Attract Greater Abundance into Your Life and Business: Debbie Sassen, Money Mentor and Coach for Jewish Women in Conversation with Dr. Azi. Episode 89. Part One of Two with Debbie and Azi.

In this episode of Inspired by Purpose Podcast, Dr. Azi and Debbie dive into creating abundance in your business, as well as starting and growing a business with the greatest return on investment that supports work life harmony and your feeling inspired.Debbie Sassen is. a business and money coach for Jewish entrepreneurs, helping them create consistent 5k-20k months in group coaching and 1:1 programs.

Connect with Debbie: www.debbiesassen.com

Debbie Sassen is a Business and Money Mindset Coach and former Financial Planner.

She helps entrepreneurs create consistent $5k-20K months and build wealth, in alignment with authentic Jewish values. Because money is so intimately involved with everything we do in business, Debbie believes that clearing your money blocks makes everything else easier.

Her coaching combines business strategy, money management and mindset to help entrepreneurs dissolve the limiting beliefs that keep them stuck in a cycle of under-selling, under-earning, and under-investing.

Unfortunately, too many women - and men - never learned how to understand money, earn abundantly, and manage their finances to build wealth.

Debbie believes it's time we changed that narrative! None of us should have to dim our lights and brilliance to build a solid financial reality for ourselves and our families - now and in the future! When we own our wealth and take responsibility for it, we give other people permission to shine their brilliance brightly, too.

Today's guests on the podcast are none other than Dr. Edith Eva Eger - "Dr. Edie" - and her grandson Jordan Engle.

Dr. Azi speaks with them about the courses that they've recently produced together: Unlocking Your Potential, and Forgiveness: A Gift You Give to Yourself.

They also speak about Dr. Eger's NYT bestselling books, "The Choice," and "The Gift," as well as her work as a pioneer in the field of trauma healing, and her personal experiences in the Holocaust as a prisoner of Auschwitz.

Dr. Eger shares the wisdom of her life and work, which is not to be missed by anyone.

As Oprah has said, "I will be forever changed by Dr. Eger's work," and here at Inspired by Purpose, we believe that Dr. Eger's work can inspire, impact, and help anyone and everyone to heal and unlock their potential.

Episode Highlights:

Intro 00-2:50

About Dr. Eger’s Life 3:00-11:30

About Jordan Engle 11:40 - 14:00

Interview with Dr. Eger and Jordan 14:00 - 1:08

1:08: Reflections on the Episode with your host Dr. Azi, how Dr. Eger’s work and most recently the courses have impacted her personally, and a special message for you on how to unlock your impact and live inspired by purpose.

Personal Takeaways from the Episode and Dr. Eger's work: On Leadership, Courage, Mental Health, and More - with your Host, Dr. Azi Jankovic

About our Guests:

"Dr. Edith Eger is a sought-after clinical psychologist and lecturer, helping individuals discard their limitations, discover their powers of self-renewal, and achieve things they previously thought unattainable. Using her own past as a Holocaust survivor and thriver as a powerful analogy, she inspires people to tap their fullpotential and shape their very best destinies. It's a message of healing and personal growth. A message of freedom from selfimposed limitations. A message of CHOICE to move from recovery to discovery and beyond."

Jordan Engle "Jordan Engle is a storyteller. His passion for finding powerful stories and helping to bring them to life is his soul's work. In his 20's as an actor and screenwriter Jordan spent 10 years in Los Angeles learning the craft of filmmaking and storytelling. From there his passion for still photography led him into a career taking portraits of actors and professionals. From being Google's preferred headshot photographer to creating portraits of Kevin Hart, Jordan's passion for photography has been a steady source of inspiration. In addition to photography, for the last 5 years Jordan has immersed himself into the Edie-verse as he calls it. As the grandson of Dr. Edith Eger, Jordan has used his storytelling and content creating to support Edie's rise to fame and success as a transformational figure and author. Together Jordan and Edie have recently created two breakthrough online courses, "Unlocking Your Potential" and "Forgiveness : A gift I give myself," both offered through Jordan's company, Soul Search. Next Jordan is co-authoring with Edie her third book, which will be focused on the young adult audience, where Edie takes readers through her youth, and tells her story of her holocaust survival in order to show young readers the lessons they can use in their own life. Jordan has also created the Edith Eger Foundation which will be helping to educate the youth about Edie's story and wisdom."

Today's guest is Dr. Ellen Vora, and we're diving in to why mental health is actually so much more than mental, as well as how you can live and work with greater wellbeing.

Dr. Vora takes a functional medicine approach to mental health, considering the whole person and addressing the problem at the root, rather than reflexively prescribing medication to suppress symptoms.

She takes the whole person into consideration, focusing on everything from physical health, sleep, nutrition, digestion, thought patterns, relationships and community, to our connection with nature, creativity, and purpose.

Dr. Vora attended Columbia University for medical school and received her B.A. in English from Yale University. She’s a board-certified psychiatrist, acupuncturist and yoga teacher.

And you can buy her best-selling book, The Anatomy of Anxiety, using this link: https://ellenvora.com/book/

My own journey being diagnoses with depression over 25 years ago, I’ve learned first hand how important Dr. Vora’s approach is. In recent years, following her and especially after reading her book, The Anatomy of Anxiety, it has guided me to be able to get the help that I need.

What's the difference between these two types of Givers?

In this episode, we'll take a look at exactly that + how you can implement a few specific strategies to make your biggest impact and be most generous in life and business without burning out.

Today we’re exploring the power of self compassion.

Our mini-episode includes a short introduction to the concept + a self-compassion guided meditation with Dr. Azi.

Self compassion practices are based on a strong body of research.

I have experienced the transformational power of self compassion in my own life and in the lives of the people that I serve.

___________________________________________________________________

By way of research, Dr. Kristen Neff, researcher and professor who popularized self compassion in recent years writes:

“Self-compassionate people have more intrinsic motivation in life — trying hard because they want to learn and grow, not because they need to impress themselves or others."

Kicking bad habits is never easy-- Laurie Lewis knows exactly this feeling from when she kicked sugar almost 20 years ago. Growing up, Laurie maintained a very midwestern American diet, totally opposite to her new palette for bitter greens.

With her life now as an intermittent fasting coach, she’s always been a big advocate for the diet since it helped her through her own time with menopause. Since then, she’s been spreading the word to help women going through the same thing, hopefully providing the solution for them to overcome the weight, emotional, and mental issues that come with this giant hormonal shift in our bodies.

When COVID hit this past Spring, my dormant anxiety and insomnia woke up - full force. After a few nights of medication-induced deep sleep and days filled with unwanted withdrawal symptoms, I began to wonder if there was a better way.

What I discovered is a complete and total miracle. I would call it a drug, but as today's guest - Dr. Alan Flashman, MD, (Pediatrician and Psychiatrist) explains, it isn't actually a 'drug' at all.

Cannabis. Something that I never would have considered in a responsible treatment protocol has become a staple in my daily self care routine, and I've never felt mentally, emotionally, or physically better in my life.

As Dr. Flashman explains, I am not alone. Cannabis is being used in the successful treatment of PTSD, with anxiety symptoms, for Autism-associated behaviours in children, and other critical capacities.

He shares an overview of Cannabis from a scientific perspective, why it has been illegal and controversial for so long, and what a responsible and compassionate treatment plan can look like that includes Cannabis.

In this episode, Elisheva Hudson speaks about the power of story telling, and how you can share your story with the world in a way that resonates.

Elisheva studied filmmaking in university, and over the past several years, has found a way to utilize her creative passions and abilities to tell the stories of other creative entrepreneurs. She shares about the value of story telling, and how one of the best things that a brand can do to connect with its audience is to TELL THE STORY of the people behind the brand.

You'll also hear about Elisheva's journey into entrepreneurship, as well as how I (Azi) first met Elisheva. Elisheva took part in my 12-Week program early on in 2020. A lot of my students and clients share their fears and anxieties with me around shifting out of being an employee and into being an entrepreneur. We hear the word ‘insight’ in the world of meditation, mindfulness, personal growth, and spirituality. But, what is it, and how can we utilize its power in our lives?

There are deep explanations in Kabbalah of what ‘insight’ is, how we access it, and what it can help us with, and that’s what today’s convo is all about.

Here’s a rundown of the Episode:

In the first eleven minutes, you’ll hear the inspiration for this episode, and a brief overview of what we’re delving in to. You’ll hear about the new addition to Azi’s family (surprise!) AND a bit about her new masterminding program for women. (Female entrepreneurs or up-and-coming entrepreneurs - this is for YOU!)

Next, you’ll meet “The Millennial Rabbi,” aka Rabbi Daniel Bortz, who shares a unique perspective on what insight is, and how we can experience a flash of understanding as well as how we can incorporate it into our lives to live inspired.

Interestingly, the Torah teaches that women were the last living being created - according to the creation story. As such, women are literally the ‘crown of the creation,’ and it is taught that women have an extra measure of Insight.

Millennial Rabbi shares his personal spiritual awakening story, and we delve into several other avenues of how to access insight and spiritual connectedness in all that we do.

You can connect with Millennial Rabbi on Instagram at http://instagram.com/millennialrabbi

She highlights the power of a woman, and explains that “If you inspire a woman, you’re changing the world,” because women are so incredibly influential in their homes and communities.

She speaks about the role of a parent as being a teacher - not a ‘homeschool’ teacher, per se, but a role model of the values that really matter for our children’s lives.

She addresses the messy parts of life and explains that she, just like everyone else, has faced serious challenges. Lori’s shares her personal philosophy about making mistakes and dealing with challenges, and explains how we can take on a new perspective, becoming the ‘framers’ of our lives in order to make the most of whatever comes our way.

Ask yourself: what do you want your picture of health to look like?

With all that's happening in the world around us, its easy to let self-care practices fall by the wayside.

In this episode with board certified Integrative Health Coach Nomi Levy, you'll learn why self care is the foundation of establishing and maintaining lifelong health.

Nomi explains the importance of being an active partner in your healing process - whether you're looking to get in shape or upgrade your overall health, your success will be based on how actively involved and 'on board' you are with the plan.

She explains that a diet is comprised of more than food - what we eat and our daily habits for mind and spirit are all inter-related components in our long term health and wellness.

She advocates for making food choices that will feed the brain and body, and that are also delicious and enjoyable to eat.

You'll hear about:

  • how to enjoy meal times by focusing on more than just the food you'r eating

  • how to get creative and be flexible with food choices while you're trying to adhere to your health plans

-how the act of re-engaging with that plan over time will create consistency and the results that you're seeking - for life.

-the importance of lowering stress in regulating the body's natural ability to function and the brain's ability to be calm and creative

And you'll also hear Azi's 'wellness journey' story of implementing some of the mindset shifts that she learned from Nomi over the past two years, as well as how making some basic and very enjoyable upgrades with food have been beneficial for her mind, body, and spirit.

There is so much happening in the world right now. In today's episode I touch briefly upon some of the current events, and then we shift into an episode that was originally recorded in early May.

How can we move forward together, and how can we build bridges of peace?

Today's interview is a respite from the noise, and an opportunity to reflect and connect more deeply with what is timeless. Today's episode is about the eternal soul.

My guest is Rabbi Elie Kaplan Spitz, author of "Does the Soul Survive: A Jewish Journey to Belief in Afterlife, Past Lives & Living with Purpose," as well as "Healing from Despair: Choosing Wholeness in a Broken World," and "Increasing Wholeness: Jewish Wisdom & Guided Meditations to Strengthen & Calm Body, Heart, Mind & Spirit."

He served as a member of the Rabbinical Assembly Committee of Law and Standards (1994-2004; 2008-2016) and as a Global Justice Fellow for the American Jewish World Service (2016-2017). A graduate of The Jewish Theological Seminary and Boston University School of Law, Rabbi Spitz is the author of three books and many articles dealing with spirituality and Jewish law. He has taught the philosophy of Jewish law at the American Jewish University and taught at the Wilkinson College, Religious Studies Department at Chapman University. (from www.Cbi18.org)

Your outpouring of support, encouragement, and connection have been more than I ever could have anticipated.

It is confirming for me, above anything else, that these topics are important to speak about, and that together, we CAN make a meaningful difference.

The moment I shared on the YSIG Podcast was a focus on one particular mental health episode in 2012 where I wound up inside of a psychiatric institution, committed against my will.

It was not pretty.

It could have been done better - from so many different angles...

This matters because the mistakes of the past can be the lessons of today, if we are willing to learn them and share them.

If only I had known more in 2012 - if only there had been better resources - things would have been different. But we were dealing with what we knew, and what we had.

We need to continue learning and trying to do better in the field of mental health.

I foresee a future where there is accessible, compassionate healthcare for mental illness.

Right now, too many are suffering in silence - and the price that is being paid is WAY. TOO. HIGH.

This is why I share.

Last week when I shared the YSIG episode, I posted a pic of myself on social media (pictured on this album cover) that was taken 3 days before I was handcuffed by the police and committed against my will, and I wrote:

Do I look 'crazy' to you?

I didn't think so.

And that's why I share - we NEVER know what battles are happening beneath the surface.

I believe that YOU are MUCH more than any diagnosis. I believe it is HIGH time to end the stigma and to create more compassionate models of care for those who struggle with mental illness.

iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, tablets, smartphones, gaming, and televisions. Screens are built in to our cars and strapped to our wrists. They can bring so much utility and connection into our lives, but is there a cost for being so 'plugged in' all the time?

Our guest today, Kim Cavallo, digital wellness expert, asks us the following question:

“What is it that inspires you to forget about your phone and your screens?”

Kim is a proponent of Digital Wellness. She first became aware of the problem that mobile devices presented when she found herself in the bathroom of a yoga studio reading her emails instead of pressing her hands in down dog. In between anxious impulses to check her phone, the idea for a new app was born.

With her 25 years experience raising money and connecting people to non-profit causes, Kim began to focus on how to encourage those around her to put away their phones and be in the moment.

Kim’s work is positioned at the center of mindfulness and social impact, developing mutually beneficial, strategic partnerships between businesses and non-profit organizations. When Kim puts away her phone, she loves to spend time with her husband + 2 adult sons, doing yoga and traveling.

Torah, also known as 'The Five Books of Moses' and its related writings, or 'The Old Testament,' is the best selling book of all time and one of the most influential documents in human history. The original Hebrew texts are largely studied in Jewish circles.

There are a small number of individuals from within the Jewish tradition who are inspired about sharing sacred Torah teachings with the world at large. Which one is a bigger miracle?

Holding a 1,000 pound rock over your head for a minute, or holding that same rock over your head for a thousand years?

It is easy to walk through life without noticing the miracle that we are living in - the miracle that we are - each one of us.

However, in noticing the miracles, we will come to experience more of them. And sometimes, they are pretty mind-boggling.

This episode features a story from Azi's new book, 'Beyond All Things: Insights to Awaken Joy, Purpose, and Spiritual Connection,' about a miracle that happened to her in 2003 while she was on a quest for answers in the holy city of Jerusalem.

An unlikely answer came in a very unlikely way... and in doing so, opened her eyes to what miracles are and how to experience more of them.

Enjoy this episode, and feel free to send in your very own miracle story by way of voice message on anchor.fm/drazriela or by visiting azrielajankovic.com and sending in a personal note.

*Please note if you're good with your miracle story being shared on the show, and if so, would you like it shared anonymously or with your details.

A quick overview on the concept of masterminding - creating a space to share knowledge. We are surrounded by people who know things that we do not. In business, relationships, and in personal growth, strategically sharing knowledge can enhance our experiences. On the flip side, it’s easy to forget what we know, or even to ‘sit’ on our knowledge. This format of learning/ collaboration is a method for contributing and giving back.

In this talk, Azriela reflects on the concept from King Solomon that “Gentle words of the wise are heard but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

She shares two challenges that were brought to her for consultation - the first from a teacher struggling to manage and control a classroom, and the second from a parent challenged by two very common parenting issues with children of all ages.

Azriela explains the idea of 'positive discipline,' and how in maintaining one's own sense of presence and calm, we can lead more powerfully in any context. She draws upon her research of relational management, grounded in positive psychology, to help both the teacher and the parent shift a focus on the positive, re-conceptualize, and re-create the situations.

Learn how to stay calm in a moment of stress by shifting focus, and learn how to influence the behavior of others by shifting your focus and energy.
