Making Singleness Work
Know that it's ok if you are single v.8
Know that troubles are minimized if you are single v.25-28
Know that your devotion isn't divided if you are single v.32-35
Why we don’t have to be troubled…
1. Because the Lord is trustworthy v.1
2. Because this life is temporary v.2-6
2 Corinthians 4:16-18, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
3. Because of the totality of the relationship v.7-11
4. Because the Lord is trustworthy v.12-14
To be spiritually clean I must…
1. Initially be forgiven of sin and saved which brings about a union with Christ
Isaiah 64:6, “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”
2. Continually confess sin in order to maintain communion with Christ
1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Psalm 32:5, “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.”
Jesus' final words tell us that…
1. He and God are inseparable v.44-45
2. He wants to shine truth into the darkness v.46
3. He came to save us from the darkness of sin v.47
4. He gives us the option to accept him and his word v.48-50
The triumphal entry brings a…
Confrontation of understanding v.12-15
Confrontation of values v.23-26
Confrontation of timing v.27-36
Confrontation of belief v.42-43
I identify with…

3. Miracles do not change providence
4. Miracles do not change religion
03.05.23 Lord, Liar or Lunatic - John 11:17-27
Let us be in 23Let us be ReadyMatthew 24:44Sunday, 2/19/23
Acts 1:11, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come back in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”1. Let us be ready so you won’t be left behind2 Peter 3:3,8 “Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation. But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.”2. Let us be ready because of the signs2 Timothy 3:1, “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.”Daniel 12:4, “But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. For many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”3. Let us be ready by…Coming to know Christ as saviorContinuing to grow in Christ as savior
Let us be TrustingMatthew 6:25-34Sunday, 2/12/23
How not to worry: Settle your heart on what Jesus says is true
So what does Jesus tell us about not worrying…1. Know that God the Father cares for youPsalm 86:15, “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety onto God because he cares for you.”2. Know that worrying doesn’t change anythingPsalm 131:1-2, “I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore.”3. Know that God is sovereign over my circumstancesIsaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”4. Know that if I focus on God, God will handle the rest
My giving is important because…1. It is an act that honors the LordLeviticus 27:30-32, “Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the LORD’s; it is holy to the LORD. And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman’s staff, shall be holy to the LORD.”2. It provides the needs of the church3. It gives me ground to stand on when I pray
Let us be the church
Acts 2:42-47
Sunday, 1/29/23
Marks of being the church…
1. Continual commitment
2. Compelling teaching
3. Close community
Romans 1:11, “For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.”
4. Compassionate serving
Romans 12:4-6, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them.”
5. Corporate worship
6. Contagious witnessing
7. Changed perception
Let us be in 23Let us be respondingMatthew 7:24-27Sunday, 1/22/23

Let us be turning
Hosea 6:1-3
Sunday, 1/8/23
When I’m feeling dry and disconnected…
1. I need to accept the invitation to turn to the Lord
2. I need to actively and consistently turn to the Lord
Psalm 1:1-3, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.”

The Good Shepherd pt. 2John 10:11-21Sunday, 12/4/22
As the good shepherd…1. Jesus voluntarily sacrifices his life for the sheep v.11Isaiah 53:5-7, “He was pierced for our rebellions, he was crushed for our sins; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the sins of us all.”2. Jesus doesn’t abandon the sheep v.12-133. Jesus enters into a relationship with the sheep v.14-15Psalm 23:1-4, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”Hebrews 13:5-6, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. Liar Liar Pants on Fire pt.1 John 8:39-47 Sunday, 10/16/22
Satan lies to get us to… 1. Believe our lineage and not Jesus v.39-40 2. Live for self rather than honor God v.41-44 1 Corinthians 2:14, “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned.” James 2:14, “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? God’s Action, Our Application John 6:32-59 Sunday, 8/21/22
God’s Action…
Hebrews 12:22-24, “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant.” 3. The procurement Isaiah 49:15, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved your name on the palms of my hands.” 4. The prompting
Our application… 1. We have to come 2. We have to look 3. We have to believe 4. We have to receive
The Casual Crowd John 6:22-35 Sunday, 8/14/22
Ecclesiastes 12:9-11, “Not only was the Preacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. Weighing and studying and arranging many proverbs with great care. The Preacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true. The words of the wise are like goads and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings: they are given by one Shepherd.” 1. The crowd seeks Jesus for what he can give them v.25-26 2. The crowd satisfies their physical appetite more than their spiritual need v.27 3. The crowd supposes they can contribute to their salvation v.28-29 4. The crowd selfishly wants Jesus to prove himself v.30-35
In the Storm John 6:16-21 8/7/22
Matthew 14:24, “The boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.” Mark 6:48, “They were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them.” 1. Mark 6:47, “And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. When in the storm trust in Jesus’ nature v.19-20 Matthew 14:28-30, “And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. When we lose perpective:
2 Chronicles 20:29 – “And the fear of God came on all the kingdoms of the countries when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel.”
In order to keep proper perspective:
Magnify the Lord!
Isaiah 66:1-2 “Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declare the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.”

Psalm 34 “I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord, let the humble hear and be glad, O Magnify the Lord with me let us exalt his name together!”
Facing Overwhelming Odds John 6:1-14 Sunday, 7/17/22
When facing overwhelming odds… 1. Know that there is a tension between my faith and Jesus’ sovereignty v.1-6 2. Know that you need only a little faith to get Jesus’ attention v. 7-10 Hebrews 11:6, “It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him.” The Message Bible 3. Know that you need to continue to be thankful v.10–11 4. Know that Jesus can work a miracle in overwhelming situations v.11-12 5. Know that Jesus works differently in every situation v.13 6. Know that everything Jesus does is to change our perspective v.14
John 5:30-47 Sunday, 7/10/22
What keeps people from Jesus… 1. Desiring to do what I want v.30 2. Growing tired of hearing people witness v.31-35 3. Not accepting the valid work of Jesus v.36 4. Being religious which is worthless v.37-40 Galatians 1:13-14, “For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.” Philippians 3:4, “If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.” Philippians 3:7, “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ.” 5. Trusting the word of man over the word of God v.41-47
Shock & Awe: The Claims of Christ John 5:17-29 Sunday, 7/3/22
Spiritually Disabled pt.3 John 5:9-17 Sunday, 6/26/22
Put both of these verses on the same slide if you can Galatians 6:7-8, “Do not be deceived, God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction.” Proverbs 14:14, “The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways.” 2. Knowing not everything bad that happens to me is because of sin John 9:1-3, “As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” 3. Knowing Jesus comes to me despite my sin but desires for me not to sin
Spiritually Disabled pt.2 John 5:9-17 Sunday, 6/19/22
How to know what to do: 1. Ask if it’s a biblical mandate, if it is, obey what it says. 2. Ask if it’s biblical counsel, if it is, then it’s wise to do what it says 3. Ask if it’s a man-made regulation, if it is, you are free to ignore it. Colossians 2:16, “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”
Spiritually Disabled pt. 1 John 5:1-9 Sunday, 6/12/22
Questions and Answers in a time of suffering? Various Scriptures Sunday, 5/29/22
Romans 1:28-32, “And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, and malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” Genesis 3:17, God said to Adam “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it, cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you” Romans 8:20-22, “All of creation was subjected to God’s curse, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.” So what do we do for now… 1. Everyday entrust all you have and all you are into the hands of God Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Psalm 121:1, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” 2. Everyday remember this is not my permanent home Revelation 21:1-4, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. For the first heaven and earth had passed away. Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new!”

It assures our faith and salvation. 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.” 3. It’s an anchor for my faith and hope 1 Peter 1:21, “Through Christ you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.”

For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” 2. Do you see Jesus as the greatest v.30-31 3. Do you see Jesus as the one who gives the spirit to empower and assure us v.32-33 Ephesians 1:13, In Christ you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it.” 4. Do you see Jesus was sent initiated by God v.34
Pointing Others to Jesus John 1:19-28 Sunday, 2/20/22
To point others to Jesus…. 1. Accept your calling to be a witness v.1 Luke 1:17, “He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Luke 3:3, “The word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
