Honored to talk with N. Charles Anderson, my friend and colleague for many years. Congratulations to him for his work being part of the Library of Congress. N. Charles Anderson was born on February 7, 1953, in Gaston County, North Carolina to Fannie Mae Moses Anderson and Nicodemus Anderson. He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1971 and attended Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina where he studied business administration. He later received his B.A. degree in humanities from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 1981. Anderson started working at Piedmont Natural Gas in 1972 as a mail clerk when he became involved with the Charlotte NAACP Youth Council, where he later served as president. There, he helped organize the NAACP Youth Council radio show, “Talk to the People” on WGIV Radio in Charlotte, North Carolina and co-hosted the NAACP television program, “Experience!” In 1974, Anderson was hired as a sales representative for American Tobacco Company and later moved to Detroit. After graduating from Wayne State University, Anderson joined the NAACP Detroit Branch as its youth director in 1981. He then served on the national staff as director of the NAACP Midwest Region III from 1983 to 1987. In this role, he directed and managed NAACP state conferences as well as adult branches and college and youth councils in seven states including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Anderson served as the sixth president and chief executive officer of the Detroit Urban League from 1987 to 1994. In 1994, Anderson was appointed by Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer to serve as executive director of the Department of Human Services for the City of Detroit, a position he held until 1997. In 1997, he rejoined the Urban League of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan as the organization’s eighth president and chief executive officer. For twenty years, he was responsible for the vision, leadership, and direction of the Urban League of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan, which is one of 110 affiliates of the New York-based National Urban League. Anderson received the Wayne State University Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012, and the American Human Rights Council Spirit of Humanity Award in 2018. He served as a trustee of the National Urban League, and the New Detroit coalition. He also served on the board of NAACP Youth Council, CityConnect Detroit, New Center Community Services, Detroit Alliance for Fair Banking, Health Alliance Plan and University Cultural Center Association. Anderson also served as vice-chair of the board of trustees, Henry Ford Health System, Inc. and vice-chair of City Year Inc. Anderson and his wife, Marionette Anderson, have three daughters and nine grandchildren. The video oral history interview of Nonprofit executive N. Dr. Sandye Poitier Johnson, renowned educator with a career that spans four decades, retired principal of Thurgood Marshall Academy, former adjunct professor at City College and adjunct professor at Kean College, New Jersey, knows what it takes to turn a school around. She did what it takes to make a Title I public school an International Baccalaureate World School, the first NY Title I school to achieve this status. Currently the Executive Director of the Harlem Renaissance Education Pipeline, Dr. Johnson is widely credited with raising the academic standards and stature of the Thurgood Marshall Academy for Learning and Social Change in Harlem. She has what it takes to continue the fight for quality education. And she’s won accolades to prove it throughout her career—from the National Council of Negro Women’s Mary McLeod Bethune Award and the Dr. Martin Luther King Measure of a Woman Award to the Time Warner Principal of Excellence Award and more.

Climbing any success ladder takes constant prayers, a good plan, and resources. A successful person will see how her ideas come full circle once a vision elevates rapidly. Meet Dr. Stacie N.C. Grant, Empowerment Specialist, Event Strategist, TV Media Host, Author and Speaker. She has witnessed an incredible turn-around in her life and business. And, as mind-blowing as it is, Grant can no longer hide the sizzling details. Grant believes wholeheartedly in the mantra: Prayer is the key. Faith unlocks the door. She knows unfathomably that these are the primary ingredients needed behind every #Faithpreneur and entrepreneur to see their businesses excel. She recently opened up about two life events that eventually led her in front of thousands of people globally. She remembers her first-grade teacher speaking to her mother about some behaviors on the first day of school. The teacher began the conversation with positive statements but went on to explain one problem. She mentioned how Grant gathered all the classmates and began teaching the students their ABCs. Speaking began for Grant at a young age, and this gift continued to nurture throughout middle school, high school, and college. Her personality and gifts began to flourish abundantly through more experiences and encounters while growing up. But, there is one other memory that sparks and ignites her spirit to leap daily. It’s the sweet, savory recollections of her grandmother’s solid walk of faith in God. This bond was unique because Grant tuned into her gifts of prayer, speaking, and service to others through the actions of her grandmother. “God was designing my life all along. I didn’t understand the real purpose, but now things are clearer to me,” she remarked. “Faith was the legacy my grandmother left us.” And, Grant continues to build on this legacy, which has carried her name, gifts, and business to the masses. Grant’s new year from a legacy of faith began with her first tribute dinner celebrating her grandmother on her birthday in August, and leading prayer on a new platform. This prayer call is no pomp and circumstance. It’s a time, where everybody shares,” stated Grant. Raised in Saginaw, Atkins worked hard to overcome childhood challenges, including family turmoil and abuse, to graduate from St. Joseph's High School. She continued her education at SVSU, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology. Atkins then completed a law degree at the University of Detroit School of Law. After graduation, she became a lawyer and then was appointed the chief judge in Detroit's 36th District Court for 12 years until her retirement in 2012. After retiring from the bench, Atkins wrote her autobiography “The Triumph of Rosemary: A Memoir,” which was published in 2017. The memoir – at times raw and in other passages heartwarming – addresses important topics of diversity and social change. Born to an Italian teen and a married black man in Detroit in 1946, Atkins was adopted by a black couple in Saginaw. At age 19, she sparked a racial and religious scandal by marrying former Roman Catholic priest Thomas Lee Atkins, who was white and 25 years older than she. The couple had two biracial daughters, Elizabeth Ann Atkins and Catherine Marie Atkins Greenspan, who look white. The parents worked full time, and in a reversal of traditional gender roles, Marylin Atkins attended law school at night while Tom took the high-achieving girls to lessons for swim, piano, and skiing. Both daughters ultimately completed graduate degrees. Over time, family rifts resulting from the interracial marriage began to heal, fostering harmony and healing. The Atkins family's lifestyle includes friendships and associations with people of a cornucopia of race, religion, and culture. Atkins currently resides Detroit. Her late husband died in 1990. It was Mother’s Day 1991, when Ola received a handmade Mother’s Day card from her husband and son and a check that would redirect her path from employee to business owner. Ola created an 8-page local newsletter that grew into a national business magazine called Onyx Woman. She expanded to produce sell-out women’s conferences, a television talk show and began speaking around the country. Through her encounters with her audience, Ola noticed that women expressed that, although successful on the outside, there was something missing in their desire to thrive for inner-peace and confidence. At the same time as she was evaluating her own life-lessons, (the mother of an autistic adult son and caregiver to her 80-year old mother), is when she began to appreciate the value of taking care of herself while dealing with the challenges of caring for others. She was encouraged to turn this moment into a message that was needed to complete the missing link to helping other women who asked the question, “What about me?” So she started a lifestyle blog called Your Stylish Ways (YSW). YSW infused fashion and cooking content, with self-care tips and inspiring profile stories to offer women ideas on how to apply self-care activities into their own lives. The Robert Morris University graduate found the answer she sought to move on her mission to motivate women wanting direction on how to engage in a self-care lifestyle. When Sherry Sims created a LinkedIn group to connect black women seeking and offering career advice, she never thought her idea would turn into a business. Sherry Sims has more than 14 years of experience in Human Resources and specializing in Talent Acquisition. Sims saw that there was a lack of access for professional black women when it came to peer support and mentoring in her own career, so she set out to create the Black Career Women’s Network as a LinkedIn group. Sims took her LinkedIn group and turned it into a national organization, the Black Career Women’s Network. Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie serves as the 117th elected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Her historic election in the year 2000 represents the first time in the over 213-year history of the A.M.E. Church, a woman had obtained the level of Episcopal office. The firsts continued, as she is the first woman to serve as President of the Council of Bishops; Chair, General Conference Commission; host bishop to the General Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the President of the General Board of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Currently, she is honored to serve as the presiding prelate of the 10th Episcopal District, which encompasses the great state of Texas. She previously served as the presiding bishop of the Thirteenth Episcopal District, Tennessee and Kentucky and the Eighteenth Episcopal District in Southern Africa. In each district she initiated innovative ministry from building three group homes for children orphaned by AIDS in Swaziland to establishing Believe, Inc., a faith-based non-profit to help resource local congregations and provide theological scholarships. Bishop McKenzie was appointed to serve on the Advisory Council of the White House Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships by President Barack Obama in 2009. She is a member of the Board of Trustee of Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas and is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Interdenominational Center in Atlanta, Georgia Bishop McKenzie is the National Chaplain for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. the largest predominantly African American sorority of college-trained women. Penny served as Executive Director of City Year Detroit (CYD) from 2001-2015, responsible for Michigan’s largest AmeriCorps program, retiring in 2015. During that period, over 1,000 young adult “corps members” served full time with CYD for up to two years each, providing data-driven all day academic classroom tutoring, mentoring and role modeling to thousands of Detroit’s school children, keeping them “in school and on track to graduation.” City Year also partners (in 28 cities nationally including Detroit) with Johns Hopkins University and Communities in Schools, Inc. for their U. S. Dept of Education-funded Invest in Innovation (i3) award-winning school transformation model called Diplomas Now. Penny served for over 17 years (1983-2000) as Executive Director/CEO of the Michigan Metro Girl Scout Council in Detroit, increasing the girl membership from 21,000 to 43,000 and registered adult volunteers from 6,000 to 14,000 and proudly earning the 1992 CRAIN’s “Best Managed Non Profit Award.” She was elected to the Detroit Board of Education (1990-94) and in 1997 was named one of of CRAIN’s Detroit Business “100 Most Influential Women.” Since 1979, Penny has served on and led numerous non-profit and civic boards in Detroit, focused primarily on youth, education and Detroit’s revitalization. Her columns on the text message scandal that led to the imprisonment of Kwame Kilpatrick, Detroit’s former mayor, were part of the Free Press’ 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage for local news. She received the 2017 Eugene C. Pulliam Editorial Fellowship from the Society of Professional Journalists and the 2017 winner of the NABJ Ida B. Wells Award from the National Association of Black Journalists. It is an annual honor given to an individual who has made outstanding efforts to make newsrooms and news coverage more accurately reflect the diversity of the communities they serve. The award is named for the distinguished journalist, fearless reporter and anti-lynching crusader. Rochelle also is author of the new book “The Burden: African Americans and the Enduring Impact of Slavery” (Wayne State University Press, 2018). A strong advocate for press freedom, Rochelle is co-chair of the National Association of Black Journalists Global Journalism Task Force, which works to increase the number of minority journalists covering the world. She is a global traveler who has been to 25 countries and counting. She was a 2007-2008 Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan, where she studied online communities and film. This is an enlightening and inspiring interview with Sam Wells, of Flint, who was honored last year by the Michigan Community Service Commission. He was one of those chosen individuals from across the state of Michigan that received the prestigious GOVERNOR'S SERVICE AWARD. Specifically, Sam was recognized as the "Mentor of the Year." This award honors an individual who provides youth (25 and under) with the confidence and assets to be successful. Hear on this podcast how he does it and WHY. Sam Wells of Flint Township is a man that leads by example. He has led efforts to help young men become the next generation of leaders through the Alpha Esquire Mentoring and Leadership Program, which includes predominantly African-American young males from Flint and Genesee County. Sam helped develop the program and serves as the director. The Esquires enroll 40 members annually and emphasize education, community service, life skills and character building. Sam coordinates several events and workshops each year to help the young men in the program develop. He has also added a scholarship component, which awards $20,000 to 20 graduating seniors. The program also provides luggage, dorm microwaves, refrigerators and computers to students. Williams uses those life experiences to guide his hands in leading the fight for workers rights, civil rights, equality, and access for the under-served population of the world. At an early age Rev. Williams was eager to reach into the real world, and be a part of a movement for change. From college campus political activity, social justice corporate and issue campaigns, to leading political campaigns for candidates like U.S Senator Debbie Stabenow and Al Sharpton and serving in the office of the pastorate. Rev. Williams charge had been confirmed by his opportunity to be mentored by Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Timothy McDonald, U.S Senator Debbie Stabenow, William Lucy, Dick Gregory, Rev. Joseph Lowery and countless others. Although, Running Political Campaigns, Engaging in Partisan Politics, engaging in Social advocacy, and evangelizing around the country is a dream realized for Rev. Williams. The destination of accomplishment is a far off and will continue to lead to global human and civil rights advocacy. At the current age of 32, Rev. Bishop Edgar Vann was stepping down from the pulpit of Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit after preaching to his congregation on New Year’s Eve one year ago when he was confronted with death. “It was as if a dark curtain was falling and I could feel myself losing consciousness and falling out,” the 60-year-old said. "I turned to my wife and grabbed her and that’s the last thing I remember.” Had it not been for someone in his congregation who administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately, he wouldn’t be alive today. “My heart stopped and there was no pulse,” Vann said. William F. Pickard, PhD, is CEO and chairman for multiple enterprises, including VITEC L.L.C., Global Automotive Alliance L.L.C., Grupo Antolin-Wayne, ARD Logistics, L.L.C., and Commonwealth Regal Industries. He is also the owner of several McDonald’s franchises and a co-owner of five black-owned newspapers. Dr. Pickard is also CEO of Bearwood Management and author of Millionaire Moves: Seven Proven Principles of Entrepreneurship. LEARNING TO DREAM BIG Pickard caught his first glimpse of the automotive world in the 1950s when his parents moved the family from Florida to Flint, Michigan, a city built on the car industry. While his parents worked on the assembly line at General Motors, the young Pickard attended school, where he was treated as an outcast for being both new to the neighborhood and African American. He struggled in his schoolwork until an English teacher encouraged him to work to his fullest potential. Pickard considered this teacher his first mentor and the person who introduced him to the importance of helping others to achieve their best. With his new ambition in place, Pickard pushed ahead to earn an associate's degree at Flint Mott College in 1962 and a bachelor's degree at Western Michigan University in 1964. He then earned a master's degree in social work at the University of Michigan. STARTING A CAREER, HELPING OTHERS Armed with his training, Pickard began his good works. He started his career in 1965 as the director of education at the Cleveland Urban League and then, in 1967, joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People as executive director. In 1969 Pickard returned to school to earn a PhD in psychology at Ohio State University in Columbus. On completing his studies he worked in several professorial positions at various institutions in southeastern Michigan and northern Ohio. At the same time he started on a new path into the world of entrepreneurship, allowing his business and investment skills to emerge-skills that would be tested through several ventures and eventually lead him to success. FROM GOOD DEEDS TO GREAT SUCCESS Soon after a chance meeting with a McDonald's corporate executive, Pickard began his first business endeavor as the owner of several McDonald's franchises. He was also investing, not too successfully, in car dealerships around that time. Later, a lunch with Henry Ford II led him from dealerships to the automotive supply industry. Ford told him, "We need black suppliers," and Pickard took that to heart (Detroit News , May 21, 2002). Soon he began investing in minority firms that produced automotive parts. This move led to his creating the Global Automotive Alliance (Alliance), one of the country's leading minority-owned companies. SHARING THE WEALTH With the means to help others on a larger scale, Dr. Pickard created a company wide internship program to recruit the next generation of minority employees in plastics processing. He also serves on the board of the National Urban League, and is a member of the Detroit Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).In addition, he continues teaching, is an avid volunteer and donor to charities and mentors many aspiring entrepreneurs and leaders. In 2001 the Detroit News honored him as a Michiganian of the Year for his accomplishments as an entrepreneur , teacher, and mentor to future leaders.

Starting as a public relations consultant in Atlanta, GA, and returning to her hometown to then land a positive at The Michigan Chronicle, she’s never given up on her strong aspirations in following her career path in marketing and communications with the desire to start a mentoring coaching business for college students. Carol Goss retired after nearly a decade as the Skillman Foundation’s president & CEO. During her tenure, the Foundation underwent major strategic shifts, including becoming an embedded funder working on-the-ground in six neighborhoods. Goss, a social worker by training, championed that effort and became a voice for children in the city when few others were beating that drum. Because of Carol Goss, the landscape of work for Detroit children has been reengineered. Because of her leadership, groups like Excellent Schools Detroit, Data Driven Detroit, Osborn Neighborhood Alliance, Congress of Communities Southwest Detroit, and Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance are in place now, moving outcomes for kids. Today, Goss is the Founder of Warrior Women Against Poverty. "It is a movement of African American women who are working to support and mentor some of our most vulnerable women and their children. We started 2 years ago after spending a year at Harvard on a fellowship and we now work in partnership with COTS to help these women move towards self sufficiency. They all want jobs and stable housing and more education and better lives for their children," said Goss. Leaders have to take risks, walk in paths that have not been used, and be patient for results. Leaders must also show compassion and not be judgemental. Appling is the Co-Founder of Cool Smart, Inc., a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that has a mission to educate the youth and young professionals on the importance of philanthropy and increasing awareness of charitable initiatives in metropolitan areas through Cool, Smart, and Fun programming. Cool Smart, Inc. was founded in 2014 by Jason Appling and his business partner Byron Suggs. This inspired the birth of the Cool Smart, Inc., assuming that the youth would be more apt to volunteer and raise money for their community if educated on the importance of philanthropy but done in a manner that infused Cool, Smart, and Fun activities. The original idea behind the event was to celebrate the two individual’s birthday but use the funds raise to donate to local non-profits organizations. The initial event drew over 350 people but as of 2015 draws over 1200+ patrons and over the course of 5 years has raised $45,000 for 9 local non-profit charities in the Metropolitan Detroit Area. In addition, Jason Appling holds position of 2nd Vice President for BUF Connect, a young professional’s leadership group under the Black United Fund of Michigan. The mission of BUF Connect is to increase awareness of the Black United Fund’s mission to the young professionals between the ages of 21-40. When Meryl first fell in love with figure skating on a frozen lake by her childhood home outside of Detroit, Michigan, she had no idea the journey she was about to embark on. Teaming up with partner, Charlie White at the young age of nine, Meryl and Charlie began their quest together. Neither knowing much about the discipline of ice-dance, the team was driven by a passion for skating and the desire to learn, grow and see improvement from one day to the next. 20 years later, Meryl and Charlie are the reigning Olympic Champions and the first and only Americans to win the event. They’re also six-time U.S. Champions and 2-time World Champions, making them the most decorated U.S. ice dancers of all time. Look at any leader - and you'll see they were once a volunteer. Volunteers launch movements. Think about the Civil Rights Movement where countless volunteers, including Rev. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, banded together to make an impact. Many leaders were also birthed from that movement - my dad being one of them. "Money Helps But People Solve Problems," said my friend, Governor George Romney. Just some history on me: I co-founded United Way Community Services, merging two United Way affiliates to more effectively provide health and human services, and served as its first executive vice president and chief operating officer. I also engaged Detroit’s mayor and auto companies to mobilize hundreds of professionals to mentor Detroit youth, worked with former Michigan Gov. George Romney to increase volunteerism throughout the region, and championed quality education as chair of the Compact, Detroit’s first successful education reform effort. While at United Way, I attended Harvard Business School, and taught at the United Way of America’s Academy of Volunteerism. Once the majority of volunteers were stay-at-home moms and retirees. Today’s volunteer is a teenager, a GenXer, a professional, a corporate employee, a home-based entrepreneur, a community activist, and all personalities in between. It is through all their efforts that much of the work to help people and improve community life is done. Leaders. Leadership. Besides being an American retired Hall of Fame basketball player, Dave Bing has many other major accomplishments. He's run a steel company where he became to top minority supplier to the the auto industry and later was elected Mayor of the City of Detroit. But after all that, this show discusses the thing he is most proud of - and the reason why he leaps out of bed in the morning excited about life and the impact he can make in the lives of young men. BINGO! This show will give a picture of what the young Dave Bing was all about and what makes him the leader he is today. (This is just part 1) Dave Bing has uniquely claimed success in three distinct arenas; professional sports, business and politics. Dave Bing was elected the 62nd Mayor of the City of Detroit in May 2009. A native of Washington, D.C., Bing is a graduate of Syracuse University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and was later bestowed an honorary Doctorate of Laws in 2006. He was also a standout basketball player in both high school and college. Dave Bing came to Detroit in 1966 when he was drafted by the Detroit Pistons as their #1 pick. Voted one of the top 50 basketball players of all time, Bing was inducted into the Michigan Hall of Fame in 1984, and into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 1990. Bing turned his winning strategies from the basketball court to the boardroom as the founder of an automotive supply corporation, The Bing Group in 1980, where he served as President and Chairman until April 2009. Within a decade, The Bing Group was recognized as one of the nation’s top Minority-Owned Companies by Black Enterprise. Answering yet another call to serve, Bing decided to run for Mayor to help rebuild a city that he has loved and been a part of for more than 40 years. Proving that the basics of good performance, integrity and business can be applied to any area or industry, Bing has brought a renewed sense of trust and hope to the City of Detroit. Collin Mays is one of Michigan’s fastest rising young professionals. Mr. Mays graduated from Western Michigan University with a B.A. in Political Science. On campus he was very active and held numerous positions including, President of the WMU College Democrats and Chairman of Political Affairs for the Student Association. Collin began his career interning for the Michigan State Senate and Wayne County Corporation Counsel. Recording and performance artist, educator, and activist Mahogany Jones's career is distinguished by titles. Mahogany Jones harnesses the true power of music to uplift the spirit, body, and soul and educate the masses. A sensational performer and lyrical powerhouse, Mahogany embodies Hip Hop, femininity, spirituality, and passion in each commanding performance. The 4x Undefeated BET's 106 & Park "Freestyle Fridays" champion has gone on to headline in over 13 countries on four continents as an official U.S. music ambassador. As a Hip-Hop activist, she launched A PURE Movement to empower women and girls and confront violence against women. Most recently Mahogany was named a 2016 Kresge Arts Fellow. In her career, Mahogany has now released 3 full-length albums and has been featured on over 30 compilations, Mixtapes and CDs. She was able to achieve all of the feats listed above, while still taking the time to give back to the future leaders in music, as facilitator for one of Detroit’s largest literary arts non- profits, Inside Out, an adjunct instructor at the Detroit Institute of Music, as well as a lead facilitator for Detroit non profit, the Yuinon, and is a proud member of the Foundation- a women in Hip-Hop collective based in Detroit. Mahogany has graced stages with such greats as Gil Scott Heron, Talib Kweli, KEM, Rah Digga, India.Arie, The Roots, and Jessica care Moore. Jason Lee, CEO of Focus: HOPE talks about how the organization is retooling to meet the current inequities in Detroit. Focus: HOPE was created to address the issues that led to the 1967 Rebellion. Now, 50 years later, Lee talks about "how we see Detroit" and their mission of FIGHTING RACISM, POVERTY AND INJUSTICE. Focus: HOPE address the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education and racial divisiveness through its three primary programs. Lee talks about how the organization is refocusing on these initiatives: FOOD Our Food Program provides 41,000 low-income seniors with monthly food packages to assist with independence, healthy living and addressing basic needs. Our program also provides important infrastructure for health screenings, income support, tax preparation and utilities assistance for seniors and the community at large. CAREERS With an extraordinary record of success in working with underserved and underrepresented individuals in the Detroit/Southeast Michigan community, we offer high-quality work readiness, pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs in a range of in-demand career fields. She’s shared the stage with Steve Harvey, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Amiri Baraka… jessica Care moore has graced the cover of The New York Times, The Metro Times, Michigan FrontPage, Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, African Voices Magazine, Black Elegance Magazine, and has been featured in print and online magazines across the world, including, Essence,Huffington Post, Blaze, The Source, Vibe, Bomb, Mosaic, Savoy, One World, Upscale, Ambassador Magazine, UPTOWN and others. SHE IS POETRY IN MOTION making it happen! Her multimedia show, God is Not an American, was produced by The Apollo Theater and Time Warner’s NYC Parks Summer Concert Series. She was the host, writer and co-Executive Producer of the poetry driven television show, Spoken, which was executive produced by and directed by Robert Townsend. As an artist/activist, jessica Care moore lent her powerful voice to the international fight against AIDS. She performed for the United Nations World AIDS Day Commemoration two years in a row. moore has also performed in front of thousands of people during AIDS WALK Opening Ceremonies in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Florida and Atlanta. jessica Care moore lives for the stage and her audience. Her techno solo theater performance, The Missing Project: Pieces of the D is an high energy homage to Detroit. Black Tea: The Legend of Jessi James is her debut album. Coleman Alexander Young (1918-1997)was the iconic mayor of Detroit, Michigan from 1974 to 1994. Young was the first African-American mayor of Detroit. He left a real legacy for our youth. Gail Perry-Mason, of Detroit, has come a long way, from foster care to caring for others. Gail is a respected authority in the financial industry. And now she can add bestselling author to her list of accomplishments. And it’s her years of experience coupled with her down-to-earth but also down-to-business style that has made her a sought-after speaker and presenter. She regularly addresses capacity crowds educating people on financial literacy and has conducted financial training sessions and workshops for companies from auto companies to banks to Fortune 500 organizations. Gail was also recently a featured financial speaker at the Essence Festival.
