Have you wanted to achieve things in your life or business but you stay up at night worried about expenses, or not having enough time or wonder if it'll all work out the way you want it to, this episode is for you.

After speaking with many of my clients about their mindsets I wanted to talk about how focusing on the wrong thing, that there isn't enough of something whether it be time or money, will only prove that there isn't. In order to move into the New Year, I took a look back at one of the most difficult years, 2022. And realized there are 3 important lessons I learned. Sadly, we lost my father-in-law during the summer. This left a big hole and guilt as he had asked if we could visit him one last time before her died. We hadn't been able to visit since COVID and unfortunately, we weren't able to make it. After many years of not being sure if we should stay  living on the east coast, I decided to move my family within 57 days across country. One of the main reasons to move west is because my father's health started to deteriorate significantly. Through all of that, my business continued to grow. My children love their new environment and it's great being closer to my parents. But to get to this point, I took away three lessons. 1- You always have the answers inside you. 2- Any excuses you have are just Fear. 3-  It's ok to ask for help.

We are all familiar with the "Ok Boomer" or "Boomer Remover" phrases but really if we want to figure out how to solve the big problems of the world both young and old need to be working together. For the first time in US History, people over 60 outnumber people under 18. America is becoming a much more multigenerational society, with five generations alive at the same time and that's not about to change. And with the pandemic, it has brought a greater awareness of the need to bring cross generations together since we’ve been forced to split a part. In today's episode I speak with two powerhouse women in this field Marci Alboher from Encore.org and Charlotte Japp from Cirkel. They join me for a candid conversation about why it's so important we enhance the intergeneration relationships.

Here are a few takeaways:

  • Marci Alboher is the VP of Narrative Change at Encore.org which is a non-profit organization who's mission is to bridge generations, generational divides and find ways that older and younger people can work together for change.

-They support thinkers and doers that are innovating how we think about the older and younger generations.

  • One of Encore's fellowship has 15 leaders whose age range between 18-79 years old. Charlotte Japp is currently in that fellowship.

  • Charlotte Japp Founded CIRKEL an intergenerational platform that is showing people there is always room to learn, teach, and grow throughout life. When generations come together, everyone benefits.

  • There's a misconception that older workers are not retiring making it more difficult for the younger generation to get on the ladder. That's wrong as there's data that shows when older people stay in the work force longer they contribute to the economy and it leads to more jobs for everyone.

-COVID has hit the over 65 and under 30 years of age the hardest. The people who were having a difficult time before COVID are really struggling now.

-Cirkel works to bring multi-generations together by setting up meetings with individuals from different generations based on theirs goals and skills set on how they can help one another.

-We need to start making age as part of the diversity conversation.

-The cycle of going to school, graduating, working and retiring is shifting. Looking into the workplace and education is a growing interest and how this effects across the ages.

When we first went into lockdown for the pandemic the only thing I could compare it to was the tragedy of 9/11. It's hard to believe that we are coming up on the 19th Anniversary. I was looking for some inspiration and came across this book called "No Better Time," about the most likely first victim of 9/11 Danny Lewin the unsung hero. He was on American Flight 11 and tried to stop the terrorist on the plane. Unfortunately he was killed and the plane crashed into the World Trade Center. His life of perseverance and never giving up even when the odds are against you is a guiding light for all of us. I contacted the author Molly Raskin and had a wonderful conversation about her inspiration for writing the book and what projects she's working on now.

Here's what you'll learn from this episode:

  • Molly Raskin is an author, journalist and TV Producer. She currently has a docuseries on Netflix called "(Un)well."
  • She first learned about Danny Lewin's story ten years after 9/11.
  • She flew to Israel to speak with Danny's parents to see if she could tell his story. They had not wanted to tell his story but realized his life is so inspiring they agreed to let Rachel write the book.
  • Thinking she would have publishers lining up to publish the book, she had a bit of a surprise to find out that wasn't the case. Her perseverance finally got her a publisher.
  • We learn how Danny's life work his company Akamai Technologies kept the communication of our government and our media outlets going during 9/11 and the days after.
  • How to keep your dream alive when you face rejection.
  • Danny's life philosophy that kept him going.
  • Molly's wellness routine and the reason behind her doing her the docuseries on Netflix called "(UN) Well."

We break down the main concerns parents have with socialization, depression and lack of motivation. Also, we talk about how we are now wearing a lot more hats than we're used to and giving us coping skills.

  • We are the role models for our children. They will follow our lead.

There is a severe lack of research into perimenopause and menopause. Luckily Vanessa Ford and her business partners Danielle Jacobs and Dr. John Konhilas at Menolabs saw the huge gap and need for us midlife women to get some answers and relief from hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings and all the other symptoms we have during this period of our lives. In this episode we openly discuss what it's like to be in perimenopause and menopause and what we can do about it.

Show notes:

  • After thinking she had cancer and couldn't get any answers from her friends and family Vanessa Ford realized there is a lack of research into women's symptoms for perimenopause/menopause.
  • Every woman's symptoms are different.
  • Menopause rage is real. You can just be angry for no particular reason.
  • You can logically give excuses away why you are being angry, having hot flashes and irregular periods.

  • Scientist are talking about our second brain in our enteric nervous system.
  • They developed three product supplements that will help women with menopause symptoms of hot flashes, mood swings and weight gain. MenoFit, MenoGlow and MenoGuard.
  • What they discovered is that normally as we use estrogen we pass it out of our bodies but if we use the right probiotics, the right bacteria, your gut will send a signal to your brain to recyle your estrogen. It's called deconjugation of estrogen.
  • The products are 100% natural.
  • If diagnosed with or have had treatments with cancer and a doctor says you can't have soy or phytoestrogens you should not take these supplements.
  • You should really discuss with your doctor before you take any supplements.
  • It's extremely important to exercise now to safe off osteoporosis and have good bone health!

** Correction. The products are not completely GMO free.

In a short period of time she lost her mother and her marriage and went from a panic attack in her office to the emergency room. When COVID19 hit and life basically stopped, what happened to our goals for 2020? What about our vision boards that had travel, promotions and all sort of things that we couldn't do while we were quarantined. I asked my good friend author and keynote speaker Julie Gaver to come back on the show so we could talk about how do we reset our goals for 2020. Her advice might not be what you think!  Show Notes:

  • We may have bad days or get depressed about it but we'll make it through.
  • It's ok to put the goals that you had for this year and let them simmer.
  • Don't focus on what you're not achieving or if you're not being as productive as you're used to being.
  • Tips on how to set new goals.
  • Book recommendation: "Seven Sins for a Life Worth Living" by Richard Housden
  • The importance of returning to self.
  • Ideas on how and if you need to revisit your goals in September.

I grew up hearing "The Grass is Always Greener." Have you heard the new version? "The Grass IS Greener because they use Filters!" It's never easy to try and stop comparing yourself to others especially in this world of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Here are Four simple ways to help you stop the Unfair Comparisons: 1- Gratitude: There are many reasons to concentrate on gratitude but when it comes to comparison this is a very powerful tool.

Oprah said, “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”

2- Water Your Own Grass: You will not get anything accomplished if you’re looking at other people’s grass. Take your time and energy to focus on yourself and what you’re doing. Transform those thoughts of comparison to create, invest and care about your own path.

3- Stop the “Shoulds”: I should be here…I should have this…I should be doing that…This type of self talk doesn’t help you grow and become the best you. It holds you back. Instead of saying “should” change it to “Want” and see what manifests!

4- Enjoy Where You’re At: I once heard someone say “Don’t compare Your “Middle or Beginning” to someone else’s “End.” That hit home for me. Enjoy where you’re at in your journey of life and make sure you’ve surrounded yourself with people who are supportive of you and your accomplishments and not jealous or belittle them.

There is a traditional "right of passage" when our children move from being a Senior in High School to a student at college. This event is celebrated at a High School Graduation - which this year is very different. In today's episode I talk with moms across the country about how they're celebrating their seniors of The Class of 2020 during the pandemic. At times the conversation got emotional and at times inspirational. What became very clear is how important the traditions of Senior Year are not only for the students but also for the parents. I feel honored that these mothers would talk so candidly with me on how they felt about all the changes they were experiencing.  Here are a few of the ideas that these moms did to help their seniors celebrate.  -You children will take their cues only how to handle the situation from their parents. If you explain to them that this is not just happening to them or their town but all over the world it will help put a more positive outlook on it. They will follow the parents lead. -Have you senior get dressed up for photos for Prom and Graduation.  -For Prom your senior can get dressed up and then make their favorite meal and have a dance party at home with the family.  -Find a special place for the photos to take place. Even though they might be "Fake Photos" it's still the opportunity to record memories. You'll have these photos for the rest of your lives and be able to look back on this time as a few moments of positivity.  -If your schools have traditions you can do some of these traditions at home. For instance, one of the moms continued the tradition of making purple margaritas. Tip: To make a purple margarita you can use purple sugar that'd you'd use to decorate cookies.  -Decorate the seniors bedroom door or front door.  -One of the BIGGEST helps is have the "Grandparents" get involved in the planning. Your senior will not say no to their grandparents!  -Have a graduation in the backyard. Have them walk outside and do a ceremony in a special place.  -Perhaps your town will allow some time of "social distancing" graduation outside. Work with your school to find opportunities.  -And finally, a lot of the children don't know what they're missing out on. It might be more for the adults than the children. Be sure to keep it in check.  Thank you so much for these moms to be so honest and open with how they're feeling and how they're making the most of this unprecedented situation. I wish The Class of 2020 that even though they are not getting the graduation they might have hoped for, they are resilient and stepping up into their futures with hope, purpose and passion. I've never felt more optimistic about the future than I do seeing how incredible this class is pivoting and making lemonade out of lemons! God bless you!

Here are Five Tips to help you get through it: 1- Write: I had a big spiral notebook in my desk. Whenever the situation would get particularly difficult I would shut my office door and do a complete brain dump. I would write everything that I was worried about, kept me up at night, problems I didn’t have answers to, tasks that had to get done, and wouldn’t stop until it was all written down.

2- Meditation/Prayer: In the top drawer of my desk I had written the Serenity Prayer. Once I’d read it I’d look over what I had written and cross out anything I could not control.

3- Make a list: I would then make a productive list of what needed to get done.

4- Prioritize: From the list I’d then prioritize in the order of importance of what needed to get done. If it could wait until tomorrow I would put a line through it and then make another list of those things that could wait until tomorrow.

5- Action: I’d then work my way through the list and made sure that I put a line or checked off whatever I got done. It made me feel so good when everything was either marked off or checked off. It also felt good to take the emotion out of it.  I hope you enjoyed this tips. In today's episode I'm speaking with author Ada Calhoun about her book "Why We Can't Sleep: The New Midlife Crisis." We dive deep into the reasons why Generation X women are so stressed and filled with anxiety. GenX women growing up were told that we "can do anything" but it doesn't mean we have to do everything.  Here are few of the takeaways you'll get from this episode:  -We are making our own paths in midlife. - There are few doctors that focus on perimenopause and menopause. 80% of women have severe symptoms in menopause.  -Women are feeling stuck in their careers in midlife and feeling sidelined.  -Women in their 50s are getting pushed out of jobs due to ageism and sexism. -The New Midlife Crisis is a perfect storm of stress and anxiety. We have our phones blaring at us, work, kids and aging parents and no one is really talking about it.  -The bar has been set really high in parenting.  -We have a resilience that came from growing up the way we did. We're used to figuring out things for ourselves.

In today's New Mid Tips I discuss how we can use this time when we’re staying at home to start small healthy habits. This will help us to not only use this opportunity to move in a positive direction, it will also set us up for a more positive life once the quarantine is over. We can give ourselves a break and not have to have BIG goals but rather small ones that we know we can accomplish. 1. Decision: Decide on what tiny habit you could start today to make your life healthier: drink more water, take a daily walk, go to bed a 1/2 hour earlier…

2- Motivation: What’s your motivation for starting this habit? How are you going to benefit from this new habit?

3- Easy: Make sure it’s something easy that you can do in the next 21 days.

4- Celebration: Every time you do the new habit be sure to celebrate yourself. You can say to yourself: “I’m Awesome!” And a smile is guaranteed to follow!
