On this episode, Gillis and Tarryn talk about the most confusing topic ever....are you perimenopause or not? In today's society, this is based upon age, but age doesn't always dictate peri.
Gillis and Tarryn lay out how to TRULY tell if you're peri or not with bloodwork markers that you can run to know if you are or not vs "welp I'm this age, I'm peri."

On this episode, Gillis and Tarryn talk about the most common thing women hear when it comes to HRT : "It will help you lose weight" - This is usually a sales gimmick/tactic, and can be misleading when it can be a blanket statement when talking about males because this can be true for make when it comes to testosterone, but may not be true when we are talk about women.
Again, it's all about dosing/time exposed to the hormone, which the also talk about.
Gillis and Tarryn breakdown all forms of HRT (the hormones used) and how it could play against your weight loss or doesn't help it at all with making it "easier."

Think testosterone is the key to building muscle as a woman? Think again.
In this episode, Gillis & Tarryn break down why thyroid hormone—specifically T3—is the true driver of metabolism, recovery, and muscle protein synthesis in women. We’ll dive into what T3 actually does in the body, how it compares to testosterone, and why “normal” thyroid labs might not be enough if you’re not seeing results from your training.
You’ll learn:
• Why T3 is queen when it comes to muscle gain
• What happens when thyroid is suboptimal—even if your testosterone is fine
• The most common signs your T3 might be holding you back
• What labs to look at and what “optimal” actually means
If you’re tired of spinning your wheels in the gym and want a deeper, more personalized approach, we offer 1:1 coaching and functional lab reviews. Whether you’re in a muscle-building phase or working on body recomposition, we’ll get your hormones, nutrition, and training aligned.

On this episode, Gillis & Tarryn take a somewhat deep dive in adrenals and DHEA aka your body's resiliency to stress. A common trend that Tarryn has been seeing while do lab reviews is that a lot of women are struggling with adrenal health and how their bodies take on stress, leading to either really high DHEA or very low DHEA due to chronic stress stress that is not being addressed and is having an impact on the body.
They also address how to support your adrenals along with having caffeine in a fasted state and does this really impact cortisol like some functional health coaches state, and of course, providing you with their insight this to this that isn't so black and white.

Welcome back to a NEW season of GT Radio! Let's start this season off with a bang and talk about correcting hypothyroidism. The biggest mistake people make with trying to correct a lower functioning thyroid is thinking that it's just about increasing calories, and lifting more.... don't get us wrong, yes, that is helpful, BUT....
There's A LOT more that goes into it than just those two things.
On this episode we dive into the layers and what other things need to be addressed, and why just increasing food intake & training isn't the solution, especially for the folks who deal with adrenal cortisol issues.

Welcome to a new season of GT Radio! On this episode, we're kicking it off with a bang and a topic that really lights a fire in our souls - being told you need to follow a low carb diet to correct your hormone issues/health. Disclaimer: WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT INSULIN RESISTANCE, so don't get it twisted - that's a WHOLE other topic.
If you're struggling with hormone issues ( sex hormone imbalances, thyroid issues, adrenal issues, poor liver pathways, etc) and you're being told to to cut the carbs out.......RUN.

On this episode, Gillis & Tarryn talk about cycle syncing. If you don't know what cycle syncing is, it's changing up training & diet based upon where you're at in your cycle. We believe that this is VERY subjective to the female, her goals, lifestyle, hormone health status.....listen to find out why!
And of course.. it wouldn't be GT Radio with our mini-rants that involves explicit language - you've been warned!

On this episode, Gillis and Tarryn break down all the pro's and con's of difference forms of hormone testing because it can be very confusing on which tests are needed and when.
Gillis & Tarryn break down the best forms of testing for specific hormones, along with the costs of running these tests because traditional doctors ( even OB's & Endocrinologists) typically do not run all the needed health markers to connect the dots and are under the misunderstandings that they can cost you thousands of dollar, which is far from the truth.

On this episode, Gillis and Tarryn discuss the difference between clinical vs functional labs, and how in a clinical setting, the purpose is to treat a sickness or disease, while on the function side, it's focusing on preventing sickness and/disease, along with looking at all the systems for overall health and well being.
Tarryn also discussed some comments she received on post from physicians about only running TSH & T4.
Gillis & Tarryn also give insight on where you can run fully functional labs outside of your PCP, OB, or endocrinologist.

We provide some insights on the following:
- How our bodies "view" alcohol
- How our bodies metabolize alcohol
- The impact alcohol has on thyroid
- The impact alcohol has on sex hormones
- The impact alcohol has on prolactin
- The impact alcohol has on our gut

On this episode, we talk about the impacts of low carb dieting on thyroid function and metabolism from a scientist, experience, & application standpoint. Regardless of what mainstream media promotes, carbs are not the enemy, and our thyroid needs glucose to properly function, and we take a deep dive into this.
Also, it wouldn't be GI Radio without us getting a little bit ranty & real.... Gillis opens that door & brings up social media trolls, people who challenge other people on IG with the famous line "do you have research on this," and of course, having a bias when it comes to research vs having an open mind!

On today's episode, Gillis & Tarryn talk about the biggest misunderstanding when it comes to fat loss - thinking that cutting calories is a linear thing. The goal to a successful fat loss is about approaching the calorie adjustments in a non-linear fashion, which the data is the roadmap, and of course, & knowing what calls to make does come with experience.
In a lot of cases, when we take our clients through a fat loss phase (gender specific!), calories fluctuates, and they aren't trending always downwards. Yes, calories do decrease the deeper we get into a fat loss phase, but it's not a constant decrease each week.

On this episode, we take things a different route. We always talk about adaptations and how they are a negative thing, but what a lot of people fail to realize is that adaptions are needed in order to make any kind of aesthetic goals.
Too many people play it safe because they are scared of the adaptations, however, these adaptations are a "positive" thing when it comes to progress and are part of the journey.

One of the biggest misunderstood things about the human body is all the systems work together, & in a lot of cases, the start of hormone dysfunction starts in the gut.
On today's episode, we sat down with Alyssa Tyler, who is an RD, coach, mentor, educator, with a strong focus on gut & functional health, to talk about how hormone dysfunction impacts guts.
We cover the following:
- Cortisol & Gut
-Thyroid & Gut

The biggest mistakes women make when it comes to healing their hormonal issues is doing the same thing that they have been doing that may contributed to why they have hormone issues to begin.
In order to heal, you have to be willing to take a step back and correct lifestyle that is contributing to cortisol issues that's causing the hormonal issues- leading to one big shit storm.
On this episode, we take multiple dives into hormone dysfunction, starting with chronically high cortisol, what could be the cause of this playing into hormonal health, and our methods of how we have our female clients train/exercise based upon their specific needs, biofeedback, health markers, mental health, etc.
The whole focus of this episode was supposed to be all about training with a hormone imbalance, but we took a step back and came at this topic from different angles - it's a longer episode, but JAM PACKED with great info!

On today's episode, we talk about losing weight while on hormonal birth control. Is it impossible? No, but it can be difficult especially if you're not willing adjust according to the adaptations that can happen while on hormonal birth control. We also discuss the two different sides we have seen when it comes to women being on hormonal birth control & being in a fat loss phase. The key here is understanding that every women responds differently - some have no issues when it comes to making progress, while others tend to hit a wall and can't make progress unless they are willing to push harder.

On this episode, we talk about playing it too safe with a fat loss due to the fear of adaptations such as thyroid down-regulations, sex hormones imbalances, etc. The biggest take away is that adaptations WILL occur when we are in a fat loss, even with doing a healthy fat loss . Us as coaches, we do practice healthy fat loss protocols with our clients, however, we also understand that adaptations will occur and the only thing we can do is slow them down through specific dieting strategies but we can't avoid them nor do we let them stop us from pushing when we need to push for progress.
Unfortunately, in order to make progress, you have to induce adaptions, but the key is having a plan post fat loss to help restore the adaptions that has occurred.

On this informational /ranty only because this is a topic that lights Tarryn's soul on fire we talk all about the biggest mistakes women who are over 30 years old make - continuously going back and following the same diet they did in their 20's because it worked then but doesn't usually work now.
The longer the dieting history we have, the more our physiology/resiliency can change that does impact how we make progress or the lack thereof regardless of what you do.
Ladies...
We need to change.......
We need to do better.......
We need to actually LISTEN to all the great information out there, while not having these self-limited beliefs of "I can't do that; my body doesn't work like that; I can't eat more or I'll get fat," and save yourself the trouble/ more stress you're putting on your body.

On today's episode, we talk all about mini cuts , and whymost women shouldn't consider/do these because of women physiology and how the female body responds to a caloric deficit + the time she needs to actually lose the weight.
When it comes to mini cuts, they are a sort period of time of being in an aggressive calorie deficit because the idea of this is to get in, lose weight fast, get out, however, this concept favors males more than female - we break this all down on this episode!

On this episode, we dive back into blood glucose and how to correct the issues rather than cutting out the carbs. If you listened to part 1 ( I HIGHLY recommend you do before listening to this episode to piece it altogether), we discuss getting down to the root issues as to why blood glucose is high vs just basing it off of a number and cutting out the carbs, again, replacing one stressor for another.
If you have been struggling with blood glucose, you want to listen to this episode because we discuss unique ways on how to drive down blood glucose issues without replacing a stress for another stress - these things maybe things that you never thought of or heard of, or maybe you have, but just needed a fresher.

On this episode, we dive into blood glucose issues. The "norm" that we have been hearing a lot of is cutting out carbs to correct the blood glucose issue, however, this isn't always the answer because the solution is finding out what the root cause is, and correcting things at that level that will correct blood glucose issues.
Removing carbs from one's diet to correct a blood glucose issue where the root cause isn't be addressed is replacing one stressor for another stressor and may not help, but only makes matters worse.
Side note: we are dividing this up into two episodes because we experienced some tech issues, as you'll hear at the end of the episode where we got cut off....... smh.
On part 2, we will discuss how keep our blood glucose healthy - stay tuned!

On this episode, we talk about authenticity, and why it's so important in the coaching space/world/and your daily life.
Authenticity is one of the most important things a person can be, and let's face, people aren't stupid, and they can see through the bullshit.
We talk about our own pasts that made us the people we are today, while also talking about how your past can make or break you.
Our goal isn't to seek attention, it's to seek respect, especially for Tarryn and how her mindset is very different from most females in this space, and how she see a lot of people doing the same things that is a huge turn off for her, and why she thrives with being the rebel and doing the opposite, even if that means doing the hard shit, creating her own path, and not following the path that is easy and was already created by someone else - #lonewolf.

The biggest myth out there is that females do better on higher fats and low carbs when it comes to fat loss...and this is far from the truth. In fact, this is only going to cause her to progress to stall out or stop all together.
On this episode, Tarryn shares her story/experience that she went through with this type of dieting for her very first contest prep, and how over the course of 28 weeks of dieting, she only lost 5 Ibs.......
We also talk about how to properly diet a female, the difference between dieting a male vs female, dieting techniques we use, how to carb cycle, how to set up refeed days, and so much more!

The most frustrating thing is when you have done your homework pre fat loss and worked on increasing your calories, then you decided to move into a fat loss, drop your calories and ....... NOTHING HAPPENS.
WHY?!?! insert dooms day
I want to ensure you that you're not broken, there maybe a few things that you are missing, and on this episode, we cover all the ground work for you from talking about the reverse dieting process, energy output while in a reverse dieting phase, to moving into a fat loss phase when the time is right, and how to ensure that you are in fact in a calorie deficit because remember, the metabolism can up-regulate and down-regulate, and just because you worked your carbs and fats up to your threshold, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can make a small cut in calories, and weight will fall off.
Get the facts and give this episode a listen!

We are switching gears from all the science talks and talking some of our struggles with self doubt. We have always been believers in talking about the struggles and how we over-come them, because let's face it, hearing about the positives over and over gets old, especially when there are struggles in everyones's day to day life - it's not just about the struggles, but how we over-came them, and still battle them.
One of the biggest battles people face is self-doubt and lack of belief in self, it's safe to say that we have dealt with this, and still do from time to time, but the key is how we battle those demons.
In today's episode, Gillis and Tarryn talk about just that- the self-doubt battles and struggles they had and still do have till this day and how they fight that war.

Everyone likes showing the their lean bodies that they achieved through dieting, but no one really talks about the aftermath struggles post dieting, which is the hardest part.
On this episode, Gillis & Tarryn talk about how fat loss is the easy part, but the post diet is the hardest part because of the physiological impacts of being lean. Tarryn talks about her struggles post contest prep, how she felt, being out of control with food, and packing on weight too quickly.
We also discuss how we look internally after long-term diets, and how to go about post long-term fat loss phases/getting the leanest one has ever been because there is strategy to it, and gaining body fat too quickly can have negative consequences.

On this episode, Gillis & Tarryn discuss the over-thinkers. What do we classify as "the over-thinkers?" People who read too much into the process, have trust issues because they have been burned before by another coach, and trying to find answers on Dr. Google about their situation (progress, hormones, etc.). We also discuss how over-thinking creates a stress that can be the reason why you're not making progress ( Tarryn discusses her personal issues she had with this when working with coaches in the past).

We're kicking off season 2 with "the carb talk." So many people (ladies.... ) fear carbs or think that it's the only way to lose weight, which yes, you will lose weight, however, you will gave it all back once you go back to your normal eating habits.
One of the biggest questions we ask when people who want to follow extremes when it comes to dieting is : Can you see yourself making this a lifestyle and eating like this forever? If not, then your choice of "diet" is setting you up for failure post diet.
Be aware, this is a passionate topic, and f-bombs fly in this podcast... mostly by Tarryn... of course.

There's more to coming off of hormonal birth control than just stopping.... in fact, you want to prepare yourself the best way you can before stopping and that within itself will take some homework that you will need to do, ensuring you're doing everything right to support your body and management the stress on the body.
In this two part series, we discuss the ins and outs of coming off of hormonal birth control and how to prepare your body nutritionally and support the body's systems that may have been impacted because remember, hormonal birth control DOES NOT regulate hormones, it suppresses them, and the goal post birth control is to recover and heal those systems that have been suppressed for however long you have been taking it.

We are in the season where no one really cares about fat loss since we are in the holiday season, and if you're putting your fat loss goal on hold until the New Year, that's completely okay! The thing is though... how you start that fat loss really does matter and will be the determining factor on how well you succeed.
It's not about going 0-100 with starting on low kcals and high energy output, that's a recipe for a faster metabolic adaptation or "plateau" as a lot of folks refer to this as.
On this episode, we dive into how to properly start a fat loss and go about this in a way where you have enough "fuel in the tank" to take you the distance.

We would think that doing more, whether it's more exercise or excess dieting is the key to making FASTER progress, but in all reality this is the thing that's stopping progress due to the internal stress response.

In this episode, Tarryn addresses a few comments that she received recently on social media about "how hormones don't matter, and it's pseudoscience nonsense."
Tarryn also goes on to mention about how women are the "silent suffers" when it comes to women's health and how hormones play a huge role in how we feel and also how she notices that a lot of the kick back does come from males - ironic or lack of understanding?
Unfortunately, this is common especially when it disrupts other people's thoughts/theories and what their "popular IG influencer" is telling feeding them.
PS- Tarryn does get heated in this episode and drops a lot of F-bombs... You've been warned.

On this episode, we start off talking about how hormones play into our health/quality of life, then moving into hormonal birth control and the negative toll it has on female health, what does Dr. Lomboy consider to be "safe" birth control, why is birth control given to women with PCOS and also menopausal women, estrogen dominance, the role of testosterone in women, making lifestyle changes first before HRT, HRT protocols such as testosterone creams vs injectables, should we cycle progesterone, how progesterone plays into metabolic health, and lastly, busting through some myths about testosterone creams and the age old question of does BHRT cause cancer, and more!

In this episode, Gillis & Tarryn provide you with other tools to track progress rather than the scale. When it comes to changing the physique, the scale shouldn't be a HUGE focal point or dictate your success. The scale is the number one reason why people give up on their fitness goals because they let that number either make or break them. Gillis and Tarryn cover the reasons why the scale fluctuates, some insight on how they track progress for not only themselves, but also their clients, and gives you that reassurance that just because the scale isn't moving and/or fluctuating, doesn't mean you're not making progress.
