Messianic Judaism is a biblically based movement of Jewish people who have come to believe in Yeshua as the promised Jewish Messiah of Israel. Yeshua is the Hebrew name for Jesus, which means Salvation. Today there are tens of thousands of Messianic Jews in the United States alone – some have estimated the number to be as high as 150,000. Messianic Congregations and Synagogues are springing up in almost every major city across the country including San Diego. Other nations such as Canada, England, France, Israel, and Argentina are experiencing a growing movement of Messianic Jews as well.

The jolly Jewish holiday of Purim is celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar (late winter/early spring). Purim 2022 begins on Wednesday night, March 16 and continues through Thursday, March 17, (extending through Friday in Jerusalem). It commemorates the (Divinely orchestrated) salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian empire from Haman’s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day.” Literally “lots” in ancient Persian, Purim was thus named since Haman had thrown lots to determine when he would carry out his diabolical scheme, as recorded in the Megillah (book of Esther).

Simchat Torah, the annual rolling back of the Torah scroll, is a time-honored celebration.
The holiday of Sukkot is followed by an independent holiday called Shemini Atzeret. In Israel, this is a one-day holiday; in the Diaspora it is a two-day holiday, and the second day is known as Simchat Torah. This holiday is characterized by utterly unbridled joy, which reaches its climax on Simchat Torah when we celebrate the conclusion—and restart—of the annual Torah-reading cycle.
Rabbi Joel shares information and invites the congregation to view, up close, the Torah scroll on this day and shares information about the parts of the scroll and their importance.

Yom Teruah or Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets) is the Jewish New Year and is "trumpeted in" with the blowing of the shofar. This holiday points us to repentance (changing one's way of thinking and being), to regather to God. The shofar will sound on the Day of the Lord when God gathers all His people from the four corners of the earth to Himself at the Messiah's return. Yom Teruah takes us into the days of awe as we seek Him and look at ourselves and what keeps us from Him.

The full name of the day commemorating the victims of the Holocaust is “Yom Hashoah Ve-Hagevurah“– literally the “Day of (Remembrance of) the Holocaust and the Heroism.” It is marked on the 27th day in the month of Nisan.
Today, we honor the memories of those that went before us. We lament and light a candle that will burn for 24 hours in memory of those lost. The concept of a special yahrzeit candle was originally developed in the late 1970s by survivors of the Shoah to remember victims of the Shoah with an observance in their homes.
“Remember,” we are told. “Never forget”—a slogan based on God’s prescription in Deuteronomy 25:17–19:
Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, How he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. Therefore when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.
