The boys are back after a disastrous Week 13 of NFL betting, with upsets galore and nothing going to script, except for the Stats Insider model, which had a very solid week of projections.

Luckily the season has still been incredibly profitable for all three lads, with records in the black across the board.

Before getting stuck into Week 14 action, the boys chat College Football and the annual Ray Guy Award, presented to the NCAA's most outstanding CFB Punter. Australia's own Dane Roy, friend of Woot & Wye, and Stats Insider's College Football correspondent on the ground, has been announced as one of the three finalists for the award after a phenomenal season for the University of Houston Cougars. Dane comes up against another Australian in former Fremantle Docker, Max Duffy of Kentucky.

He's a ripper bloke, so vote for Dane (or Max... but really, Dane!) at the Ray Guy Award Fan Vote website.

Josh asks, "What now for Nick Foles?" after the Jags' $88 million man was benched for rookie, Gardner Minshew, who filled in admirably when Foles was injured earlier in the season. He also takes the NFL 100 list to task, specifically calling out the decision to not even nominate Justin Tucker at kicker, and the selection of Patrick Peterson over Richard Sherman at CB.

The number one question on Nick's mind is around the disappointment of what promised to be an elite battle between Philadelphia and Dallas in the NFC East. While the Division is still open for the taking to both teams - and somehow Washington - the two Playoff hopefuls have had disastrous seasons and might be left ruing missed opportunities come Wildcard weekend.

James welcomes 'the reckoning' to NFL coaching ranks following Week 13. with Carolina Panther HC, 'Riverboat' Ron Rivera the first domino to fall, pointing to an offseason where up to a quarter of the league's franchises could be looking for a new head coach.

Nick, James & Josh are back from an underwhelming Week 12 for the annual Thanksgiving Edition of The Punt Return.

They open the show listing everything they are thankful for and in particular it’s the exciting young blood we have at the quarterback positions in the NFL that have them talking.

Nick mentions that, for the first time in close to 18 months, the Stats Insider Model has a team not named “The New England Patriots” favourite to win the Super Bowl.

The guys recap their lukewarm Week 12 betting results, with the 2-0 Lock of the Week record being an absolute shining light. In looking back at Week 12, only two teams really came to mind for the boys: the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers.

Josh mentions that John Harbaugh is his frontrunner for 'Coach of the Year' while Nick asks if the MVP race is over?

Funnily enough, the two hottest teams in all of sports, play each other in Week 13 in what could be a Super Bowl preview. Before getting to that game later in their comprehensive Week 13 preview, the guys look at the Thanksgiving slate with three Friday games on the cards.

The pick of the bunch is Buffalo travelling to Dallas. James mentions that the Cowboys are a top 5 team in the NFL against the spread coming off a loss in the Dak Prescott & Ezekiel Elliott era.

The guys are expecting plenty of fireworks in the deadly rematch between the Browns and the Steelers just two weeks after the Myles Garrett and Mason Rudolph incident. The Steelers have made a change at the quarterback position and it’s that change that has Josh excited about the Steelers prospects in this game. He’s all aboard the Devlin “Duck” Hodges Train. Quack Quack!

The obvious matchup of the week between the Ravens & 49ers had the guys busting out all sorts of statistics to make their case. With Nick talking up the improved play of Jimmy G over the last month, James mentioning the insane turnaround of the Ravens secondary after a torturous first six weeks and Josh highlighting the mismatch on the defensive line for the 49ers with Ravens center Matt Skura placed on IR this week. This lead to a split panel for the spread pick in this match.

The Week 13 podcast also features a reversal of apologies by James & Nick to the Oakland Raiders, an AFC South Immunity Badge (whatever the hell that is), some Derwin James love and Josh has a stat on a teams ATS record when playing under a retractable roof.

Nick, James & Josh are back from a helmet hitting Week 11 for a massive Week 12 Edition of the The Punt Return Podcast.

Week 12 features five huuuuuuge games between playoff contenders and Nick has - and rightly so - been hyping this slate up for over a month now.

Before looking at the Week 12 action, the guys cast their eyes back and talk about THAT Myles Garrett incident, Colin Kaepernick’s situation (mostly that he should be starting for the Chicago Bears this week, instead of Mitch Trubisky) and James highlights the blazing form of Kirk Cousins.

Week 11 saw the team with the better record win 11 of the 12 games. The born-again Atlanta Falcons proving to be the lone exception with their comprehensive beatdown of the Carolina Pretenders... err, Panthers. The guys throw up some possible theories on where the Falcons turn around has come from and Nick cuts loose on the Panthers.

Week 12 kicks off with a blockbuster divisional game between the Colts and the Texans. The winner will take control of the AFC South and for the Colts open up a healthy game and half gap from the rest of the pack. Josh mentions the importance of T.Y Hilton in this game, noting that he averages over 127 yards at games played at NRG Stadium.

The Eagles look to keep their playoff hopes alive when they host the Seattle Seahawks and the crew all agree that it is a necessity for Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles to get their offense back on track after a lacklustre five weeks, against the 22nd ranked DVOA defense.

Nick then pounds the table stating that “the Baltimore Ravens are the best team in football” and provides a plethora of stats to back his take up. He also continues the trend of Saints players in his weekly long shot throwing up an Alvin Kamara play against the putrid Carolina run defense.

Nick, James & Josh are all back on deck for the Week 11 Edition of The Punt Return Podcast.

Josh opens the show discussing the curveballs that the NFL continually throws out, with not only three 1-7 teams claiming victory in Week 10, but it was the first time since 2001 that a team on a losing streak of at least six games beat a team on a winning streak of at least six games (Atlanta Falcons def. New Orleans Saints).

The boys then turn their attention to some other Week 10 takeaways, with James brings up the possibility of a Super Bowl "Sleeper in Seattle."

Can Russell Wilson lead the Seahawks through a vaunted NFC to hoist another Lombardi Trophy? James certainly thinks so.

Wilson is also very much in the mix for the NFL MVP award, which Nick mentions is completely wide open after yet another perfect performance from Baltimore's Lamar Jackson.

After recapping another successful week of results, the crew then look ahead to Week 11, which looks to be a tricky slate, featuring some blockbuster matches including a Super Bowl LII rematch between the Philadelphia Eagles & New England Patriots.

The boys debate how many times the phrase “Philly Special” will be said during the broadcast, with Nick hoping to see the vision of Super Bowl MVP Nick "Philly Philly" Foles as many times as possible.

The Detroit Lions vs Dallas Cowboys match sparked some madness from Josh, who, for the third time this year, called out 'Matthew Edwards F#*&!ng Patricia' and his tendency to blow leads, but then the discussion took a 90 degree turn towards Dallas HC, Jason Garrett, and a very good discussion on the Cowboys play-calling, especially in key moments where they continue to take the ball out of Dak Prescott’s hands.

Followers of the show will know Nick has been on an absolute tear on long shot picks this season, and the apple of his eye this week is 'Magic Mike' Thomas. The New Orleans Saints' WR has been phenomenal since Drew Brees’ return, and Nick expects that to continue against a hapless Buccaneers secondary.

Yes, that's right! A massive Week 10 is on the schedule and the Punt Return boys are back to guide you through it all.

Week 9's 'Lock of the Week' was a push on the Seahawks -6 line, but nevermind, we're still 6-2-1 on the season for locks.

Josh went 2-1 for a season record sitting at 16-8-1, while Nick also went two wins and a loss (how could the Jets lose to the Dolphins?!), but his 19-9 leads the pack, not to mention ANOTHER long-shot win as the Ravens upset the then-unbeaten Patriots. "Why not the Ravens?" he said. 

Great call, Nick, great call.

Josh laments the Bears' Mitch Trubisky... "He just ain't it." Chicago put up a 40-year NFL-low NINE TOTAL YARDS with just two first downs in the first half against what isn't a particularly good Philadelphia Eagles pass defense last week. 

"How good is NFL at the moment?" asks Nick, looking at the Week 10's fixtures before a sneak peek at Week 12's blockbuster matchup schedule.

Meanwhile, James is back on board this week, loving the Ravens win. The Pats are indeed human, and Baltimore, well, they are legitimate contenders in 2019/20.

With the Broncos, Texans, Jaguars, Patriots, Eagles and Redskins ALL on a bye in Week 10, the lads get stuck into the short week's matchups, covering each game one-by-one and weighing up the pros and cons of each H2H, line and total points market on offer.

It's over. The great long shot streak of 2019 is over.

We went into Week 7 with 3 undefeated: the Patriots, 49ers, and Nick's long shot streak.

Only two remain as Nick finally whiffed for the first time in season 2019.

James may have found a new passion as he went 2-0 on his Week 7 plays, having generally focused on the long-term futures market to date.

Josh had another good week and sits at 13-7 for the year on his best bets, but is still looking for a second long shot win after missing out on T.Y Hilton and Cooper Kupp prop plays last week.

But enough of ancient history! Let's look at Week 8!

The boys are back for Week 7 of the NFL after another good week on the punt.

The LOCK OF THE WEEK saluted for the third straight week, while Nick's hot streak continued on another week. The boys (Nick & Josh) are now a collective 23-13 on best bets, while James' future book is starting to flex after another MVP performance from Russell Wilson.

Josh says it's all over in Atlanta, but makes the point that this cannot be blamed on QB Matt Ryan, who, despite the franchise's terrible record, is having another fantastic year by the numbers.

"Friends don't let friends blame Matt Ryan," he says.

Nick and James are raving about Seattle and where this team can go in season 2019-20, despite not having any depth in their receiving corps and featuring the worst Seahawks defense in years. Which leads us to what Nick calls his "Game of the Week."

Seattle host Baltimore in a clash of Top 5 DVOA offenses, where all the lads feel should set up well again for Russell Wilson. The Saints head to Chicago in the game that features Week 7's LOCK OF THE WEEK, where all 3 agree on a single play.

Before jumping into the Week 2 lines, the lads recap their Week 1 Results with Josh pounding the table in disgust at conservative coaching - especially from Matt Patricia and Vic Fangio - while Nick shares his elation in Lamar Jackson's form. James makes an interesting observation about the state of the running game in the NFL and wonders how that will play out with a very anti-run analytics community in NFL fandom. Looking ahead at Week 2, starting with Thursday Night Football's #CARvsTB clash, and the show was glowing in its praise of Kellen Moore and his new-look Dallas offense and are all keen to see the Cowboys produce again. They then discuss how to approach such a massive line with the Patriots being 18.5 point favourites on the road against the Dolphins, before Josh then puts his foil hat on and proceeds to tell everyone to bet on the Dolphins moneyline because of a Bill Belichick conspiracy theory.

One game sparked some debate with Josh & Nick again clashing over the Houston Texans. Is Nick too high on the Texans? Or is Josh too low? James seems to think the answer lies in the middle. Barring wildcard weekend, the 2018 postseason has gone completely chalk with the four top seeds filling the final four spots of the season. This is the first time since 2015 that the NFL playoffs have featured the No. 1 Seed vs No. 2 Seed in both the AFC & NFC championship games. One more interesting wrinkle for this weekend is that both games are rematches of regular season fixtures that featured 80 or more points.

In the Conference Championship edition of The Punt Return Podcast, Darryl Data & Wye open the show recapping their average results in the divisional round. The Rams being the only team that they both won on. Kansas City helped Darryl and the model to a winning week while the Chargers & Colts let Wye down.

Before going game by game with their picks, bets and DFS plays, the show mentions some interesting tidbits about this particular round of the playoffs, including:

• The last time a team went to the Super Bowl that won a road playoff game at all was the 2012 season. Home teams in the conference championships are 10-0 over the past five seasons and 8-2 ATS. The last two were both the Ravens and 49ers in that 2012 season.
• It’s the first time since the merger that the league’s four highest-scoring teams are the last four remaining in the postseason.
• All 4 remaining head coaches have won the coach of the year award.

The first game of championship Sunday will be held in the Superdome with the New Orleans Saints hosting the Los Angeles Rams. The SI Model likes the Rams here at the +3.5 point spread, with a considerable edge in favour of the Rams. Wye is on the same page but finds this game incredibly tough to play, stating:

“The Week 9 matchup between these two teams went in favour of the Saints, that’s why this game is being held in New Orleans. These two teams are drastically different now with different injuries across the board but importantly the return of Aqib Talib. Talib should do a better job of containing Michael Thomas who exploited the Rams for 211 yards in their last meeting. Offensive lines will be the story of this game as the Rams dominance last week proving to the difference maker, if they can get things going on the ground it will allow Jared Goff to establish play action and also keep the Saints off the field. Aaron Donald’s matchup against an injured Andrus Peat will be pivotal, Brees' difference in performance when pressured as opposed to free of pressure is drastic (the third-greatest in the NFL). The Saints defense has dramatically improved since midseason but their offense has been in a bit of a lull and has resulted in a 1-5 against the spread record across their last six games. While I think the Saints win this game, going to 7-0 all time in Sean Payton home playoff games, I’m expecting a close one and the Rams to cover the 3.5 point spread.”

The finale of Championship Sunday will be held in the elements at Arrowhead stadium with the Patriots facing the Chiefs on the road. The model has some small leans in this one but given the varying weather reports, it’ll be best to check this one on game day. Wye is firm in his belief that we’ll see the Patriots in yet another Super Bowl, labelling the Patriots as the bet of the weekend despite some worrying road trends:

“The Patriots haven’t won a road playoff game since 2007, they’re 0-3 on those occasions with all three coming at the hands (or arm) of Peyton Manning. The Patriots do though, thrive as an underdog in recent years with a 7-1 straight up and against the spread record in their last eight games as a dog. The biggest storyline in this game will be the Patriots struggle on the road. They’ve lost 5 games non playoff teams and are averaging 12 fewer points per game on offense and allowing 6 more points on defense. The splits are quite phenomenal with Net Yards Per Play being 2nd at home and 26th away, Red Zone TD Scoring % is 6th at home & 26th away & opponents 3rd down conversion percentage is 3rd at home and 27th away. The Patriots defense ranks 2nd at home in DVOA defense and 31st on the road. So why the Patriots? Well Bill Belichick. He put on an absolute coaching clinic last week and should do the same here by slowing down Pat Mahomes. He is 6-2 all time against Andy Reid and found great success in their Week 7 matchup using 21 personnel. The Chiefs defense is the NFL’s worst defense against that formation and it’s the formation that gets the best out of Sony Michel on the ground and James White through the air.”

Wildcard Weekend saw the continuation of a golden run by underdogs in the playoffs (underdogs are now 14-1 against the spread since Atlanta choked/gave the Super Bowl away).

Three road teams won last week with Dallas being the only favourite to win outright. This is the second straight season where underdogs have gone 4-0 against the spread in the wild card round.

The Divisional round though presents a unique experience, in that half of the teams have had the bye, will get to play at home and typically against teams with a worse record. As bettors we have to be smart about what that means and how that will affect the outcome of these games.

Darryl Data & Wye open the show recapping a terrific week of results. Wye went 4-0 against the spread in his selections and correctly picked Clemson winning the National Championship game while the model celebrated the Under 48.5 in the Indianapolis/Houston game and Eagles +6.

Before going game by game with their picks and bets, the show mentions some key statistics about divisional weekend including:

· Home teams are 24-35-1 against the spread in the divisional round since 2003

· Away teams are 13-27 straight up in the last 40 Divisional Playoff Matchups.

In Stats Insider's inaugural BBL podcast - with a working title of "Episode 1" - host Hedge introduces the audience to Ritchie and Nick from SIHQ, who clearly, have been studying the form leading into Wednesday nights BBL Season Opener.

After a bit of education on who and what Stats Insider is and does, and how the revolutionary new cricket model works, it's time to get stuck into the juicy, meaty, goodness that is Big Bash cricket.

While touching on the Futures markets for each team, the focus is on the first two games of the season.

6.25 Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers

The Stats Insider model loves the Strikers, but with Travis Head on national duty with Australia, the lads look at how the Strikers look without their talismanic batsman. Colin Ingram, Matt Short and Jon Wells get a mention on the batting side, while last season's highest wicket-taker Rashid Khan and 'death bowler' Ben Laughlin also get a wrap up from the boys.

Unfortunately, Test hero Peter Siddle gets a knock from Hedge as someone who's greatest talent is "running in hard."

The Heat look appropriately priced when compared with Stats Insider's Simulations. So much hinges on the "Bash Brothers" opening partnership of Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum, but Hedge feels that Joe Burns at first or second drop could be invaluable to Brisbane's fortunes, and that Swepson looks to be value for Heat most wickets. Stats Insider's BBL data specialist, Ritchie, feels the young (but unknown) Afghani spinning gun, Mujeeb, might be a better wicket-taking option than Swepson.

Ritchie also identified a particular weakness in Chris Lynn's game, thinking the elite leggie, Rashid Khan, might be able to exploit Lynn in Game 1.

14.15 Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers

The lads feel this looks a little David vs Goliath with the powerhouse Scorchers coming East to face the recently rebuilt Melbourne Renegades. Ritchie gives us a sneak peek into some potential betting value on this game so keep an eye on the match pages prior to bat toss!

Hedge thinks the Scorchers' only issue might be their absolute quality bowling lineup... "Is there such a thing as having too many good bowlers?" Tye, Willey, Richardson, Coulter-Nile, Behrendorff and even skipper Mitch Marsh will all be used as strike bowlers at times, showing extreme depth in that pace department.

The team all feel the Renegades might be some value at the wooden spoon / most losses markets following the loss of some elite talent in Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Dwayne Bravo and James Pattinson, not sure what to expect from the likes of Cooper, Ludeman and Dan Christian, while the bowling of Nabi and Cameron Boyce will be leaned on heavily to get the 'Gades through their 20 overs, hopefully taking a few wickets too.

18.45 BBL Team Futures

Hedge and Nick lament the lack of talent at the Stars, while Ritchie talks through the differences between the (nearly) straight player swap of James Faulkner and Dan Christian and the impact they can have on their respective franchises. The Hurricanes are inconsistent but the talent has shown they can take Hobart all the way if they can put it all together. the Sixers will give opportunities to some young fellas who will get game time around the likes of Joe Denly, who may or may not be the first player to score a ton and take a hattrick in the same T20 game...

For the third straight week the Punt Return Podcast was missing one-third of the usual trio. While Woot was active this time, Darryl Data was inactive.

Before getting into their bets the boys talk very briefly about the first half of the 2018/19 NFL season. They outline their biggest surprises so far with the Rams finding another gear and Patrick Mahomes exploding immediately as an MVP candidate being their two biggest.

This weeks plays are headlined by the biggest man vs machine of the season. Both Woot and Wye are all over the New Orleans Saints -4.5 while the model is absolutely infatuated with the Cincinnati Bengals this week. The Bengals at the +5 line is a monstrous +11% edge right now, making it one of the best plays of the month. The guys really like the Saints chances against a Cincinnati team that has been porous on pass defense over the last few weeks and will be without super star wide receiver AJ Green on offense. The result of this match shall be hotly discussed when all hands are on deck in next week’s podcast.

Apart from the Bengals, the model’s best play is the Browns +4.5 with the model having the Browns losing by only a field goal.
