired and happy as you are. It’s a matter of being consistent and really asking for what you want. It really will all depend on the specific goal you have for your Facebook group.

Streamline your systems and get yo'self set up for business greatness!
The key takeaways: * When we start a business, it feels like our baby. It’s something that we’ve nurtured and cared for, something we’ve protected fiercely, and it can feel scary to put it into someone else’s hands. But if you want both of your to flourish and grow, it’s got to be done! * Track what you’re doing each week, and how much time you’re spending on all of these tasks… is that really (objectively) how you should be spending your time and energy? * When faced with shiny new tools, be discerning. Do you actually need it? WIll you be using it to its full extent? Eliminate all the tools you can’t get into or are only half using. You’ll instantly feel a lot clearer. * Stop feeling ashamed every time you need to ask for help.

Schedule your way to content planning success!
The key takeaways: * Google Docs win for content planning ease. You don’t have to train anyone to use it, and you don’t end up with a bunch of revisions flying around the place. * There’s no right way to plan out your content. Lea like doing it a week at a time. I like doing it once every 90 days. You’ve got to make that bad boy work for YOU. * Don’t eat into your own time so much that you haven’t actually got the energy to do your client work when you’ve scheduled it because that can also be an epic fail in terms of how you maintain your creativity. You need to schedule in time and whitespace so that your whole life isn’t being eaten up by work otherwise, you’ll fall into the procrastination trap or end up hating what you’re doing.
Tips for coming up with brilliant content ideas: * If inspiration strikes, note it down in your phone with a bit of detail, including any connections that come to mind, rather than just a jumble of notes. * Listen to podcasts and respond to the topics covered by your faves. * National days provide massive inspiration – you’ll find a whole round-up of RELEVANT national days in Lea’s series of content planners.

Amp up your productivity. Today.
In this episode, I'm chatting with Merilyn Beretta about all things PRODUCTIVITY. We talk goal-setting, planning systems, books worth reading and more.
The key takeaways: * Your health suffers if you don’t honour all the different parts of your life. * Consumption – whether that’s from books, courses or blog posts – can be another form of procrastination. And this is often based around fear – fear of progressing, fear of not being good enough… there’s a lot that whirls around each of our brains. * You’re never going to banish perfectionism. It’s about being aware of it and not letting it dominate you. * There are two things that are stopping people moving forward in their business, mindset-wise. Their money belief system and their productivity, which is really their time belief system. The funny thing is, if you get your time sorted and you get your productivity mindset and methods sorted, suddenly you start achieving things… that’s when the money obstacles dissolve too.

To grow as a leader, you have to actually lead.
That means stepping outside of the solopreneur mindset, and putting together a virtual team, filled with people who excel at the things you don't want to be spending your time on. In this episode you'll find a whole bunch of tips for finding the perfect people for your virtual team and a few steps to help you be the best kind of manager once you've found them.
The key takeaways: * When hiring for a virtual team, you’re looking for somebody who has that micro niche expert status and experience in something particular. You’re not necessarily looking for somebody who you can groom and who you can teach, you’re looking for somebody who already has that specific skill that you can outsource and delegate that specific area of your business to. And more importantly, entrust it to.
Mary’s 7 steps for building an unstoppable virtual team: 1. Get clear on the vision statement – that’s what your company stands for and where your company is going. Why do you exist? Who do you serve? 2. Put together an organisation chart (yes, really!) 3. Determine what you actually need. 4. Write a creative brief where you list out every quality and skill that the ideal person for the role would have. 5. Get out there and start looking for someone to fill the position you’re after. 6. Set up a 15-minute screening call to figure out if they’re a good fit personally. 7. Follow up successful candidates with a 30-minute call and go deeper. Find out how they work, what tools they use, what their micro-niche is.

Creative spirit is just the ticket.
Listen on for how Jenny and I both use creative play to SAVE OUR SANITY, the importance of creativity in business and HOW you can start bringing it to life in your own world.
The key takeaways: * This skill of creative thinking, this outside the box thinking, it’s what we as entrepreneurs do pretty much every day. We figure out a strategy. It’s not just A plus B equals C, it’s not a mathematical equation. * There’s something magical about creating in a sketchbook or in an art journal because you can just turn the page and it’s gone. * We collect all these thoughts and feelings of, “I can’t be creative, I can’t do this, I can’t do that.” Sometimes we just need to take a step back and go, “What if I could?” How do some of us start these little businesses? By going, “What if I could fill this gap I’ve just found?” * When you’re creating, you’re working through something, and it’s meditative. It allows you to connect with fears and with emotions that you wouldn’t normally go anywhere here. Especially if you’re a grade A perfectionist, art journaling helps you release some of that grip on perfection and helps you let go a bit. * You can only take on so much at a time. If we start to look at these sort of connection activities, like art journaling, or even just regular journaling, we start to recharge, we start to see those connections, and we start to see the stuff that we find is a problem, so we can deal with them. Whereas if we’re forever numbing and forever hiding, we don’t see those things, and then 20 years down the line you wonder why you feel really unfulfilled.

Break away from all the terrible habits, for good.
The key takeaways: * When we actually allow ourselves to feel what’s going on for us, we stop engaging in these numbing behaviors, whether it’s with our nutrition, how we’re beating ourselves up in the mirror, how we’re constantly busy, and stressed out and strung out at work doing all the things, or perfectionism, or trying to control all the pieces, or taking care of everybody to our own detriment, or constantly saying yes all the time and then wondering why we’ve got nothing left for ourselves… If we just pause long enough to appreciate ourselves for where we are, instead of constantly beating ourselves up over where we think we should be, or where we’re not, life gets a lot more peaceful. Beating up on ourselves can take up a tremendous amount of bandwidth – it really robs us of being present in our lives and enjoying the things that are here now. * While you do have to pay attention to the food you put in your mouth, you also have to pay closer attention to your self-talk, and how you’re showing up in the world, and any other behaviours if you want to change anything. * When we say that we have to do everything alone, we actually put a choke hold on our business, because our business can’t grow if we’re doing all the things. We become the bottleneck in our business. We stop ourselves from actually creating the wealth and abundance in our lives because we’re not hiring somebody to help us. * With copywriting specifically, you really have to take the time to find the right person who can really capture your message, and you have to be prepared to put your hands on it. You have to be willing to collaborate because you can’t just hand over to your copy to someone and think they’re going to nail your message right at the offset. * Being busy and constantly doing things is a numbing behaviour, make no mistake. If we’re not giving ourselves that time to rest, and recover, and be creative, and get out and play, we actually aren’t moving our businesses forward. We’re just in this hamster wheel, making up this story that being busy is moving us forward, without actually doing anything that’s super productive. It’s just busy work.

Take care of yourself and you'll take care of your biz.
The key takeaways: * Your body is made up of energy channels called meridians, when all of those energy channels are flowing, it affects your health and your emotional wellbeing and your mindset. If everything is flowing really well, you will feel healthy, happy, and balanced, and in the flow with everything in life. Kinesiology clears and balances those energy channels when they need it. * Women are cyclical creatures and this can be seen in our businesses to. We go through changes throughout the month, and, sometimes, when we’re really connected to our cycle, we get different insights from different times of the month. Kind of like downloads, in-cycle downloads from the universe that make us see things in a different way. * If you find yourself being drawn towards the deep, dark tunnel of burnout, it could be time to do a major life review. Surround yourself with positive people. Surround yourself with positive work. Remove anything that drains your energy. And simplify your life so that you can avoid decision fatigue altogether.

Bring your brand to life online with video.
The key takeaways: * Youtube is still the daddy of video so you need to know how to make it work for you. Justina’s top three tips are…
+ 1. Make sure your channel looks like it’s operational, which means uploading regular content.
+ 2. Pay attention to your artwork – keep it all on-brand.
+ 3. Treat your Youtube homepage as you would your website homepage. With creativity and care.

Say goodbye to the Facebook fears.
The key takeaways: * The biggest mistake people make when they’re getting started with ads is thinking that a bigger audience is better. You need to know exactly who you want to target and niche down. Use these smaller audiences if you ever boost your posts too. * Tracking is the most beneficial thing you can do. Monitoring the results of your different advertising activities will help you determine exactly what works for you and your audience (and exactly what doesn’t). * Videos are going to do great on Facebook this year because when you’re doing a live stream on your page, people will watch it and engage, creating a natural conversation. People will be replying to questions you ask during the video and then other people will be engaging with those comments. This is the type of content that Facebook will keep promoting heavily so definitely look into live streaming if you haven’t started doing that yet.

Your story really does matter... so SHARE it.
The key takeaways: * Both Marie and I would make excellent Pointless partners, so keep us in mind. * The ultimate writing ritual is the planning, but that’s quite boring. In terms of the day-to-day stuff, it has to be getting up and out and getting some fresh air. It’s the movement that brings the motivation. * Do not start writing until you’ve done the planning. It’s quite an overwhelming thing to think “I’m going to write a book”. You sit and you open your laptop and then you’ve got this blank screen in front of you and you genuinely don’t know where to start. The planning part is about knowing who you’re writing for, and about being able to structure each chapter, building in the time to write that, the research that you might need to do, the amount of words you’re looking at, the genre, how you’re going to write it. If all of that’s done first, then when you actually sit down and write you’ve got everything you need to write those chapters. And then it’s fun. Then it’s really, really good fun. * Marie’s magical book-writing method:
+ Know your reader.
+ Understand the message you want to share.
+ Figure out how your reader wants to receive that message.
+ Do the scary planning.
+ Write the damn thing.

Unleash the creativity you never even knew you had.
The key takeaways: * Creative thinking is huge for our lives and our businesses in so many ways. When we apply creative thinking techniques, we allow our brains to see things from a different perspective, to see things in a whole new way. And why is that useful? Well, if you are operating in a crowded marketplace you might want to be able to think about some products or services that are different. You might want to think about how to use language and visuals, and your brand to position you in a different way and help you stand out. Also, if you apply creative thinking to everything in your life, you’re going to have a much more fun experience. You’re going to see things in a new way. * Start with something simple like making a habit out of doing something new every day and then layer on outputting something every day. Whether you’re creating a really short video, or you’re journaling, or you’re creating an image. If you start to output, you’re synthesizing information for yourself and for your audience. You’re kind of allowing yourself to absorb what’s going on out there in your industry, what’s going on in the world, what’s going on in culture, and you become a synthesizer for your audience and for your clients. It also helps you understand things a lot better as well. So tiny tweaks. Something new every day, then output something every day. Then you can apply some creative thinking and triggers. * Try using Netflix as a creative thinking trigger. Think about one of your favourite box sets or series or films or programmes, and then jot down everything that’s to do with that show – the characters, the themes, the music, the location, the storylines…
Why the heck is that useful for your business? So, if you use those triggers, and you start spidering down even more, you can apply those concepts and those thoughts to whatever it is you’re creating. You have to kind of go with the freeform thinking at first, and let it sound as nuts as it’s going to sound, and then start to play. This is all about having your own personal playbook.
If you start playing you end up having a lot of fun, for one, which is always a good thing because that really connects your clients to you. But also, if you’re creating stuff and finding points of difference you are going to stand out from people who are all doing the same things. And it will help you uncover some new language and some new words, because the more you delve into different parts of your brain, into unexpected themes, unexpected mixtures of stuff, the more you come out with different outcomes. You’ll find your blog posts are flowing. You’ll find your content ideas are thriving. You’ll find you’re inspired a lot more often. * Once you’ve generated loads of ideas, you need to make a plan. You need to get this thing done. Small chunks are always a really good way to work – focus for short sprints at a time.

Explore the wacky world of EFT and what it can do for your business.
The key takeaways: * EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, involves tapping on certain points of the body to stimulate healing. It allows the subconscious beliefs we have hiding beneath the surface to come up in a safe way so that we can recognise it, let it go and stop it from holding us back. * EFT can help you deal with all sorts of issues that impact your life and your business – money blocks, fears of visibility, overwhelm, guilt, a tendency towards being a workaholic… * If you’re interested in dipping your toes in the water, head over to Youtube and find someone who resonates with you, someone who you trust. We all have a natural preference about who we like to work with, who we like to listen to. You might even find that different people click for you at different times in your life * Always work through your EFT videos more than once. It’s a compounded effect. You’ll often find that you’ll suddenly have an amazing insight, but it might take a few times before you really get to the magic of it.

Sprinkle your business with a little work-smart wizardry.
The key takeaways: * Freelancing was made for introverts – you get to work from home, you get to take your control back and you get the flexibility of working around your energy. * If you download an app and don’t like it, you can request a refund… who knew?! * You will never get to the point where you will entirely finish your to-do list. Accepting that will never happen is the healthiest approach you can take! * As a generation, we feel very uncomfortable being bored. It used to be normal for people to feel boredom, but now we’re constantly driven to be always working, always improving. It’s like we must always be achieving something. What’s that about?

Do you want one word or the whole damn dictionary?
The key takeaways: * The “word of the year” is a concept (dreamed up by Christine Kane) which involves setting a one-word intention for the year. However, I tend to use this words as prompts to check in with myself, to make sure I’m on track to achieve what I want from the world. This year, I’ve got 3:
+ Chill: I want to stop driving myself into the ground – I have a tendency to throw myself ALL IN, consequences be damned!
+ Change: Last year, I found myself coasting along quite a lot. I let myself be content hiding away behind the scenes, doing my client work and avoiding any of the big projects that could bring me a different kind of success.
+ Cha-ching: I’ve got a couple of big expenditures on the horizon (a.k.a. a house and a wedding) so this year I want to a) be discerning about what I spend and b) focus on work that brings in the money I’d like to be making.
