In this episode of Love and Business, Dhayany and Demetrius are joined by Doug and Lorrisa, a power couple running a real estate business together who originally met online. When they first met, Lorrisa worked as a nurse in the ICU and Doug had already begun his entrepreneur journey. Today they discuss how they came together and built their business up through sacrifice and teamwork.
Doug and Lorrisa discuss the beginning of their relationship and how they both recognized in each other a hard-working inclination. They talk about the initial sacrifices they made in order to build their vision, which for them means being able to live life on their own terms.
Most couples will face adversity in any relationship, so Lorrisa and Dhayany talk about how to move through that uncertainty and past obstacles in order to keep on the path you want with your partner.
Doubts are always going to present themselves, but do you interpret those voices in the back of your head? This is even more relevant now during the pandemic. The couples discuss how they are still pushing through with their plans at this time while on lockdown.
Dhayany and Demetrius know that in order for your entrepreneurial vision to work, both you and your partner have to be on the same page and set solid boundaries. In today’s episode, Demetrius and Dhayany will discuss losing control. It is a very common aspect nowadays especially with the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. All couples are going through the issue of losing control and it is affecting the individuals, their relationships, and their businesses.
No one can control what goes on or what might happen in the coming days, and Dhayany reminds the listeners that the only one in control is God. Demetrius agrees and brings up an interesting point about people who don’t believe in Gob. Dhayany recommends that we accept the feeling of not being in control without stressing out.
We are encouraged to have a good attitude, especially if we are the only house member currently working, because that’s the way to keep others empowered. Dhayany insists on not overthinking the idea of controlling any event to avoid the possible backlash and total loss of control; have faith in God and his control instead.
Demetrius explains steps to be done by those who currently feel out of control. He suggests figuring out what you want next, changing your mindset and discussing everything with family your members. Take this time to reevaluate all relationships and get rid of any negativity. After, he shares his thoughts son how to make the most of your funds during the pandemic.
The couple agrees that this year will be an intense year of growth and innovation. Then, it will be followed with a very successful year for many people as a result of all the effort and time spent on self-improvement.

Season two of Love and Business begins in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Demetrius and Dhayany have been spending a lot of time together because of COVID-19 and it’s resulted in an amazing experience. They have found a lot of family time and been able to work on all their businesses. Today, they’ll be discussing what coronavirus has done for their love life and how it can affect yours.
There’s been an increase in divorces since the pandemic began, so Demetrius and Dhayany share their thoughts on that. Dhayany believes that discussing divorce means you’ve lost your purpose as a couple. We hear about other struggles that put a strain on marriages right now before Demetrius gives some business advice.
Have you been working on a solid foundation in your relationship? It’s a prime time to build that foundation even if you haven’t been working on it at all. You can start by sitting down and discussing how you and your partner communicate.
More obstacles facing couples during COVID-19 include homeschooling and not feeling attractive anymore. There are easy ways to overcome these that Demetrius and Dhayany tell us about. They both also agree that sex is so important right now, and just because there may be extra people in your house, that’s not an excuse to abstain.
If you’ve ever thought of starting your own business, start now. Figure out how you can do it as a couple, focus on your strengths, and you will find success. You can absolutely be a power couple by the time the summer comes if you use your new free time wisely.
Demetrius has built his life on “faith it ‘til you make it,” and Dhayany says that he also built their
relationship on this philosophy. Today, the two talk about what this phrase means and how we
can use it to strengthen our businesses and relationships.
Demetrius starts out by expressing his thankfulness to God. His faith has been structured
around God’s principles, and this has allowed Demetrius to achieve everything that he has. He
then shares a story about the conversation he had with God after losing his job, provoking
Dhayany to talk about her very similar experience. We hear about how entrepreneurs need to
make things happen for themselves and are not able to depend on anyone else.
Dhayany begins to share some ways that we can increase our faith, starting with simply writing
down goals. Another tip is to accept that mistakes will happen, and Demetrius adds that life is
all about getting tested. He leads us through a test of his own and challenges us to think of a
situation that we did not make it through. We learn that having faith in ourselves is just as
important as having faith in the process.
We need to control which thoughts we are focusing our attention on. Dhayany reflects on a
time when she prayed and promised to herself that she would refuse to live her life in anxiety,
which allowed her to leave behind the negative thoughts that were chained to it. Always trying
to reach the next level, the couple say that any entrepreneur’s life is full of risks that are
necessary and can be handled in a healthy way. Instead of fretting, Dhayany asserts that now
she always believes that what she and Demetrius have set out to do will happen by the grace of
God. She refuses to put any negative energy out into the world. Demetrius comments on
Dhayany’s growth from his perspective.
Dhayany recalls an old ex once telling her that their life wasn’t a fairy tale, which made her
realize that he was not the one. Demetrius agrees that if we are around people like this, we
need to get rid of them. To have a power couple lifestyle, we must believe in ourselves. This
thought prompts Demetrius to tell us one of his daily prayers and discuss how to evoke
confidence in ourselves. He explains how God snatched everything from him when he was in a
great place in life, but that his faith allowed him to rebound and find greater success.
Ultimately, life is like a puzzle. Dhayany declares that we don’t meet people or make mistakes
by accident, but that these events all come together to form our desired version of life. We
must strongly believe that we deserve what we want, and Dhayany says that April can be a
fantastic month for us if we take on this view. Joy will manifest like never before. This is the
positive energy that she is putting into our lives that she wants us to recite every day moving
forward. Positive vibes only
Dhayany and Demetrius have realized that a lot of couples don’t understand that you cannot secure a new bag successfully without getting rid of the old bag. Meaning, you cannot grow as a couple until you make all of your internal issues known to your partner. Dhayany and Demetrius want us to do this exercise with our partners tonight and guide us through how it should be approached.
The first point discussed is Bondage, with Demetrius stating that it cripples a lot of relationships. Dhayany says that when they see one half of a couple in bondage, that person often doesn’t even realize it. She adds that another aspect they don’t realize if how bondage affects the people around them.
The next facet is tearing down the walls. After they are torn down, Dhayany encourages learning to build with a vision which she says can be accomplished through affirmations. The two then relate this to becoming a power couple.
The healing process is the third topic of discussion, and Demetrius begins it by talking about how it can be fun. Dhayany asserts that even though it can be fun, it’s also scary. However, she claims that if we know that our partner wants what is best for us, we need to trust the process. A discussion then begins about forgiveness.
Dhayany and Demetrius had to go through this exercise themselves, so they reflect on what that process looked like for them. Demetrius recalls that an important part was understanding the benefits of doing it instead of just making sure it gets done.
If you’re a person who sees further ahead than most people, you cannot date someone who doesn’t have the same vision. This is the focus of Dhayany and Demetrius in this episode because they see couples with this problem all the time. They relate this concept to the differences between an eagle and a pigeon and assert that you will not soar high in your visions if you need to carry along a pigeon.
Dhayany encourages us to take a second to imagine the next five to ten years. She provides examples of questions we should be asking ourselves and says that when we visualize these things, they can actually happen. Demetrius then speaks to why these questions are important when trying to grow a business. We then hear about the crucial differences between sight and vision.
It’s important to understand how we can translate what our vision is to our partner. Dhayany comments on the fact that if she were a pigeon, she would have wasted a lot of Demetrius’ time by tearing apart his ideas and visions. The two then recall how they used to sell their new cars soon after acquiring them in order to fund investment opportunities.
Demetrius gets into the complications that can arise when a mutual vision isn’t discussed or agreed upon in a relationship. He explains why women are incubators in the life of men who always give back more than they take, and then Dhayany brings up the precautions that should be taken when investing in a relationship. We finish by learning from Dhayany a way to judge the character of a woman.
A concept that Dhayany and Demetrius use in their relationship as well as their business is going the extra mile. To go the extra mile, you have to prepare for it, and preparing for it takes practice. If you prepare yourself for the extra mile while everyone else is just preparing for the finish line, you’ll blow by them.
In following this philosophy, Dhayany says that she and Demetrius prepared for their relationship in some ways that other people deemed unnecessary. We listen in on a discussion of what this preparation entailed, including the pre-marital counselling that the couple participated in. They then talk about how we will often go the extra mile for our business but not for our partner.
Dhayany asserts that she is in business with her husband to create generational wealth, but this goes beyond just money and opportunity. The two say that we must go the extra mile to maintain our family in the same way that we would go the extra mile to provide our customers with great value. Going the extra mile goes deeper than expecting things from our partner just because we think we are entitled to them.
To finish this episode, we are provided with a walk-through of the five steps to follow to go the extra mile: practice for it, prepare for it, understand what your partner or market likes, communicate the message effectively, and be consistent with your messaging.
Remember, when you go the extra mile, there’s no traffic. There will be a huge benefit because not many people are willing to go there.
Putting your mouth on your man is all about speaking things into his existence. If you have a man that’s trying to accomplish something, are you downplaying his goals or uplifting them? Don’t make your man feel like what he’s trying to accomplish is not the right thing to pursue. As soon as you put your mouth on him the wrong way, it could all be a wrap.
Dhayany says that she hasn’t always struggled with what Demetrius has been doing, but has always had an opinion. At times those opinions have came off as negative, making Dhayany realize that she needed to check herself. She asserts that a woman needs to be her man’s biggest cheerleader and we are treated to some roleplay to convey this message.
Supporting your man is sometimes easier said than done. Particularly, when you’re in a relationship with an entrepreneur and they’re trying to figure out their path. Dhayany expresses that she definitely gets that and then asks Demetrius to provide some advice for women in situations like this. He encourages focusing on progress instead of success, and Dhayany then dishes some of her own advice to male entrepreneurs.
Next, we learn about how men can put their mouth on their woman the wrong way too. Demetrius says that men sometimes accuse their woman of not supporting them enough, thus being the driver of their failure. Even if things don’t turn out how the man wants, he still needs to applaud his woman for having his back.
Nobody else should like your accomplishments more than your partner. Dhayany provides some final advice, including her stance that we should always encourage each other even when the situation looks a little bit bleak.
Dhayany and Demetrius are here today to introduce the first episode of their podcast. They are excited because they finally get to put all their thoughts, their experiences, and what they’ve seen in the sessions they’ve had with over a hundred couples in one place.
Demetrius starts off by expressing his thanks to everything Dhayany has done in their twelve-year relationship before Dhayany gets into talking about power couples. She provides her definition of what a power couple is and asserts that money has nothing to do with it. We then hear a detailed list of attributes that power couples possess.
A discussion begins regarding that often, one person in the power couple can perform a task better than the other. The two then speak a little about their backgrounds and the first investment that they did together, including an interesting story about Demetrius getting a financial background check done on Dhayany. She then discusses how she is smart with credit while Demetrius’ speciality is cash.
A conversation ignites about joint bank accounts, with both Dhayany and Demetrius claiming that a couple cannot grow together if their bank accounts are separated. This is then compared to how within a company, everyone is part of a department and knows what their position is. The couple say that in a relationship, both people need to know their role.
Demetrius contends that we need to be willing to adapt to change for our businesses to become better. He says that once we open up and let other people be on our team, that’s when we will find success. Dhayany adds that this vision needs to start within our relationships.
