DJ Maggie
DJ Maggie carefully curates the best of downtempo electronic into lush, playful and deeply replenishing sets that invite listeners on shimmering audio odysseys. Whether leading flights to the depth of the heart or the outer dimensions of the cosmos, Maggie pilots music masterfully as a multi-dimensional tool—for joy enhancement, energy boosting, community building, a safe space for retreat, a salve for helping heal pain, or a focus-enhancing medium to optimize creativity or productivity.
Evolving her own brand of intuitive sound at the legendary Southern California desert gatherings of the groundbreaking Moontribe Collective and other conscious parties and festivals, Maggie soon established a reputation for her heart-expanding sonic rides. This eventually propelled her into the path of her current collaborations with esteemed downtempo artist and producer, Bluetech (Evan Bartholomew) and their labels Behind the Sky and Over the Moon. Juggling a packed schedule of creative endeavors, DJ Maggie produces a weekly Twitch show, Flow, to a rapt and growing global audience of downtempo lovers. She also plays a monthly guest set on Holotropic Happy Hour, the audiovisual stream she co-produces on Bluetech’s Twitch channel. Her first compilation, a 2xLP entitled ‘Matters of the Heart,’ was released in June 2021 on Behind The Sky, and she began releasing through Over the Moon in October 2021.

This is a live recording of my opening set to celebrate my good friend Treavor Moontribe's 50th birthday. The evening took place at a Moroccan-themed restaurant in Hollywood, and Treavor played a 4-hour set after mine, so we were able to really dial in the flow. I've been collecting some tasty slow house music in the last few years without any real place to play them, and this set gave me a chance to flex that muscle a little, toward the end of the set. I had fun with it. Suti is a beautiful little festival held in rural Portugal in late summer. I attended their fourth edition in September 2023 and had the pleasure of following an artist I love to pieces - Zen Baboon. My set started at midnight after they'd been playing midtempo wiggly tunes, so I followed suit. As a result, this set is a tad more on the energetic side within the range of music I like to play, and I had a chance to explore some of the slow house tunes I've been collecting and listening to. This is a set I assembled for Sunday Sundowns, the weekly Twitch downtempo show put on by my fellow chillers, The Ambient Mafia, in November 2022. I was inspired to craft an hourlong set that would fit well in a chill room, and ended up with a tracklist from artists all around the world.

Astronox Festival in Texas, October 2022. A rare thing occurred - I got to play a two-hour closing set at the end of the insanely inspiring lineup of Saturday night, before a morning sound break. There are some major wiggles in this set, of the crunchy/glitchy variety, in keeping with the flow for the night. Ending with some gentle touches, like a sonic hug.

All good things must come to an end. After more than two years of co-producing a Twitch A/V show, Holotropic Happy Hour, we had the finale with hourlong sets from each of us four producers. This set debuted on Holotropic Happy Hour (streaming A/V show I co-produce on Bluetech's Twitch channel) in June 2022. A portion of it was recorded during a live stream last year, and the rest was curated for HHH. I call it "Smoovie" because all of the tunes feel like "smoov grooves" to me. There's a handful of contemporary tunes in this mix, along with some timeless classics from the era when I first discovered downtempo (mid 90s).

This is the first two hours of a live recording of my closing set at Moontribe Full Moon Gathering in April 2022. It was warm, but winds were sustained at 32mph with gusts even stronger, making DJing a serious challenge. Towards the end of my set, I had to keep one finger on my laptop since the wind was scooting it across the table towards me, leaving only my thumb to crossfade. Good times!

Just as I was preparing to host the broadcast, I learned of the passing of a dear friend, Matthew Parkey, gone too soon. The emotion of the music took on a different tone for me as I listened during the broadcast, tears falling, recalling our sweet friendship, and regarding the HUGE impact Matt had on the entire SoCal underground desert gathering community. His capacity for love and light touched so many souls. And so I heartily dedicate this mix to him - I will always love you, Matt.

This is a set I crafted in September 2021 for a virtual stage at BRCvr called The Oasis of Oontz. BRCvr was the AltSpaceVR world that was created by the BMOrg to provide Burners with a place to gather during the pandemic. This set originally aired on the day of the Burn.
Collectively, many of the DJs who participated that day decided to participate in a Twitch raid train in December 2021 to re-broadcast their sets outside of BRCvr. This was the opening set for that raid train.

Memories from another era...I was invited to play some tunes a few years ago by a dear friend who was having a Spa Day at her house for her birthday. This was the set I played to open Moontribe Sunday Vibe - Streaming Edition in May 2020. I'd just bought a bunch of new music, so many of the tracks were new to me and I had so much fun discovering how they mixed well with other favorite tracks of mine. I trimmed the end a little as I had intended to close with the CloZee track, but had to stretch a little to the full time of my set.
