We begin the third part of the Creed by affirming: “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.” The Spirit is called “holy” because He proceeds from the Father and is a source of sanctification in the faithful. The title “Lord” affirms divinity, since its application derives from the use of “Yahweh” in the Old Testament. Thus, when the Church applies the title “Lord” to the Holy Spirit, she says that the Holy Spirit is truly God, co-equal with the Father and the Son.We also profess that the Holy Spirit is the “giver of life”. For the ancients, breath in the body (which is what “spirit” literally means) was the sign of life. Then it came to mean the source or principle of life. God’s Spirit was involved in the production of all life in the world as we read in Genesis (1:2): “the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.” It is the Spirit that gives life, both physical and spiritual. To have eternal life a man must be born “of water and the Spirit” (Jn 3:5). According to St. Paul, “the Spirit brings life” (2 Cor 3:6). Since it is the Holy Spirit who pours out charity in the hearts of the faithful (Gal 5:5), he is the source of all true life in God. So in the Creed, we proclaim our belief that the Holy Spirit is “the giver of life”.

“Lord, if it is You,” Peter replied, “command me to come to You on the water.” “Come”, said Jesus. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”…We believe Jesus allowed this to happen so that it could be written in the Gospels because He knew it perfectly describes what we go through when we want to trust Him, but our fears and doubts consume us. Faith is the willingness to walk on the water or to persevere in the face of a terrible situation that seemingly has no end in sight, and which we have no idea how we’ll handle on our own. That’s what Peter walking on the water represents. Trust is the actual walking on the water. It’s proving that our faith is real by putting it into action.

In Jesus’ day, the word lord was often used as a title of respect toward earthly authorities; when the leper called Jesus “Lord” in Matthew 8:2, he showed Jesus respect as a healer and teacher (see also Matthew 8:25 and 15:25).However, after the resurrection, the title “Lord,” as applied to Jesus, became much more than a title of honour or respect. Saying, “Jesus is Lord,” became a way of declaring Jesus’ deity. It began with Thomas’ exclamation when Jesus appeared to the disciples after His resurrection: “Thomas said to Him, ‘My Lord and my God!’” (John 20:28). From then on, the apostles’ message was that Jesus is Lord, meaning “Jesus is God.” Peter’s sermon on the Day of Pentecost contained that theme: “Let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah” (Acts 2:36). Later, in Cornelius’s house, Peter declared that Jesus is “Lord of all” (Acts 10:36). To say that “Jesus is Lord” means that Jesus is God. Jesus has “all authority in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18). He is “our only Sovereign and Lord” (Jude 1:4). He is, in fact, the Lord of lords (Revelation 17:14).
“‘You are the God who sees me.’ She also said, ‘Have I truly seen the One who sees me?’” Genesis 16:13b (NLT)His name is El Roi, the God who sees.The Lord revealed this name to a woman named Hagar in the Bible. She was an Egyptian servant who worked for a barren woman named Sarah. Sarah decided to have a child by asking her husband to sleep with Hagar. Sarah then mistreated pregnant Hagar to the point that she ran away to the desert.We can surely understand Hagar’s urge to run away. We have felt it many times. But through the name El Roi, we discover that in our lowest moments, someone sees us. God sees our pain. He hears our cries. We’re never alone because we serve a God who sees us. We can rest knowing God is never unaware of what we are going through. He is the all-seeing nurturing Father.
BackgroundThe Nicene Creed, also called the Nicaeno-Constantinopolitan Creed, is a statement of the orthodox faith of the early Christian church in opposition to certain heresies, especially Arianism. These heresies, which disturbed the church during the fourth century, concerned the doctrine of the trinity and of the person of Christ. Both the Greek (Eastern) and the Latin (Western) church held this creed in honor, though with one important difference: the Western church insisted on the inclusion of the phrase "and the Son" (known as the "filioque") in the article on the procession of the Holy Spirit; this phrase still is repudiated by the Eastern Orthodox church. In its present form this creed goes back partially to the Council of Nicea (A.D. 325) with additions by the Council of Constantinople (A.D. 381). It was accepted in its present form at the Council of Chalcedon in 451, but the "filioque" phrase was not added until 589. However, the creed is in substance an accurate and majestic formulation of the Nicene faith. This translation of the Greek text was approved by the CRC Synod of 1988.
The great thing about God’s unconventional battle strategies is that they’re really all about Him. He does the wonders, gets the glory, and displays His power, authority, humour, creativity, etc. We are simply invited through faith and obedience to join the wild ride and revel in His victories. For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be angry as in the Valley of Gibeon—That He may do His work, His awesome work, And bring to pass His act, His unusual act. Isaiah 28:21
Romans 16 is the final passage in Paul's long letter to the Christians in Rome. It contains four sections: his greetings to specific people in Rome, a quick and urgent warning about the danger of false teachers, greetings from those with him in Corinth, and a final hymn of praise to God called a doxology.In keeping with the point of this letter, his doxology praises the God who has revealed the long-hidden mystery of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul calls it his gospel, making clear to the Romans that they—and we—should hold his teaching in this letter as the authoritative truth about Jesus. The final words of Paul's majestic letter about God's grace and forgiveness for all who come to Him by faith in Jesus declare that God be glorified forever through Jesus Christ

Romans 4 is part of Paul’s extended description, of how Abraham is exemplary of the fact that both Gentiles and Jews are brought into a right relationship with God by faith in God’s saving work in Christ, rather than by observing the Law. This affirms that there is only one God who deals with all people fairly.
Romans 3: 9 -10; 22a - 239 What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. 10 As it is written:“There is no one righteous, not even one;There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 2 springs a trap on any religious person who read Paul's lists of sins at the end of Romans 1 and thinks it was not about them. Paul calls them out for making themselves judges when they are also guilty. He shows that God will judge everyone, including those under the law, based on their works. This prefaces this letter's theme of salvation by grace, through faith, rather than by works. Many benefits come with having the law, but only if those under the law keep it. Jewishness—circumcision—must be an inner state, not just an outer one.
Romans 1:18-19; 28-32New International Version18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. An Introduction to the Book of RomansRomans 1:1-7 in its short seven verses is a succinct Soteriology (doctrine of salvation) reminding the Jews and Gentiles in Rome of God’s saving plan accomplished in Jesus Christ. This saving plan of God is for Jew and Gentile followers of Christ as ‘gospel’ or good news (1:1-3). Paul grounds his narrative summary of God’s salvation in the Jewish biblical tradition connecting it with King David and the Jewish prophetic tradition (1:4-5). Salvation, Paul reminds the Christian community in Rome, is incarnated, or given human reality, in the person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. For followers of Christ, the meaning and the power of what it means to be saved through Jesus Christ is shown in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth who is proclaimed by His followers as Christ (the one who saves) Lord and Son of God (1:4). Members of the Christian community in Rome (and Christians today) are to manifest the grace of the salvation they have received living as faithful followers of Christ (1:5 ‘obedience of faith’, ‘belonging’ and ‘apostleship’ - i.e. missionary outreach to others.

Jesus was born to serve. He showed us how to serve those in His ‘inner circle,’ His twelve disciples. What did He do to show His love? He humbly served His men, by washing the disciples’ feet – this was taking the place of a servant in its lowest form. As He prepared Himself for the cross in the upper room at the last supper, surrounded by those He loved, He readied them for his death. John 13:1 says, “Having loved his own who were in the world, He now showed them the full extent of his love.”
Jesus was more than just a great teacher and a strong moral influence on the people who crowded around Him long ago. His power to heal demonstrated His divine identity and intended mission. With compassion and dignity, Jesus brought health and wholeness to the sick and suffering. People who encountered Jesus were never the same again.May you encounter Jesus, the Healer today.
There have been numerous messiah figures throughout history, but only Jesus was the Son of God who came to seek and save the lost and provide the way to eternal life with His Father in Heaven.When Christians call the Savior “Jesus Christ,” they are really saying “Jesus the Messiah” or “Jesus the Anointed One.” Christ is not His last name! Christ is His title, meaning He was sent by God, divinely appointed, to be the Deliverer and King of His people.
Jesus did not go to heaven after His earthly ministry and “take a break” from His role as eternal Shepherd to His people. “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life” (Romans 5:10, emphasis added). If when humble, despised, dying, and dead, He had the power to accomplish so great a work as reconciling us to God, how much more may we expect that He will be able to keep us now that He is a living, exalted, and triumphant Redeemer, raised to life and interceding on our behalf before the throne (Romans 8:34).

Jealousy and envy are soul-enemies, and Scripture warns us against them over and over. We’re told that jealousy is a fruit of the flesh (Galatians 5:21), an antonym of love (1 Corinthians 13:4), a symptom of pride (1 Timothy 6:4), a catalyst for conflict (James 3:16), and a mark of unbelievers (Romans 1:29).So what does killing jealousy actually look like? Why disciple making?
It is a matter of our nature. We make disciples because it is at the heart of who we are as the people of God. It is to be obedient to Jesus. We are to make disciples because Jesus told us to do it. It is so we can imitate Jesus. He did it. The early church did it. And we're supposed to do it. It is to help people avoid darkness. The only true way to know the light of life is to personally know the Author of life. It is for the glory of God. The act of making a disciple is one of the great ways that we make Jesus famous. It is how we lift Him up as most important.

Self-control helps us to resist temptation and avoid conforming to the things of this world. It guides our decisions, and it correlates with how we show the other fruits in our lives.
For example, forbearance, or patience, requires self-control. Self-control can be applied to all of the fruits of the Spirit in the same way it is applied to forbearance.
Displaying self-control is often a matter of responding rather than reacting. When we react to a situation, we let our emotions take control. We are more likely to become defensive and say hurtful things. Responding, however, involves developing a thoughtful response that is guided by reason more than emotions.
As Christians, our responses to situations are to be guided by the fruits of the Spirit.

Moses didn’t exactly see himself as being a spokesperson for God. When God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses’ first reaction was disbelief. Even when God reassured him, Moses still begged for God to send someone else. To date, Moses didn’t have the greatest résumé to become God’s spokesperson. Raised as a prince of Egypt while his fellow Israelites laboured as slaves, Moses had killed a man and then had to flee Egypt. He spent the next 40 years as a shepherd in the wilderness and, by his own admittance, was “slow of speech and of tongue” (Exod. 4:10). Now, at age 80, he’s not quite the man you would think of to fulfill the duties God laid out before him. But this is just one of many examples showing that God’s ways are not our ways. Countless times in the Bible we see that God uses the most unlikely people to accomplish the most extraordinary things. As far as God was concerned, Moses was just the man for the job, proving that God does not call the qualified, but He surely does qualify the called.
What Is the Power of Thanksgiving?Gratitude changes our attitudes and our actions. It changes how we live. This is the power of living a life of thanks; of gratitude for our blessings, whether those blessings are great or small. This is the power of Thanksgiving.
The human body is an intricate and interconnected wonder. Scientists and biologists are still discovering new wonders about how and why things work the way they do. There are whole systems in place like the nervous system and respiratory system where different parts of the body and organs interact to accomplish specific tasks often without your knowledge. Paul draws on this idea to show the church that each individual member is needed and part of the interconnected and intricate wonder that is the body of Christ, the church. Each part of the body, when working properly will build up the body in love (Ephesians 4:16).
Out of His deep love for you and me — His profound yearning to see us redeemed from spiritual death and its eternal consequences and to reconcile us to Himself — Jesus was willing to leave His majestic realm of glory to enter the world of humanity. He came down to our level so He could become an effective High Priest on our behalf. Shedding all His visible attributes of deity that were too much for man’s flesh to endure, Jesus clothed Himself in human flesh and was manifested as a man on the earth.All of this required the greatest humility ever witnessed since the creation of the world.
Philippians 2:5-8New International Version5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." (Matthew 5:5 NIV)Gentleness is a strong hand with a soft touch. It is a tender, compassionate approach toward others’ weaknesses and limitations.Unfortunately, too many people equate gentle with weak. In fact, the reverse is true. Gentleness does not mean weakness. It can also be defined as courage. The courage to stand for what is right and the strength to fight for the right.
The strength of any building is determined by the strength of its foundation. The stronger the foundation, the stronger the building. No building can be stronger than its foundation. Until you build a strong spiritual capacity, your life cannot be strong. Building spiritual capacity is a non-negotiable assignment, if we must make an impact in any field of endeavour. We never see an impactful life which is without a cost. Most of God’s people have been given some spiritual assignment but until the capacity to bear is in place, there will be no actualization.
According to the Bible, the peace of God, “which transcends all understanding,” is the harmony and calmness of body, mind, and spirit that supersedes earthly circumstances; a tranquil state of appreciation and faith when we submit to and trust the commandments of God and Christ. It requires a mixture of humility and courage to experience God’s peace, seeking beyond the mere abilities of our own understanding. To know God is to know peace; no God, no peace.
As a Christian, it is important to be faithful to God. It is one thing to simply believe in Him, but another to be faithful to Him. When we are truly faithful to God, this shapes the way we live. Faithfulness requires us to submit our ways to God. It comes from a place of realizing that we are in need of a Saviour and that He is in control of our lives. We are to be faithful to God because He is faithful to us.
God is faithful, and we are called to walk by faith and not by sight. (2 Cor. 5:7). Despite the evolving and unstable seasons that life brings, we are called to trust God. Through times of joy and tribulation, God’s faithfulness remains consistent and steadfast. Life can be hard, challenging, and seem unfair. When things do not go according to our plans, we become frantic, but God remains faithful. Within our own strength, it is easy to want to become cynical and dismiss how God has kept us in the past. We invite you to not lose hope, but instead to use God’s track record of faithfulness as your strength.
Kindness is not a season or a feeling. It should not be reserved for a few days out of the year.Rather, kindness is a lifestyle. It is a daily practice. It is a choice. As Christians, we are to grow in the fruit of the spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and kindness – and growth takes time.
ROI – the acronym for return on investment – reveals profitability and efficiency. It is a tool used to make financial decisions. The formula to calculate ROI is simple: an investment’s net gain divided by its cost. Is the investment making money? How efficient is it compared with similar opportunities?A look at the Parable of Talents (Matthew 25) reveals that God’s resources, when invested in obedience, always produce the return He expects. Two servants in the parable invested what the Master had entrusted to them and were praised. One did nothing and the Master rebuked him. The Master placed high value on the first two servants’ desire to please Him, their willingness to do what He asked, and their choice to trust the outcome to Him. Are you a high-yield ROI, like the first two servants or are you like the latter servant who did nothing with what the Master had invested in Him?
Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. Love is a well-known concept for people all over the world. We understand love because of the family, friends, and significant others in our lives. But there is a different kind of love that is far greater than what we could ever imagine. The love of God is a gift that all believers will receive when they give their lives over to Jesus. God’s love cannot be compared to the love we experience on Earth. The bible is full of wisdom and explanation about the power of God’s love. So what makes God’s love so extraordinary?The love of God is unconditional, comforting and the greatest form of love. His love is all the love we need and it dwells in us richly.“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Genesis 3:9 - Where Art Thou? This question speaks more of a condition than a place. Where are you in the midst of God's vision? Can you be found? Can He count on you to be where He needs you, when He needs you? Will you run away and hide or will you willingly surrender to His will for you? Where are you?
God has a purpose and plan for you. His plans are sure, true, and faithful. This doesn’t mean that you will never experience problems or trials in life, but you do have an eternal future in Christ spiritually.God’s plan for you is to prosper and grow spiritually in Christ in the very situation you are in right now.God’s plans for you are sure. God’s plans for you are great.
God does not want us to show favouritism. James 2:9 says that "respect to persons" (KJV) or "partiality" (NKJV) is a sin. This is seen more clearly by considering the context of this passage in the New Living Translation: "My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim that you have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favour some people more than others? For instance, suppose someone comes into your meeting dressed in fancy clothes and expensive jewellery, and another comes in who is poor and dressed in shabby clothes. If you give special attention and a good seat to the rich person, but you say to the poor one, 'You can stand over there, or else sit on the floor—well, doesn't this discrimination show that you are guided by wrong motives?..."Yes indeed, it is good when you truly obey our Lord's royal command found in the Scriptures: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' But if you pay special attention to the rich, you are committing sin, for you are guilty of breaking that law" (James 2:1-4, 8-9).Therefore, God shows no favouritism or partiality, and the Bible teaches us that we should not either.

God desires for us to live free from the effects of fear and live big, fulfilling lives. He wants us to enjoy freedom and creativity, unhampered by fear. Many times we wait for the feelings of fear to go away before stepping out to take action. However, when the Lord tells us in His Word to “fear not,” He’s not saying we will never feel fear. We will all feel afraid at various times in our lives. He is telling us to not allow fear to control us and prevent us from moving forward. When we feel fear, we have a choice—we can do it afraid! The story of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4 is a remarkable illustration of what faith in the power of God should look like.
2 Kings 4:30 tells us that when she reached Elisha, the Shunammite woman said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” As followers of Christ, we must be willing to say the same thing to God. “God, I will not leave you.” Through good times and bad times, through uncertainty and difficulty, through pain and loss – God, I will not leave you. We have God’s word that He won’t leave us. Does He have ours? Many people walk with God on sunny days. But as soon as a storm hits they blame Him for their hardships and turn their backs on Him. No matter what our futures may hold let us remember Who holds the future and choose to say with the Shunammite woman – God, I will not leave you.
It happened on the same night that the Lord said to him, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand. Judges 7:9
Through our obedience, Jesus is able to demonstrate His sovereignty and power. Consider three reasons why obedience is critical to a successful Christian life: 1. Obeying God in small matters is an essential step in receiving God’s greatest blessings. 2. Our obedience will always benefit others. 3. When we obey God, we will never be disappointed.

God promises us in His Word that He hears every word that we pray to Him. Like a good parent, He is waiting, ready, and willing to listen to our worries, concerns, and needs. Whether we are seeking forgiveness, strength, or healing, prayer provides the channel to communicate with God and receive supernatural strength and power!.

Matthew 5 provides a list of character traits recommended by Jesus for those who want to spend eternity with God. Meekness and purity are not commonly recommended by our society. A quick scan of today's television programs and self-help books would back up this thought. Do we see honor given to the meek in many shows?
In the face of a society dominated by brashness, are we able to perform effectively with Jesus' recommendations? I would contend that it pleases God to do so – and that is all that really matters. Our lives should be devoted to God's glory first and foremost. He will take care of our earthly success if He sees fit to do so.

Scripture tells us numerous times that “Nothing is impossible with God.” The Bible encourages us to believe in God and that all things are possible with Him. Jesus was a great example of this, performing miracles in His time that many would have considered impossible. May these words spoken by our sister inspire you to have courage and strength.

Luke 23:38–43 is a conversation between Jesus and the criminals crucified alongside Him, and it is in the Bible because crucifixion was slow. There was time to talk. This conversation is surely one of the most extraordinary in the Bible. It shows us the similarities of these three dying men, and yet, at the same time, how very different Jesus is. What’s the result of this conversation between three crucified men?
The first criminal bears Roman condemnation on the cross and then God’s condemnation forever. And he deserves both.
The second criminal bears Roman condemnation on the cross but no condemnation from God forever. He deserves the first, while the second is a free gift.
Jesus, though He deserves neither Rome’s condemnation nor God’s condemnation, bears both on the cross. And so He secures for the second criminal — who is every bit as bad as the first — the free gift of eternal life.
But I fear none of these things, neither do I count my life more precious than myself, so that I may consummate my course and the ministry of the word which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. - Acts 20:24, Douay-Rheims Bible
The Bible says, God is Light, therefore, darkness and chaos are not in His will. So, the Almighty God made a pronouncement, “Let there be light,” and it was followed immediately with the desired result. This is an act of creative power. It is a calling into existence that which had not existed. That is the word of God’s power.
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.” Hebrew 1:3. God demonstrated the word of His power in bringing order out of confusion. God has authority and sovereignty over any situation. God is the supreme commander of the whole universe. He commanded light and it became visible; the thick darkness and clouds disappeared immediately. Wherever darkness and confusion are in your life, family, business, ministry, marriage, and education, the light of God will drive the darkness away.
