One of the most important lessons that being in relationships can teach us is how to serve another, how to love. It can, or should, remove us from self-centeredness and become more others focused. In a way it can move us to become more “Christlike”.
“For the son of man did not come to be served but to serve.” (Matthew 26:28)
Listen to this podcast as I discuss in more detail the idea of grace in marriage and how all of this plays in raising kids and affects their future relationships.
In this episode we discuss the idea that the devil does still prowl around and to not be aware of this only makes it much easier for us to lose the "battle".
Men....Do you realize the battle you are in? Do you have a peace mixed with passion? Does your heart stir in good ways? Do you feel connected to God? Do you feel connected to your spouse? Do you joke, laugh, and have true innocent fun?
Too often our soul and heart is captive.
How we give and receive love will determine the quality of our life and the relationships in it. . . . . Do you agree?
**First episode back in awhile so please forgive any non-audio "smoothness" and/or transitions :)
Are you guilty of the Sin of Self-Protection? For my whole life I was unaware that I was and often am still guilty of this sin in my relationships. "If the core business of life is to love each other as God loves us, then a priority effort to play it safe interferes with the purpose of loving. We were designed to love, and when we do, something good develops inside. We feel clean, rich, whole. Even better, we become less concerned with how we feel and more concerned with the lives of others. But when a commitment to self-protection governs what we say, how we say it, and to whom then a nagging discomfort creeps through our soul that demands to be soothed." (Inside Out-Larry Crabb)
In this episode we discuss this challenging statement. . ."Until we acknowledge painful disappointment in our circumstances and relationships (particularly the latter), we will not pursue Christ with the passion of deep thirst. Or, to put it more simply, we rarely learn to meaningfully depend on God when our life is uncomfortable." (Inside Out - Larry Crabb)
To avoid not feeling what needs to be felt, the pain, the ache, the heartache, the sin, we deprive ourselves of our desperate need for the gospel of Christ, which provides amazing hope, forgiveness, and a love that is unfathomable. Instead of "running to" things of this world to "numb out" pain there is a better place to run to and that is in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
In this episode we discuss the idea of our pursuit to relieve pain in our life and how "feeling better" has become more important than finding God.
In this episode we continue our conversation about looking in to God's Eyes, hand in HIS. "Do not fear (anything), for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you; I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand (a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation)." (Isaiah 41:10) . . . . . I want that hand to hold mine, don't you?
INTO HIS EYES, hand in HIS. . . . . . I think a person has come to a great place in their life when they become less focused on themselves and more focused on God. They want to look into HIS EYES daily and journey through the ups and downs of life, the days, with their hand in HIS. So much of life is spent in the "valleys". God sit's with us in those times. It seems life is more "valleys" than "peaks". That is ok. It is life. What matters is in life, whether we are in the "valley", climbing to some "peak", or at the "top" we have our hand in HIS, we focus on HIM, and move through our days, our journey, with a gratitude, a peace, a confidence, a love that makes us able to serve and love others and love ourselves. It is a place that no matter what life may bring, what may happen in your day, you will be ok because God is with you and God is good. He becomes your daily guide. He becomes your "walking" partner each and every day. He becomes the one most desired to be with in the morning, at night, and throughout the day. You begin to desire more of Him than you do things of this world. You begin to like much more of who you are with Him than who you are without and because of that you focus less on you and begin to focus on Him. It can sometimes be hard to see God when we are focused on ourselves. So, let's focus on Him, take hold of our Savior's Hand and live each day with the ONE who loves us with a love we cannot even comprehend.
