Designing Hollywood collaboration with Costume Designer Marilyn Vance. Marilyn's award winning costume designs have appeared in over 62 feature films, television films and mini-series. Vance set the trends of the time with her character designed portrayals in iconic films such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty in Pink and Pretty Woman. Marilyn was also the first female to costume design for the action genre, designing costumes for iconic action blockbusters like 48 hours, Die Hard 1 & 2, The Untouchables, Predator 1 & 2, Time Cop & Road House.
Host Robert Meyer Burnett is an American filmmaker, DVD producer and, online film pundit and YouTuber. Burnett directed Free Enterprise and the short film The Sacred Fire. He has also edited over 10 feature films, and worked as a Star Trek consultant for Viacom Interactive and Paramount Parks' Star Trek: The Experience located at the Las Vegas Hilton. Burnett has twice been a guest of honor at the science, science fiction, and fantasy convention, convergence.
Host concept artist Phillip Boutte Jr. Phillip is known for his work as assistant costume designer for Mattel and Netflix’s upcoming “Masters of the Universe,” has also worked tirelessly for well over a decade to establish himself as a concept artist whom costume designers and studios are eager to work with. With credits such as “Black Panther,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Captain Marvel,” to name just three, Boutte has become one of the few people of color in a field in which directors and star talent can step in and make a difference by championing inclusion. Boutte recently worked on “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” with costume designer Ellen Mirojnick tapping him for concept art.

“What We Do in the Shadows” Emmy winning Costume Designer Laura Montgomery on Dressing Vampires in Flux!
Montgomery's costume design credits include the upcoming Gen V (The Boys spinoff), What We Do in the Shadows Seasons 3,4 and 5, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Small Town Murder Songs (TIFF Official Selection 2010), When Moses Woke (Gemini Award Winner for Best Direction in a Performing Arts Program) and Coopers Christmas (TIFF Official Selection 2008).
Montgomery has won one primetime Emmy and been nominated for three Costume Designer’s Guild awards. She holds an honours degree in French Literature and European History from the University of Toronto.
Cate is an Emmy award-winning and CDGA nominated Costume Designer. She completed formal training in Fashion and Costume Design in her native Britain and has gone on to design feature films, television, ballet, and theatre.
Most recently, she designed HBO’s Perry Mason (Season 2), The Sterling Affairs for FX, and Disney+’s The Mysterious Benedict Society, for which she won an Emmy. Additional credits include Amazon Prime Video’s The Man in the High Castle (Seasons 3 & 4), The Son (Season 1) — a Western for AMC set in 1849 and 1915 — and ABC’s iconic Desperate Housewives.
Cate holds British, American, and Irish passports. And has worked in Vancouver, Dublin, Rome, Nice, Monte Carlo as well as multiple cities across the U.S. When not on location, she calls Los Angeles home.
LUCIANO CAPOZZI was born in Marino, a small town just outside Rome.
After having completed his studies at the State Art Institute in Rome in 1986, Luciano took part in a Costume Designer competition and from the 300 applicants he was one of a few that were selected for the first ever design course to be given by Giulia Mafai, the famous Italian Costume Designer
He graduated with the highest marks possible in his final diploma and began working first as a volunteer and later as an assistant to various professionals; Giulia Mafai included.
During this time he had also begun to do work in his own right as a Costume Designer for both Cinema and the Theatre. The costumes for the Harold Pinter premier of The Basement and Arthur Miller’s Clara were both the work of Luciano. Both of these were staged at a major festival in Italy.
He went on to spend several years designing Costumes for both prominent Opera Houses and Theatre Companies worldwide before turning his hand to the world of Film & TV.
The year 2005 brought the first international film, a co-pro between Spain and Italy, entitled Los Borgia by Antonio Hernandez. His work on this awarded him a nomination for Best Costume Design at the Premio GoyaAwards (Spain’s National Film Awards). Then in 2008 he won 1st prize at the Festival International Cinéma et Costumes (France) and in 2009, 1st prize at the Premios Corona, Spain.
In 2007 his Costumes for Ritorno a Rivombrosa, Directed by Stefano Alleva went on to win the Costume prize at The Rome Fiction Festival. In 2008 he started working on Doctor Clown, a TV series Directed by Maurizio Nichetti and that same year Supervised the Costume Design for Ti Stramo directed by both Pino Insegno & Gianluca Sodaro.
His next project Il falco e la Colomba set in 16th Century Rome was praised by critics and public alike for his stunning work; thus earning him the reputation; without the shadow of a doubt, a Beautiful Designer.
Luciano's experience spans period Costume design through to contemporary design with a strong emphasis on historical high-end TV Drama.
JILL TAYLOR (Costume Designer) was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne and studied Fashion Design at Northumbria University where she obtained her degree.
After graduating she moved into television, primarily working for the BBC as an Assistant Costume Designer, eventually designing her own projects, most notably the BBC’s prestigious Screen One and Screen Two series of one off films.
Jill’s films have included “The Full Monty”, “Sliding Doors”, “Johnny English”,
three films for Woody Allen, “Matchpoint”, “Scoop” and “Cassandra’s Dream”, and “My Week With Marilyn”
Jill has received a BAFTA film nomination for her work on “My Week With Marilyn”, and a BAFTA tv nomination for “The Mill On The Floss”.
She has won a Costume Design Guild Award for “The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers” and was also Emmy nominated for the same project.
Other films include, “Jack Ryan” with Chris Pine, Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner. “The Gunman” with Sean Penn and Javier Bardem, “Criminal” with Kevin Costner and Gary Oldman, “Me Before You” with Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, “The Commuter” with Liam Neeson, “Military Wives” with Kristin Scott Thomas, and “Infinite” with Mark Wahlberg.
For the past three years, Jill has been working on the Mission Impossible franchise with Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One, and is currently now working on Part two.
Huang is an Emmy– and CDGA Award-winning costume designer based in Los Angeles. Known for her most recent work for “Station Eleven” and Apple TV’s “The Shrink Next Door,” her other credits include “Holidate,” “Tall Girl,” and “Rim of the World” for Netflix. She also designed for FOX’s “911,” NBC’s “The Night Shift,” FX’s “American Horror Story: Roanoke,” and MGM’s “Get Shorty.”Her career began in the fashion editorial world and commercials. However, it was through scripted TV and film that she found her true calling, as it combines her love of art and storytelling. She relies heavily on historical reference, literature, and fine arts for her projects, but is greatly inspired by the study of people and cultures. Her north star, so to speak, is to draw inspiration from real life because life itself is always stranger than fiction.
Peter J. Devlin, recently elected as a Governor of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, has worked on more than 70 films and been nominated for five Oscars including Black Panther, Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon, Transformers, Star Trek (2009) and Pearl Harbor. He received a BAFTA nomination for his work on Star Trek and a Primetime Emmy nomination for Star Trek: Picard. He has worked closely with some of the top directors in film, including Michael Bay, Ryan Coogler, Ron Howard and Patty Jenkins. Earlier in the year he wrapped his work on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and is thrilled to have just worked with Chris Pine, who is making his directorial debut with the upcoming film Poolman. A past CAS Board member, it was his first CAS nomination for Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday that introduced him to the organization in 2000. Since then, he has received multiple nominations.
Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Devlin knew that he wanted to work in film after seeing Jaws as a teenager. Though his school principal told him his dreams were “pie in the sky,” he applied for a trainee audio assistant position at the BBC in Belfast in 1981. Initially thinking he might move into the camera department, he quickly realized his true interest was in production sound. To prepare for the interview, he spent his days in the local library reading as much about microphone principles, recording techniques and filmmaking as he could find. He got the job, which proved the perfect training ground, with the BBC’s wide range of productions, from news, to sports, to concerts and to radio drama. “I had great mentors, and I learned about all of the different disciplines of sound there.”
Devlin’s focus and persistence were evident as he took the next step, writing to directors he admired, including Michael Mann. He still has the letter Mann sent him in 1987, inviting him to visit the set of Miami Vice. From there, Devlin forged connections with others in the industry, landing his first job in the United States, working in commercials. Eventually, he moved into television and film.
Today, Devlin continues to adapt to the ever-changing technologies that enhance storytelling through production sound mixing. While he wishes that he had today’s tech for some of the films he worked on in the past, he says, “The most important element will always be the work of the sound department as a team, boom operators and sound utilities. Their expertise allows me to concentrate on recording performance and create tracks that can elevate a scene when they are handed off to our colleagues in post production.”

SAMMY SHELDON (Costume Designer) was born in Manchester and started her career at the Royal Exchange Theatre as a costume maker, then studied Costume Design at Wimbledon School of Art 1990 to 1993. After graduating with a degree, she moved into designing costumes for pop promos and advertising, before becoming an assistant designer on films including Ridley Scott’s & and Jake Scott’s.
She went on to design costumes for Ridley Scott’s Hawk and the mockumentary & starring Orlando Bloom. Sammy has received
BAFTA Film nominations for her work on Morten Tyldum’s “The Imitation

Francisco "Paco" Delgado López is a Spanish costume designer from Lanzarote, Canary Islands. He is best known for his nominations for the Academy Awards in the category of Best Costume Design twice: at the 85th Academy Awards for the film Les Misérables, and at the 88th Academy Awards for the film The Danish Girl. His recent work includes Jungle Cruise, Death on the Nile, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and John Wick 4
Daniel Orlandi is an American costume designer for film and television who regularly collaborated with directors Joel Schumacher, Ron Howard and John Lee Hancock.Born in New Jersey, Orlandi graduated from Carnegie Mellon University and began working Off-Broadway. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1980.Orlandi won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Programming for his work on a television special for the illusionist David Copperfield.] He had received a BAFTA Award nomination for his work on Saving Mr. Banks.4Orlandi's films include Logan, Ford v Ferrari, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Da Vinci Code.Orlandi resides in Los Angeles, California.
The Woman King Costume Designer Gersha Phillips Design The tactile & gorgeous costume’s!
Oscar winner Viola Davis leads a strong cast into battle in an epic from Gina Prince-Bythewood, inspired by real women warriors. Davis is absolutely mesmerizing as the Agojie’s strategist warrior.
Costume designer Gersha Phillips outfitted a literal army for “The Woman King.”
The film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival ahead of its theatrical release, stars Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu and Lashana Lynch. Bolstered by strong critical reviews, the film is already part of the awards conversation heading into fall.
Set in the 1820s, the historical film tells the story of the Agojie, a group of female warriors who protected the West African kingdom of Dahomey. Phillips was familiar with the concept, having assisted Ruth Carter with research on “Black Panther,” which featured a group of fictional female warriors called the Dora Milaje. “The pitch [for ‘The Woman King’] came as ‘this is the story about the real Dora Milaje,’” Phillips says.
Outfitting an army meant creating visual cues to differentiate levels of status and affluence. Signals of wealth in the kingdom included numerous layers of fabrics and jewelry piled onto the body.

Rob Weiss is an American television and film producer, screenwriter, actor, and director. His break came in 1993 when he wrote and directed the 1993 film Amongst Friends. The film was well received at film festivals and scored Weiss a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Weiss was nominated for three Emmy awards for his work on HBO’s “Entourage.” He is more recently known for writing, directing and producing “Ballers,” starring Dwayne Johnson and David John Washington.

Oscar winning costume designer Ruth Carter
who has been part of the television and film industry for 40 years joins the show for an all new exclusive episode!
“This has been a long time coming,” Carter said when she finally won the costume design, Oscar for Black Panther in 2019. Long before the Academy caught up to her greatness, Carter was instrumental in bringing Black culture to the forefront of entertainment.
Many of the projects Carter has worked on are rooted in Blackness and in Black history, including classics like Malcolm X and What’s Love Got To Do With It and more recent projects like Coming 2 America.
As a veteran in the industry, Carter has experienced firsthand how costume designing has evolved over time. From the early years of working with Spike Lee to now, she has mastered the skill of sourcing items for a particular time period. One skill Carter still stands by is research — knowing what people were wearing, what they were like, and what was going on in the world at the time. “I really do direct my focus towards the people and the culture,” Carter explains.
With an expert eye for style and a thumb on the heartbeat of Black culture, Carter's passion for costuming has elevated some of the most important stories of our time.

Emmy award nominee Christine Bieselin Clark is a Los Angeles-based Costume Designer with over 20 years of experience designing for film, TV and theater. Her work on Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard earned Christine her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes as well as a Costume Designers Guild nomination. Her TV credits further include costume designing AMC’s Into the Badlands; and the TV movie Marvel’s Most Wanted. Powell uses the power of clothes to bring to life some of Hollywood’s most unforgettable roles. Her own sense of style is just as memorable.
With three Oscars on her South London mantlepiece, for: Shakespeare in Love (1999), The Aviator (2005) and The Young Victoria (2010), Powell’s creative talent is undoubtable. Beginning in 1992 with a nomination for Orlando, directed by Sally Potter and starring Tilda Swinton, she has been nominated for 15 Academy Awards and 16 Baftas, across her career.
Sandy has worked on over 40 films including five Martin Scorsese flicks, probably because, ‘Scorsese is a shoe man. Top Gun: Maverick is not just the first time a Tom Cruise film brought in more than $100 million on opening weekend—it made nearly a quarter of a billion dollars, wildly surpassing expectations and records set by superhero blockbusters The Batman and most recently Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. These numbers are impressive on their own but in the context of empty theaters after two years of the pandemic, they are truly astonishing.
Making such a hard-won success look effortless is de rigor for costume designer Marlene Stewart, whose credits include Oblivion and Tropic Thunder. She treats the accomplishment with characteristic sincerity. “I have worked with the late Tony Scott before and collaborated with Tom Cruise on several movies, so it also was an honor,” says Stewart.
On this project, the magnitude of the original film’s success loomed large. “The challenge was to design another movie and to give it a great look without changing the heart and soul,” Stewart explains. In many ways, that heart and soul was embodied in a particular garment. Tom Cruise in his flight jacket is an image that has resonated ever since the film premiered. Reproducing the jacket was an exercise in precision, investigation, and determination. “It was one of our hardest, most important tasks.
That attention to detail meant that other costumes had to get a similar amount of attention so that they would all fit in the same heightened reality. “In a testament to Joe Kosinski’s film-making and Tom Cruise as an actor and producer, many of the most exciting scenes are real U.S. Navy pilots flying actual planes, not CG. In this spirit of authenticity, many of the costumes, despite being uniforms, also were custom made.” The results are costumes that leap off the screen as much as the action.

Ellen Mirojnick is an American costume designer. She is a frequent collaborator of actor Michael Douglas, having overseen the costume design for the films Fatal Attraction (1987), Wall Street (1987), Basic Instinct (1992), A Perfect Murder (1998), Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010) and Behind the Candelabra (2013). The wardrobe which she created for the character of Gordon Gekko inspired a fashion trend in the late 1980s and early 1990s for boldly patterned ties, sleek suits, crisp white shirts, and colorful suspenders in men's business wear. She has also been a frequent collaborator of directors Jan de Bont and Paul Verhoeven, acting as costume designer on de Bont's films Speed (1994), Twister (1996) and The Haunting (1999), as well as Verhoeven's films Basic Instinct (1992), Showgirls (1995), Starship Troopers (1997) and Hollow Man (2000).
She won an Emmy and a Costume Designers Guild Award in 2013 for her work on the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra. In 2016 she was given the Career Achievement Award by the Costume Designers Guild. In 2017 she gained further praise for her work on The Greatest Showman, which garnered her a further nomination for Excellence in Period Film with the Costume Designers Guild.

Earlier credits include The Bourne Legacy, directed by Tony Gilroy–the Jeremy Renner-starring sequel to The Bourne Ultimatum, directed by Paul Greengrass, for which she also designed the costumes.
She has worked with an array of distinguished filmmakers, such as James L. Brooks, John Sayles, Gary Sinise, Taylor Hackford, Rob Reiner, Harold Ramis, Steve Zaillian, Brad Silberling, Amy Heckerling, David Mamet, Tarsem Singh, and Ken Kwapis. Cunliffe tapped into her musical theater roots when she teamed with Rob Marshall on the television movie version of Annie, for which she won a Costume Designers Guild Award and received an Emmy nomination.

Marcella Ochoa was born in San Antonio, Texas and after living in San Diego, CA moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career in entertainment. She started off her career in the International Publicity department for Sony Pictures Entertainment where she was instrumental in the marketing campaigns traveling the world for the studio’s major films. She left Sony to be the Head of Development for producer Harald Kloser’s (Midway, Independence Day: Resurgence, White House Down, 2012) production company. She also worked closely with his producing partner, world-renowned director Roland Emmerich on several TV and film projects. A supernatural thriller she co-wrote and produced, Discarnate, was released On Demand in 2019. She started her own production company where she has several TV and film projects in development. Through her company she wrote, directed, produced, and was the lead actress in her short film My Name is Maria de Jesus. The film is based on her family growing up in Texas, and the racism they endured for being Mexican American. It did well on the festival circuit where it received several awards, and premiered on HBO Latino in July of 2019. Carey revolutionized medical scrubs with her designs for the actors on the TV show SCRUBS. Her tailored, comfortable and modern looking designs were so in demand, especially by female doctors and nurses who wanted to reclaim their curves, that she eventually created her own line called BEST EVER SCRUBS. Carey’s currently waiting out the pandemic in Burbank, California with her husband and greatest design to date, her 10 year daughter, who Carey describes as a creative force of nature in her own right.

Shawna Tprcic (Costume Designer) got her start in the industry with the 1990 film "Megaville" and went on to work as a costume assistant on the movie "Toys," nominated for an Academy Award for Costume Design and was the costume design illustrator for "Bugsy," which won the Oscar for Costume Design, and then designed "Red Shoe Diaries." She later served as the costume designer on Joss Whedon's "Firefly," "Angel," "Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," "Dollhouse," "Cabin in the Woods," and "Much Ado About Nothing."
Shawna also served as Costume Designer for "Torchwood: Miracle Day" and "Spongebob Squarepants 3" before being asked to join the team of "The Mandalorian" for season 2, which follows the Mandalorian and the Child as they continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

Helen Huang is a renowned respected designer who has worked on various projects from American Horror Story, Fox’s 9-1-1, as well as reshoots for Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipating of One Harley Quinn. Huang chatted with us offering insight into her latest project, Netflix’s Holidate, which stars Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, and Kristin Chenoweth as well as her career as a whole.
I did think back to rom-coms where the costumes are things that I enjoy. I think in general, for me, when it comes to dividing the look of characters and things in a film, it’s less about referencing other movies. It’s more about, my original philosophy is generally for any movie, but in reference to rom-coms, from my perspective, I didn’t want to do a rom-com where the girl starts out really sad. And then [saying] “I need clothes” and she needs a guy and then looking completely different. I would think that that is not how women act in real life, and in general not how humans react in real life. So it was very important to me, especially with Sloane, that we just sort of say, “she’s a girl that dresses this way.” So when she’s sad, she pulls these things out of her closet — you’re in your sweats and t-shirt, but they don’t look different. She doesn’t look like she’s a whole different person.

Meet Dayna Pink:
Thanks to one simple shirt, Lovecraft Country's dreamy wardrobe was born. If you have been tuning in to Misha Green's supernatural horror series on HBO, you know the show is no casual watch. The anthology series, which hones in on the supernatural experiences of a Black family in 1950s Jim Crow America, can be exciting, moving, puzzling and downright horrifying with each passing twist and turn. But, there is something about the show that won't make you want to cover your eyes—and that's the clothes. With Dayna Pink at the helm of the costume design, the show visually transports us back to the colorful, glamorous dress of the 1950s in fresh ways, all while against the nightmarish backdrop of the period. "[I was] lucky enough that I didn't have to keep to the letter of exactly what that period was we had—because this is a fantasy in a way," Pink told E! News exclusively. "There's [a] fantastical element to it, so I got to add that with what I was doing." Given the otherworldly plot, Pink could break the fashion rules of history. "I got to take the real silhouettes and the real pieces and then add fashion to that, so sometimes I would take a shape of something from that time and then build it out of a modern fabric," she explained. "The colors and the fabrics and the prints of that time maybe were a little different, so I got to mix it up, which was what was so creative and fun about doing the show." As Pink put it, she and her team got to "take this period and sort of stand it on its head." The standard black tuxedo men donned to awards shows for decades is quickly becoming an outmoded uniform. From bold colors, to striking textures, to novel silhouettes, men’s awards show looks are now just as fashion-forward as women’s. “It was a slow evolution and then a really quick evolution,” says Ilaria Urbinati, who styles Rami Malek, Bradley Cooper and John Krasinski. “Ten years ago when ‘Mad Men’ first came out, that had a big influence. And then I did that line of suiting with Albert Hammond Jr. that was all color, which nobody was doing. And then wardrobe designer Dayna Pink bought the suits to put on Ryan Gosling for ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.’ That movie was such a revolution for menswear, because it was all about giving Steve Carell a makeover and how, if you dress for the life you want, then you’ll get the life.”

Ruth has designed costumes for iconic films such as 'Black Panther' 'Malcom X' ' Dolemite Is My Name' and 'Amistad', just to name a few. Ruth shares her story about how she went from being a 'typical high-school drama kid' to gravitating into a career in costume design, eventually getting to work with legendary directors like Spike Lee and Keenen Ivory Wayans.
