I had intended to include two more episodes in the Macabre Museums season. One about true crime Museums and a finale of paranormal museums. However, instead, I’ve decided to cut the season short for a couple of reasons. I won’t go into all of the nitty-gritty details but I will say that my family and I have endured a couple of health scares lately. It’s kind of pulled the world back into focus and made me reassess my priorities. So for now as I regroup and recalibrate, I’m putting the podcast on hold to concentrate on my family, my health, and my writing. You can still jaunt with me online anytime at HauntJaunts.net, though. I really do appreciate you sailing the airwaves with me, whether it was during any of this season’s episodes or any of the others. What is a monster? The Oxford Languages dictionary defines a monster as “an imaginary creature that is typically large, ugly, and frightening.” Which is also what makes monsters fascinating, right? Their frightening aspect.

There are really only two UFO museums:

The Pine Bush UFO & Paranormal Museum in Pine Bush, New York, and
The International UFO Museum & Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico, a.k.a. what many consider the mecca of UFO museums.

We explore both, as well as a couple of other museums with UFO connections, in this episode of Macabre Museums.

Before we do, though, we examine how and when UFOs first entered America’s consciousness, which can really be traced back to one year: 1947.

A lot of people credit the crash at Roswell with that, which was technically the first thing to happen in 1947, but it wasn't the first to make news. Kenneth Arnold's sighting at Mount Rainier as well as a transport plane out of Boise, Idaho, whose pilot, first officer, and stewardess observed "flying discs" were.

Then we move on to Pine Bush's UFO history, which doesn't have one major event like Roswell did. Rather, it’s had decades-long consistent sightings.

After also talking about the UFO festivals and fairs in both Roswell and Pine Bush, we make a brief stop at two other museums:

The Pennyroyal Area Museum in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, to check out the 1955 “Kelly Encounter” where Lucky Sutton and his family said little green men had landed on their farm and waged an attack on them. This is also where the idea of "little green men" were born.
Seismique in Houston, Texas, which Houstonia Mag called a “Far-Out Journey.”

Did you know that America didn’t have an official national anthem until 1931? The same man who drew attention to that in 1929 is the same one we can pretty much credit with creating oddities museums.

In this episode, we get to know Robert Ripley and his pioneering influence on the bizarre realm of oddities museums.

What started as a comic strip series grew to become books, a radio show, a TV show with several revivals, and Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditoriums around the world, a legacy which has now grown to include over 100 Ripley brand attractions worldwide.

And as the saying goes, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Whether they know it or not, Robert Ripley and his odditoriums at least indirectly inspired the existence of these oddities museums that we also explore in this episode:

Museum of the Bizarre in Wilmington, North Carolina
Museum of the Weird in Austin, Texas
Graveface Museum in Savannah, Georgia
Glitchy's Oddities in Saskatoon, Canada

Kind of like the eclectic collection of unusual artifacts in them --including everything from FeeGee mermaids and shrunken heads, to "freaks of nature," haunted objects, and horror movies props-- oddities museums are a rare breed. Maybe that’s what makes them so much fun to visit?

Abracadabra. Hocus pocus. Alakazam. But which magicians were the first to use those now-famous, albeit stereotypical, conjuring words? Maybe the answer lies in the stops we’ll explore in this episode, which are magic museums around the world.

We start out with museums dedicated to one of the greatest magical showmen of all time: Harry Houdini. Then we progress from there.

The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future paid Scrooge a visit. We borrow that concept of three as we embark in search of haunted bars, ghost stories and energy centers with a New Year's Eve and/or New Year connection.

Places we explore this episode include:

Sydney, Australia - We check out two haunted hotels in the Rocks: The Australian Heritage Hotel and the Russel Hotel. Both aren't far from the Circular Quay, a great place to watch New Year's Eve fireworks in Sydney.
London, England - We briefly examine the story of a ghost who some say jumps from Westminster Bridge as Big Ben rings in the New Year. Some even say it's Jack the Ripper... (Though that's doubtful.) Speaking of the infamous serial killer, we briefly check out a haunted pub he may have a connection to, The Ten Bells. We also visit the Grenadier, one of London’s oldest and many say most haunted pubs.
Edinburgh, Scotland - It wouldn't be a proper New Year without checking out Hogmanay and a pub that proclaims itself Edinburgh's most haunted, the Banshee Labyrinth.
New York City, New York - For NYE travelers, Times Square is often a priority destination. One of NYC's most luxurious and storied hotels is not far from Times Square, the Algonquin. NYC Ghosts shared that the Algonquin conducts a mini exorcism every New Year’s Eve where staff dim the lights and march through the building banging pots and pans to try and ward off sinister spirits.
Nashville, Tennessee - This booming city is an up-and-comer NYE travel destination. Hank Williams Sr. died on New Year's Day. Not in Nashville, and years before Tootsie's Orchid Lounge ever opened. But some say the ghosts of the honky tonk's proprietor, Tootsie Bess, and the country music legend haunts the Broadway bar.
Chicago, Illinois - Legend has it that a woman jumped from the 10th floor of the Drake Hotel on New Year's Eve. Some believe that may be the woman in red thought to haunt the hotel.
Anchorage, Alaska - Another tormented woman who took her life on New Year's Eve can be found in the last stall on the left in the women's bathroom at the Captain Cook Hotel. Except, for her peace of mind and those using the facility, the possessive potty poltergeist's stall has been bolted shut from the inside to try and appease her restless --and sometimes expressive-- manifestations.
Energy vortexes around the world - For those interested in ushering in the New Year with good vibrations, a visit to an energy vortex might be just the thing. We mention eight: Sedona, Arizona; Mount Shasta in California; Maui's Haleakalā Volcano in Hawai; Glastonbury and Stonehenge in England; Es Vedra off Ibizia's coast in Spain; the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt; and the Mayan Ruins in Tulum, Mexico.

December is often called the most wonderful time of the year. But did you know that the Winter Solstice, which happens during December, is the second most haunted time of the year too? Samhain, or Halloween, is the first. The hauntings that happen during Halloween aren’t the same as the ghosts that come to visit during the Christmas season/Winter Solstice, though. Samhain ghosts are more the dead in general coming back, whereas Yule hauntings are much more Dickens-esque. Like Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Winter Solstice hauntings have a purpose and some link to the season’s death/rebirth theme. And while telling scary stories is a popular activity commonly associated with Halloween, it’s also an ancient Yuletide tradition.

One that we partake in in this episode.

"Making Merry: Night of the Living Christmas Decorations,” is a short fiction story I wrote once upon a Christmastime long, long ago. It's not exactly a ghost story, but it does have some horror elements to it, so it does fall into the scary story realm.

And because it's a tale of merriment, mischief, judgment, redemption, and love set during the Christmas season, it's definitely appropriate for the Yule season.

Storyline

Teenagers Kyle and Justin come to regret their decision to get into some spirited mischief by vandalizing and sabotaging all of the Christmas decorations in their neighborhood. Especially when the decorations seek retaliation and retribution --and not even Santa can help them.

Listener Discretion AdvisedThere aren't a lot of bad words in this story, but there are a few, so it's not appropriate for younger listeners.

In this episode, we explore cemeteries, state parks, and cities that all share something in common: Paranormal activity and names of things commonly associated with Christmas.

Snowflake, Arizona - site of one of the most famous abduction cases in the U.S. that inspired the movie Fire in the Sky.
Holly Pond, Alabama - for another UFO sighting
Donner Memorial State Park in Truckee, California
St Marys, Georgia - where we briefly explore the Oak Grove Cemetery before turning our attention to the city's crown jewel, the Orange Hall House Museum. We also make a quick stop to check out the Riverview Hotel's ghost story.
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania - a fitting place to end the tour of haunted places with Christmas names. We briefly touch on a few of the city's haunts overall, such as Lehigh University and Moravian College, but we concentrate most on the restless spirits said to roam the Historic Hotel Bethlehem, located in the heart of Historic Moravian Bethlehem, a U.S National Historic Landmark District.

The Devil in the White City. The Devil’s Rooming House. The Devil Made Me Do It. The first two are titles of books about American serial killers. The last one is a movie title about a murder that inspired the third movie in the Conjuring franchise You might have noticed they all have something in common. Devil is in all of their titles. That’s because the criminals are either likened to being the devil themselves or tried to blame the devil for their deeds. There have also been cases where Satanists have been accused of killing in the name of the devil --or were planning to. Like the 2018 case of the 11 and 12-year old middle schoolers in Florida. The girls were luckily caught and arrested before they could carry out their mass murder/suicide plot, though. But what about if we look at it from his perspective --"he" being the Devil-- and play devil’s advocate, so to speak. Don’t worry. We’re not venturing into satanism territory. Just flipping the script. The Devil is often named as a co-conspirator in crimes, but has he ever been the target of murder? Has he ever been sued? Sometimes houses aren’t haunted by ghosts. Sometimes the restless spirits living under the same roof as the legitimate owners and tenants aren’t unseen souls of the dearly departed. They’re very much alive and secretly dwelling within. Wait, what? That’s just the stuff of urban legends and horror movies like Crawlspace, Hider in the House, or People Under the Stairs, right? Nope. There have been real-life cases of uninvited phantom boarders and stalkers, such as Denver's Spiderman of Moncrieff Place and New Jersey's Westfield Watcher. Those are the two cases we examine in this episode of Haunting American True Crimes.

You might expect something like Crime Categories to appear in the index of the Encyclopedia of American Crime. Listed underneath that heading are a variety of crimes you’d also expect to see: everything from arson and bank robberies to kidnapping, murder, and rape. But there were a couple of crimes I wasn’t expecting, such as Spiritualism, which I discussed in the last episode. But the other shocker was vampires. Of course, that was an entry I had to check out. Turns out it wasn’t referring to the stereotypical bloodsuckers pop culture has conditioned us to expect. It was about vice extortionists. If you’re wondering what the heck that is, stick around. We’ll be talking about those kinds of vampires --which are bloodsuckers in their own right-- as well as people who have committed murder under the delusion of being the more traditional vampires --blood-drinking and all-- in this episode of Haunting American True Crimes.

We examine three cases of killer vampires in particular:

You expect sting operations with certain criminal activities like gambling, prostitution, and illegal drugs. And then there’s Chris Hansen’s appropriately named To Catch a Predator. It uses modern-day technology employed by some of the vilest forms of criminals ever --pedophiles and child molesters-- to catch them red-handed. But what about psychics? Would it surprise you to know that police have performed stings over the years to catch psychic cons and swindlers too? That’s not to say all psychics are frauds --or are they?

I’ll leave that up to you to decide as we examine cases of Spiritualism, Spirit Crimes, and Psychic Stings in this episode of Haunting American True Crimes.

We start with the Fox Sisters, a.k.a. the Rochester Rappers, and the birth of American spiritualism --which was a hoax in its own right. Then we examine cases of psychic swindlers who have perpetrated gypsy curse scams over the years, from the early 1900s up until the present day.

And you can't have an episode about psychic frauds without including those who set out to catch them in the act, including Harry Houdini, Houdini's ghostbusting undercover agent, Rose Mackenberg, James Randi, and Bob Nygaard.

Perhaps Rose Mackenberg put it best: it wasn’t that she was a nonbeliever in spiritualism or unwilling to be convinced in the existence of the afterlife...she just had yet to see any proof of it.

That's not to say it doesn't exist. I couldn't help but reference two psychics, Louis Rader and Jane Coates, who both predicted President Warren G. Harding’s death before it happened.

Not that in either case it was part of a gypsy curse or scam, but Rader was arrested for his prophecy. Perhaps wrongly so?

Perhaps ghosts haven't helped solve their own murders as dramatically as portrayed in fiction --or have they? I’ll let you be the judge of that as we explore a few such cases in this episode of Haunting American True Crimes.

We start off by examining the case of Zona Heaster Shue, a.k.a. The Greenbrier Ghost. A historical marker in West Virginia declares hers is the only known case in which testimony from a ghost helped convict a murderer.

Testimony entered into trial may not have factored into Teresita Basa or Rebecca Cornell's murderers being brought to justice, but the ghosts of these women did materialize to help catch their killers.

A comment on one of my posts from author Priscilla Bettis got me thinking. She had wondered if any of the stories counselors told around summer camp campfires had any basis in fact.

Well, that sparked my curiosity and just begged me to research it. That's how I learned about the Camp Scott Murders.

Once I did, I instantly wondered if it had inspired the Friday the 13th movies. Of that, I’m not sure. (It's doubtful. The writers have never admitted to it.)

However, I do know it inspired this, our first serialized season of the Haunt Jaunts podcast: Haunting American True Crimes. And since it was the inspiration for the series, our first case examines the Camp Scott Murders.

The late 1970s case still technically remains unsolved today. In 1978, Gene Leroy Hart was charged with the 1977 murders of Girl Scouts Lori Lee Farmer, Doris Denise Milner, and Michele Heather Guse at Camp Scott in Oklahoma. But a jury acquitted him in 1979.

What happened to him after that? And to the families of those little girls? We answer both of those questions while inevitably raising others, such as "Could DNA evidence one day once and for all identify the killer and solve the case?"

We also look into another case the Sun once said could have also inspired Friday the 13th: the Lake Bodom massacre in Finland.

Then we circle back around to Camp Scott. Because of its dark history, it never reopened after June 13, 1977. It’s been abandoned ever since. I’m sure paranormal investigators and the para-curious can’t help but wonder, “Is it haunted?” It’s a valid question given the camp’s tragic history, even one that crossed my mind when I first learned of this story, but it’s also one of those cases that begs more respect than usual.

We explore why ghost hunting just feels unacceptable in some cases, and why Camp Scott and the events that transpired there is one of them.

Posies is a short horror film about a woman attempting to hide her transformation into a monster by placing flowers under her skin. It might not sound tantalizing at first blush, but let me assure you it's one of the most beautiful and haunting horror movies --short or long-- that I've ever seen. #superb #horror

That's why I was a bit nervous talking to the directors of Posies, Katherine Fisher and R.H. Stavis (who also wrote it).

It wasn't one of my best interviews. Maybe one of my most awkward. Nerves took hold because I was fangirling. These two are crazy creative and have huge things ahead of them.

In fact, Posies is just a first step. Stavis has a series coming out soon on FX based on her memoir, Sister of Darkness: The Chronicles of a Modern Exorcist. (In addition to being a writer and director, she's also an exorcist!)

We'll also be able to watch her on Tubi on October 31 for Halloween!

And both Stavis and Fisher are hard at work to produce their feature, Wires, which Posies is based on.

They explain it all --and introduce themselves when (a) I failed to and (b) flubbed it all up --in this interview.

I was a bit of a mess, but they couldn't have been lovelier. Great things are ahead for them. I feel it in my bones. Be sure to seek out Posies to watch too...and then tell everyone you know about it. Hype gets results and these two are worth hyping!

Dakota Laden, Tanner Wiseman, and Alex Schroeder graciously spent some time having an unconventional chat with Court about Destination Fear season 3.

Using a combination of questions from fans as well as her own, Court asked things like:

What's up with Dakota's ducks? Are they in every episode and how long have they been doing that?
Who drives the RV?
How long does it take to research each haunted location?
Would they be down to letting fans pick a location for them?
What's up with the drama this season? Is there more than usual? Is everything okay with them?
Will we see them exploring more fun pre-investigation activities in this season's episodes like they did with the hot air balloon in the Waverly episode?
How does it feel to have some fans say that they now like Destination Fear more than Ghost Adventures, and congratulate Dakota for surpassing his mentor?
What was the scariest location for them this season? (Beware, there's a warning that comes with this one. We extracted some top secret info from Dakota we had to edit out. We'll share it at a later date when we get the go-ahead from Discovery and Travel Channel.)
Any news on Destination Fear season 4 yet?
Would they rather return to one of their scariest locations or participate in a Shark Week special?

They answer everything and a little bit more. And, as usual, they are just as warm, fun, and lovely as they appear on TV. For which Court was grateful because she was a little under the weather and off her game, but they rolled with all her hiccups. Such a great crew!

Kendall and Vera Whelpton are the husband and wife filmmaking team whose latest movie, The Sleepless Unrest: The Real Conjuring Home, hits select theaters and VOD on July 16, 2021.

After enjoying an advanced screener of the film, Court had a chance to sit down and talk with the Whelptons about the movie.

Richel Stratton and Brian Murray from Ghost Hunters joined Kendall and Vera for an investigation of the house that's now owned by Cory and Jennifer Heinzen. The foursome spent two weeks living in the home with the Heinzens.

So what happened? Is there as much paranormal activity as people have claimed?

Vera summed it up best, "Something is happening there." But what?

No spoilers here, but here are a few of the questions Court asked Kendall and Vera about the investigation:

What was the origin story for this project? Why did they pick the house that inspired The Conjuring movie? Or did it pick them?
On their first night in the home, Kendall asked Cory if he had any advice for them. Now that they've had a chance to get better acquainted with the house, what advice would they give others who jaunt there to investigate?
What was the most challenging part of investigating for two weeks like that?
Are they okay? (Not gonna say what happened to prompt that question, but let's just say what happened at the Conjuring house did not stay at the house and followed Kendall and Vera home...)

It started with a shark attack at Beach Haven, New Jersey on July 1, 1916, that killed Charles E. Van Sant. Five days later a shark would claim the life of another victim, Charles Bruder, at Spring Lake, just up the shore.

Nerves were rattled but the terror really set in when two more victims, Lester Stilwell and Stanley Fisher, were killed the following week in Matawan Creek by a shark...11 miles inland! Another boy, Joseph Dunn was also bitten that same day (but survived).

Was it one rogue shark? Or several? Was the killer shark (or sharks) among the hundreds that were hunted and killed that July?

Or was it the 7 1/2 foot adolescent great white shark that Michael Schleisser and his friend John Murphy unintentionally caught on July 14, 1916, that was the culprit? When they slit open its belly, human flesh and bones were found inside.

No one knows. But just as suddenly as the shark attacks started that summer, they stopped.

But there was also one more unsolved mystery that summer: the disappearance of George Campbell. He'd been swimming in the same creek where Stilwell and Fisher lost their lives just a day before.

Did he drown, or was he actually a sixth shark attack causality...and could it have been his flesh and bones found inside the shark?

We'll never know.

All we do know is that those awful shark attacks of 1916 griped the nation then, and would go on to inspire Jaws, one of the most iconic horror movies ever.

That was probably one of the wackier questions I asked Ben Hansen when I got the chance to talk with him about Roswell: The Final Verdict, a new series launching on discovery+ on July 2.

The series is comprised of four different elements:

Reenactments
Witness testimonies
The experts (like Ben)
Artificial intelligence (AI) lie detection software.

What did Ben think of the format? Was he surprised by any of the AI lie detection software reveals? Was there any other information shared during the series that surprised him or that he learned something new from?

And what about Roswell: The Final Verdict? Who will like it? Will it change anyone's mind? (Not skeptics. As Ben put it, "There's not much you can do for them.")

He answers all of this and more, as well as graciously puts up with my awkward, scattered questioning.

The Omni Parker House in Boston, Massachusetts, is one of three romantic historic hotels with haunted 10th floors. (The other two are The Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City and The Drake in Chicago.) However, the Omni Parker House may have the most active 10th floor of them all.

Even better, the Omni Parker House is very open about its restless spirits. The concierges keep a “Ghostly Encounters” handout handy for your reading pleasure if you care —or should I say, “dare”— to read it. Of the eight stories on the sheet, half of them are about paranormal activity on the 10th floor. Are we now among those who experienced some?

Perhaps. Which we'll get to, both in this description and the second half of this episode.

Anyway, one of the stories on the sheet was about a Harvey Parker ghost sighting in room 1012.

During my research into the haunted hotel, I came across Unpacked: A blog by Omni Hotels and Resorts. In 2016, they did a Haunted Hotels series. One of the hotels they featured was “Boston’s Omni Parker House.”

This part of the article caught my eye:

To those who knew Harvey Parker, such sightings — which have not been reported for two decades now — could hardly come as a shock.

It reminded me of the “Most durable ghosts” entry in the 1989 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, which I'd picked up to verify whether they really had named Pluckley the most haunted village. (They did. See "Related posts" below if you want to read more."

But the "Most durable ghost" section began:

Ghosts are not immortal and seem to deteriorate after 400 years.

I don't know how durable ghosts are and whether or not they deteriorate after 400 years but say that was true.

Harvey Parker died in 1884. He’s only 136-years-old in ghost years. So where did his ghost go?

BONUS: EVP?

I also included audio from a video recording when I was exploring the various allegedly haunted floors. It happened when I was on my way to check out room 1012.

I wasn't investigating. I was just having a look around, but did I accidentally catch an EVP?

Meteorological summer starts on June 1 and runs to August 31. Astronomical summer starts on the summer solstice, which this year was June 20, and lasts until September 22.

One of the ways to locate days on the Weird Holidays & Observances page is via the Jump to a Month section. The table categorizes months by seasons, which are then grouped meteorologically.

Although I never knew that when I set it up. I knew it wasn’t quite in line with the astronomical tracking, but that would’ve been hard to do. Instead, I just organized them how it seems most people view winter, spring, summer, and fall.

Or, as I now know, meteorologically.

Even though I’m posting this after June 1, in keeping with how the days are listed on the Weird Holidays & Observances page, I’ll start at the beginning of June anyway. Because there are some good days I don’t want to leave out.

I won’t cover all of the weird days in each summer month (June, July, and August). This is more like a highlight reel of the best ones.

Why was Ed Warren so invested in seeing the Devil put on trial instead of Arne Cheyenne Johnson during the 1981 trial following the murder of Alan Bono?

In my review of the doc, I wrote: "I ended up getting my answer when I spoke with Jeff Belanger about his part in The Devil Made Me Do It Shock Docs. He’s one of the experts who's interviewed. But because he also shed some light on other aspects of this case too, that’ll be a post for another time."

Guess what time it is?

Well, it's time to share the interview at any rate. Jeff definitely shed light on why this case was so important to Ed Warren. But that wasn't the only thing he illuminated.

He also explained why Ed's love of the media and his publicity-seeking ways weren't all bad. Jeff credited his career being possible thanks to the precedent the Warrens set.

I had never regarded them in that fashion before, so it was a pleasure to be introduced to that perspective.

Earlier this year you may have heard how US Ghost Adventures bought the Lizzie Borden House & Museum. Last year we had the pleasure of speaking with Josef Kruger, a project manager for USGA, about some fun things the company was doing, including Ghost Flix, Livestream tours (when the pandemic was still keeping most people at home), and their haunted Lily doll.

Well, Josef was gracious enough to hook us up with their communications director, Azure Hall, to talk about the Lizzie Borden House acquisition. Azure shared a little about what sort of things they have planned for the property.

Which, spoiler, yes! They do still plan to operate it as a B&B! They're also looking to expand the ghost tours and perhaps even have a room dedicated to a permanent live stream.

She also shared details about the Lizzie Borden giveaway they're running and how people can enter to win a 2-night stay at the property.

Of course, we traded a couple of ghost stories about haunted hotels. Can't talk about spooky stays without doing that, right? And we talked about its true crime appeal as well.

Mostly it was a pleasant chat about an exciting time in the Lizzie Borden House & Museum's history as it transitions to a new owner.

After stumbling across an article on ViraLuck called "15 Weird Forgotten Holidays We Should Totally Bring Back,” I totally added April 24, St. Mark’s Eve, to the Weird Holidays & Observances page.

St. Mark's Eve doesn't sound very weird or unusual, but what some folks do on it is --or used to do. Not sure it's a thing anymore.

But between the 17th and 19th centuries in some parts of the world it was a thing to sit in a church porch between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. and watch for "future ghosts."

What are future ghosts? The ghosts of people who will die in the coming 12 months.

But there is some other lore associated with St. Mark's Day too. That's what we explore in this episode.

I had a lot of questions for Steve Shippy and Cindy Kaza after watching an advance screener of the Shock Docs special, Ed Gein: The Real Psycho, which begins streaming on discovery+ April 9.

Luckily, I had the chance to ask them!

Had they ever worked together before? Nope. (And what a first case to team up on!)

Did they ever expect they'd investigate anything having to do with Ed Gein, and were they expecting his mom to be so intense, even from the other side?

These are just a few of the questions I asked them.

Carl and Angie bought the Looney Jones House in Columbia, Tennessee, a few years ago. It was in "horrible" shape, as you'll hear them admit in the interview. They were sure their friends and family were all thinking (but too polite to say), "What are you thinking?"

They were thinking they were following a dream of owning a historic home. Angie had always wanted to live in an antebellum home. Being a general contractor (and married to one too), they didn't much care what shape it was in either. A little sweat equity didn't phase them any. As long as it had good bones, they were willing to invest elbow grease to restore it to its former grandeur.

And that's what they've set about doing.

Court talked with them about what it's like restoring a home while you live in it. But she also knew from a mutual friend who had connected her with Carl and Angie that they might also be residing with ghosts.

Now, Carl will tell you he's aware of, but actively ignores, the rumors their new-to-them home is also haunted. He's the skeptic in the family who sets out to debunk any odd activity.

Angie, on the other hand, is very open to the idea that some of the 185-year-old house's former occupants are still there. She shared a couple of experiences she's had as well as those her kids have related. (Seeing figures out of the corner of her eye, hearing footsteps, music, disembodied voices, etc.)

Even if there are ghosts, they're not mean or malicious. Judging from the funny papers that fell out of the chimney (50 years on the exact same date!), the spirits of the Looney Jones house have a playful and good sense of humor.

The other cool thing is Carl and Angie rent out the Looney Jones house for film and music video shoots. A couple of indie films have so far been shot there, as have a number of music videos, including even one by Luke Bryan!

Court loved talking with Carl and Angie because their love for their house was infectious. Sure, they've had some setbacks in the restoration and other challenges, but they embrace it all and are grateful for all the excitement it's brought into their lives too.

If you love old homes, this interview will help you appreciate all the hard work that goes into restoring them. Which is maybe why the ghosts aren't threatening. You give what you get and Angie and Carl only want to give this house decades, maybe even centuries, more life.

The moment I learned that William Mortensen's “Witches” exhibition would be on display at the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick back in 2019, I became obsessed with the museum. Which I still have not yet been to.

However, I found a different way to experience it, via an interview with its director and co-owner, Steven Intermill, who graciously accepted my request for a chat.

We talked about Buckland's firsts --both the museum itself and its namesake's Raymond Buckland, who was the first open Wiccan in the U.S. and went on to found the first witchcraft museum in the U.S.

We also talked a little about the museum's origin story, evolution, and how it ended up in Cleveland.

There was also a lot of levity, like when I asked about the museum's COVID-19 precautions, which many visitors have praised in their Google reviews.

Steven was like, "Well, for one, I need to selfishly protect myself, because if I get sick there's no telling when the museum would reopen. However, there are also the potential headlines. Can you just see it: ' Outbreak at the witchcraft museum.' Thanks, but no."

What else did Steven and I conjure up during our discussion? A great story about a crystal ball, the museum's next exhibition ("Transmutations: Witches, Healers and Oracles"), and, of course, laughs.

The Exorcism of Roland DoeShock Docs special started streaming on February 5 on discovery+. Among the experts interviewed in the film is Troy Taylor, who is the founder of American Hauntings Ink, which offers books, ghost tours, events, and weekend excursions.

Troy has personally authored more than 130 books on ghosts, hauntings, true crime, the unexplained, and the supernatural in America, including The Devil Came to St. Louis(affiliate link), which was about the case of Roland Doe.

Troy joined me to talk about the Roland Doe Shock Docs special and his part in it. Specifically, how he came to know about the case of Roland Doe, and how it led him to digging into how it inspired William Peter Blatty to write the book that inspired the iconic horror movie The Exorcist.

But Troy's main interest was the real-life case, and that's what his book focuses on and what we talk most about.

He also addressed some of the most commonly asked questions he gets, namely:

Alex Matsuo of The Spooky Stuff compiled a list of 30 people she finds the most influential in the paranormal. She stressed that there are hundreds of people who could be considered influential in the field. These are just the 30 that resonated with her.

Once upon a time, there was a chimp named Oliver who was believed to be a hybrid humanzee...and possibly a Bigfoot.

"A hybrid human what?" you may be wondering. And rightly so, I might add. That's what I asked when I first learned about Oliver too.

A humanzee is a cross between a human and a chimp. Yes, "cross" as in offspring. Oliver didn't turn out to be one. As far as I know, there's never been one.

In this episode, I conjure up a post from the past ("Could Bigfoot be a Hybrid Humanzee?") that a current news story ("Bigfoot Hunting Season: Will an Oklahoma Bill Establish One?") reminded me of.

Because what if Bigfoot is a human-primate hybrid of some sort? Warped, I know. But, just for a moment imagine it could be true...think of the ethical implications that poses for a Bigfoot hunting season.

Confession time: ever since I learned of Lily I've been been a bit obsessed with her. Mainly because she comes with some specific rules, the number one being: Don't leave her near mirrors.

Why?

I've wanted to know the answer ever since. Last time I had Josef on as a guest, we briefly touched on the Lily "Host a Ghost" doll that US Ghost Adventures sells, but I needed that mirror question answered.

I got that and so much more, including her origin story and whose soul they believe haunts Lily: the Blood Countess, Elizabeth Bathory.

The original Lily came to them under very mysterious circumstances, which included a handwritten note and coffin-shaped box. Soon after, they started experiencing unusual (paranormal?) activity around their office.

Josef even shared a personal experience about knocking on a window while he was working in the office one night. Which sounds innocuous enough, but he was in a room on the third floor of the building and the window faced outside with no balconies or ledges around for anyone to knock from...

We also discussed the new book series US Ghost Adventures is launching: America's Most Haunted. Their first book is already out and available in print and e-book.

Once Lily let us, that is. She sort of hijacked the show in the beginning...

Like the Halloween full moon, 2020’s Winter Solstice will bring a rare astronomical event too: a planetary alignment between Jupiter and Saturn. But that’s not the only rarity that’s happening with the Great Conjunction.

From an astronomy standpoint, the two biggest planets haven't been this closely aligned in almost 800 years. Since March 4, 1226, which is 794 years ago.

That's a pretty big deal.

But there are a couple of other things about this Great Conjunction that haven't happened in a while from an astrology perspective too:

Great Conjunctions stay in the same element for about 200 years or so. For the last 218 years, they've taken place in earth signs,. However, on December 21, during the Winter Solstice, Jupiter and Saturn will unite in Aquarius, an air sign.
That’s the first time that’s happened in about 600 years.

In this episode, Court looks at the end of one era and the dawn of another.

Jim Dean is the Creative Director of The Haunted Walk, a ghost tour company that operates in three cities in Canada: Kingston, Ottawa, and Toronto.

During Spooky Season, he contacted me about trying The Haunting at Home Paranormal Adventure. I did it with a couple of friends and had a blast!

Now the results are in. I was dying to know about one in particular: The majority of experiments, 74%, were conducted in a house or townhouse. 23% took place in an apartment or a condo. However, regardless of where the experiment was conducted, whether it was a house or an apartment, the percentage of groups reporting activity was the same: 67%.

What was up with that? I said if I got a chance to ask him, I would...so I did!

But we also had a chance to also talk about The Haunted Walk and other activities they offer --or will again once this pandemic gets under control.

Among the other things we talked about was how The Haunting at Home is based on something they do on ghost hunts in haunted places. Including the Laurier House, where they also hold seances like a former Canadian Prime Minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King, did when he lived in the house.

Jim likened it to a real-life Haunted Mansion, and that was all it took. I was sold. Covid Be Gone! I need to take a trip to Canada and see this place for myself!

He also shared a ghost story involving two of the Haunted Walk's tour guides and an apparition at the Black Creek Pioneer Villag. One of the guides and a tour goer saw the woman in period clothing on the boardwalk up ahead of them, but the other guest and guide did not.

I also got a chance to ask him about the Virtual Haunted Campfires they also did during Spooky Season, which I thought was really clever and collaborative.

Jim is a phenomenal (and humble) storyteller. It was a great privilege to talk with him.

I asked a couple of ghoulfriends to try it with me and we had a blast. We also experienced some paranormal activity thanks to the experiments the Haunting at Home adventure guided us through.

Turns out we weren't alone. The Haunted Walk revealed the results from all participants...so far. (At least up through November 15.)

They were crazy interesting...and curious. For example, the majority (74%) of experiments were conducted in a home or townhouse. (Apartments and condos accounted for 23%.)

Yet, the percentage of both groups (be they homeowners or renters) reporting activity was the same: 67%.

Interesting!

Hopefully, we'll get to have Jim on the podcast to discuss the Haunting at Home and its stats.

What she found was both surprising and entertaining. There was "rowdyism" (or, rather, warnings against it), a hermit named Herman, and both goblinish and "ungoblinish" fun.

The Holzer Files season 2 premiers on Travel Channel Thursday, October 29.

I had the chance to talk with Dave Shrader, Cindy Kaza, and Shane Pittman about the season's premiere episode, "Phantom Hand," as well as the season overall.

I also had the chance to ask questions from a couple of friends of mine.

What did Dave have to say about demons and angels?

How does the automatic writing come to Cindy?

The "Phantom Hand" episode is haunted history mixed with true crime. Can we expect to see more of that in the other episodes this season?

What unnerved Shane more: when Cindy said she felt like she was looking through the eyes of a murderer or when Dave assigned him to investigate the pit at the train museum?

The season return of Destination Fear season 2 premieres Saturday, October 24, as part of Travel Channel's Ghostober event.

Court got a chance to talk with the show's stars, Dakota Laden, Chelsea Laden, and Tanner Wiseman, about the rest of the season in general and about a couple of episodes in particular: "Saratoga County Homestead" and "Randolph County Infirmary."

What did Dakota see in the Saratoga County Homestead to make him (a) scream and run, and (b) admit he's not going to get any good brother awards for that behavior, not to mention it's not a good look masculinity-wise?

Is this why Chelsea quipped her goal is to stay fitter and be just a little bit faster than the guys?

What did Dakota say they learned from the homestead's current caretaker? Why does he feel the activity is so aggressive?

Because the activity was so intense and scary would they ever go back to the Saratoga County Homestead?

What happened to Dakota during the interview that scared him and asked if they could change the subject? (It's just after the 17:00 minute mark.)

Does Dakota think the hard challenge he set up for everybody at the Randolph County Infirmary was a bad idea?

Dakota, Chelsea, and Tanner are definitely exploring new heights and facing different fears this go around, and Court had a blast talking with them about it all.

Ghost Nation season 2 premieres Saturday, October 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Travel Channel. I got the chance to talk with two of the show's stars, Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango, about a couple of specific episodes, including the season 2 premiere, "Evil Ink," and the Halloween night crossover special with Amy Bruni and Adam Berry from Kindred Spirits, "Ghost Nation: Reunion in Hell."

What does Tango want more of and says he'll get someday but hasn't yet?

Why does Steve feel maybe we shouldn't be trying to get entities to leave? What sort of things does he suggest people living in haunted places do instead?

Why did Steve say the EMF fluctuation they encountered in the basement at Seaview Terrace in Newport, Rhode Island, was unlike anything he'd ever experienced before? And what mystery did this solve for Tango when I asked about that?

Have they been filming during the COVID-19 pandemic, and if so are they following any specific protocols?

Do they notice any differences between ghosts in wealthy people's houses compared to ordinary people's homes?

I noticed there seemed to be two common themes between the "Evil Ink" and "Reunion in Hell" episodes (both of which I got to screen ahead of time): merged houses and true crime connections. Will viewers see more of that in the rest of season 2? Does the Ghost Nation gang like the intrigue, mystery, and piecing puzzles together aspect of paranormal investigations? What is their favorite part of all of that?

Why is the last stall on the left in Anchorage's Hotel Captain Cook bolted shut? It has to do with a possessive potty poltergeist.

One who can be slightly mischievous and do things like cause people to feel uneasy or flick lights on and off. Or she can break into full poltergeist mode and exhibit paranormal activity like rattling stall walls and grabbing toilet users around the ankles. (Can you imagine?!)

This is the tale of the Captain Cook's possessive potty poltergeist and how management found a way to try and appease her restless spirit while protecting guests at the same time.

It all started with a story Court saw in Willamette Week: "Got a Creepy Old Toy You Need Exorcised From Your House? This Portland Business Will Take It off Your Hands—and Find It a More Loving Home."

Okay, what was that all about? Court had to know more. Especially because the Weird Holidays & Observances page let her know National Doll Day was coming on August 2. Wouldn't it be great to talk with the owners of Unsettling Toy Removal and Rehoming for that?

Yep.

So Court tracked them down, asked if they'd be game for a chat and they said yes.

Brian and Sara could not have been nicer or more interesting either. Unsettling Toys all started as a spoof until Sara surprised Brian on his 50th birthday with a website, business cards and a "Guess what, honey? We're now able to really do this!" And just like that, they were off.

They don't necessarily deal in haunted dolls, though. Or only in dolls for that matter. They remove and rehome toys of any kind that owners find too creepy to keep. Sara and Brian gladly take them in until they can find someone new to adopt them.

But it's not all creepy dolls either. They also have dolls with "good energy" because some people want a doll with a vibe, but with a happier one. They can help make those matches too.

They also have a personal collection of unsettling toys of their own. They were very generous showing some of them to Court, including a Goosebumps-looking ventriloquist doll they call Chappy, and a lion named Winston made out of leather.

Court also learned that clown dolls are Brian's least favorite and the ones he seeks to rehome quickest and that there is such a thing as Doll Disease and it's contagious. (But only spreads from dolls to other dolls so us humans are safe.)

Every time I'm in San Francisco and I find myself anywhere near Fisherman's Wharf, I pay a visit to Laughing Sal at the Musee Mechanique. She terrifies me, yet also fascinates me. As far as I know, she's not haunted.

However, the Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis O. Powell IV, educated me about Sal's east coast twin who lives in the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum in Ocean City, Maryland.

He suggested I check out his post "Saving the living and the dead in Maryland," because he covered the haunted Laughing Sal that lives in the museum.

Since Laughing Sal is six feet tall, I do believe she may be the biggest haunted doll in the world.

Travel Channel's new series, Into the Unknown, premieres on Monday, July 27 at 11 p.m. ET/PT. We had a chance to talk to the show's star, Cliff Simon, and here's what he had to say about:

The paranormal experience he had as a child that has intrigued him ever since.
The multi-faceted life he's led and how it has prepared him for this show, something he's always wanted to do.
Life-threatening moments he's encountered during his life and while filming episodes of Into the Unknown, including a close call with a hungry water moccasin in "The Rougarou" episode in Louisiana, and something that tracked him and his team during "The Brown Mountain Lights" episode in North Carolina. Was it Bigfoot or Dogman or...? He doesn't know, but he readily admits he was afraid.
Testing his limits and his fear of tight spaces in a gator wallow in Louisiana during "The Rougarou" episode, and when he explores a cave in California.
How the only time he thought he might have gone too far and was in over his head was during "The Night Marchers" episode. The local Hawaiin people are reluctant to talk about them because they believe the Night Marchers can kill. Cliff had a "very scary" moment that gave him pause and made him think how this is different than everything else he was investigating on Into the Unknown, because it involved ghosts, which is truly an unknown.
What to do and what you need to ensure you have a successful jaunt into the unknown of your own.

Court sat down and talked with Emerian "Emz" Rich and Naching T. Kassa from HorrorAddicts.net about their latest anthology, Dark Divinations. It contains 14 frightening tales of horror, all with two things in common:

All stories are set in the Victorian era
They all involve some method of divination

It didn't take Court long to realize as she spoke with Emz and Naching that the stories weren't your run-of-the-mill ones you might expect about seances or crystal balls. There are two stories that each deal with those methods of divination, but the authors were very clever and creative about thinking outside of the box.

For instance, two stories Naching used to highlight the unconventional ones found in Dark Divinations included "Of Blood and Bones" by Jeremey Megargee and "The Moat House Cob" by Allan Fisher. One utilizes the method of throwing bones, and the other employs arachnomancy where a spider --or rather its web-- is the seer's tool.

Emz's picks included ones that also had love stories in them: "Copper and Cordite" by Ash Hartwell and "Breaking Bread" by R. L. Merril. Dreams and bread allow the characters to see beyond the present in those.

All stories are dark and a bit Twilight Zone-ish, but there's something for everyone, from magical and thriller to gore and romance.

The other cool thing is they created a tarot card for each story. There are two options to choose from: black and white that you could color yourself if you're so inclined, or hand-painted. They were initially offered for pre-ordered books, but they'll continue selling them until supplies run out.

Have you ever watched ghost hunting shows and wondered if the crew, particularly the cameramen, ever have experiences? Court has. That's why she was excited to learn about The House in Between, a new paranormal documentary from Robot Ninja Media.

The film is produced by Kendall Whelpton and Steve Gonsalves. Kendall was gracious enough to answer Court's email request for more info and a screener. Then when she was bold enough to request an interview, look what happened....She got one!

Steve says this house and the way it's investigated is a paranormal game-changer. Court says it raises the benchmark. It's visually stunning, smart and intriguing. In this interview, Kendall and Steve talk about why that is and what makes this film work.

I got the chance to have an awesome conversation with Dakota Laden, Chelsea Laden, and Tanner Wiseman from Travel Channel's Destination Fear about the second season of their show. I also had a chance to screen the first episode of season 2, where the trio heads to the Nopeming Sanatorium --in the dead of winter.

What did Dakota, Chelsea, and Tanner have to say when I compared Nopeming to its haunted southern cousin, Waverly Hills Sanatorium? Since they were investigating in the middle of winter, the inside of Nopeming was literally frozen.

Did the cold affect the activity there? Or did it just steal energy from them? What else did they have to say about how the time of year either helped or hindered their investigation?

I also noticed Tanner's curious bedtime behavior. What did he have to say about it being something he learned from watching many horror movies and playing into his overall survival strategy?

Other questions that led to fun revelations included one from Priscilla Bettis, who answered a call for questions to ask the Destination Fear team.

She wanted to know would they rather have something thrown at them or have an unseen entity whisper in their ear? How did they answer that?

I also wondered if they're getting desensitized at all after exploring all these haunted places. Is there any place any of them might pick that when they got there they'd say, "Nope. Nuh uh. Not going in there."? Is there any place they've been that they thought was just "eh" on the scary scale and wasn't as bad as they thought --and vice versa: scarier than they expected?

And did they have any favorite episodes this season?

Spoiler Alert! (sort of)

Yes! But none of them shared the same favorite episode/haunted destination.

Dakota said he was partial to Nopeming because that's a haunted place they grew up with. However, the Sheboygan County Asylum, which viewers will see in the season's last episode, was a particularly powerful one. For one, they're the first TV investigators to film there. But for another, Dakota said if there's a season 3 haunted road trip for the Destination Fear cast, he's actually nervous to go back out because of what happened to him in Sheboygan during their sleepover.

Chelsea said her favorite episode was the second one because that's the road trip stop she picked. For that one they head down to Texas and a hospital known for apparitions of nuns.

Tanner's fave episode was also his road trip pick: the Old Montana State Prison. He was intrigued by its amazing history and was excited to get the chance to investigate there.

Also different this season, Dakota wasn't the only one navigating to surprise haunted locations. Chelsea and Tanner each got to pick one too.

However, Chelsea was surprised she was the only one who wanted to go down south in winter.

The boys both stayed north. That made navigating from one to the other even more challenging. Or, as Tanner put it, "They don't have any idea where they're going."

But they have a good time facing their fears once they get there.

They were a really nice bunch to talk with. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed talking with them.

One of the stories that stuck with Court after a jaunt to Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary was when a guard shared an eerie EVP captured by a woman paranormal investigator who had spent the night alone in the Hole. Court didn't know the woman's name, but had thought she'd like to meet her. Court had questions for that lady!

Well, as Fate would have it, during a chat with Kristy Sumner of Soul Sisters Paranormal for the A Haunt Mess podcast Courtney also co-hosts, it came out that Kristy is great friends with that very lady: Miranda Young of Ghost Biker Explorations.

In addition to talking with Miranda about her investigations at Brushy Mountain, Court learned how this intrepid motorcycle riding ghost hunter followed her passions (bikes and the paranormal) and merged them to become Ghost Biker Explorations. But first Court had to know how Miranda had even gotten interested in the paranormal and motorcycles. Both stemmed from a lifelong interest that manifested in childhood.

They also talked trigger objects Miranda is fond of using (including girly mags, which illicit some great interactions), history, and about the importance of pursuing dreams and going after whatever it is that makes your heart beat a little faster.

Court got a chance to talk with former NYPD detective Steve DiSchiavi of Travel Channel's hit show, The Dead Files, about a specific episode airing Thursday, March 5: "Last Call."

Along with his partner, psychic medium Amy Allan, Steve travels to Palatka, Florida, to investigate violent paranormal activity at a downtown bar, Steamboat Willie's. The owners claim all hell broke loose when they began renovations, and they fear the family business is cursed.

Court got a chance to preview the episode in which Amy ends up having some surprising advice not just for the bar's owners, but for the town of Palatka over all.

In addition to talking about the bar's history and Steve's approach to gathering witness information, they also discussed his findings when he researched the town's history, which included finding info about:

Mary Emily Boyd, the woman credited with saving Palatka during the Civil War
William Darrell Lindsey, one of most prolific serial killers in Florida history

What connection --if any-- do they have with the bar's paranormal activity?

Speaking of activity, Steve revealed some surprising information when Court asked if anything happened in the bar while he was talking to its owners, Tiffany or her husband, Johnny. Find out why he leaves that end of things to Amy. Mostly by choice, but also because he may be what's known as a "diffuser."

It started with a burning bible...

Ghost Adventures fans may know the house that Keith Linder once lived in, the Bothell Hell Hell House, from the "Demons in Seattle" episode. They may even recognize Keith's name from the episode. He was on the show, as he was living in the house at the time the episode was filmed with his then girlfriend, Tina.

Did Ghost Adventures do a thorough investigation of his house, though? According to Keith, no.

Worse, Zak and crew didn't catch any paranormal activity in the five hours they spent investigating the house. This caused GA fans to ridicule Keith and Tina as frauds, fakes and worse.

However, as Keith put it during our chat, "Absence of evidence doesn't mean evidence is absent."

He had other teams who came in and did much more extensive investigations. One team even stayed up to three and a half weeks with Keith in the home.

What did they find? For one thing, an impressive amount of class A EVPs. Over 424.

But that's not all.

In this episode we discuss other findings, Keith's first book about his haunting, as well as his follow up book, which answers three questions his first book did not:

Why is the home haunted?
What was the black oily substance on his walls?
Was Keith followed when he moved out of the home?

It was a very interesting conversation with a man about a house and a haunting that's making paranormal researchers rethink the way poltergeist hauntings are defined.

One thing is clear after this conversation with Keith, and he put it best: We are not at the top of the spiritual food chain.

After a bit of an awkward start, I ended up having a great chat with Steve Shippy about his new series, Haunting in the Heartland. It premieres on Travel Channel Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

(Awkward, by the way, on my part.)

When I finally got warmed up and could speak coherently, we talked about some of the places he went while investigating this season, including:

Merrill, Michigan
Greeneville, Tennessee
Atchison, Kansas
Malvern, Iowa

(But he also went to Hebron, Kentucky, and Holly Springs, Mississippi.)

He doesn't give away a lot of spoilers --well, he doesn't give away any spoilers.

But he does share a few teasers, such as:

What his most memorable episode was
Why he would be okay never investigating the Sallie House again
What his main focus is for Haunting in the Heartland.

If you're familiar with his Haunted Saginaw series on Amazon, Steve says the format and --most importantly-- the heart and compassion from that series translates to a Haunting in the Heartland.

Mission accomplished. We now know that, yes, there was a listing in the 1989 Guinness Book of World Records mentioning why Pluckley in Kent is generally thought to be the most haunted village in England. Guinness themselves replied to our inquiry.

We also learned why such a listing is no longer acceptable for their publication.

We had ordered a copy of the 1989 version in case Guinness didn't write back. It came after they did, but we were still curious to see the entry for ourselves. That's when we found two other listings:

One about extra-sensory perception.
The other about most durable ghosts. (Did you know ghosts are not immortal and have half lives?)

But to spice up the episode even more, we threw in the largest human centipede and info on how and where to conjure the devil. (It involves dancing naked around a certain bush.)

Dwight and Rhonda Hull are the husband and wife team behind Beelieve Paranormal, which has hosted the A Haunting in the Desert paranormal conference in Tombstone, Arizona, the past several years. (For 2020, the dates are May 15-17.)

But their paracon is unique.

For one thing, it's much more intimate than most. Space is limited. Only so many tickets are sold. They do this purposely to give people a chance to have the best chance of connecting not only with like-minded para peeps, but also with the other side too.

For another, have you ever heard of another conference that does Story Time with Ghost Children?

The conference also offers a lot of what other paracons do, such as:

Investigations (this year's will include the Buford House, Courtland ghost town, and Wyatt Earp House and Gallery)
Lectures
A celebrity panel (including, Willie Aames, Jennifer Runyon and Mr. Haunted Jimmy Petonito)
A smudging ceremony (will the deer show up again this year?)

The Hulls are not only paranormal investigators, but also psychic mediums and authors. Dwight also possesses the gift of being a pet psychic and animal communicator.

The Hulls came to Court's attention when Rhonda reached out to ask if A Haunting in the Desert could be included in the Paracons & Horror Fests listings. After seeing not only what all the con had to offer, but learning a little about the Hulls themselves, Court wanted to know more. She was delighted when they accepted her invitation to chat.

Travel Channel's new eight-part investigative-adventure series, Expedition Bigfoot, premiers on Sunday, December 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. An elite team of skilled searchers spent three weeks in a remote, 90,000-acre swath of land in central Oregon hunting for Bigfoot.

Court had the chance to talk to the team, including:

She asked about their investigation, how their algorithm approach shaped their search, and what viewers can expect (*spoiler*** lots of compelling evidence).

Who among them were Bigfoot believers before this experience and who weren't? Did their search change anybody's mind? And what's really out there? Are we any closer to knowing?

When I wrote a post referencing (ogling) Rick McCallum back in 2011 (see "Look Who the Ghost Adventures Crew is Hunting with Now"), I never, ever thought he'd see it.

I'd been excited about the Ghost Adventures episode featuring the Hollywood Ghost Hunters, because it was comprised in part of Kane Hodder ("Jason," Friday the 13th) and R.A. Mihailoff ("Leatherface," Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

However, joining them was this stuntman named Rick McCallum. (He's actually the founder of HGH.)

Instead of focusing on the other two like I expected, I found myself enamored with Rick. I said as much in my post. Again, never, ever thinking he'd see it.

But he did. And he was very gracious about it...even if still he teases me about it every chance he gets. (You'll hear reference to it.)

That's right. Teases me. Because something else happened that I never, ever thought --or even imagined-- would: not only did I get to meet him in person, but we became friends.

Rick's good looks may have been what first caught my eye, but now having had the chance to get to know him, he's more than just a "hubba hubba hunk." (My original reaction to him.)

He's got a wickedly delightful sense of humor and is a fantastic storyteller. Bonus: he hunts ghost.

We talk about all of that, as well as his jaunt to Scotland and all the ghost hunting and haunted places he visited while there.

As usual, we had a blast talking to each other, but it was also two hours long! That's why I've broken it up into two parts.

A YouTube video about the Most Haunted Village in Britain piqued Courtney's curiosity. The video was about Pluckley and it claimed that the Guinness Book of Records named it the Most Haunted Village in 1989.

Say what? Guinness has a category like that? That deserved further investigation.

Room 411 in the Pera Palace Hotel is christened the Agatha Christie room. It's thought that's the room the author stayed in while she wrote Murder on the Orient Express.

In 1979 Warner Brothers released the movie Agatha. It was a fictional account of the 11 days Agatha Christie disappeared in 1926.

Warner Brothers hired Hollywood medium Tamara Rand, who held a seance and claimed she made contact with the famous mystery writer. Contact that may hold the key to Christie’s disappearance.

Well, it did hold a key --literally. On March 7, 1979, upon instructions from Rand, a search beneath the floorboards turned up a key Rand claimed would open a box containing a diary that explained Christie’s 11 missing days.

Was a box ever found? Was it all just an elaborate publicity stunt? Does a diary even exist?

It's all part of the mystery of the Pera Palace Hotel.

Courtney had a great long talk with Alexandra Holzer, but she pulled a Whoopsie. (Court, that is. Not Alexandra.) She's still new to podcasting nuances and was using an app for the first time to record the call. She was so excited to talk to Alexandra that she forgot a crucial step: to merge the calls.

Thus, most of the interview wasn't recorded.

However, some was. She noticed her mistake about 45 minutes into the call. She still caught about 20 minutes of it though. Enough to convey the essence of their chat and what a great conversationalist Alexandra is.

There were surprises, revelations, and even an impromptu intuitive reading. Court does her best to relate what she could of the conversation before playing the part of the interview she did record.

At first Court was excited to talk to Alexandra because she was Hans Holzer's daughter. What a cool claim to fame Alexandra has that her dad was a paranormal pioneer and she's a second generation ghost hunter.

However, during the call, Court felt a kindred connection with Alexandra and appreciated her special blend of sass, smarts, wit, kindness, compassion and knowing.

She wishes she had used the app properly so everyone could hear what a great call this was. However, the flavor still comes through in the part she did manage to catch.
