If we were honest, the last couple of years have been pretty chaotic. Yet, what is fascinating about the Christmas story is that Jesus came into the chaos of kings and empires two thousand years ago, and He comes into our chaos today.

From The Walking Dead to the popular Christian book series Left Behind, people tend to be fascinated with the end of the world.
In this teaching we look at the apocalypse, the rapture, the book of Revelation and The End.
Are these things legit? Should we be scared, or is this actually a hopeful story?
There are three primary things that people worship in western culture: power, money and sex. This teaching looks at sex, what it is and how we are formed and shaped by what we do with our bodies.
In this teaching we look at three case studies from churches in the NT that were generous. We also look at the connection between generosity + simplicity.
In this teaching we hear form a panel of financial advisors about money and stewardship. We look at managing debt, saving for the future and working towards being generous people.

Is power good or bad? How are we supposed to use our power? How should church steward its power? Was Jesus political? Should Christians vote?

A lot of people are compelled to believe that prayer doesn't really matter. If God has everything fixed then what is going to happen is going to happen.

Dru Fess I Ephesians 6:10-20
In the final teaching of A New Humanity we look at spiritual warfare. What is often missed is that the scripture continually acknowledges that spiritual beings and “the powers” (spiritual forces) are at play in both the history of the world and something that is active in our current reality. In this teaching we break down what Paul says and look at the call to clothe ourselves in the armour of God.

In Ephesians 5 and 6 Paul switches his attention to how the gospel influences the home. The Greco-Roman world had a particular way in which households operated. Now Paul is sharing how relationships between husband and wife, parents and children, and master and servants work as the new humanity.

Paul calls those who follow Jesus to imitate God and walk in the way of love. In this teaching we walk through Ephesians 5, looking at how every community has limitations and how we are called in a new, upside down, counter-cultural way of living now that our allegiance is to Jesus.

In Ephesians 4 we see the call to live a life worthy. Ultimately this means both receiving and walking in God's call. In this teaching we look at how God has called us to put off our old selves and put on our new life in Christ.

Mike Erre (via video) I Ephesians 4:1
Ephesians 4:1 is the verse in which the whole letter of Ephesians turns. For three chapters Paul has been declaring who the church is in Christ and how God's work has brought Jew and Gentile together as one new humanity. Now Paul declares that we are to "live a life worthy of the calling we have received."

Dru Fess I Ephesians 3:14-21
At the end of Ephesians 3 Paul prays for his brothers and sisters in the church that he is writing. So often we look for mind-blowing things in the bible. The end of Ephesians 3 is simple. Paul prays that the church would experience God's power and love.

Dru Fess I Ephesians 3:1-13
In Ephesians 3:1-13 Paul uses the word mystery four times. Is the gospel, the kingdom and the work of God in the world a mystery? We talk about this and a number of things in own context that could be considered walls between us.
Dru Fess I Ephesians 2:11-22
The second half of Ephesians 2 shows us the cosmic scope of salvation. Yes, the work of Jesus brings us from death to life and prepares us for good works, but it also has a communal dimension.
In the first century there was deep tension between Jew and Gentile, and Paul makes it clear that the good news of Jesus breaks down the walls that divide Jew and Gentile, brings us in together as one new community, and that we are now the new temple in which the Spirit of God dwells.

The cornerstone verse from the Protestant Reformation is undoubtedly Ephesians 2:8, the reality that we are saved by grace through faith. But what is faith?
In this teaching we look at what the word faith meant in its original context. We talk about what faith is not and what a true understanding of this work means for us as the church.

In this text Paul is praying and interceding for the church. He prays that God would give the church the gift of wisdom?
Wait? We can be wise? Yep. And it's clear when God's wisdom works within us we begin to know a few things: the HOPE of the gospel, the wealth of God's INHERITANCE, and the greatness of God's POWER.

Dru Fess I Ephesians 1:3-14
Ephesians 1:3-14 in its original language is one sentence. Think about it... 202 words, but one sentence--the longest sentence in scripture. Paul is bursting at the seems with what the gospel means for us that he doesn't even take time to put in a period.
In this rich passage of scripture we pull out three major themes that Paul is trying to communicate--we are in Christ, we are adopted, we have been redeemed and we take time talk about what this means for us in our moment.

In this one off teaching we look at how Pentecost empowered Peter and the disciples to be explainers of the wonders of God and how this propelled Paul to go into cities and cultures throughout Acts that had a particular narrative and bring the good news of Jesus as a counter-narrative/counter-interpretation to the dominant worldview.

In Episode 5 of The Fasting Series we look at how fasting is a practice that enables us to stand in solidarity with the poor.
In Isiah 58 the prophet Isaiah calls Israel to the kind of fasting that God chooses: to loose the chains of injustice, untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, break every yoke, to share your food with the hungry, to provide the poor wanderer with shelter, and to clothe the naked.

Bread has always been central to the people of God. From Passover, to the Last Supper before Jesus went to the cross, to the Lord's Supper in the early church, meals have always been important in the lives of those who follow Jesus. It seems in our cultural moment that the pre-Christendom practice of a meal as the communal worship gathering is an important practice for our post-Christian world.
In week 6 of Discover Praxis we look at our core value of The Table. We look at how we feel called as a community to come to the bread and cup every Sunday, to eat meals in Praxis Communities and to eat meals with people who are far from God.

It is very easy in the West to slip into a way of thinking that is closer to Greek philosophy than biblical theology. One of the areas that we get caught in is thinking our bodies don't matter in worship. It was Plato who thought the body is a prison house to the soul. In other words, the soul is good and the body is bad or carnal.
But is this true? Is this how we should think as people who practice the way of Jesus?

There can be a lot of misunderstanding around fasting. Phillis Tickle says, “fasting is far and away the most misunderstood, maligned, and misused” spiritual discipline.
In episode 1 of The Fasting Series we look at what fasting is, the common misconception that fasting is abstaining from anything, and a short history of how both Israel and the early Christians practiced fasting.

So many of us want to change and be transformed. The problem is that we often think this transformation will come through a zap from heaven or getting more information in our heads. The reality is that Jesus gives a way to be transformed that is cultivated through practice and formation, and at the heart of it formation takes time.

In the end God through Jesus, by the Spirit, offers us life WITH him.
