Around God’s throne all manner of creatures repeat a chorus of the holiness of God without end. But what does it mean when we say that God is holy? Is it just some sort of “churchy” word that we use, or does it have some deeper significance? The holiness of God is not something that we are supposed to just gloss over. The truth that God is holy has significant impact on our lives. So what does it look like to live a life that reflects the holy nature of our never-changing God? In a day and age where it seems like you can’t be sure about much of anything, you can always be sure that things will change. With this Tuesday being election day, that fact is more at the front of our minds than ever. So in such a turbulent world full of change, what can you really rely on?Scripture makes it clear that while everything else changes, our God never does. God is always who He is. What are the implications for our lives of an unchanging God? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a conversation on the nature of God and how His constancy provides peace in the midst of any storm.

Divorce. It’s not something we talk about often in church. And yet, studies show that almost everyone has been impacted by divorce in some way. Maybe you have been through a divorce. Maybe you know someone who has. Maybe they were even super close to you and that divorce caused a lasting impact on your life. Regardless of to what level it has affected you, divorce is constantly around us and the statistics aren’t getting any better on it. So what do we do? Ignore the topic and hope it goes away? Or face it head on and learn what Scripture has to say about it?The truth is that no matter what your experience with or around divorce may be, there is hope and a future for those who are in Christ. Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a discussion on divorce, what the Bible has to say on this topic, and how to guard our marriages against the attacks of the enemy.

Husbands, we examined your role closely last week, so this week on The Other Six Podcast it is all about Mrs Right! The role of the wife in marriage can be confusing or misunderstood. We hear words like “submit” and “leadership” in the marriage relationship, but what does that mean? Does the husband have carte blanche to make his wife do whatever he wants? What does it mean for a wife to follow her husband’s leadership? What about when he is not leading well, what is a wife to do then? These questions aren’t just an intellectual or theological exercise, they have real life implications for our lives and marriage relationships. So what does the Bible have to say?The good news is that Scripture is clear on these topics. Join Pastors Jim and Chad with special guest, Lindsay Layton, for a conversation on Mrs Right and her role in marriage as our “Oops! Did I Marry the Wrong Person?” series continues.

Marriage. When we think of the word, most of us think of white dresses, cake, and wedding bells. We think of happily ever afters, romantic comedies, and undying passion. But is that what marriage really is? What happens when the shine of the wedding day fades and we are left with the reality of two people trying to live together and start a family, all the while dealing with incompatibilities and the difficulties of life? What do you do when you feel like maybe, just maybe, your marriage is heading in the wrong direction? The truth is that everyone who has ever been married throughout history has been there. Marriage is tough. The good news is that God’s Word has a lot to say about our marriages and how we can thrive in them. Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a discussion on marriage as we kick off a new message series designed to help us see our marriages through the lens of God’s design and find true purpose in joy in our relationship with our spouse.

Welcome to the 100th episode of the Other Six Podcast! Thank you to everyone who has tuned in along the way to make this incredible milestone possible. Here is a question: have you ever had a bad habit in your life that you have tried to break? Most of us have. Maybe it was to stop drinking too much caffeine. Maybe you weren’t going to bed on time and always woke up tired in the morning. Or maybe it was something even more difficult. Bad habits can be tough to get rid of, but what about developing good habits in your life? That can often be just as challenging. Perhaps you are tying to get into a good exercise and diet routine, or maybe you are trying to find more time to spend with your family each day. Whatever it is, good habits take time to develop. What about the habit of reading God’s Word? Many of us want to spend time with the Lord each day, but so much of the time our Bible reading is the first thing to go when life gets busy. So how do we develop the good habit of engaging with Scripture on a daily basis? Join pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a conversation on understanding the Bible and some practical ways to implement the habitual reading of God’s Word into our lives every day.

It’s hard to know who to trust these days. Between A.I., fake news, scammers, and a lack of credible sources of information, it can honestly be incredibly easy to fall into a pattern of skepticism in our lives. And while a healthy dose of being skeptical is good (Anyone want to buy a bridge? I am selling one!) it can lead to bitterness and an overflow of negativity in our lives. In our culture, the Bible is often the subject of high doses of skepticism. It’s a book that claims to be the inspired Word of God to humanity…that’s a big claim! And yet, there are big facts backing up that claim. So if the Bible is God’s message to us, then what does that mean for our lives? What are we expected to know about God’s Word and do with God’s Word? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a discussion on being skeptical in our culture today, the authority of the Bible in our lives, and the overall message of this amazing collection of books known as the Bible.

When you think about it, the entirety of what Christians believe is based on what is written in the Bible. It’s our ultimate authority, our ultimate truth, and our ultimate message from the Lord. Whenever we gage if something is trustworthy or not, it’s Scripture that we appeal to in order to determine if something is from God or not. But is it trustworthy? Do the copies of the Bible that we read today remain true to what was originally written? How can we even know the answer to that question? If the Bible is a collection of books written over 1500 years by so many different authors that we don’t even have the original copies of, how can we truly trust it? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a conversation on the reliability of the Bible, how we can have faith that it is truly the Word of God, and the overwhelming evidence of the miracle of Scripture.

As we begin our journey into the Bible, the first question that we must stop and ask is “how can we know that this is the Word of God?” It’s a great question. To say that God speaks to us and does so through this book known as the Bible is a pretty audacious claim, so is it true? As Christians, we say we believe every word of Scripture is given to us by God, but what does that really mean? And how did it happen? Was there a heavenly tape recorder or did God just tell the authors of Scripture to “jot this down real quick”? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a discussion on divine inspiration in the writing of God’s message to all of mankind in the form of the Bible.

For the past six weeks, we have been on a journey together of looking at how we are to interact with one another in God’s family. We have talked about loving one another, honoring one another, praying for one another, and more. These “one another” actions are the things in God’s family that we are expected to do, the way we invest in one another. But what about the things we are not supposed to do? Think about your own family. Your family probably has rules and expectations, and some of those include negative actions that you are not to do. In the same way, in God’s family, there are things we are not to do in order to protect the family of God from the enemy. So what are those things? What are the negative “one anothers” that protect? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a discussion on the No-No’s of God’s family as our One Anothers message series wraps up but the One Another Life continues on.

Honor is an interesting concept when you think about it. We have heard since we were little that we are to “honor your father and mother.” The word honor also brings to mind a courtroom with a judge and someone saying “yes, your honor.” But what does that word really mean? Is it just showing them respect? Or maybe holding them in high esteem? What does it truly look like to honor someone? And what about the folks who are difficult to honor? How are we supposed to treat them? The Bible makes it clear: honor is a big deal to God. So if we are to live a life that shows honor to people, what does God’s Word say about how we are to carry that out? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a conversation on what honor is, how to honor those who seem unhonorable, and some practical ways to show honor to those around you as we continue to live out the One Another life.

The importance of prayer in the life of the believer cannot be overstated. Again and again in the Bible we see accounts of people praying to the Lord and seeing amazing things happen. Through prayer, armies are defeated, the blind see, the lame walk, and the dead are brought back to life. Prayer is quite literally the way we talk to God and one of the ways that God speaks to us. In God’s family, we are commanded to pray for one another, with all kinds of requests and on all kinds of occasions. But what about when we pray and we don’t see results? What about praying in the tough times when we just don’t feel like it? How can we lean on the power of prayer when God feels far away? And how can we open up to others about what is going on in our lives when it could be embarrassing or shameful? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a conversation on the importance of prayer and how we can utilize prayer in God’s family as we live out the One Another life that the Lord has called us to.

At some point in everyone’s life, we have all struggled with being accepted or rejected. Maybe in elementary school you were picked last for dodgeball. Maybe in middle school you were made fun of. Maybe in high school you were left out of the group. Maybe as an adult you were pushed aside or dismissed as not important enough to consider. The truth is, no matter who you are or where you are from, rejection has at some point come to call on you. In God’s family, however, we are called to accept one another. Even so, people have still experienced a lack of acceptance from those in the church. That can be especially painful. Then there is the world around us. Our culture is constantly screaming “accept me the way I am!“, so is that what we are supposed to do? Blind acceptance no matter what? But how can we accept those who are living a lifestyle contrary to what the Bible says? The Bible makes it clear that acceptance is so important, but how do we practically and faithfully live out a one another lifestyle of accepting like Scripture calls us to in the world today? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a conversation on what Biblical acceptance looks like, where to draw the line when it comes to sin, and how God expects His children to accept one another in His family.

There is really nothing that everyone in the entire world can agree on, but the closest statement that might find universal acceptance is that life is tough. Did we hear an “amen” there through the screen? The burdens of life can be so difficult to deal with. Truthfully, for many, it seems like those burdens get tougher every day. We carry so many burdens in our lives like our finances, relationships, job concerns, marriage, health…the list goes on and on. But are these things meant to be burdens? And are we meant to carry them alone? Or does God have a better plan for us to help us when we face the burdens of this life? The truth is that God has given us His family as a way for us to bear one another’s burdens and to help each other in our times of need. But how do we access that? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a conversation on the burdens of this life and how God has designed us to be in relationship with one another to help ease the weights of life that so many of us carry.

When it comes to the concept of love, there is no shortage of stories, songs, poems, movies, books, and more throughout all of human history that attempt to convey what it truly means to love someone. Even so, love, for some people, can be difficult to define. We know it when we experience it. We also know what it means to be unloved, to feel like we are isolated or alone or even hurt by those that we expected to feel love from. In Scripture, Jesus says that the world will know that we are followers of Him by the way that we love. Jesus is the perfect picture of true love, and we are called to be imitators of Him. So how do we do that? How do we, as imperfect people, love other imperfect people perfectly like Jesus did? Is that even possible? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a discussion on how to love like Jesus and how we are called to love one another in the family of God.

Families. We all have them. Most of the time we are grateful for our families, for the love and support they provide in the good times and the bad. There are times, however, where it can be tough to be around family. Family comes in all shapes and sizes as well. What may seem normal in one household can seem absolutely odd to a visitor from another family. There are traditional families, blended families, blood-relations, the family that you choose…the list goes on and on.In God’s family, we see much the same thing. God has designed us to be in relationship with one another, so it is important for us to learn how to survive and thrive in the family of God. But what does that look like practically? What about when God’s family seems or feels tough to be in? What about when we look around, and realize we NEED each other in this life? Join Pastors Jim, Chad, and Matt for a discussion on how to live with one another in God’s family, some challenges that we all face in doing so, and experience the blessings that come along with being a part of the family of God.

In scripture, Jesus tells His disciples that the world will know that they are followers of His by how they love. Obviously, the relationship that we have with one another as Christ-followers is important to the heart of God. But what about those that aren’t followers of Jesus? What about folks that aren’t like us? What about the people who seem to be in direct opposition to what we believe, that seem to seek to discredit our Savior and dismiss or even do harm to our faith? What does Jesus tell us to do in those situations? Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam for a discussion on loving those who are different than us, some phrases that everyone seems to think are in scripture but are not, Pastor Adam moving to a new season of ministry, and the future of the Other Six Podcast.

As you read through the Sermon on the Mount, you begin to see a theme emerging: Jesus changing the paradigms and established ideas of the day. For those in attendance on the mountain listening to the words of Christ, what Jesus was saying was absolutely a challenge to everything their culture had ingrained in them. These “counter cultural” thoughts drilled right through the letter of the law and got down to the heart of the matter…it’s what is happening on the inside that then shows up externally to show who we really are. Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam for a discussion on letting your yes be yes, turning the other cheek, and going the extra mile as followers of Jesus as our “Sermon on the Mount” series continues.

Some of the things that Jesus says in the Sermon on the Mount are hard to talk about. Like, really hard to talk about. Sexual purity can be one of those things. Jesus doesn’t pull any punches, however, and He is clear with us on the fact that God expects us to exhibit purity in all of our relationships. With phrases like “if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out” and “if you hand causes you to sin, cut it off”, we can clearly see that the subject of purity matters a great deal to the heart of God…but we live in a culture that so often celebrates the opposite. So what do we do as followers of Jesus? Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam for a discussion on sexual purity, how we can strive for purity in our lives and relationships, and some practical tips on what living a life of purity looks like.

Have you ever been angry? Of course you have. The emotion of anger is something common to us all. Whether it’s a momentary flare up as someone cuts you off in traffic, a righteous anger when you see something that ought not be, or a bitter anger that seeps into your life and takes control, all of us have felt it at some point. So if all of us experience anger, then it must not be that big of a deal, right? But what if it is a big deal? What if our anger can lead us to a place where our lives have no peace and no joy? In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus addresses the issue of anger and uses some pretty harsh language and imagery when talking about what it can do to our lives. Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam for a discussion on anger, some ways that we can keep anger from taking over our lives, and how we can experience peace and joy through reconciliation.

In the life of every Christ-follower, there exists questions. Questions like: What is it that I truly believe? What makes up the foundation of my faith? What is God looking for me to do in my life? How can I live a righteous life when I fail so much of the time? These are just some examples. The good news is, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives some great teaching that we can apply to our lives to help us answer some of these questions and grow in spiritual maturity. It’s considered by many to be the greatest sermon ever preached: the Sermon on the Mount. Found in Matthew Chapter 5, Jesus uses this sermon to kick-off His public ministry. Right off the rip, we see how Jesus turns so much of what people believed at the time on its head with the Beatitudes. The truth for us is the same as it was for those on the mount that day: that if we would apply the Beatitudes to our lives then we would see the kind spiritual growth that God desires for us. Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam for a discussion on the Beatitudes, what it looks like to apply them to our daily lives, and a deeper dive into the significance of the Sermon on the Mount as our journey into this new message series begins.

It’s one of the most well known stories in the Bible…the arrival of Jesus into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey, at the start of Passover Week. While the entrance of Christ into the Holy City was a triumphant one, with palm branches waving and the people shouting “Hosannah!”, the week would end in the trial and crucifixion of Jesus. So what led up to this “Palm Sunday”? What happened in the days between a kingly arrival and a criminals death? And what are the lessons for us today? Over and over in scripture we see the theme that obedience to God is better than sacrifice. God is after our hearts, and as any parent can tell you, we demonstrate where our heart is based on our level of obedience. Almost nowhere in the Bible is this better illustrated than with the story of King Saul, the first King of Israel. He was picked by God, anointed by the prophet Samuel, and through a series of disobedient decisions to the Lord ultimately ends his reign in disgrace. So what is the lesson for us here? Obedience is tough for us all, so are we all destined to fail like Saul did? The foundation to any relationship in the world is trust. Whether it’s a husband and wife, parent and child, friendship, working partnership, or anything else, trust is an absolutely essential component to make the relationship work. The same is 100% true of our relationship with God. We even often use the term “trusting in Jesus as our Savior” to describe our salvation experience. So if trust is so essential, how come it can be so hard so much of the time to practically live that out with God? When we walk through the tough times, the storms of life, are we truly trusting in the faithfulness of Jesus? Or are we just trying to control what we can? Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam for a conversation on what it means to daily live a life of trust in the Lord and deepen our relationship with Jesus through any season we encounter.

Have you ever found yourself on a boat in the middle of a storm? If so, you know the helpless feeling that accompanies the waves crashing, the wind howling, and the boat rocking back and forth. It’s not a pleasant experience. That is the exact situation that the disciples of Jesus found themselves in on the Sea of Galilee during the ministry of Jesus. As the storm raged, they had to wonder to themselves why Jesus had brought them into this mess. The same can be true for us today. Supreme Court decisions. Roe v Wade. The Bible talking about slavery. The role of women in the Church. Do we have your attention yet? These are some of the most hot button issues of our day…but what does the Bible say about them? The Bible tells us that the best example we can see of Jesus’s relationship with the Church is marriage between a husband and wife. Paul writes in Colossians chapter 3 that the relationship calls for sacrificial love on the part of the husband, who represents Christ, and humble submission on the part of the wife, who represents the Church. The problem is that sacrifice and submission can seem like outdated ideas in this day and age. And raising kids to be obedient? It sounds impossible. So how do we stick to God’s family plan in a time where everything in our culture is telling us to go the opposite way? Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam for a discussion on how God values men and women equally, how to have a thriving marriage, and how to raise your children to follow Jesus in a world that is desperately trying to pull them the other way.

In the Old Testament, the Hebrews were given a list of rules to follow in order to be in “good standing” with God. Simply follow the rules, and everything is good, right? The only problem with that is that over and over again the Israelites failed to live up to their end of the bargain…and over and over again, there were consequences. When Jesus came, He gave us an entire new standard: the standard of grace and mercy. In fact, we were released from the rule of the law but at the same time, the new standard seems to hold us to an even higher way of living. So how do we reconcile all this? Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam as we continue through the book of Colossians and discuss how grace and mercy collide with our actions and what God expects from us today.

Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam this week as they tackle some of the biggest questions in our faith and learn how through all of the questions, doubt, and fear, God is constantly working for His glory and your good.

So often today we feel like the church is in retreat. Between culture, covid, and everything else going on in this world it can be very easy to think that nothing good is happening and perhaps God has slowed down His work on Earth. But is that reality? Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam as we continue our journey through the book of Colossians and talk about how every Christian is a minister and called to do the work of ministry in the rescue mission of Heaven.

There seems to be so much about the nature of God that is difficult for us to understand; His ways. His size. Why He chooses certain things over others. Scripture talks about the mystery of the gospel and the invisible God, but also tells us that same God wants a relationship with us. So how can we reconcile the fact that God is beyond our understanding but also wants to be a part of our lives in an incredibly personal way? Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam as we continue our journey through the book of Colossians and talk about how God, even as big as He is, desires to be in close relationship to you and went all the way to the grave and back to prove it.
