The main idea for the sermon was: Know true blessing through trusting in God’s promises and presence.
Questions discussed in this episode:
Does God still speak (communicate) with people today through dreams?
Is it really true that there is nothing I can do to escape the presence of God?
You shared a monologue you had with yourself during a trip where you were leading your family and you kept getting off course. You heard a voice telling you that you aren’t good enough. Can you share ways to fight the lies the Devil hits us with everyday that tempt us to take our eyes of Jesus?
The simple belief that God’s presence will never leave his children should empower his followers to spread the gospel all the time. Why do you think this is still a struggle for Christians?
I struggle with fear. What are some ways I can get rid of this spirit of fear?
What would you say to Christians who are not making disciples? Am I disobeying God if I am not evangelizing and making disciples?
What would you say to Christians who overemphasize "waiting on God's timing" to be faithful? For example, someone doesn't want to share the gospel with a friend because they feel it isn't quite "God's timing" just yet. Is that similar or different from Jacob waiting 20 years?

The main idea for the sermon was: To trust in God’s way and not in our own way.

You mentioned that God warns Christians about marrying non-Christians. Why does God give that warning? And is it a sin if a Christian does marry a non-Christian?
We see that Jacob's faith grows after he is sent away. What advice would you give to someone who is struggling with their faith when they are going through times of hardship?
Doesn't God love everyone (John 3:16)? Explain what Malachi is saying "I have loved Jacob but Esau I have hated."
Isaac clearly favored Esau, and you would imagine he could have given him a more positive blessing than the one he got. Why didn't he?
You sort of dropped a bomb on unbelievers at the end with that awesome chart, and told us to take a picture for reference. Would you mind picking one line and walking through it in more detail?

In week 43 of the Genesis Series, Elder Rich Porter leads us through Genesis 28:1-9 to see our extraordinary God often accomplishes his sovereign purposes through ordinary people.
In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" we are back in Genesis. This week Jason preached through Genesis 27:1-46.
The main idea for th1e sermon was: Sinfully living our way can break a lot of things, but it can never break the covenant promises of God.
Two main points to be learned from this passage of scripture: 1. Living your own way will always break your life apart. 2. Trusting God's voice above any other will hold your life together.
Questions discussed in this episode:
Briefly share why it was God's will for Jacob to receive the blessing rather than Esau, and is that contrary to what usual custom during that time?
When Issac gave Esau his only one blessing, and he told him he would live away from the earth's richness... (39, 40), why is that considered a blessing? How are we defining what a blessing is? This sounds more like casting out/curse/life of trouble.
What power do human words have when they are given as a "blessing"? Perhaps the definition of a blessing is God's desires/plans/intentions, said through human lips? Is that why Issac's blessing was irrevocable?
No matter how bad we mess up (fail or sin) can we change God’s will for our life?
In this portion of scripture we see a parent (Rebekah) give direct orders (obey my voice as I command you) to her son Jacob. Now although Jacob sinned many different times during his meeting his father, wasn't he just following what his mother commanded him to do. If he would have chosen to disobey her, would that had been a sin?
Living your own way will always break your life apart - couldn't we also add and many times the lives of others?

In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" Jason and Jesse discuss the question: How Did We Get So Many Christian Denominations?
The question comes from UBC’s “Asking for a Friend” sermon series.
Questions discussed in this episode:
Is it a good or bad thing that it feels like there is “a different denominational church on every corner?”
Define essential Christianity?
How does one recognize “False teaching” versus “difference in doctrinal theology” in denominations (for example: baptizing infants)
What denominations, although they identify as “Christian,” are concerning to you and why?
Where does Catholicism fit with the definitions from today? Catholicism does seem to hold the Nicene Creed true, but there are other areas that do not seem to hold with other Biblical truths.
Sermon application point #3 instructed us to “Resolve to love Jesus’ church in all its denominational forms.” What should that look like for us when considering that so many denominations have accepted and promoted liberal theology and practices that are unbiblical? (Same-sex marriage, pro-choice, errancy of scripture, etc…)
What are our secondary convictions at UBC?
UBC is a Baptist church. What does it mean to be a Baptist? Is there anything that makes Baptists distinct from other denominations?
Briefly explain why UBC is part of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC)?

Why is it a good thing that Jesus claims that he is the only Way?
Why is it such a grace that as Christ followers we know without doubt that Jesus is the absolute truth?
We live in a world with many different religions that believe and teach that there are others than Jesus who give LIFE. Why is Jesus’ claim that he is Life so important to believe, accept, and share with others?
Last year the youth group went on a mission trip within our country and had the opportunity to share the gospel with a group of people who don’t believe Jesus is the only way, the only truth, and the only way to life. How can Jesus’ claim in John 14:1-6 be used to share the gospel with others and why is it important to teach Jesus’ as the way, the truth, and the life to others?
John 3:16-17 says that God did not send his Son into this world to condemn the world. That is speaking of when Jesus first came to this world. What does the Bible say Jesus will do when he comes again?

Main Claim: Jesus is the eternal, covenant-making God
Questions discussed in this episode:
What are some modern day religions or denominations that reject Jesus' divinity that we need to be aware of? And can we consider them to be Christian?
Most Jews (not all, but many) reject Jesus as Messiah, just like the people in this passage. How should we, as Christians, relate and interact with Jews who reject Jesus?
In your sermon you said our eternal life hangs on the claim that Jesus is divine. Does someone have to understand and embrace Jesus' divinity in order to be saved? Explain.
In John 8:44, Jesus told the crowds that their father was the devil. Does that mean that anyone who isn’t saved is actually a child of the devil, not of God?
In that verse, Jesus said that Satan was a liar and deceiver from the beginning. Could you explain more about what Jesus meant by that? Was it the reference to the garden of Eden or to something that occurred prior?
Why is it good that I feel insufficient to carry out the work of Jesus?

Questions discussed in this episode:
In the passage, Jesus says “any branch in me that does not bear fruit will be taken away…pruned… and cast into the fire”. Can someone actually be a branch in Christ, but not bear fruit? If so, does that mean that some people who were once in Christ will be cut off, no longer be in him, and eventually cast into hell?
You said “Jesus is the source of our ‘clean-ness’, and we are not able to clean ourselves up.” If that’s the case, then why does Jesus connect abiding in his love with obeying his commands in vs 10. Do we even need to make an intentional fight against sin or a volitional choice to pursue holiness in order to abide?
If we put other things above God, finding great joy in our spouse, kids, job, sports, and it feels fine, is that a concern?
What does fully surrendering to Jesus look like?
What are some practical ways to abide and have that “consistent closeness” that Jesus mentions? Or stated another way, how do you practically experience that close friendship with Christ...ways we can seek joy (satisfaction) in Jesus and Jesus alone?

There are some people who believe Jesus is speaking literally in John 6:53-56 when He says eat my flesh and drink my blood. Explain what Jesus is saying here?

Speaking truth in a loving way requires a delicate balance of knowing truth, loving the person you’re speaking to, and the will to act by speaking that truth. In week four of our Love Like Jesus series, Mark 10:17-22 gives us a perfect example we can mirror as Jesus speaks the truth in love a rich young ruler.
As we look at Matthew 5:43-48 in week three of our Love Like Jesus series, we study one of the most challenging teachings Jesus gives throughout scripture; the call to love our enemies.
Through Luke 10:25-37, we look at Jesus’ teaching on how to love our neighbor through the setup, story, summary, and significance of The Parable of the Good Samaritan.
When we realize how much we are loved by Jesus, we will then love like Jesus. Through John 15:12-17, Pastor Jason begins our new series, Love Like Jesus, a 5-week study where we’ll look at passages of scripture that highlight Jesus’ great love for us and encourage one another to show the love of Jesus to a hurting world.
Through Acts chapter 10, Pastor Jason teaches a gospel-based response to racial and ethnic hostility.
As we celebrate Father’s Day, Pastor Jason Wing guides us through Psalm 78 & Joshua 24 in the final sermon for our Generations series. In this sermon, Pastor Jason focuses on what means for fathers to lead their families to honor and know The Lord.
