Solve your money problems without sacrificing what's most important in life. Too many successful people either sacrificed their families on the way to their financial dreams or got most of the way there and then realized they needed something more. Either way, that's not us. Money is a part of all of our lives and it also happens to be one of the biggest stressors for most families. So, how do we crack the money code and eliminate that stressor without making it the focus of our lives? How do we figure out what’s keeping us from being there already? Is there one path, or multiple, to reaching our financial freedom goals that doesn’t sacrifice what’s most important to us? And why do some succeed and others fail who use the same tactics? It’s questions like these we answer on Contenders Wanted. On the show we don’t talk about a particular strategy. Instead we dive deep into the inflection points of our guest’s journey’s. Those moments where they went from Contender to Champion. Instead of diving into “what” strategy our guests used to solve their money issues, we instead focus on “how” they chose the strategy and “why'' they were successful, so we can discover our own roadblocks and clear them out and get in the fast lane to financial freedom. So, if you won’t accept anything less than total financial freedom combined with real meaningful success in the most important areas of your life, you might be a Contender. If you listen to podcasts everyday on your commute trying to figure out how to solve your money problems or figure out what you need to do to create the life you dream of, you might be a Contender. If that's you, then join us where Contenders are always wanted.
Show Notes:What do you do when no matter your effort or your dreaming, life sends you a curveball that makes your dreams impossible? Would just contending for those dreams be enough for you? Or, if you’re a bit more like me, would that be a bit tortuous? The hard part about these questions is I think you don’t really know the answer until you’re in a moment like that. In the episode today I share how I think I might understand a bit what that would be like because of my wife and I's battle with infertility the past 8 years, but our guest today knows exactly what striving for impossible dreams feels like. She’s had her share of moments in her life where no matter her effort and sacrifice, life and God had other plans for her.
Our guest today is Kitty Robinson. She said "I do" to her high school sweetheart, Casey, 27 years ago. As a heart and brain surgery survivor and homeschooling mom of 8 (insert survivor status here, too!), her life path has had some unusual turns. She's currently walking that path out in Middle Georgia, where she writes, runs, and coaches. On the show today we discuss the following:

Show Notes:Can you think of an example of someone or something in a perceived disadvantage that then turns it into their advantage? My mind things of Ben Affleck's character in the movie, the Accountant. Or the engineers from Apollo 11 using just what was in a box to fix the spaceship. Or Edmond Dantes from the Count of Monte Cristo. Beyond the pop culture references, some might even say that their higher education left them at a bit of a disadvantage when they entered the work force. You may have quickly realized once you entered the workforce that you were faced with a whole new set of skills to develop. Things like networking, communication, leadership, negotiations, sales, management, and on and on and on. But there’s still value in higher education. So how do we make sure we get the most out of it and then turn these missing skills from a disadvantage into our advantage once we’re out in the workforce? Well our guest today attended elite level higher education, and it didn’t take long for him once he started his professional career to feel like he had missed some critically important skills in that education process. This then in turn led him on a path to find, develop, and master these missing skills and then later teach them to others so they can supercharge their professional careers.
Our guest today is Mark Herschberg. From tracking criminals and terrorists on the dark web to creating marketplaces and new authentication systems, Mark has spent his career launching and developing new ventures at startups and Fortune 500s and in academia. He helped to start the Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program, dubbed MIT’s “career success accelerator,” where he teaches annually. At MIT, he received a B.S. in physics, a B.S. in electrical engineering & computer science, and a M.Eng. in electrical engineering & computer science, focusing on cryptography. At Harvard Business School, Mark helped create a platform used to teach finance at prominent business schools. He also works with many non-profits, including Techie Youth and Plant A Million Corals. He was one of the top-ranked ballroom dancers in the country and now lives in New York City, where he is known for his social gatherings, including his annual Halloween party, as well as his diverse cufflink collection. Show Notes:How much do you think about your thoughts? Seems kinda like a funny question, don’t you think? Thinking about our thoughts? But in all reality, this is something people have encouraged me to do ever since I was a kid. But my early training around paying attention to my thoughts really only focused on moral cleanliness. I didn’t think about learning to observe and actively choose my own thoughts in other areas until I got more involved in personal development. Well our guest today has done the work necessary to master his thoughts and told me after the show that he feels those lessons are the most important lessons he could share with us.

Show Notes:Growing up did you ever feel like if you don't go to college you're probably going to be a failure? Well if you did, you're not alone in that feeling. As a millennial, that belief permeated our education system growing up. Everything pointed to college. But in recent years that belief has been challenged. Examples of individuals who never went to college but were very successful include the likes of Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, and Steven Spielberg. This week's guest is another person who we could add to this list.

Show Notes:We've all come across the internet trolls. They leave annoy or at the least frustrating comments that we all wish we could just reach across the internet sometimes and put them in their place. But unfortunately, if we do happen to be in a moment when our frustration or even self-righteous indignation get's the best of us and we write back a pithy and scathing response, we immediately regret it. But what if we could teach ourselves to always pause just before then, take a moment to think clearly, and then respond more thoughtfully. Well that is exactly what today's guest's system is designed to do.
Our guest today is Darcy Luoma. She is the author of Thoughtfully Fit®, is a Master Certified Coach, a dynamic facilitator, and an inspiring motivational speaker. "**To thy own self be true." Have you ever pondered on what this oft quoted saying from Shakesphere’s Hamlet means? Better yet, how have you come to better know yourself? For me I’ve done at least half a dozen different personality quizzes, strength finder tests, and purpose discovery worksheets. Each one has been helpful, but, for me personally, it’s been the culmination of all of these together coupled with journaling and frequent reflection that’s allowed me to better come to see myself, and as I have done this work I’ve come to believe that this process of coming to see ourselves more clearly is a vital part of our own individual journey through life. Our guest today has gone through the work to know herself and that work that has completely changed the course of her life.

Show Notes:No matter your position, power, or wealth, I think we all agree that we wish we could somehow get more time. The importance of time and our fascination with it is the subject of everything from pop culture movies to profound philosophy, and everything in between.
Some that come top of mind are Marty McFly from Back to the Future and a short saying from Seneca, a Roman Stoic Philosopher and Statesman: Life, if well lived, is long enough. No matter your feelings about it though, we all likely wish we had more of it at one point in our lives. So how do we get more time in our lives? How do ensure that we live a life well lived as Seneca said? On our show today we cover all these things and more.

Physically, who’s the biggest, baddest, strongest person you can think of? Maybe it’s Andre the Giant. Or The Rock. Or maybe Hafþór Björnsson, i.e. the Mountain from the hugely popular TV series, Game of Thrones. Either way, physical strength and size can be awe inspiring. But there’s another kind of strength that isn’t so easily viewed from the outside. It’s an inner strength, usually born and cultivated over years in the rich soils of trial, loss, pain, heartache, and injustice. And this strength can be just as powerful and just as awe inspiring. That's what makes our guest today so incredible. He's a combination of both physical and mental strength.

And each of us has our own way of dealing with those inevitable pains of life. Some more healthy than others. But no matter how we deal with it, we have to deal with it. We can't just run and hide, we have to face the pain. On the show today I sit down with a woman who has not only had incredibly painful experiences in her own life loosing two children, but she shares how she had turned those experiences into a source of strength for her that she now uses to help and coach women going through the same things.

Show Notes:I think it’s almost a universally understood fact of life that the old kids in a family are the guinea pigs and life tends to be very different when you compare the oldest and youngest children in a family. Part of that is that life circumstances change and part of that is that parents get better with time. Generally though, this is because parents tend to use an equity based parenting system and not an equality based system. But what is the difference between equity and equality and how can we use it to more effectively parent? On the show today we talk about this ethical principle and so many others that we can apply in parenting, business, and in life as we strive to make better decisions and have better long-term outcomes.

Show Notes:What comes to mind when you hear the word freeloader? What about mooch? Parasite? Slacker? Or deadbeat? No matter what came to mind, it likely wasn’t something nice. But at the end of the day we all know what it means: someone who takes advantage of the kindness and charity of others who shouldn’t. And almost universally we wouldn’t want to be described like that. But the problem is that none of us really is a “lone wolf”. We all need each other. So how do we appropriately accept and even at times elicit help from others without becoming that freeloader we all despise?
Well our guests today were given a lesson, or better said six little lessons, in how to give and receive help when in less than four years they went from a young married couple with no kids to parents of six and they had to learn how to be willing to receive help in order to just keep things afloat and, later, the value of returning the favor.
Dallin & Alyssa McEwen’s story began when they were 12 years old leading them to finally be in the same place at the same time in college. They’ve been married for 8 years. The first year spent playing college sports and the next two spent trying to grow their family. After a successful first round of IVF they had twin girls join the crew. 18 months later came what they believed to be the biggest surprise of their life when their little boy was born. But then a year and a half later, they got pregnant with triplets! If you’re still doing the math that’s 6 kids in 3 years. As they say, their life is busy and chaotic and filled with love, giggles and a lot of diapers. They wouldn’t change their circumstance for the world, but instead have jumped two feet in to making the day to day not just manageable but enjoyable. On the show today we discuss the following:

Have you ever been so invested in something it becomes part of your identity? So much so that when it disappears from your life, a part of you seems to disappear with it? Our guest today is Dave Woodward and he did the same thing when he tied a part of his identity to his company that in 2008 went from incredibly successful to hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt almost overnight. But that's just part of his story.
Dave Woodward graduated from Brigham Young University. He became Regional Director of Americo, a local Texas firm which he took national in just 2 years’ time. Dave then founded Monopolize, Inc, a direct response marketing agency focused on financial services and the real estate industry. But he recognized a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when he met Russell Brunson and Todd Dickerson, the two founders of ClickFunnels back in 2014, when the company was just a startup. Russell and Todd felt immediate kinship to Dave and invited him to come onboard. Dave became a vital part of the team as Chief Revenue Officer. The rest, as they say, is history. And for Dave, it’s never about the ‘title’ of CEO...it’s about RESULTS. In addition to his CEO duties, Dave is the energetic host of the wildly popular podcast,
“ClickFunnels Radio.” Dave has a true gift for making his guests feel right at home. So it’s no wonder he gets some of the savviest business owners and self starters on the planet to share

Have you ever wanted to know an answer so bad that you were willing to do literally anything to get the answer? Well our guest today is Josh Rhodes and his question was this: “how do you build wealth?” As a result of this question he sent out 50 emails to some of the most successful people he knew of and before he knew it he was interviewing these people, recording their conversations, then started a podcast, and now has done over 200 of these interviews for his show.
Joshua Rhodes is the founder of Rhodes To Wealth, and the Rhodes To Wealth podcast, a platform set out to provide wealth building advice, tips and strategies from the world’s most successful wealth building experts. As a first-generation college graduate, the idea and thought of how to ‘build wealth’ was not something that Josh was exposed to much while growing up in Houston, Texas. Once out of college, he found himself in an outside sales role in a leading cyber security company, living lean, and building some disposable income. After years of saving his money, he went hunting for advice on what to do next. Rather than ‘blindly’ dumping his money into an asset he’s heard others talk about, he decided to take matters into his own hands - searching for answers in books, articles and from experts. As Josh tore through his wealth building journey, he found that the best way for him to fully grasp wealth building was to invest in himself, and that is how Rhodes To Wealth was born. His goal with the Rhodes To Wealth platform and by talking to wealth building experts is to help non-traditional wealth building Millennials, like himself, who feel they have enough money to invest, but not enough knowledge to do it confidently, find a path that leads them to financial freedom - and hopefully early retirement. On the show today we discuss the following:

Do you ever wish you had more control over how you felt or what direction your life was going? Or wish you could figure out how to get out of those funks we all inevitably go through instead of having to just ride it out? Well our guest today teaches people how to do those things and more. Our guest today is Bob Gardner and after discovering and learning how to conquer his own demons he now teaches others how to do the same.
Bob spent 18 years of his life battling frequent bouts of depression, addiction, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. As an entrepreneur, that internal struggle made him unproductive, very sensitive to any threat to his business, and very poor at making decisions that would put food on the table for his family. It bankrupted him and took him to the brink of losing his wife and kids…Until he finally couldn’t take it anymore and created a method to completely get rid of those inner demons so he could live life without the constant struggle. Since founding his company The Freedom Specialist, he has helped hundreds of people through programs, presentations, coaching, and retreats to discover that… stress doesn’t have to be “a fact of life”… and that happiness is a skill anyone can learn. It’s also the most reliable road to leaving behind all the things that keep people stuck in depression, anxiety, addiction, and more.

Do you drive everyday to work, wanting more? Do you dream of becoming something great, and know you can, but just don’t know how? Do you feel an absolute responsibility to become your best but you don’t want to follow the same path as so many others who sacrificed their families and everything else important to them in the process?
Well I’m here to tell you that it’s not only possible, but easier than you think.
You can be incredibly successful without sacrificing your family and your faith in the process.
You can be financially wealthy as well as time and experience wealthy. You can smash through any barrier that’s been holding you back and get your life in high gear on your path to success.
Contenders Wanted is all about making that happen for you and sharing that message with the world.
Like you I’ve enjoyed a measure of success and I’m always working to take my life to the next level. However, everywhere I looked I couldn’t relate to the ultra successful people that were in my social media feeds. Either they did most of the work to get to where they are before they had a family or they sacrificed their family in order to get to their dreams.
You see I have a young family, I’m deeply involved in my faith, and I’m not willing to give those things up because that’s what makes life worth living for me. And those gurus couldn’t understand that and, frankly, they hadn’t tried to do what I was trying to do.
What’s more is that I grew up in a big, loving family where my grandpa had worked hard, started a very successful business and taught us that all his success was never about the money, it was about his family and blessing other people.
So I knew it could be done.
I just needed to find the blueprint.
And so Contenders Wanted was born.
Through the podcast I interview super successful people who have navigated having a family and other meaningful obligations while relentlessly pursuing their dreams. Each episode we give you hope through their stories and tease out the specific things that enabled them to be successful, so you can take those tools and use them for your own success.
When I’m not hosting the show, I use the principles I’ve learned on my own journey and learned on the show to help Contenders transform their own lives, find the confidence and skills they need to succeed, and create meaningful legacies for them and their families.
If you resonate with this message then be sure to check out our website at www.contenderswanted.com and sign up for our email list while you’re there so you never miss an episode.
And remember, success leaves clues, and Contenders are always wanted.
