BISMARCK, N.D. – In North Dakota, conservation programs can be found for landowners big and small. In an effort to gather all of these programs and agencies around the state into one centralized hub of information, the Dakota Legacy Initiative was formed.
“The Dakota Legacy Initiative is a collaborative effort to provide information on conservation programs and resources in a unique inclusive platform,” said Sarah Tunge, Dakota Legacy Initiative Coordinator and Mercer County Soil Conservation District Manager.
With nearly 45.2 million acres of land and water making up our state, it’s essential for farmers, ranchers, and other landowners to have the right resources available to them to preserve North Dakota’s legacy of agriculture and conservation.
“We are excited to launch this one-stop internet platform that compiles cost-share programs, technical assistance programs, and educational resources into one convenient location for producers, landowners, and other interested parties,” Tunge added.
Dakota Legacy Initiative’s website takes the guesswork out of finding reliable sources and equips producers and landowners with all the relevant and timely information available to them. The site allows them to perform searches for both urban and rural resources and narrow their searches by topic and county.
In addition to existing resources and programs, the Dakota Legacy Initiative plans to provide educational opportunities on a variety of conservation topics.
“Our next step will be to launch an educational webinar series and online e-learning campus,” said Tunge. “These will be provided free of charge and topics will cover a variety of conservation best practices and programs.”
With historic funding being allocated to conservation, it’s important to bring together partners to provide the most up-to-date information for landowners to ensure the efficient delivery of conservation programming across the state.
For a full list of partners or to sign up for email notifications regarding future educational opportunities, visit DakotaLegacyInitiative.com.
