Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast: Recent Episodes

Blind Tiger Record Club

Blind Tiger Record Club founder David W. Williams, Product Manager Rudy Newman, and artist manager Kevin Lee host panel discussions on albums released on vinyl each month.

There are three episode formats:

1) The LP Interview - Guest panelists include artists, producers, songwriters, managers, booking agents, entertainment attorneys, and other music industry veterans that are passionate about music and the creation of music. We discuss ONE album with the guest panelist and talk about their career and perspective on art, culture, and the creative process of the music.

2) "The Forty Five" - This is a Club episode where we discuss the Records of the Month, Spotlight Albums, and New Store Additions released at BlindTigerRecordClub.com. We cover several albums per episode and these episodes are a great way to get exposed to newly released music.

3)"The B-Sides" - Sometimes when we have guest panelists on for the LP Interview segments, we get a lot of extra "talk". When we edit our episodes down, we try to focus the interview on the album we are discussing. Many times, we discuss much more and that is all dropped in the B-Sides.

Each episode digs into a new release, reissue, or influential album from the club or guest panelist perspective. Listen and leave with stories and new perspectives on albums you have heard, and hopefully new music to explore or rediscover. B.T.R.C. champions music from all genres and believes vinyl is king.

On this episode of the Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast, David W. Williams and Kevin Lee kick off the fall with a discussion of the Blind Tiger Record Club's October Records of the Month.

We discuss all four styles of the B.T.R.C. Records of the Month - Singer Songwriter, Rock & Alternative, Jazz Soul & Blues, and Classics. Normally, each style would have its own club episode, but this month, we have them all combined in one show.

We discuss new releases and reissues from Trapper Haskins, Muse, GA-20, and Journey. The albums from these artists are discussed and clips of songs from the albums are played. We talk about a very special album, Blood In The Honey, By Trapper Haskins and how unique the production and arrangements are on this album. You can catch our LP Interview with Trapper Haskins on October 24th and listen to Haskins tell us all about vintage baseball, boatmaking, and the writing and production of this album. We also discuss Will of the People by Muse and how visual the album is even though it's not officially a concept album. We talk about GA-20's Crackdown, the duo's follow up to 2019's Lonely Soul. We discuss the groups traditional blues, country, and rock influence and how the pair are really "blues revivalist". The last album we discuss is the epic classic rock album, Escape (E5C4P3), by Journey, celebrating over 40 years since its release. We cover the albums chart positioning worldwide and the singles. We talk about the importance of "Open Arms" to the "power ballad" at pop radio and how incredible Steve Perry's vocals are on this Journey album in particular.. We also talk about how the album was produced by former Lynyrd Skynyrd's sound engineer, Kevin Elson and Queen engineer Mike Stone as well as the role played by Jonathan Cain who replaced Gregg Rolie on keyboards for this album. We also discuss the biggest song of the 20th century - "Don't Stop Believin'" and how it competes for downloads with a certain song by Survivor - much to that band's chagrins.

We also briefly discuss U2 and Bono's new book and book tour, Surrender: 40 Songs. We also discuss a very important milestone achieved by Apple Music and how some songs still penetrate the larger culture like "I Ain't Worried" by One Republic. This is a special episode segment of The Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast called the B-Sides. In July of 2021, Nashville Rock artist and guitar legend Damon Johnson joined the Blind Tiger Record Club hosts David W. Williams and Kevin Lee to discuss his brand new album Battle Lessons. This LP Interview was a two part episode that covered Johnson's entire career from his early beginnings in music and the bands he played with during the 1980's. We talk about the founding of Brother Cane in the 1990's, the years of touring, and the radio singles released during the band's time with Virgin Records. We also discussed his time as a member of Alice Cooper's band and writing and recording on Cooper's Dirty Diamonds album. We discussed his joining and touring with the band Thin Lizzy. We talk about the formation and recording of Black Star Riders and recording with producer Nick Raskulinecz. Finally, we discuss Damon's solo career, specifically his album Memoirs of an Uprising and his new release Battle Lessons with his new power trio called Damon Johnson and the Get Ready.

The B-sides episode is a grouping of audio clips with stories that did not make the long-form interview but are still interesting and entertaining. On this episode of the B-Sides, Johnson told some additional stories that are amazing like writing songs with Sammy Hagar and getting a song cut by Stevie Nicks. Playing guitar on one of Faith Hill's biggest hits. Having a song recorded with Santana. Writing and recording with Caleb Johnson and Jason Bonham. He even shares an incredible story about music legend Ricky Nelson.

Here are the songs, artist, and albums included in this B-Sides episode of the Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast:

  • Sammy Hagar - "Salvation on Sand Hill"
  • Stevie Nicks - "Every Day"
  • Faith Hill - "Cry"
  • Santanna - "Just Feel Better" (Feat. Steven Tyler)
  • Caleb Johnson - "Hurricane"
  • Caleb Johnson - "Dead Man Walking Blues"

If you love vinyl records, discovering new music, rediscovering music you already know, and learning about the music creators, this is the podcast for you.

This is a special episode segment of The Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast called the B-Sides. On January 27th, we launched an LP Interview episode discussing Drivin N' Cryin's most recent release, Live The Love Beautiful, with special guest Kevn Kinney.

As a founding member, front man, and principle songwriter for the band, Kinney had a unique insight into the most recent recordings and songs, and that episode focused completely on the part of our discussion that related to Live The Love Beautiful.

However, we discussed much more. In today's B-Sides episode, we talk about Drivin N Cryin's early years and touch on every album the band released through the 80's. We start at the first album, scarred but smarter, and go all the way up to the bands biggest release, Fly Me Courageous. If your a fan of the band, you will love to hear Kinney discuss this time period. If your just getting to know the band, this will help you understand the bands significant history. Here are the songs, artist, and albums included in this B-Sides episode of the Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast: * Drivin N' Cryin - "Another Scarlet Butterfly" * Drivin N' Cryin - "Catch The Wind" * Drivin N' Cryin - "With The People" * Drivin N' Cryin - "Toy Never Played With" * Drivin N' Cryin - "Build A Fire" * Kevn Kinney - "MacDougal Blues" * Drivin N' Cryin - "Out Here In The Middle of Nowhere"
