TO SLOW DOWN.
If you're constantly wondering why everyone else is so lazy, this episode is for you.

What we talked about:
How do you know when you want to pivot or just muscling through it?
We can learn so much from each other, and when we take the time to listen, you start to feel more part of the community.
“The second I raised 400k, I would have had to raise another round of it…That’s not why I did it…”
“I don’t want to do this anymore…”
“Had I not gone through that experience of being a founder, I never would have started my practice and not started them focused on starting growing businesses.”
“As women, we want to be the best…it is very hard to know ‘did you want to pull the plug because you were scared or because it was not aligned with who you want to be?’”
How did you know which way to go?
This was not compatible with the life I had envisioned for the next five years.
Listen to your gut. Don’t do something because you’re worried about what it’s going to look like to others.
Saying no is as much of a decision as saying yes.
All these different things about how much money you should be making…you think, okay I have to get to that point…
I felt like I was in this purgatory of life…my sense of worth was tied up in my achievement…forced me to look deeper and question my motives and how much my self worth depended on what other people thought of me.
I wasn’t miserable, it was interesting and fun, I would go workout…at the same time, I had days where I thought I was the worst mom, I’m bored out of my mind…
We can get so in our heads about the silliest things…our subconscious tells us this is important.
More people need to know that it’s okay to step back.
What if you listeners started a business and it just wasn’t what you thought it would be?
We talk about entrepreneurs as if they are gods…but it’s not for everybody and that’s great!
Maybe, you have a business now and it’s just not working…that doesn’t mean that you’re not an entrepreneur.
Giving ourselves permission to quit is important.
There may be listeners who have a business that makes money that they wanna quit, but they’re providing for their family..adds layer of complexity that I didn’t have to think about. If that’s you, I think you can find a way to work it out.”
“They were bringing me more anxiety than they were anything else “
“For any of you listeners, sometimes you have to let something go, before you can open yourself up for something better.”
If you are under a cloud of anxiety and you can point it to that person or job, you have to find a way to either change that…or make a change yourself…pull the plug.
It’s never okay to keep going with something when it’s just making you miserable.

What we talked about:
What is R.Riveter bags and how are they WAY different than any other bag?
What is life like for a military spouse? What unique challenges do they face all.the.time? How does R.Riveter help support military spouses?
The mental struggle for military spouses is very real. Most people have no idea what it’s like. You’re marrying into a lifestyle — and you’re part of what makes that work.
“I was slowly losing my personal identity…I was a completely new person every time we moved”
How did R.Riveter get started?
“We had no idea what we were starting when we got going.”
“We spent half of our budget on insulation for the attic we worked out of in the early stage. Bought a sewing machine, and grinded.”
What did you tell yourself to get through those early stages?
“There was no other option. We didn’t give ourself or our thought process any other option.”
Put one foot in front of the other and make it work.
"When there isn’t another option — that’s sometimes the birthplace of AMAZING things. You’re not in the mindset of other options."
What advice do you have for women who are launching a business in alignment with who you are?
“You need to know where you’re going — but people get tripped up on all the steps to get there. You don’t need anything but Google in the beginning.”
Take stories from other successful people and apply it to what you’re going through and think through how you can make that advice work for what you need to do.
SHARK TANK. Tell me about your experience!
“Terrifying and top of the mountain excitement at the same time.”
How did you manage so much PR? “People want to tell a good story.”
“Coming from the military, we have a perspective that most people don’t have the opportunity to have. It’s a very humbling experience and you put things into perspective in a way that civilians don't.”
“I was consistently wishing my life away…and finally I just had to let that go and live in the moment. You only have one life to live.”
How can you take responsibility for your life even when your life is harder than you’d like it to be?
“Find your purpose.”
Raising good kids in a transitional lifestyle. How Lisa is a role model for her kids.
Re-identifying yourself in new environments. How do you consistently “be yourself”?
Why the name R.Riveter?
“We’re the no-fuss women. We’re grinding, trying to make a difference, and we want a bag that can handle our lifestyle.” She can take that handbag from the boardroom to

What Sean and I talked about:
You can change your reality by changing your thoughts.
Is it possible to make the mental shifts BEFORE you do the work to understand yourself? Sean says YES.
What to do when those limiting belief/ negative thoughts come up.
How to know when to pivot? When to use grit/push through and when to change plans?
<< Distinction between what feels right and going back to the comfort zone >>
Don’t make it about YOU.
Try your hardest not to make decisions in a valley.
How to help a friend through their own valley? Sean’s advice: Don’t help unless they specifically ask for it.
“Everyone is in a different place in their journey”
When you’re in a valley — that despair — when you learn a lot about yourselves.
Your survival rate for your bad days is 100%
“People just want to be listened to”.
Your brain has a tendency to follow your feelings.
Your brain will go through withdrawal when you are trying to make a change in your life.
Negative thoughts will always come. You have to consciously redirect your thoughts. CHILL.
You have to get to the root cause — understand the way you feel about yourself and the negative core beliefs you have.
How to be responsible for a life situation you don't have control of — and that you don't necessarily love.
“To me” consciousness. Victim consciousness. Choosing to respond in a negative way.
“For me/by me” consciousness. How is this working for me? EVERY negative thing that happens to you has good in it.
“Where you choose to focus your attention is what dictates how you feel about it”
LOOK FOR THE POSITIVES> Shift your attention. your attention changes and your realities change. We can all make that choice.
How many opportunities are you missing because you’re looking at your life through the lens of a victim?
Real love is loving and supporting someone no natter what they choose.
How to have longevity? Be consistent and deliver high quality.

Have you listened to EVERY single episode on Shine Strong?
Maybe just a couple?
I've obviously been front and center for each and every conversation on the show, and I've taken something away from every single episode. That said, I've learned more from some episodes than others.
This episode ended up being WAY LONGER than I anticipated!
I talk about it all:
Why I launched Shine Strong -- and how I learned how to podcast.
My favorite episodes, why I thought they were awesome, and what I took away from it.
What I have personally learned [and implemented] this year, since launching Shine Strong AND what you might be able to learn from those lessons.
From the absolute bottom of my heart: THANK YOU for being here!!!!!! Seriously! It's been over a year that I've been working on Shine Strong, and this is episode 45.
Season 1 is wrapping, but Season 2 episodes are already recorded and OMG THEY'RE AMAZING. I'm basically flipping out because I'm so excited.
I mentioned it a few times in the episode -- but I totally want you to email me with ideas for episodes, topics, and basically just to connect with you! Here is my email, and my Shine Strong IG:

We all have a friend or loved one who is [or has been] struggling to conceive.
Maybe you've struggled yourself to conceive, maybe not.
As someone who hasn't had a hard time conceiving -- I wanted to know how I could support my loved ones who are on the [in]fertility journey -- and I also wanted to avoid saying potentially hurtful things out of my own ignorance.
Nathalie is on the show to help us with ALL of that.
She'll explain the entire process of IVF. She talks in detail about her own journey -- and what ended up working for her. She shares really hurtful things people have said to her, things that we can all learn from and avoid saying to our loved ones. She also shares ways you can love and support your friends through this hard time in their life.
And, for those of you listening who have been on the [in]fertility path yourself, Nathalie is doing some pretty amazing things to bring this conversation to the forefront at both a corporate level and a human level. My advice is to connect with her on IG, follow her blog posts, join her Ellie group, and shoot her an email.

I've always felt that since I'm always on the go, meditation just ins't for me.
I tried it a few times [sorry Headspace!} -- but it never felt right.
Plus, I've got SO MUCH TO DO! Who can sit there for 20 minutes and not mentally scan your do-to list??
Well, Maya says that she knows a secret to meditation that even the busiest of busy people will love.
In fact, she's one of those types of people.
She's the former [burnt out] CTO of a start up and is currently running her own tech advising company where she has several active clients. She's also the co-founder of The Spring Meditation.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, overworked, and maybe even burnt out -- you're going to dig this episode. You're also going to totally relate to me and Maya's stories about taking on too much and experiencing burn out.

So, you started a business...but you're clueless in the legal department.
Quite honestly, I was too.
The questions I was asking in this episode were all questions I desperately wanted to know myself.
It's really hard to know exactly what legal stuff you should focus on because most lawyers charge by the hour, and in the early days -- we're pinching pennies. I get it.
That's why Wendy is here.
She shares all the things you should be thinking about, and why, without using "scare" tactics. Her heart is in helping female entrepreneurs [part of why I love her!] because she's a mom, too.
On top of all the [free] legal advice, she also talks about reentering the business [legal] world after the five year hiatus she took to have kids. You'll love her perspective on that, too.
Although Wendy is based in NYC, she can work with anyone, anywhere. And as she says in the episode, she'd love to chat with you [at no charge]. Here's how you can schedule that call:

Soshy Adelstein is the owner of Embody Nutrition. She's an incredible, genuine, caring, deep and raw human being....and you know I love people like that! I think you're going to fall in love with her too.
We talk all things FOOD today in the episode. She shares her journey through binge eating, emotional eating, and finally -- intuitive eating. I think her perspective on sugar and diets are a breath of fresh air. I'm curious to hear if you think the same thing! You'll have to drop me a DM on IG to let me know.
If you've been listening to the podcast for long, you know that I had a not-so-nice relationship with food, too. I, too, was a binge eater and even struggled with bulimia for a bit. I've had an emotional relationship with food for...well forever, and I used food as a coping mechanism. So...yeah. I needed this episode! As I mention in the into, food & I have made a lot of progress over the years and most days I feel like I came out victorious. But, then there are days when all my past habits seem like a much easier option and I forget all I've learned. I guess it's balance, right? I tell you this because I want you all to know that it's okay to not have it all figured out just perfectly. There are some listeners out there who (like my husband) can't relate to this episode even for a second because food has always just been fuel. But, those people have their own battles too -- because we've all got that something.
Go on and crush it this week ladies! I want you all to reach out to Soshy in one way or another. Follow her on FB and IG, or reach out and schedule a call with her. I suggest the latter, of course.

Cara Zelas is the founder of The Big World of Little Dude. She is teaching kindness to children all around the world. She is an author and educator originally from Sydney, Australia and now living in New York City with her family and therapy dog, Little Dude.
Meditation ideas for children
Ask your child to select a small plush toy. Lay down on your bed or yoga mat, and place the toy on top of their belly buttons. Ask them to watch the toy as it moves up and down with each breath. Can the toy go higher? Can you make the toy move up and down slower? Faster?
Back to back breathing is such a fun way to connect with your child. Sitting on the floor, sit with you back to each other, with your back resting on your child’s back. Begin taking intentional breaths. Encourage your child to notice: are the breaths shallow, deep, fast, slow? Your breath may even fall in sync with each other.
Working and creating together can be a wonderful way to bond with your child. Make some lavender cloud-dough! Perfect sensory activity, the combination of lavender and kneading the dough is a truly relaxing experience. You can find an easy recipe here!

Be sure to sign up for Marisa's Copy Chat! It starts in just a few days. I will be there, too! It's going to be GREAT.
Episode Summary:
Marissa is a copywriting expert who has a knack for helping her clients real personality shine through their writing. She hasn’t always been a copywriter though — her “first act” was as a theatre acter in NYC. She earned her MFA (the highest performance degree you can get) — and after graduating went back to the grind in NYC. It didn’t take long for her to realize her calling was elsewhere after more and more people started coming to her, asking for help writing. She’s a rockstar when it comes to writing copy that converts.
