I had not heard of LaVonte Stewart until the other day, and then we had a chance to interview him and hear his story. His organization, the Lost Boyz was founded in 2009 by LaVonte Stewart, an area resident, who felt a call to action after witnessing antisocial behavioral patterns increasingly impact local youth. Having experienced firsthand the profound impact baseball can have on a child’s development, LaVonte rallied the community around organized youth baseball. In 2014, Lost Boyz observed this persistent pattern affecting young ladies as well. They extended our service to include girls. Their programs include both girls and boys.

Ending 2020 on a high note, Club 400 had the Razz Prize Night. What is a Razz you ask? A Razz is like a drawing where you can buy tickets and have a chance to win over 100 prizes. A good friend of Club 400, Mike Gomoll is the guest for our show titled "Joey's Song". Joey's Song was started in 2010 following the death of 5 year old Joey Gomoll. Joey suffered from a rare and debilitating form of epilepsy known as Dravet Syndrome. Dravet's caused persistent seizures which were never able to be controlled through medications leading to severe learning disabilities. While Dravet's robbed Joey of the ability to speak, Joey remained a happy and fun loving child. He was happiest when music was playing, allowing him to hum, drum and sing in his own way. To be present when music was playing meant only one thing, that Joey would soon have you dancing and enjoying the music with him.

It has been the strangest year ever, but we are 6 days away from the start of the 2020 baseball season. After several months of being pessimistic, it appears that at least on TV, we will finally be able to watch meaningful baseball. As Cubs fans, we are all excited to see how new manager David Ross pulls this team together and get them off to a fast start. With a 60 game season, every game is going to be critical this year.
It has been 3.5 months since our last podcast. It has been 3.5 months since our last live baseball game. It has been 3.5 months since Club 400 has been hosting a party. Since the 1980's there has been one voice in Chicago that is more recognizable than all the rest. He has been a long time singer for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Wolves. In January 1991, he sang the National Anthem at the NHL All-Star Game and was nearly drowned out by the cheering crowd. He often sings with his talented wife Kathleen. Now he adds to the list of accomplishments and venues a performance at Club 400. Ladies and gentlemen, it is our honor to present Mr. Wayne Messmer.

George Castle is an American freelance sports journalist and author, based in Chicago, Illinois.
Castle's most frequent assignment has been as the Chicago Cubs beat writer for The Times of Northwest Indiana. He spent many years as a sportswriter for Chicago's Lerner Newspapers.
He has written several books about the Cubs and general baseball history, including:
In his latest book “The 1969 Cubs,” co-written by Cubs Hall of Famer, Fergie Jenkins and longtime Chicago sportswriter George Castle, looks at the team from the perspective of that time frame, how the city and the fanbase got tremendously excited about the prospect of getting to the World Series. Remember, this was the first year of divisional play where teams would have to win a best-of-five League Championship Series to get to the World Series.
In The Legendary Harry Caray: Baseball's Greatest Salesman, Don Zminda delivers the first full-length biography of Caray since his death in 1998. It includes details of Caray's orphaned childhood, his 25 years as the voice of the St. Louis Cardinals, his tempestuous 11 years broadcasting games for the Chicago White Sox, and the 16 years he broadcast for the Chicago Cubs while also becoming a nationally-known celebrity. Interviews with significant figures from Caray's life are woven throughout, from his widow Dutchie and grandson Chip to broadcasters Bob Costas, Thom Brennaman, Dewayne Staats, Pat Hughes, and more.
Caray was known during his final years as a beloved, often-imitated grandfather figure with the Cubs, but the story of his entire career is much more nuanced and often controversial. Featuring new information on Caray's life--including little-known information about his firing by the Cardinals and his feuds with players, executives, and fellow broadcasters--this book provides an intimate and in-depth look at a broadcasting legend.
Originally known as “The Big Reveal - Part 2” this show gives you some of the details of the upcoming event of the summer - Club 400 presents Contreras and Zambrano.
Willson Contreras was promoted to the Chicago Cubs on June 17, 2016 and what a time to make it to the show. On June 19th, he hit a two-run homer on the first pitch of his first major league at-bat and has never looked back since. He was voted as the starting catcher in the 2018 All-Star Game.
Carlos Zambrano, nicknamed “Big Z’ or “El Toro”, pitched for the Chicago Cubs from 2001 to 2012. Zambrano had six pitches, including a heavy sinker, cutter, splitter, four-seam fastball, slider and curveball. Zambrano was the only National League pitcher to win at least 13 games in each year from 2003 to 2008. In 2006, he became the first player from Venezuela to lead the National League in wins.
Enjoy Dos Hombres

A bobblehead, also known as a nodder, wobbler or bobble head, is a type of collectable doll. Its head is often oversized compared to its body. Instead of a solid connection, its head is connected to the body by a spring or hook in such a way that a light tap will cause the head to bobble, hence the name.
Today we bobble over to the world’s only Bobblehead Hall of Fame & Museum. Featuring the largest bobblehead collection, exhibits, store, event space & more, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum is fun for everyone! Not just for sports fans, the Museum also features movie, TV, pop-culture, vintage and thousands of other unique bobbleheads.
Our guests are Phil Skylar who is the owner of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum and Crawly who is the Club 400 Bobblehead expert.
The 1989 Chicago Cubs season was one of the most exciting in the past 50 years. Highlighting the season was the Cubs second National League Eastern Division championship with a record of 93-69. The Cubs had all-star seasons from Ryne Sandberg, Andre Dawson, Rick Sutcliffe and Mitch Williams. But the catalysts of the team were rookie outfielders Jerome Walton and Dwight Smith. In addition to setting the table for the other great hitters in the lineup, they finished first and second in rookie of the year voting. If you can't remember who won, don't worry, they will tell you. This version of the show is uncensored so beware!

Also, with the big Ben Zobrist to Club 400 even coming up, we had the opportunity to hear from Mike Alejandro who has generously offered to purchase and cook all of the food for the event, which makes that much more for for the Keltner family. Mike owns Beaners Mexican BBQ in Hebron. Finally, as we all get ready for opening day, we have some Danny Rockett classics to get you in the mood!

Having lived in Wrigleyville over the past decade, my experiences are loosely based on the movie The Wolf of Wall Street. Having formerly worked in the financial industry, having an equal passion for baseball, having the best team in baseball as well as my love for going out, having fun, being social, loud and energetic-- it was these factors that gave birth to The Wolf of Wrigley parody.
The Wolf of Wrigley exists for one reason. It's an opportunity for people to let loose and have fun in a safe and respectful manner in the greatest city in the world with the best baseball team in the world!!
The Wolf of Wrigley is more than just a saying. It's a lifestyle. It's an attitude. It's an experience. Being a "Wolf" means being a leader. You're a type A personality. An alpha male or alpha female. You're loud, energetic, driven, motivated, passionate and fearless. You're a go-getter, aggressive and you're a closer. You have that cut throat mentality. Basically it means you're the "top dog" and that you're the best at what you do!
Growing up across the street from Wrigley Field, in 1971, is where it started for Captain Cubbo.
His parents owned the property until 1986. During that time, he played a lot of baseball, loving the Chicago Cubs. Knowing that WGN would broadcast the games, and that it would be seen on the island, his dad decided to show his pride by displaying a Puerto Rican flag on our three-flat unit.
There were about 85 percent Puerto Ricans that lived in the neighborhood, so it was easy playing baseball with so many kids. Weather permitting, they always had enough kids to play a game. From the red-top parking lot to the corner of Addison and Sheffield — those were their baseball diamonds.
Tonight we are launching a special edition of Club 400 Podcast. Our guests to help get us ready for spring training are Jason Peters and Dave Dew. Both have been in Club 400 since the beginning. Jason is manning the Club 400 tent in Mesa for the entire spring training. For those who are going to Mesa, this quick special show is to help get you psyched for spring training. If you are not going, you can live vicariously through Club 400.
Have you heard of Tim Sheridan? Have you been to spring training? Tim has been the PA announcer in Mesa since 1984. He worked with Harry Caray, he shot video that no one has ever seen, he has an awesome website called boys of spring and he is sharing his experiences with the world of Cub fans through "Cub Talks". Tim is a great guy and great guide to spring training.
The history of autographs goes back to 3100 BC. The history of kids getting autographs from baseball players goes back to the beginnings of the game. In the past 25 years, autographs or "graphing" has become a hobby for more than 10 million people and a multi-billion dollar business. On this show, we have an expert at getting Chicago Cubs autographs and you will be surprised at what it takes to get the best autographs - hard work and time. David Truitt shares great stories and tips for getting autographs for your collection. If you are going to Cubs Spring Training, this is a must listen.
What do you get when you combine former Cubs Randy Hundley, Ray Burris and Joe Pepitone? Total chaos! If you had the opportunity to be at the party at Club 400 with these three former Cubs, you know (but will want to hear it again). If you missed it, we have the uncensored Q & A for you on Club 400 Podcast. These three guys whose collective careers spanned from 1966-1979 share stories (some never heard before) of the Cubs in the 1960's and 1970's. It is the stories that make the game so great!
On Club 400 Podcast, we have four attendees from Randy Hundley's Cubs Fantasy Camp. We have three veterans and one rookie to break down the experience of a lifetime. Mike Gomoll is a three time participant, the brothers McVicar are 2018 alumni and Eric Hartmann is the rookie, who just returned from camp. If you are 40 or older, this is a bucket list - opportunity of a lifetime. If you can swing it, you will want to consider after hearing this show.
This show has a little bit of everything as the boys discuss upcoming Club 400 events, the Cubs Convention, and much more. Make sure you have a #2 pencil to jot down some details, because baseball is back and Club 400 is the place to be for the 2019 season!
Ronnie "Woo Woo" Wickers (born October 31, 1941) is a longtime Chicago Cubs fan and local celebrity in the Chicago area. He is known to Wrigley Field visitors for his idiosyncratic cheers at baseball games, generally punctuated with an exclamatory "Woo!" (e.g., "Cubs, woo! Cubs, woo! Big-Z, woo! Zambrano, woo! Cubs, woo!") Longtime Cubs announcer Harry Caray dubbed Wickers "Leather Lungs" for his ability to shout for hours at a time.
Tonight, Club 400 releases our last podcast of the year. It’s a special one because our guest is special! A unique, kind and loving person with a unique story. A gift/talent not found until later in his life.
He eventually found his calling at the age of 29 and has since skyrocketed to the top. He’s humble and cares about others and is not afraid to admit he is not a perfect individual - he is just like you and me.
Although, we all try to portray we are perfect, John discusses inner, outer scars and flaws. Instead of hiding these issues he shares them to help others. All he really wants to do is make a difference in people lives.
We love this guy! We really do. We don’t hang out often but when we see him we just want to give him a big hug and tell him we love him.
Our goal is to get him back this year at Club 400! Ladies and gentlemen one of the best John Vincent
Here is a show about a classic Cubs fan, who until recently used a flip phone. Now he creates video recaps after all the games and nearly 3,000 people get to enjoy his heart, soul and passion for the Cubbies. If you ever question his fandom, check out the tattoo on his left hand. Neal is one of the nicest guys you will meet and is sure to put a smile on your face.
He is the first to ask a question, he was Miguel Montero's ring bearer, he takes the best You Tube videos at every event, he is an esteemed member of Club 400 - let us introduce to the world - Paul Dzien aka Crawly. There are so many paths we could have gone down with Crawly, but we chose to discuss the Cubs Convention. If you are new to the Cubs Convention, Crawly explains how to make the most of your experience.
Miguel Montero was the quintessential Chicago Cub. Acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015, he appeared to be the all-star catcher the Cubbies were missing. Then along came Willson Contreras. During the 2017 season, Miguel was shipped to the Toronto Blue Jays. Guess what that makes him? A 2016 World Champion. Miggy was recently a guest at Club 400 and a guest on Chicago Cubs Club 400 Podcast. You will find him to be authentic, honest, funny, emotional but most of all appreciative of the love he received at Wrigley Field or anytime he was in Chicago. This podcast is a little over an hour, but worth every minute of it.
Wes Jameson grew up a Cubs fan thanks to WGN. As he became older, he realized he wasn't the only one. Eventually, he started a facebook group called "Cubs Fans in Oklahoma". Today there are more than 3,600 members of the group. Wes and the Cubs Fans in Oklahoma have organized Cubs viewing parties, fundraisers and this year will be hosting a party during opening weekend in Arlington, Texas. Wes is famous in Club 400 circles as he created the motto "Cubs Fans Helping Cubs Fans".
Did you collect baseball cards when you were a kid? Or maybe you still do. On this show, we hear the story of Chicago Cubs Fan, Club 400 member and the person who is trying to do something that has never been done before. You may be able to help with his quest. Check out our show with Beau Thompson.
Season Two of Chicago Cubs 400 Podcast is ready now! Stu and William talk about everything new, everything old and what is coming on the podcast. Check it out and binge our previous episodes as well.
Al Yellon has been following the Chicago Cubs since the 1960's. He has seen a lot during that time. After college, he moved back to Chicago and worked as a television director for Chicago TV before launching Bleed Cubbie Blue. He has an amazing story, so check it out!
For nearly three decades Jerry Pritikin has been converting baseball fans to strict Chicago Cubs fans. On any given game day, you will find him walking the Friendly Confines wearing his signature propeller beanie and spreading the good word of baseball..
And his 10 Cub-mandments.
“I am thy fan of the Chicago Cubs. I shall not root for another team before thee,” he says. “Of course not take Ernie Banks name in vain, that’s common sense. Honor thy trinity of Tom Rickets, Theo Epstein and Joe Maddon.”
He is not just a lifelong fan. Jerry himself is arguably a Cubs institution.
From NBC Chicago -
When Alex Pancoe successfully beat brain cancer nine years ago, he marked his victory in a death-defying and incredibly Chicago way.
He embarked on a journey to climb the seven summits - the highest mountains on each of the seven continents – and fly a Chicago Cubs “W” flag at their peaks. And he did it all to help children battling cancer.
Each time the expert-level climber summits, he raises money for brain tumor research and kids at Lurie Children’s Hospital.
“Everyone [at Lurie Children’s Hospital] is climbing their own metaphorical Everest,” Pancoe said. “I don’t consider myself a very special guy, I’m just a hard worker. So, if I can climb Everest, I’d like to think it inspires people.”
Now Alex joins us on Club 400 Radio!
Die-hard Cub fans Becky Sarwate and Randy Richardson interviewed a diverse collection of some of the team’s most famous fans: actors, comedians, broadcasters, musicians, restauranteurs, athletes, journalists. Even those who are ubiquitous precisely because of their fandom. Cubsessions tells the story of divergent life paths – the roads taken, the failures experienced, and the successes reached – and how those paths all come together for a collective passion.
He was a member of the 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs. His story is one of the most inspiring baseball and friendship stories you will ever hear. His personality is nothing short of awesome. He is The Stringbean Slinger - ladies and gentlemen, Carl "CJ" Edwards, Jr.
After the announcement over the weekend that the Cubs magazine Vine Line would be discountinued and the dust settled, we decided we needed "The Godfather of Vine Line" as our next guest. Bob Ibach, a card carrying member of Club 400, was also the person who started Vine Line 33 years ago while he was the PR Director of the Cubs. Here is the real story behind Vine Line.
You've heard his music, maybe you've heard his podcast, now hear the story behind the man. Mr. Danny Rockett is on Club 400 Radio...check it out.
Who is the "The Pink Hat Guy" behind home plate at Wrigley Field? And why does he keep wearing that loud hat and green sweatshirt?
It's Jim Anixter ... and he just wants his wife to know he actually went to the ballgame.
"It's so my wife can see I'm really at the ballpark and I'm not fooling around," said a laughing Anixter.
Mike North is a Chicago sports radio powerhouse. He was one of the original personalities on The Score and a co-host of the Monsters in the Morning. Mike's personality takes over any room he steps into. For William and Stu, it was surreal to be in the same studio of one of their sports heroes growing up. Ladies and Gentlemen, would you welcome please, Mike North.
Two stars from the 1984 Cubs were the most recent guests at Club 400. The Q&A was hosted by Club 400 Radio. Enjoy!
