However, in order to grow deeper with God these things need to be addressed.
In this series we will look at what we can learn from particular characters in the bible. This week we are looking at Cain. We can learn from Cain about how we are to come to God in worship and sacrifice, how important it is to accept Gods convictions and how if we reject them, how the enemy is waiting to devour us.
In the final chapter of Nehemiah we see that after 10 years or so the people have slipped back into their old ways. Nehemiah arrives in Jerusalem, from returning to Babylon as promised in Chapter 1, and starts to bring reform back to the people. Many of the previous issues are at the forefront of this reform; Marriage, Giving and Sabbath rest.
This week we look at the people of Israel dedicating the walls. We explore the principles that took place; the heart of worship, purification of leaders, congregation and surroundings and giving onto the Lord.

Today we look at the importance and the power of repentance. A word we normally has a negative stance in the church today yet, it is the most powerful thing that we can do to get closer to God. We see how the Spirit of God leads to people to gather once again to hear the word but this time gives them the heart to repent and therefore an opportunity to draw closer to God.
This week we look at how the people respond to the conviction of the word of God being read. However, Ezra and Nehemiah direct the people to not remain in conviction but to see that God is doing something good and holy instead.
Here we look at important factors for revival and renewal of heart. We see how the people of Israel desire the word of God and how they attentively listen to it. As we complete chapter 6, we look at the importance in completing Gods work and standing firm on the truth, despite what others may think. The moment the word spreads that the wall is complete, the enemy and other nations become afraid and lose their self-confidence. They are all aware that God has helped the work. Then we see how Nehemiah stands firm against the pleas of the Judah's nobles to acknowledge Tobiah's 'good deeds'.
We begin Chapter 6 and focus on the importance of discernment in every situation we face. Nehemiah faces two circumstances in this chapter, one from the enemy and one from a prophet that required discernment from God.
The beginning of this sermon, we briefly look at discernment as a whole before addressing the text.
As we continue Chapter 5, we see how Nehemiah again deals with the situation. We see how Nehemiah challenges the people to stop and put right their wrong and we also see how Nehemiah leads by example. He uses his witness/actions to show the people what they should be doing. We also learn of Nehemiah's generosity to the people and how he never takes up his right as a governor to collect money or food for himself for the sake of the people.
This chapter looks at how threats can come from within Gods people. This week we look at the reasons why the people were crying out against each other and how this threat actually prevented the work on the wall more than the schemes of the enemy.
This week we explore how we can build defenses against the enemies schemes and the importance of calling out for help when we are being attacked. We see how the people worked as one unit/body to complete Gods work.
In this section, we look at the battle of the mind and body. The wall is half built and the people still have half remaining and getting tired. At very same time that the people are 'giving out', the enemy surfaces again with a physical threat. We learn how Nehemiah encourages the people, builds them up and changes their focus again on Gods work.
This morning we look at how the enemy comes with verbal taunts to discourage Gods workers. We also look at Nehemiah's response, which is to leave his enemy in Gods hands. We also look at the importance of continuing Gods work, as this should be our focus and not the enemies taunts of distraction
