Having a plan for achieving your goals. In this episode we talk about how to set S.M.A.R.T. goals for your business.
- Having a plan for achieving your goals (1:09)
- Becomes a list of what you do and what you don’t want to do (1:15)
- Did you make a resolution? Did you find it hard to stick to the resolution? Then the resolution just went away. (1:52)
- SMART goals stands for Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time based (3:45)
- In your business Specific might mean that you want to grow your following on Instagram
- Measurable, for example it's January 1st and you have 100 followers and you want to grow your following, you can measure that by January 30th you want to have 200 followers
- Achievable, making it happen, are you going to post everyday, every other day, twice a day, every two days or maybe do an Instagram live every Wednesday? How many stories you want to post. In essence, what are you doing exactly to make that happen?
- Relevant, does it make sense? Question whether it is relevant to your business, do you need Instagram for your business? Rather maybe it is Youtube or Linkedin.
- Time based, when do you want to achieve that by? What time do you want to do this? A month, a year?
- Smart goals are not just for your business but it is applicable to everything. (6:30)
- Marathon analogy (7:20)
- Having big goals and understanding that everything will not happen overnight (9:37)
- Setting goals in a quarterly basis (10:09)
“ENERGY FLOWS WHERE INTENTION GOES.”
As you move forward in building and growing you business, make sure to always take time to evaluate where you are so you can feel confident tht your energy is being put in the right direction, and that what you are doing is in alignment with what you know is your to do.

It all started when I needed to write up a thesis for my Masters in Photography program. A side from presenting my photography work, I needed to answer this question:
Where do you see yourself in five years?
The answer to this question was quite daunting for many reasons. So because I needed to have something written down, I did just that, I wrote a list of things that I wanted to do the same way that I would write a grocery list. No plan, no thing. Attribute this lack of planning to part of my failure, however this actually led me to something even better.
Those of us who operate businesses online whether partially or entirely, might feel ok (ish) when it comes to handling technology that helps move the business forward. However, many business owners are finding themselves in a situation where they are forced to move part of their business operations online.
With this in mind, here are some tips you can do to help keep your business moving forward during times of crisis.

Today’s episode was inspired by a recent conversation I had with a close friend of mine. She’s a very crafty person and has always been great at making things with her hands. Recently, she decided to make her hobby a business. Naturally, I was ecstatic and super excited to hear this! When she first told me, I immediately started talking to her about marketing and social media, and I probably got a bit carried away and might have made her feel a bit overwhelmed.
Fast forward a few months and she’s gotten some business and she’s making profit which is great! As we were talking about products and marketing she told me she had gone to a local craft show to check out what people are doing and do some business research. She didn’t participate as a vendor, she only attended the event as a potential client. Then she says “It is so saturated. There were like several other people doing the same thing. How can I stand out?” This is really what got me thinking.

Measurable, for example it's January 1st and you have 100 followers and you want to grow your following, you can measure that by January 30th you want to have 200 followers
Achievable, making it happen, are you going to post everyday, every other day, twice a day, every two days or maybe do an Instagram live every Wednesday? How many stories you want to post. In essence, what are you doing exactly to make that happen?
Relevant, does it make sense? Question whether it is relevant to your business, do you need Instagram for your business? Rather maybe it is Youtube or Linkedin.
Time based, when do you want to achieve that by? What time do you want to do this? A month, a year?
Smart goals are not just for your business but it is applicable to everything. (6:30)

I am a professional wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer based in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have been a business owner and a photographer for over 10 years, I was born and bred in Puerto Rico and I am happily married to my wonderful husband Ben. We have two beautiful fur babies, Padme and Archer. I love plants, I love animals. I eat plants, I do not eat animals. I speak 5 languages, Spanish is my mother tongue, English, French, Italian a little bit of Porteguese and because I like to keep things interesting I’m even learning Arabic. I love to run and I am all about hanging out and watching Netflix movies with my pups and I really really love my coffee.
I have a Bachelor’s in communications from the University of Puerto Rico, and there I learned a lot of cinematography and film. Eventually, I went ahead and decided I wanted to get a masters in Graphic Design from Atlantic University, also in Puerto Rico. After that I made the big decision and got a masters in fine arts and photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
So now that you know a little bit more about me, let me tell you what you can expect from me moving forward here in the Focus and Bloom podcast. I’ll be sharing with you a brand new podcast every week right here on this platform.
